Chapter Ten
After hearing (Y/N)'s conversation with Kenny, I couldn't help but feel myself panic a bit. Luckily, Kenny was rather stupid, but if she were to say something to the wrong person, I knew that I would be toast. Almost all of those boys knew that I was the kite, and if word got back to Bebe- worse yet, Stan- I would be toast.
I was anxious about it all day, and that was evident during practice after school. I don't think I had preformed so poorly, nor been yelled at so much, during a practice. I decided that night I would make another appearance.
After practice, I went home to shower quick. I scarfed down the meatloaf my mother made for supper before telling my parents I was going to Stan. I didn't give either of my parents time to protest before I had my book bag, which had my costume in it, and I went out to my car. I drove about a block away from (Y/N)'s when I awkwardly got dressed in my car. Once I had my suit on, I walked down the back ally to spot (Y/N) sitting on her roof outside her bedroom window.
She looked down, shocked to see me. I'd have to admit, I didn't expect to her outside, but it made getting her attention much easier.
"You came back..." she called down with a small smile on her face.
"You're on your roof," I commented, with a grin.
Her smile grew even larger. "You're welcome to join me up here."
I looked to the small picket fence wall which was detailed with vine and lead up to her roof. I was quick to climb up, (Y/N) giving me a hand once I was up there.
"Is that how you come up here too?" I chuckled.
"God no," (Y/N) laughed. "That's way too much work. I just take the screen out and crawl out here when I need to think."
"Think?" I questioned. "What's going on?"
She shrugged a little, letting out a small laugh. "I guess I've just been stuck in my mind."
"About what?" I pressed.
"It's silly," she laughed a bit.
"Okay...but I want to know," I continued.
She sighed a bit, forming a much more serious face. "I guess it's just about you..."
I couldn't help but hold back a large grin. She was really thinking about me. She really did like me.
"What do you mean it's about me?" I playfully respond, keeping on topic.
"I guess- I guess...I just can't stop thinking of you," she slowly admitted with a small smile as she stared off into space in front of her.
Internally I was dancing, but I was holding my composure.
She licked her lip and looked up. "It just seems so silly. I don't even know you. I can't help but nonstop daydream about a kite."
Her words were followed by a small laugh, as she still avoided looking at me. I slowly took my hand and placed it onto hers. It took her a moment, but she slowly intwined her cold hand with mine. We, then, slowly leaned back onto the roof, letting us lie down.
"I heard you were asking about me at school..." I said.
"I didn't ask too many people. I didn't know how to ask," she let out a nervous laugh. "I sounded stupider and stupider every time...but tell me...did I ask you today?"
I let a sigh. "Unfortunately, you didn't talk to me today, but you can't go around asking about me. That'll ruin the illusion."
"I don't think you understand. I think about you all the time," she admitted, again letting out an awkward laugh. "It's driving me insane...I'm scared that you'll just stop showing up, and I won't even know who you were..."
I gave her hand a tight squeeze. "I'm not going anywhere...and I swear, I'll reveal to you who I am, but I have to keep you in anticipation."
She giggled at me and squeezed my hand even harder. "Aren't you a sadistic bastard?"
"I prefer playful," I said to her, sending her a wink.
We stayed out on the roof for about another hour before I had to go home. I wished (Y/N) a goodnight and went home, feeling like I was on cloud nine.
