Chapter 3-The Counter... Really!?!?
Ava was sleeping (probably with a weapon) in her bed, Johnny somehow got in the box for the blankets, Pierce was sleeping while sitting in a chair, Leif looked like he was meditating, Noi slept on the floor (and also talked in his sleep, my god what even-How do you suck someone's organs out of them!?), and Asch. HE TOOK MY COUCH! HE MADE ME SLEEP ON THE COUNTER! I had been restless the whole night, and even fell off once, the only person who came to check on me was Rhys. Out of all of them, he and Noi seem to be the nicest. So far.
"Are you okay human?" He asked in a low whisper as I sat up and rubbed my head.
"Yeah," I answered back softly, "I just fell." I stand up and jump back onto the counter. "I can't believe Asch stole my bed."
"Y-You, used his name?" Rhys asked a bit shocked. I ignored him and laid back down on the counter. Rhys was starting to walk away before, I said something I didn't mean to.
"Is Damos dark, with a million stars in the sky?" I asked while staring at the ceiling.
"Pardon?" He stopped and turned towards me.
"S-Sorry, just, thinking out loud," I told him. He gave me a questioning look as the embarrassment flushed onto my face. "S-Sorry... I just... I remember, being told stories about Damos, a long time ago. They were like Demons, but, no tails, normal skin, and could speak better than any other Demon known. In those stories, it always made me curious about how dark it was. I've always wondered what Damos sky and wildlife look like in pitch black. It's about a foreign a sight to me as humans and Earth are to you guys. Ya know?" I cast Rhys one glance, and saw the faintest smile cross his lips. I smiled back softly and turned on my side, shaking a bit from the cold. With the couch, Asch also stole my blanket.
"I know exactly what you mean Sorcerer Trick-Tristian," He said and I felt his steps fade off behind me, "Please, I'll apologize for Asch's behavior, but try to get some rest. You and Avan seemed more tired than anyone else today." At his words, I closed my eyes, and for the first time in this forever lasting night, I felt myself be able to sleep. Then, I felt warm.
I got up and sat on the counter, looking at each of the Damos boys, seeing what I could figure out. Pierce caught me by surprise, for someone who seems so calm and composed, he kept his weapon out, and his body was tense, even though he was asleep. "I wonder, what happened to him..." I have no room to judge anyone, as I'm like that constantly, but even then, I haven't slept with a weapon by my side since I was 10. Whatever happened to him, was really bad. As I'm scanning over everyone, I see Asch sit up with an annoyed look on his face, carefully he walked over to the window, giving me one glance, then paying me no mind. He scoffed at the busy city streets and sidewalks outside the window, then turned and headed over to Noi, taking one of his daggers off him.
"I wouldn't go in there," I told him as he walked over to Ava's room, "She was serious last night."
"I don't care, Human," He said to me. I jumped down and ran over, blocking the door. "Move."
"Kill me, not Ava!" I shouted in a slight whisper and shut my eyes tight.
"W-What?" He stepped back and looked at me as if I were insane, "You're going to, protect her?"
"Yes," I said calmly, keeping my stance in front of her door, "I care about Ava more than anyone else in my life. I can't lose her. I can't lose anyone else without losing everyone. So, if you're going to kill anyone. Kill me. Not her."
"I-Humans are weak," He scoffs.
"Don't you think it's strange how humans are so protective of the people around them?" Leif asked.
"Yes," Pierce responded.
"I'm protective, for different reasons," I told them.
"Yeah, but still, even then-we've all been acting docile since we arrived here," Leif pointed out as I moved out of the doorway. Asch walked right in, and my face went grim. "Especially, Asch."
"Something has changed," Pierce commented, "It's not our place to ask."
"Your unquestioning loyalty is disgusting," Leif argued.
"I wouldn't expect a former assassin to understand loyalty," Pierce said deeply.
"Wait? Loyalty? Assassin?" I asked and they both looked up at me as I sat on the back of the couch, "I'm intrigued." The two looked at me like I was crazy. "Oh don't play dumb, I'm smart enough to see all the gold on Asch and to know he's from some Royal Family. You guys are his guards or something, right?"
"Yes," Pierce said.
"So, can you tell me more?" I asked, "Like, about yourselves?"
"No," Pierce said and the two pretended to sleep again. I looked over to Rhys, Asch was in Ava's room, and he seemed to listen to Rhys. So, I poked him, repeatedly.
"I think Asch is gonna kill Ava," I whispered and he shot up running.
"Your Majesty put down the knife," Rhys said.
"Why should I?" I heard Asch. I wanted to kill him now.
"Knives kill humans."
"And?" Noi and Pierce walked beside me as Noi tiredly asked about his daggers. I pointed towards Asch but Pierce put his hand on my shoulder. Quickly I brushed it off and looked the other way. For, reasons... I don't like being touched.
"Quiet Noi or you'll wake her," Rhys said loudly, and a small noise from Ava-made them all gasps. Even Asch took a step back.
"Good job Rhys," Noi said, "She's going to kill us."
"Everyone out, I've got this," I said and pushed them out of the door-Pierce, decided to run behind me and then did that dog pet thing. Strange to me, but it worked! "Get out, now." No one hesitated.
"Sorcerer Tristian, I'd like to formally apologize for their behavior," Rhys said as we stepped outside and I shut the door.
"It's fine," I told him, "I honestly just don't think you guys can handle Ava when she's mad."
"We haven't seen her mad yet?" Noi asked. I shook my head.
