Acknowledgments
And finally, I reach the worst, the hardest and the most underrated and unread part of any book ever: The Acknowledgments. Double hard when the girls at home are already asking what's for dinner.
Sigh.
I guess my first thanks should go to them. To my daughter for not turning me in a mental institution, although she knows she earned a spot right in the next room, which she has no problem admitting.
To my wife for putting up with my insanity on a daily basis, for letting me write (for the most part) instead of pushing me to get a "real job", and leaving me the hell alone when I throw my tantrums. Also, for believing in my stories even though she can't read a word in English.
To my Grandma too because without her; I wouldn't be writing in English at all. (Hint: this is where the blame should be directed. Just saying.)
Also to my dad. Even though he has no idea how this writing business goes, he's been pushing me forward, trusting I could put up a book that someone might enjoy, even when I didn't trust myself.
There's a lot of people outside my own family I should be thanking.
But I just won't.
Nah, just kidding. This is going to be a problem, because I am forced to write your names in a certain order even when I know you have all been equally important in this endeavor. So, in no particular order, I'll name three people: Latoshia Jessup, Rabecka Brown, and Leha Divakar.
All of them provided eyes, encouragement, opinions, advice, and all the love a writer could possibly need. The three of them were there in my lowest, in my highest, in my planning and plotting, in my daily life, when I was writing, and when I wasn't. All three of you know I'd have given up on this a long time ago without your support.
To my Aunt Patricia: you're my harshest critic ever, and I admire and respect that honesty, maybe to a fault. I hope I didn't let you down with this book. It is thanks to you that I turned into a reader; and because of it, I also started writing in English. So to be fair, this book is also your fault. Love you, Auntie.
I won't forget you, Pratikshya Mishra! You're doing an awesome job with your blog and that's reflected in every post. Also, let me tell you this: you're the first to agree to write a review of this book for your own blog. That's how awesome you are.
Also, to Diane Marie Chattaway, your help with my blurb was invaluable.
Paulina González Miranda. There's a place only you can occupy. Even though we haven't been as close as we used to, you're always there when I need a sensitive person to rant and just be myself.
Belen Delgado, you're nuts and out of your tree. I wish we weren't so busy so we could spend more time chatting like we used to. Going out will never be the same without your bathroom urges. Oh, and you have lice.
I want to also thank the Romance Writers Critique Group on Facebook and all the great people who gather there. Even though this book isn't a romance one by a long shot, they were all nice and helpful when I couldn't decide on this book's cover.
Also to the hundreds of thousands of people who share their knowledge online so clueless people like me can take advantage of their insight and experience.
On that note, thank you to all the awesome writers all around the world who wrote books that inspired me to try my best to match their uncanny talent.
I want to say thank you to all the people who agreed to beta read, and those who read my raw posts in my ultra awesome blog (RIP), my even more brutally incredible Wattpad, and my lackluster Facebook page (also RIP).
Okay. If I forgot someone, they'll let me know one day in an angry text. To you, and before you throw a fit, I didn't forget on purpose.
I should really write a list for my next book.
And a big thanks to you. Yes, you, who are reading this book right nowto the last bit. And if you know of someone who started reading this book andfor whatever reason put it down at some point, let them know I also thank themdearly.
