Chapter 93 - Todoroki Trauma Show!
"GODDAMN IT, DEKU! I SWEAR WE'RE GOING TO HAVE TO LOCK YOU AT THE BOTTOM OF THE OCEAN TO KEEP YOUR DUMBASS OUT OF TROUBLE!"
"Awe, I missed you too, Kacchan! However, I ain't into that!"
"WHY THE HELL ARE YOU CALLING ME KACCHAN?! YOU HAVEN'T CALLED ME THAT IN YEARS!"
"I'm in such a wonderful mood that a cheap legal firework such as yourself can't even ruin it!"
"DEKUUUUU!"
You know, I prefer a 'hey welcome back from hell!' Not so much a threat, but at least I am noticed in the first place!
I am back at Endeavor's Agency, something I can appreciate because I prefer the day-to-day stuff. Not really the save the world kind of missions, if you know what I mean.
It did not take long to find Bakugo and Shoto as they are waiting at the exit for Endeavor. I'm actually shocked that I made it on time, but I'm glad I did! It would have been ass trying to find them in this city.
"Hey, Izuku," Shoto says, clearly ignoring Bakugo.
I'm obviously going to follow his lead, "Hey, Shoto! How has the place been without me?"
"We're here."
"Ain't that the truth-?"
"Midoriya," I look behind me to see Endeavor approaching, clearly unamused.
"Ah, hey Endeavor! Sorry for making you the clean-up crew for the past couples of days, but I knew you would do it! You're the best anyway at that!" Endeavor watches me for a moment. I don't know why, but he does. Eventually, he relents.
"Let's go."
We head out to the city and, to be honest, not much happens. Well, shit does happen, obviously. However, compared to what I just went through, it's practically nothing! Shoto and Bakugo are still lagging behind, but I can tell that they are catching up. Meanwhile, it's back to supporting Endeavor.
That's my work day. Uh-huh, that's it. It's a fucking miracle! Someone up there must have felt sorry for me as he didn't explode a city or anything like that!
Next thing I know, I'm chilling on the roof with Endeavor with Shoto and Bakugo slowly dying behind us. He doesn't say anything to them, so I decide to ignore them as well. I don't think they can really talk right now for how much they are having to recovering.
They can do that. I'm just going to enjoy the pretty sunset.
Then, out of nowhere, Endeavor says, "Let's go!"
Go where?
Shoto and Bakugo respond with a 'yeah' and straighten up for their next big mission. Well, big for them- you know what? You get the point. I have a lot of trauma and they don't.
When we arrive, I can't believe he brought us here.
- - -
By the time we get to the location, we arrive at a Japanese style mansion. More specifically, we are at Endeavor's Japanese style mansion.
"WHAT THE CRAP?!" Bakugo yells, and I kind of have to share the sentiment wit him. Why are we here? If there are two people you should not bring to your house, it's Bakugo and I. You are clinically insane if you bring us together.
Shoto, who is ahead of us, looks over his shoulder calmly at us and responds, "My sister said for everyone to come over for dinner." Oh boy.
"WHY THE CRAP?!" You are now seeing who I got my language from. Perfect example.
"She wanted to meet my friends." Well, that's sweet of her! Too bad you brought the worst classmates you could have brought.
"WELL, MARCH IN THERE AND TELL HER THAT WE AREN'T FRIENDS! THERE'S STILL TIME!"
I click my tongue, "I mean, you don't have to go in. You'll just have to walk home!"
"SHUT THE FUCK UP, DEKU!"
I roll my eyes as we approach the door. We don't even get a chance to knock when it opens up to reveal a young woman with white and spots of red hair and glasses opens the door.
Her smiles wide, "Hi, thank you for coming! I'm Fuyumi, Shoto's older sister! Thank you for taking care of Shoto!"
Oh my gosh, she is precious. How did she come from Endeavor? She must have gotten her kindness all from her mother because she's nothing like Endeavor. I know we only just met, but I can just tell that she's kind. It's either that or she's a really good manipulator. I rather think that she's a good person though.
I approach Fuyumi with a smile and offer my hand, "I'm Izuku! Pleasure to meet you!"
She shakes my hand with a grin, "I know who you are! You're all over the place, and you fought my brother." I withdraw my hand.
"Eh, I rather not be cocky and assume. Besides, it's just being polite."
"I understand, there's no need to worry."
