For the next few months we spent time working our way back into solid foods so that we could eat normally again. We stayed in a grand hotel close to the Hunter Association so that they could check in on our health and safety. Everyday I wondered when we'd be able to go home, I honestly hated living off of Leorio's meal plan. I missed all of the wonderful foods we had back at home. I thought that once we escaped that place that we could just go back home and live freely. Yes I was greatful for all of the hospitality and the new friendly faces but I missed running by the river and bathing by the waterfall or watching the elders scribble down notes and practice their magic, even though I'd get kicked out oftentimes.

My ears twitched slightly as I heard someone approaching the door, the boys were off doing whatever and my mother was in the kitchen setting the table. Before the knob could even be touched I opened the door to reveal Kurapika, Killua, and Gon. Leorio was lucky this time around for not being here because I had a bone to pick with him about this food. Mother could've easily added some herbs to add flavor but no, it was in her spirit to follow rules so she thought it was disrespectful to tweak it.

Kurapika shoved Killua forward. "Something you wanna say?" Killua adverted his gaze. "I'm sorry for being rude to you.." He said crossing his arms. "I accept." I responded, not exactly knowing what to say. "Good, you've now made amends." Kurapika sighed taking off his coat. I took it for him and hung it in the closet nearby.

"Goodness (y/n) you could've told me we had company!" My mother shouted from the doorway of the kitchen. "My bad?" Kurapika chuckled and placed his hand on the top of my head. "We actually just got here miss, she just greeted us." He said. She smiled and sighed in relief. 'I don't know why but this makes me feel like a child.' We all sat at the table in the kitchen discussing random things while my mother went back to cooking. When she came back Gon opened the discussion. "Miss (l/n) would it be ok if you all came to the Hunter Association to assess you all's abilities?" "Ah, Gon I'm afraid that I don't have much to test but the children are more than able to, I know (y/n)'s gonna need it so I thank you." I cocked an eyebrow at her. I know Gon was asking her to be polite but she didn't give it a second thought before volunteering us. "Your clan seems to have some strong abilities," said Kurapika. "They would do greatly as Hunters." He continued. "Oh! Mother, I was telling Kurapika about our clan and I think we should take him to see them one-" "Yes, they did mention wanting to take what you all call the Hunter's exam, I feel it would be necessary for them to fit in to society a bit more." She completely ignored every word I said. My ears flattened and it was clear that I was upset. "Yes, (y/n) was telling me about your clan and how they operate, I'd like to know more if you don't mind." Kurapika said politely. I swear he had a way of reading me. "I-uh, yes we have 10 elders that are in charge of overseeing the development and protection of the clan. They go by the names of Edyrm, Almer, Roshia, Phraan, Nimue, Yespeiros, Alais, Tanulia, Ratha, and Sannev. Edyrm is the oldest and wisest of them all and he is said to be the closest to the god, that is where his wisdom comes from. He is the Highest ranking among the elders."  "Ranking? Do you all have a hierarchy?" Kurapika questioned. "We do!! Remember I told you of the constellations and symbols, it is said among humans that lions are the kings of the jungle, that saying kind of came from our clan because long ago we had a king and the king was always a of the lions. Edyrm is of the lions, meaning that he would've been a king back then, but lions are also know for their pride and the lion people were a bit selfish and the rest called for reform. This is how the elders were formed. They're sort of like a council and they hold the most power. They use magic and scriptures to communicate with the gods and our ancestors." I know a great deal on the history of our clan, mostly because Edyrm would tell me stories or he'd let me listen in on some of the meetings. To him I was like a cub, he'd sit me in his lap and let me scribble away on some papers while they talked on things like our food, ways of martial arts, teachings, and trade. Sometimes I'd be shooed away by others but other times he argued that I stay right where he put me. "I don't know why you've taken a liking to that thing, it will never truly be a full (l/n)" Sannev would say. "She reminds me of my cub, so curious and kind." He'd say. Sometimes he even allowed me into the library and told me stories of how our clan used to be. I smiled at the gentle memories. My mother gave me a look. Signifying that she would do the explaining. "After the Elders, there are mages, they put all of their focus into their magic. They keep up a barrier over our village so that it goes undiscovered to humans, they're also our form of military. Despite their desire for perfection there are those who aren't born with abilities so they learn martial arts, everyone is required to learn some form for protection but those who really train can work with the mage did approved by the Elders." "That's actually cool!" Gon said. My mother gave a small smile and a nod. "Next are Travelers, they're in charge of going out of the barriers to trade, they have high positions because they have to be very trustworthy to be able to deal with humans, this is so no one can infiltrate the village." "I see, that would make sense. Is it ok if I take notes on this?" Kurapika asked, he seemed genuinely interested in our village. My mother nodded hesitantly. He pulled out some paper and quickly jotted down what he had been told so far, when he was done she continued. "Then there are farmers. There are different kinds as well medicinal, spice farmers, and our standard food. There's another kind, they grow uncommon and odd plants. Some believe it's just for fun but the people that do do tend to be off their rockers. After the farmers there are doctors and last normal civilians. The doctors are below farmers because we value food more, years ago the village had a great famine because most of its riches went toward the higher ups doctors being one of them, it was a bit of a scam being that we heal quickly due to our nature. Anyone can hunt however as we are all of animals." She explained a lot but she didn't go into grave detail. The guys were amazed at her stories but there was far greater things than just those. Killua wasn't saying much that whole time but I could tell that even he was curious.

A timer went off in the kitchen and my mother scurried back over to the stove. "Is that stuff seriously what you guys eat?" I said, genuinely concerned about their tastebuds. "Well yeah, it tastes just fine to me. I've actually had worse." Killua says placing his hands behind his head. "In my village we have all sorts of great foods and flavors, spices you guys have probably never even heard of. My mother kinda sold you all short when she talked about it. I can't say the village has treated her the same way it's treated me." They all nodded understanding what I meant.  She came back shortly with a big pot and sat it in the middle of the table, then she brought bowls from the kitchen. "I made a bit extra for you all, it'd be rude not to serve a guest." She said putting food in each of their bowls.

That's when my brothers popped in. "Oh now you show up when the food is ready." I laughed. We all made room at the table and spent the rest of the evening chattering away about small things.
