17: A Revelation
“No. No no no no,” Howon shook his head. “I respect Yuan so much that I can’t force her to play that if she doesn’t want it.”
I almost “awww”-ed at that.
“I… I don’t want it.” Howon smiled at me kindly, and Dongwoo nodded.
“Okay then, I guess MyungYeol and WooJong are the only ones that would compete. Are you sure you don’t want to try for the barbeques?”
“No, it’s okay.” I said in quite a rush, making him chuckle. Soon enough, the little competition started, and I just made myself comfortable in watching them. I even remember one time where the card fell and Sungjong and Woohyun almost kissed. I shivered as I tried to imagine if that happened to me. Good thing Howon was such a gentleman.
At the end, Myungsoo and Sungyeol won. They got six pieces of barbeque, and the rest of the couples just got 2. And that obviously wasn’t enough to fill my stomach. After I ate my own piece (and half of Howon’s which he gladly offered me), I still wasn’t full. So I just continued gnawing on the marshmallows, as sad as it may sound.
“Here,” someone mumbled in front of me. I looked up to see Myungsoo, who was reaching out a piece of barbeque to me.
“Oh, it’s okay. You have the right to keep it since you earned it.” I was still startled by his sudden kindness, but I managed to show a smile.
“Aish just take it! I’m not into barbeques that much.” One of my eyebrows rose. I didn’t understand how he could be rude and nice at the same time.
“Um, thanks… I guess?” I slowly said while taking the stick from him. He just nodded, eyes trying to avoid me, and went back to his place next to Sungyeol. Was he… shy?
I just shrugged and bit into the meaty goodness.

[Myungsoo’s P.O.V] :D
I let out another groan. It was probably the 10th time that night. Why can’t I sleep? Why couldn’t I sleep? I wasn’t thinking about anything. Normally, once I lay down in bed, I quickly drift off to sleep, but now, why can’t I freaking sleep?? This was starting to feel annoying. I glanced at my glow in the dark watch: 12:55 a.m. I rolled my eyes. There would be no point in trying. Might as well take a little walk around the place.
I swiftly grabbed my black hoodie folded beside my bed, and tiptoed around Dongwoo and Sunggyu. I didn’t want to disturb their peaceful sleeps, being the nice visual I am *insert eye roll*. The cool wind greeted me first thing and I rubbed my arms for warmth. It was so silent; just the way I like it. I saw the burnt pile of woods on the center of the place where we held the bonfire hours ago.
Oh yes, that bonfire. And Dongwoo’s silly games just for a few pieces of barbeque. Honestly, I was quite annoyed at Hoya. How could he let Yuan play the peppero game? She was too innocent for that. Heck, he even almost kissed her! Oh, not almost. He really did kiss her. I saw how his lip brushed against hers.
I let out a scoff. What kind of man steals a kiss from a girl? He must be a perverted opportunist. Good thing Hoya refused the card kissing game or else, I would have pulled Yuan away from him.
Wait.
Why did I even think of that? What is it to me if they kissed, even if it was on accident? Why would I even bother? But… It’s annoying. It’s really annoying that Hoya acts all cute and sweet around her. He’s not really like that. He used to be the mysterious man that doesn’t immediately warm up to strangers. He can’t be around Yuan. It sounds scary that he acts differently around her, and it makes it look like he’s fooling her. He can’t toy with her feelings like she’s just an animal, or a doll, or something. Whatever.
“Out in the dark, I see.” A familiar voice chuckled. Hoya. I rolled my eyes.
“What are you doing here,” I said in monotone. I didn’t understand why, but his mere presence irritated me.
“Just like you, walking. Feeling the wind.” I rolled my eyes again and just continued walking, trying to ignore his presence. He followed me anyway, which was annoying as hell.
“I want to talk to you about Yuan.” I stopped walking for a second. About Yuan? What is he up to? I regained my composure and continued walking slowly.
“What about her?”
“You started acting differently since we met her.”
“So? She’s an annoying creature.”
“She’s an adorable girl.” He sounded like he was smiling, and I felt a nerve twitch on my forehead. “Tell me the truth, Myung.”
I turned around to glare at him. How dare he call me that name when he’s annoying me.
“You like Yuan, don’t you?”
My breath hitched up on my throat. I haven’t really… thought about that. I don’t like her… right? She’s annoying, loud-mouthed, and too confident. She thinks she could do things all by herself, but she can’t. It’s impossible to like her.
“It’s so obvious, Myungsoo. You’re impulsive around her. You quickly lose your cool, you act rude towards her, but then you sneak glances later. I’m not oblivious of that, Myung.”
I swear if he uses that nickname one more time, I’ll burn his purple stuffed toy and bury it in cow poop.
“And I saw how you glared when I kissed her.” He waited for my reaction with amused eyes, but I maintained a straight face. That moment, I wanted so badly to punch him. He chuckled when he saw my clenched fists. “Admit it. You’re jealous.”
Am I jealous? Is that why I was annoyed at Hoya? Is that why I feel like pulling Yuan away when he’s around? No no no no no… Can’t be. Impossible. Can’t be.
“I’m not,” I hissed. He chuckled again.
“Whatever you say. I just want you to know that I wouldn’t stop being with her even if you’ll go around trying to keep her away.”
“I won’t.” I growled. He just laughed and brushed the matter away with his hand.
“Goodnight, L.” he turned on his heels and went back to their small cottage. I unclenched my fists and let out a gush of breath. I looked down on the sand.
I’m confused.
