12: Unaccepted Apology

The doorbell rang while I was in the kitchen, cooking ramen. I opened the door and was surprised to see Sunggyu and the rest if the boys’ faces. It was Wednesday, a few days after I last saw them at the Yeolyun Theater. I didn’t see them for days because they were busy, of course, being the famous celebrities they were.

“Long time no see,” Woohyun made his way from behind the others and shook my hand with a cheeky smile.

“Aigoo~ I’m tired!” Sungjong whined and barged into the house to lie down. He didn’t even reach the sofa and fell on the carpet face-first.

“Tired?” My eyebrow rose. “Wait, did you just come from a schedule and went here straight?” Sunggyu smiled guiltily and came into the house just like Sungjong. Soon, the living room was filled with six drowsy boys.

Wait… Six?

“Where’s Myungsoo?”

“He didn’t want to come here and went to the dorm. Said he was too tired…” Sunggyu mumbled.

“Oh.” My head dropped to hide my frown. I still felt guilty because of that day, and I couldn’t find the right time to apologize because 1) I rarely see them and 2) he seems to be avoiding me. I went back to the kitchen to cook 5 more packs of ramen while they relaxed themselves all over the carpet.

“Wake up boys, food’s here.” I tapped each of their shoulders and then they groggily went to the dining table.

“We’ll eat well,” they yawned and started wolfing down the noodles. I just watched them with a smile, not wanting to ruin their small heaven. Sungyeol noticed me and spoke with his mouth half full.

“Yuan, why aren’t you eating?”

“I only had six packs of ramen, and I think it was meant for you guys. You look like hungry beasts.” They paused from eating for a second, and then started pushing their bowls to me. I chuckled and refused their offers. Someone from beside me suddenly grabbed my cheek and shoved a mouthful of noodles into my mouth. I stared at Howon in shock.

“Your cooking tastes delicious.” He beamed. I rolled my eyes.

“It’s instant ramen.”

“I’m still hungry! Mooooore!” Sungjong whined. I chuckled when Dongwoo bopped his head.

“You could have some of the yoghurt in the fridge.” The childish man grinned, stuck his tongue out at Dongwoo, and then ran to the kitchen.

“Did you watch our performance at Mnet last Sunday?” Dongwoo asked me.

“I don’t have a cable,” I frowned.

“You don’t?” Sunggyu asked. He rubbed his chin while glancing at my unused TV. “We have an extra cable at the dorm, actually a reserve just in case Manager-hyung takes away ours. We could just lend it to you.” He winked.

“What? No! I can’t accept that. That’s your property.” He rolled his small eyes and organized the dirty plates and chopsticks to bring them to the sink.

“I can live without a cable. I could just watch your performances on the internet.” I continued protesting but Sunggyu hummed loudly to show that he wasn’t listening. I really couldn’t do anything to stop his unnecessary kindness.

“Hyung, I think there would be a replay this afternoon.” Sungjong spoke with a spoon still in his mouth. He looked at his watch. “Around 5 or 5:30, I dunno.”

“It’s still 4:45, we could watch it in the dorm!” Sungyeol declared and pulled me towards the door.

“Bu the dishes…”

“Forget about that for now, Sungjong will take care of that.”

“BWOH?!! Andwae!” the maknae yelled and his hyungs snickered. The 5 boys dragged me on the way to the dorm in such a hurry that I was only able to carry my phone.

“I can’t wait to see myself on TV again.” Woohyun smirked and switched on their wide TV. We were just on time because the emcees were just introducing the performers and the top candidates. Infinite was one of them.

“Waah my hair looks so messy there!” Dongwoo whined.

“I look hot,” Woohyun grinned, and we rolled our eyes.

“Hush, WG is performing.” Sungyeol said, his eyes not leaving the pretty Wonder Girls. Soon he was dancing to their “Like This.” We just looked at him weirdly until he came back to his senses and behaved again. Actually, I wasn’t very familiar to celebrities because I rarely watch TV or sometimes, not at all. I didn’t even have time to surf the net because I had to find a living to survive after Granna left me alone in this world.

A few more performances later, I grew tired of waiting so I just asked them. “Did you win?”

“Just watch and see.” I sighed at the frustrating answer I got and laid down on the sofa. I shot up when I heard the emcees introduce Infinite.