I join Bakugo's side again to remove my shoes, and I can hear him grumbling about having to be here. I would intervene, but that's a him issue, not a me issue. While Shoto is asking his sister a question, I stealthily use my germ-x. I'm still a clean freak sadly.
"Still have that problem?" Bakugo huffs.
"Honey, I have a lot of problems still," I roll my eyes before lowering my tone, "Though, get ready for an awkward dinner."
"I already know everything. I ain't stupid, Deku."
"Wait, did you and Todoroki get this close-?"
"No! I overheard your dumbasses at the sports festival." Well, thank God the Todoroki family is ahead enough to not hear that. However, I'm surprised by that news. I know we didn't check, but damn.
"You mean you stalked us?"
"NO!"
Shoto interrupts our conversation by calling, "Come on."
Oh yeah, we're at the Todoroki's home. I rather be here with practically anybody but Bakugo, but I guess I could do worse.
Bakugo and I catch up, and we are lead around the house until the next thing I know, I'm sitting at the dining table beautiful food decorating it! I am be sitting in between Bakugo and Shoto, though I have no clue why I'm here. Across from me would be Fuyumi and Shoto's older brother with white spikey hair and annoyed vibes, who hasn't introduced himself yet. At the end of the table would be Endeavor, but we're just going to ignore him.
"Let me to introduce ourselves again! I'm Fuyumi, Shoto's older sister. I teach at the local elementary," Fuyumi explains, and god bless this woman because elementary kids are terrors nowadays. She signals toward the brother, "And this is Natsu. He's a college student. "
Natsuo waves to us, "Hey." I wave back. He seems cool. I suspect he is either annoyed that he is having to eat with us or that he is annoyed that he is having to share the same room as trash. I can't say yet.
"Shoto, would you like to introduce your friends?"
Shoto looks towards us, "These are my classmates from UA, Izuku and Bakugo."
I grin, "Hi hi!" Bakugo merely scoffs.
Then, there is awkward silence.
Ah. Yeah, nope. I can't deal with this. If these people can't converse, I will just carry this whole conversation! Besides, I can see Natsuo glaring at Endeavor, so I better distract him to keep him from killing the man. I'll get him to help me destroy him later.
Right now, we need peace.
"We should start eating! Don't force yourself to eat everything at the table!" Fuyumi says with a clap as she starts to gather her plate. We follow after her, and I must say that the food looks delicious.
This is a random thought process, but I am salty with Endeavor. He told me that I wouldn't need my robot arm, so I removed and left it in my bag. Here's the thing: generally speaking, you hold the bowl in one hand and eat with the other. Since one hand went to where the orphans go, I can't exactly eat like that. Instead, I'm having to lean over the bowl to eat and hope I don't make a mess like an old man.
I know this is a useless complaint, but it's awkward for me. I haven't gotten over it yet. That doesn't mean I should be wearing my robot arm for this since I'm not supposed to be wearing it as much as I am. However, I don't think an extra hour or two would hurt me that badly. My mental health is broken anyway, so might as well physically match!
...what was I supposed to be doing? Oh, right, carrying this conversation. Especially since, once again, nobody has said anything. They're just stuffing their faces.
"Question: Mind if I call y'all by your given names? There's too many Todorokis to keep track of. If you're uncomfortable with that, I can just number you guys," I ask as I copy Bakugo's proportions. Otherwise, I would probably take too much.
Fuyumi giggles, "No, it's fine!"
"Cool cool cool," I mutter as I take a bite, and it feels like I have ascended to heaven, "Wait, shit, this is very good."
"Thank you!"
"I am just telling you the truth. Now, I know what you do, and I'm sorry that you do that," I say while signaling to Fuyumi, but then I turn my attention to Natsuo, "However, I only know that you're a college student. What's your major, homie?"
I must have shocked him from his Endeavor rage because he spins to me with wide eyes and starts choking. Oops. Fuyumi has to pat her brother on the back in order to calm down. Thankfully, there is no need to Heimlich maneuver yet as he settles down!
"You...you really know how to spring it on people, huh?" Natsuo asks with a chuckle.
"Uh, I'm concerned with what you're majoring in if you had that type of reaction."
"Oh god, dude, no! I'm just surprised you asked is all!" Natsuo shakes his head at me, but he has a small smile, "I'm majoring in medical welfare." Huh. Alright then. It's not a bad thing by any means. It's just not a specific degree. It's more of a general path. I guess he's still exploring to see where he fits in there, which I understand.
"I can respect that. I wish you luck with that because I know it isn't easy."
