24: A Little Help
“We’ll eat well!” Everyone singsonged before ravaging the feast on the table. Every dish looked unbelievably delicious, and everyone was having fun eating, except for one person, of course. Myungsoo still looked flabbergasted, most probably because of the things I said earlier. Unlike the others, I ate my food rather calmly. Howon softly nudged my side.
“You don’t look fine.”
“I am. I just don’t feel like raping the food.”
“What an odd verb,” he snickered, making me chuckle as well. I unconsciously glanced at Myungsoo and unfortunately, our eyes met. I froze, but he seemed unsurprised and kept looking at me coldly. It lasted for a few seconds before I decided to break contact and focused on my food again. Quite disturbing.
“May I grab your attentions, please?” Sunggyu clapped. He was too serious, causing it to look a little funny. “As the precious one-week vacation of Infinite comes to an end, let us refresh our memories with compassion and happiness so that we may continue working hard with clear minds.”
“You don’t have to be so formal, hyung.” Dongwoo mindlessly said, earning a glare from the leader. He giggled, thinking that it was funny, but then immediately shut up.
“As I was saying before I was interrupted,” he made sure to glare at Dongwoo again, “Let us continue working hard to give better performances to our fans. Infinite, fighting!” he raised his soda can.
“Fighting!” the boys repeated. Howon froze, halfway lifting his own can.
“Wait, don’t forget our Inspirits over here!”
“Ah, yes, yes. Inspirits, fighting!” Sunggyu said cheerily, causing Emmi and I to laugh. “And I can’t forget my number one fan.” He wiggled his eyebrows at Emmi, causing her to blush madly. We bumped our cans rather harshly, causing some droplets of soda splatter here and there. After someone complained, somehow, a few seconds later, the peaceful scenario turned into a food fight. Emmi and I slowly escaped and let the boys have their own version of bonding.
“Those boys could be crazy sometimes.” Emmi chuckled. “Wait here, I’ll go wash my face. I feel sticky.” I nodded and watched her disappear to the restrooms. A soft breeze caressed my face, making me a little sleepy. It was so relaxing. I closed my eyes for a while, but then felt something odd and snapped them open. A flash of white passed between the trees not so far away. I tried to restrain myself, but my curiosity was so strong that I ended up running after it. It wasn’t that far anyway, and if it was actually a rapist or something dangerous, at least the boys will hear my scream.
I looked around for a while, but saw nothing. It must have been my imagination. I jumped in shock when a hand landed on my left shoulder.
“It’s been a while.” A very familiar boy smiled. I raked my mind as to where I have seen him before, and remembered the 7/11 store where Myungsoo almost caused a scene.
“You! Um… Jong… Jonghae…?”
“Choi Jonghun.” He smiled once again. “I remember you as Han Yuan.”
He put his hand forward, but I just stared at it. “Uh, if you’re going to kiss my hand again, I won’t take that hand.”
“Okay then, never mind.” He dropped his hand.
“What are you doing here? Are you following us? You’re a stalker, aren’t you?”
“I’m not exactly a stalker, but you can say that I’m following you, for a different purpose.” I narrowed my eyes. He might be dressed like a gentleman, with light brown jeans and a white button up shirt, but who knows? You can’t classify a person these days just by the way they dress.
“Anyway, I decided to show up since I wanted to tell you something. Everything around you is fine now, correct? And only one thing remains unsolved.”
“What do you mean?” Why did he speak like he knew many things about me?
“Well, you’re in good terms again with your childhood friend, and you have helped you best friend decide about her confession.”
“How do you know about all that? That’s it, you really are a stalker!”
He just softly smiled despite of my harsh accusation. “The only thing that remains is your relationship with Myungsoo.”
How did he…
“You seem to not know how to clear your misunderstandings, so I wanted to help. Please ignore the fact that I might be a stalker and just assume that I am speaking of the truth.”
I hesitantly nodded.
“Ask me anything you want. I can assure you that I don’t spread gossip.” He smiled again.
“You can answer any question? How?”
“Any question regarding you and Myungsoo. How I do that can be explained later on.”
I sighed. “Well then. Why do we have misunderstandings?”
“Firstly, his perception on your relationship with Hoya is wrong, causing him to speak wrongly. Secondly, his way of showing affection is quite different from what we normally expect.”
“Ah, so he really still thinks that Hoya is fooling me.”
“That’s not right. He’s thinking about something else.” My brows furrowed. Why does this man have to speak indirect to the point? It’s downright confusing.
“What ‘something else’?”
“You can figure it out. Some things have their right time to be known. You have realized that you like him, correct?”
“Yes,” I answered slowly, still not sure how he knew all this.
“Do you wish for him to have the same feeling towards you?” that caught me off-guard. He seemed to notice and chuckled. I tried to defend myself.
”How can you expect me to answer such a bold question?!”
“I’m sorry, I wasn’t thinking right. Of course, all people want their loved ones to love them back.” That made me blush. It was too embarrassing. But honestly, a part of my brain wonders how.
“All you need to do is clear out all misunderstandings. Eventually, everything will fit back into place and all will be well. Did I answer the question in your mind?”
I nodded, though still blushing. He chuckled and tapped my head. Somehow, it made me feel like he could be trusted, and my thoughts of him being a stalker was momentarily washed away.
“Well, before it could be forgotten,” I mocked his poetic way of speaking. “Could you explain to me now how you knew all those things?”
“YUAN?!!” Emmi’s shrill voice erupted from somewhere. She seemed like she was in panic. My nerves shook. It looked like Emmi needed me desperately, but at the same time, I was dead curious about this Jonghun.
He smiled and motioned towards the camp. “Go ahead.”
“Ah, darn. Don’t move an inch, okay? I’ll come back for you!” I ran off. I saw Emmi at the same spot we were hiding earlier. I could see the boys all over the place, all wearing the same worried expression. Emmi hugged me tightly.
“Gosh, we were searching for you everywhere!” I thought you were kidnapped or fell from a cliff or something! Where were you anyway?”
“In the trees…” she looked confused.
“Trees? What were you doing there?”
“I…,” something was telling me that I shouldn’t inform her about Jonghun. “I just saw a white rabbit and chased after it."
Emmi laughed, “Oh I see! You didn’t fall into a rabbit hole as well, right?” she wrapped an arm around me and pulled me away from the trees I was in. “Come on, we have to re-check our things and make sure that we didn’t forget anything!”
I timidly nodded and glanced back at the trees. I saw the flash of white again, but when I looked more closely, I realized that it was some sort of wing… like angel wings.
I chuckled. So that’s how he knew everything.