“Aren’t we cool?” Sungyeol stated proudly. I watched their dance moves in awe, and hoped that I could dance that cool too. After their performance of “The Chaser,” I gave them a standing ovation while clapping like a kid. The boys blabbered on about how they looked like on TV, how their moves should have been like this, how their heir should have been like that, and so on and so forth. I butt into their conversation every now and then, saying that everything was perfect.

When it was time for the announcement of winners, I was literally on the edge of my seat. The boys wouldn’t tell me the result themselves, so I had no choice.

“You performed really well, so there’s no doubt you won.” I stated but much to my surprise, they didn’t. They only reached 2nd place.

“WHAT? This is unacceptable! You’re obviously more awesome than them!” they just laughed at my tantrum and helped me calm down.

“We let them win this time. We already won for 3 consecutive weeks and it’s their comeback after all, so we let them bring home the bacon for now. We’ll snatch it back later.” Sunggyu shrugged. (A/N: I didn’t write who the winners were in purpose to avoid conflicts -__-)

“Aish, why so noisy?” someone groggily said. It was Myungsoo, and it was obvious that we disturbed his sleep. His eyes landed on me and his frown immediately deepened. He stepped back to return to his room without another word. Fortunately, Sunggyu ignored the awkwardness and guided me to the door.

“I think we kept you here for too long…” he mumbled when he saw the dark sky. It was probably past six already.

“I can walk her home.” Howon hopped to us and wrapped an arm around my shoulder. Sunggyu shook his head, making him pout.

“I have a bright idea,” he gave a creepy smile and pushed me back into the dorm and entered into a room. I started to panic when I realized it was the same room Myungsoo went in.

“Let go of me!” a groggy voice said aloud.

“What? You’ll let her go home alone? In the dark?” I heard Sunggyu say teasingly. I was about to run away when Sungjong appeared and grabbed my waist to bring me down on the couch with him.

“Why are your dishes so hard to clean?” by his heaviness, I could tell he was really tired. Sunggyu shoved him off me and helped me stand up. I saw a pissed-looking Myungsoo in his other arm.

“Now now, Yuan, Myungie here would walk you home since the other boys are already tired, and this boy here just had his essential 1-hour long power nap.” He turned to Myungsoo. “And Myungie, you better take care of Yuan, because if she gets hurt on her way home, I’ll burn your piggy-doll, Arasso?”

Based on his widened eyes, I could tell that the piggy-doll was very important to him. Gyu pushed us out the door, and awkwardness began. I just walked ahead of him.

“You could just hide behind your dorm for a few minutes and then come back out to knock at your door, rather than forcing yourself to do this.”

Silence. I sighed. That silence extended throughout the walk, but I was itching to apologize to him, though I didn’t know what his reaction would be. Even so, I still wanted to just get the weight off my shoulder. We were already near my house when I gathered my courage and spoke.

“Yah Kim Myungsoo! About what I said to you last Saturday, I… I’m sorry.”

His right eyebrow rose. “That’s your best way of apologizing?”

“I already said sorry. I did what I had to do, so I have no fault now.” I crossed my arms. He rolled his eyes.

“Do you think an apology like that would do you any good?” he scoffed, and I scoffed back.

“Yah at least I apologized! Why can’t you just accept it?”

“Yah, why are you yelling at me even though this was your fault? You can’t even use the propped tone!” he yelled back.

“Aish!!” I ruffled my hair in frustration.

“Myungsoo-ah,” I said sweetly though my eye was twitching in annoyance. “I’m sorry for what I said last time. Mianhe!”

“Disgusting,” he faked a gag. I glared at him hard. “Do it again properly!”

“Aniya! I won’t let you tell me what to do! Oh I know, I’ll call Sunggyu to tell him you pushed me into a trash bin!” I smirked as I took out my phone, but then he snatched it away from me. He held my head to keep me away from him. I was shorter than him so I had a hard time.

“I’ll get your number. Since you don’t want to apologize properly, I’ll make you do something else.” Then he threw my phone back. I frantically scanned it to see if he did something else.

“YOU DELETED SUNGGYU’S NUMBER?!!!”

“Yep, just to make sure you won’t make up stories to sabotage me.” He turned around to leave. “I’ll pick you up tomorrow at 8 a.m. You better get a day off.”

“Where are you going to take me?”

“You’ll see.” Though I couldn’t see his face, I could still tell he was smirking. I screamed in frustration and slammed the door as I went into the house.

That emo jerk. I hope he trips into a trash bin on the way home.
