-Thanks.
This chapter takes part two weeks after Dick and his siblings left Bruce and the manor.
Kids ages:
Dick: 17 1/2
Jason: 15
Tim: 7
Cassandra: 5
Damian: 2 1/2
It had been two weeks since Dick and his siblings left the manor and Bruce.
To say that is wasn't going easy was an understatement. Everything seemed to change the moment that they all walked out the front doors of the Wayne manor.
Dick quickly found them a small apartment but he was having to save up for a bigger place for them all to fit in. Currently they were staying in a two bedroom apartment, wasn't exactly roomy like the manor was, especially not with 5 people living there.
Dick and Jason, with Damian shared a room while Tim and Cass had the other room. But most of the time Dick slept on the small couch he found at a thrift store.
Dick was trying his hardest to keep everything regular for his younger siblings.
Dick put up a front, a mask showing them that everything was fine and working out when it couldn't be farther from the truth.
Dick was struggling a lot. He had picked up a job and was about to get another one soon to help pay the bills. While they were with Bruce, Dick didn't have to worry about money at all, now that was one of the only things he could think about besides the most important thing on his mind, that was always on his mind: his siblings well being.
So instead of going to school, Dick went to work at a small diner. He worked until he had to pick his siblings up, plus all his school work.
Once back at their new home, Dick would help them all with their homework, make dinner, clean up around the place, give the little ones baths and then tuck them into their beds before trying to start his school work and do some of the bills.
Dick sighed and laid his head in his hands. He closed his eyes and allowed the walls he built up, the ones he hid behind fall down a bit when he thought he was alone, where none of his siblings could see how overwhelmed he truly was.
But Jason knew, he could noticed that Dick was struggling right away and tried to help, but Dick promised him that he had it. Dick just didn't want to weigh down Jason and mess up his childhood even more than it had been.
Jason stood in the hallway and peeked in on Dick. He was sitting at the small kitchen table that seated four, with his head in his hands.
Jason was worried about his big brother. And as much as he hated Bruce, he wished they could be back at the manor, so a little bit of the world was off his big bro's shoulders.
He closed his eyes and sighed, he knew Dick wouldn't let him help him, so he turned and went back into their room.
When he entered his bedroom that he shared with Dick and Damian. Jason walked over to check up on Damian, who for once was actually sleeping quite well, too bad Dick wasn't getting any shut eye at the moment.
He sat down on the bed and in his mind went over Dick's routine.
5 A.M.- wake up and begin the day
7 A.M.- have everyone up and ready
7:30-done with breakfast and cleaning up afterwards
8 A.M.-drop off at school, then to work
8:10 A.M.-3:15 P.M.-- At work
3:40-4:25 P.M.-homework with kids
5 P.M.- Cass, Damian and Tim's bath times.
5:35 P.M.- begin dinner
6:20 P.M.- dinner time and dishes
7 P.M.- bedtime for Cass, Tim and Damian.
7:40 P.M.- clean up around the apartment, a do laundry
Then the rest of the night was up in the air after he sent Jason to his room for bed. Dick would begin his homework, work on bills and almost always be up with Damian or one of the others before finally going to be at like three in the morning just to start all over again.
---------------------------
After a terribly long day at the diner, Dick was so ready for bed but he had to study and get off work early to take a test. He was also going to pick up the night shift there, which started at 8:30.
Dick walked to the schools to pick his siblings up. First he picked up Tim and Cass and listened to them go on and on about their day. Then he made his way to Damian's preschool, that was attached to Tim's and Cass' elementary/primary school. Next off towards the highschool to find Jason sitting on the steps waiting for them.
After gathering them all up they all set out towards their apartment slowly.
------------------------------
Jason's POV:
I sat at the bottom of the school steps waiting for Dick and them to hurry up, the cool breeze of the wind was sending chills down my spine.
As soon as I see them I stand up and walk over towards them but almost stop. The sight of Dick is worrisome. He looks extremely pale and small dark circles are under his eyes. His eyes looked glazed over slightly and appears to be forcing himself awake. Jason's eyes scan over Dick, he looks off balanced and like if just shoved a bit he would fall over easily, not to mention that he looks hella thin right now. More thin than Jason has ever saw him.