"Not, even, close," I said.
"We grow tired of this," Asch said, Noi and Leif agreeing with him. I shook my head.
"I have to agree. We keep dancing around here," Noi said, "We know humans have powerful weapons, but we've had a lot of chances to overpower them."
"Prince Asch-" Rhys began.
"Knew it," Pierce and Leif looked at me.
"This mission means everything to you, does it not?" Rhys asked. Asch stood and nodded. They all looked at me like I was just getting in the way of their conversation. Good. I know they're lying about why they're really here. So I'm not leaving.
"Look Asch is just doing things as we would on Damons," Leif pointed out, "You can't shame him for that."
"I can shame him for that," Rhys said.
"But you can't shame me," Leif said.
"No, you do that enough for yourself," Rhys countered back and I couldn't help but snicker a bit.
"Point is, we don't do things anyway, we'll try it the human way for now," Leif said. Then, all eyes were on me, and I was already hiding behind the counter.
"Leif, go wake the other prisoner up," Asch said.
"Bad idea," I said from behind the counter, "She will stabby stab."
"Then you teach us!" Asch yelled. I stood up and jumped back on the counter, sitting right across from all of them. Scanning each of them, then my watch went off-and I had never been so thankful that it was time for my Morning 10 Miles.
"Can't! I'll be back! AVA GOING ON MY M10M!" I shouted and ran into the bathroom with my bag. Quickly I changed into my camo sports bra and my black leggings, tying up my hair and throwing my bag by the door before I ran out of it. I don't think any of them saw me.
~*~*~TIME SKIP~*~*~
I came back through the door with my music blaring in my ears. I love when my music is so loud I can't hear anything around me. Jake and Mrs. Oats were outside working on the flowers as I ran by and the two waved. Politely I waved back, despite not wanting to, but, I was raised kindly.
"I'm back!" I yelled as I came through the door.
"Ah, Sorcerer Tristian, you're back," Rhys said as I pulled out my headphones, "How was your... uhh-M10M?"
"Oh it was great, and just so you know M10M means Morning 10 Miles," I said as I set my phone and headphones down on the counter. "Where did everyone else go?"
"Pierce, Asch, Noi, and Sorcerer Ava went to go and get clothing for all of us," Rhys answered.
"What?" I asked bluntly.
"So we can fit in better with humans," Leif put in.
"No, like what?! I make clothes for a living! And she didn't ask me?! Like actually! I made everything I'm wearing right now!"
"Really, let me see-Uh-O-Oh my," Rhys said as he turned the corner into the kitchen. At this point, I was more than aware that he had seen my camo sports bra and black leggings, along with my curly auburn hair tied up in a high ponytail, and my muscle showing. 4 pack. Yeah. I've worked for this body, I can enjoy it.
"What's so-WHOA!" Leif said joining Rhys around in the kitchen, "Those look so cool!"
"Oh, thanks, it's just my work out gear though," I told them as I dug into the fridge, "I've made better stuff than this. I have a dress I'm working on with cherry forest print and golden willow flowers. It's to die for," I said and Leif's eyes lit up, "Not literally Leif."
"Aww," He said. I laughed and closed the fridge, leaning against the doors and staring at them.
"So, what made you two stay back?" I asked.
"Prince Asch wanted us to set up living accommodations that would suit us better," Leif said.
"Yes," Rhys agreed, "Which means you may get your couch back." I chuckled and stood from the door.
"Alright, let's see these 'accommodations', I'm curious," I said and walked in front of them.
"Those markings," Rhys said as Leif poked my back, "LEIF! Leave her alone!"
"What? You know we've only seen these once!" Leif said.
"Hmmm? Oh, you mean guys mean my tattoo," I said and bent my arm back, brushing a hand along the wings. "I've had it for years. I can't explain how or why, it's just... I've always had it."
"I see, so there is no meaning behind it?" Rhys asked as he closely looked at it, I jumped and took a step back, turning so they couldn't see it anymore.
"T-There is... I just..." I let out a breath, "Show me your accommodations."
"Of course, right this way," Rhys said, and then, they walked through the wall.
"What the heck?!" I said and followed them.
~*~*~TIME SKIP~*~*~
"Tris!" Ava shouted as she walked through the wall and stared at me. I was blasting my music over my speakers with Leif and Rhys actually enjoying it. "What are you doing?!"
"I'm showing them music!" I shouted, "THEY ACTUALLY LIKE IT!" I guess she found out about the wall.
"End this horrid sound at once!" Asch screamed.
"NEVER!" I shouted and laughed bright, "AVA C'MON! This is our favorite song!" You're The One. The greatest song ever.
"No, I'm going to bed!" She shouted and left the room.
"Ava," I said and my smile faded. I turned off the music, leaving Leif and Rhys in a small whine as I took my stuff and head towards the wall. "Sorry you two, but Ava comes first in my life. I have to make sure she's okay. She's never refused our song before."
"Never?" Noi asked.
"No," I replied, "She's always willing to dance and sing with me to our song, no matter how bad of a day she's been having. She comes first, so I'll see you guys later. Goodnight guys!"
When I came back out, I was a lot less worried than I should've been. Ava was feeding Johnny and staring at the box of Munchie Scrunchies that Pierce stole. I watched her sit down and pour herself a bowl.
"Heh," She smiled. I smiled back. I'm glad she's getting used to them, maybe someday soon I can tell her about my parents and what happened. Since... it happened because of... them.
