Bad Reddit experience: part 1
This was the exact title of the post on r/unpopularopinion
"Doctors do not get enough hate for arriving at a misdiagnosis"
And guess what, that post had 1K upvotes and 3K comments in support of it at the moment.
Friends, this is what we get after working so hard for hours and hours. This is what we get for sacrificing our sleep, social life and enjoyment. FYI some doctors even had to walk out of the funerals of their loved ones to serve patients. This is what we get for working in Covid PPE in the sweltering heat for 18 hours out of 24 in a day. This is what we get for not being able to eat or sleep. This is what we get in return.
To this OP and all the people who upvoted and supported, I would like to ask you all, if doctors or any other healthcare workers worked only a office job timed 8-hour shift and left, then whom would your ass come running to when you have trouble breathing because of Covid, or when someone in the family has a heart attack or when one of your friends had several pints too much to drink? You can't ask for help and bite the hand that provides it to you.
Acknowledge the fact that doctors are humans too. There are thousands of conditions with similar presentations and we have to learn all of them. Also, us misdiagnosing something is very rare and unintended. We do not intend to hurt you. I'm sorry for your bad medical experiences but you trying to form a hate club against doctors doesn't make you correct. In fact, when a loved one of yours suffers from illness, you will come running to us and begging us to help them. Then we could push that post in your face, deny our services and tell you to buzz off. But we won't do that, because that's how we have been conditioned. That's what our oath tells us. After seeing this post though I must say the oath needs a few changes, I'm not gonna lie.
Sometimes I feel like giving up too. I'm a medical student, doctor in the making. But I'm not accepting defeat because I like helping people. I feel like that is how I will find my purpose in life, so please don't give me and other students like me a reason to give up. It's your loss in the end.