They walk to their apartment, Jason keeping a close eye on his big brother, afraid that Dick once again has pushed himself too far.
The last time this happened, he ended up in the hospital for exhaustion.
Jason sigh, "oh this is not good" he thought.
Jason sat at the table doing his homework while helping out Timmy's with his.
Dick was on the couch with Damian who was crying. He was checking Damian's temperature, in fear that he had a fever and was possibility sick.
Jason watched as Dick glanced at the clock then back at his little brother in his lap. He ran his hand through Damian's hair and shushed him, trying to smoothed him. Jason looked up from his homework when he heard Dick sigh. He set Damian down who then screamed loudly from no longer being on Dick. Dick stood up and wobbled for a moment, he reached up to his forehead and closed his eyes.
Jason really thought Dick was going to faint but Dick shook his head and went to find Damian some medicine.
Damian had a fever of: 102.4°
After Dick gave him some medicine, he rocked the small child to sleep them walked him to their room to lay him down.
Dick then quickly prepared dinner for them, while still double checking their homework and going over Tim's spelling words with him.
To Jason, Dick even looked more pale than he did before but knew full well that if he asked Dick, that Dick would undoubtedly lie to him, saying that he was fine or feeling the aster
Dinner went on and Damian woke up and just a little bit before Dick set out to give him a bath then put him back to bed.
As soon as dinner was over and Dick reluctantly let Jason help with the dishes, it hit him. He quickly glanced over at the couch where Dick sat with Damian in his lap and Tim and Cass on either side of him while he read them a book before putting them to bed.
It quickly hit him, Dick didn't eat anything. Hell, Jason didn't know when the last time Dick did eat something.
"That stupid bastard." Thought Jason as he finished up the dishes. "He doesn't make that much money, just enough to get them all by but, he is so worried about them and their well being that he is putting himself at risk. He isn't eating cause he wants to be sure we all have enough to eat. Dickie you are so dumb" he thought and rolled his eyes.
When Dick finally put the others down, after having to give Cass some medicine too cause she started to run a fever. Dick walked into the living room and grabbed his work uniform off the pile of clean clothes.
"Hey Dickie" said Jason, causing Dick to jump. He hadn't realized Jason was still there.
"Hey Jay" Dick said and looked up and shot him a smile before turning to leave and get dressed but Jason got up quickly and rushed over to Dick.
He placed a hand on Dick's thin shoulder and turned him around to face him.
Dick was now looking at Jason, and he could truly see how gosh darn tried Dick really was. He then pushed him over to the couch.
"We need to talk" said Jason and stood in front of Dick with his arms crossed over his chest. Giving Dick a small batglare to show his big brother how serious he was about this.
Dick simply nodded his head.
"Dick, I'm worried about you. And before you say your fine just stop and listen. I know your not, okay? Your under a lot of pressure and I get it but you got to take better care of yourself. For us and...yourself man. Your too damn important to lose. And...I-I can't lose you too. I can't" said Jason, his eyes a bit watery. He looked down at Dick and could tell that Dick heard him.
"Thank god" though Jason who walked over and sat beside Dick.
"Okay jaybird" Dick whispered and laid his head on Jason's shoulder. Within minutes, Dick's whole body relaxed and he fell asleep against Jason.
Jason smiled and looked down at his big brother and shook his head.
"How could everything change so quickly? One minute Bruce is there and is an okay father, to the next minute M.I.A. and Dick stepping up more and more, almost killing himself to take care of everyone else.
Oh Dickie, why does it always have to be you, huh?" Thought Jason, who leaned back with Dick and drifted off to sleep on the couch.
Everyone slept peaceful that night and in the morning Jason called everyone off. They all had a day off and relaxed, Dick slept half the day away.
No matter what, Jason was always going to worry about Dick. He loved his big brother so much and was going to have his back and help him anyway he could, no matter what cause that is what family is for.