"OH, SHUT UP, DEKU! YOU'RE RUINING THE MEAL!" Bakugo screams at me, and I face him and smile.
"And you ruined my mental state! I say it's an even exchange!" Bakugo growls at me, but he doesn't say anything else. Gotcha, bitch.
Ignoring Bakugo, we are able to have a good conversation. Unfortunately, Shoto, Bakugo, and Endeavor provide shit to the conversation, but the Todoroki siblings and I got this. They're either awkward or angry anyway.
Eventually, the conversation lands back on food.
"So how much do I have to pay you to get these recipes? These are too good to not try," I inquire as I pull out my phone and venmo. I have money now, so I can actually spend in stupid things without worry about debt collectors coming after me!
Fuyumi giggles, "I can give a copy of the recipes to Shoto next time he comes over to bring to you if you would like?"
"That works, but how much?"
"Oh, you don't need to pay me! I don't mind spreading them around!"
"May whoever is above bless you." Fuyumi giggles, and I must say, once again, that she is precious.
"That is so true. Ever since our housekeeper had to retire due to a back injury, she's been doing all the cooking," Natsuo informs us.
Fuyumi turns to her brother, "Natsu, you cooked too, remember? We took turns!"
"So I've tried your food before?" Shoto asks with a confused look. Oh boy.
Natsuo's face goes grim, and I swear on my life that he looks at Endeavor while saying this, "I don't know. My food was heavily seasoned, so Endeavor might've stopped you by saying 'don't eat stuff like this.'"
Woo boy, is it hard to breathe in here or is it just me? The tea is boiling- I'm sorry, Shoto, but I couldn't!
Okay, but focusing on the topic, that's where we draw the line? I understand having a diet and shit, but are you really not going to let your child eat spicy food? What the fuck? Get your priorities elsewhere, Endeavor!
At least the man in question has the nerve to kind of look guilty, "I didn't even realize." How the flip do you not realize that? That's a talent if anything.
And there's the awkward silence again.
Fuyumi tries to bring the conversation back, "So Shoto, what do they serve at UA?"
"Cafeteria food," Shoto blankly responds. That's such a basic answer, but it's funny at the same time. I can't even complain about it.
Unfortunately, Endeavor is unable to let go of the previous discussion, "Next time, I would like to try Natsuo's cooking-."
The man is cut off by Natsuo putting his bowl down, "Thanks for the meal," He stands up, looking down at Fuyumi, "I came. That's enough, right?" He goes to leave.
"Natsu!" Fuyumi calls.
"Sorry, sis. I can't do this."
Yeah, he is gone. I guess there is some shit there as well. I shouldn't be surprised. I don't know what, but I already know too much about the family drama. I know more about these fuckers than I know about the squad members combined family-wise.
I may say that Shoto is my best friend, but that's to be petty with Endeavor. I don't mean literally be best friends. Shouta takes that spot, whether he likes it or not.
I'm just saying that I know too much.
Focusing back on the present, my eyes catch Fuyumi to find that she does not look okay. Yet, neither of the Todorokis that are left are doing anything. In fact, they are barely reacting. I know that they are emotionally constipated, but goddamn.
I think Fuyumi is the one holding this family together. She is the only one that out of them that is demonstrating the capabilities of doing so. Otherwise, I believe the brothers would have left by now. If that isn't enough proof, she is the only one that hasn't really shown true anger towards Endeavor. I barely know Natsuo, but he has demonstrated that towards him. We all know Shoto's opinion.
We don't even talk about Endeavor.
In more simplistic terms, if someone deserves 'Surface Pressure' as their theme song, it's Fuyumi.
That is not to say that I completely understand her struggles. I don't know everything. I also know that the family has struggles that I don't understand. However, I at least acknowledge that it is there, and that's all I need to know.
When Endeavor and Shoto still don't reach out, I do. I put down my chopsticks, reach over the table, and offer my hand to Fuyumi (not in marriage). Logically, I don't want to force her to take it. Fuyumi looks down at my hand and back up at me with wide eyes. Thankfully, she does take it, and I attempt to offer her a comforting smile as I give her hand a squeeze. It's not a lot, but I rather give her something than just leave her. When she squeezes back and returns a shaky smile, I let go.
Once again, I know it's not a lot, but I don't believe that I should be more involved in the family issues as I already am.
This is something that they have to resolve on their own. Other people intervening would make the situation worse.
Anyway, the dinner resolves quietly. I don't think we can recover after that shit anyway even if we did try. Bakugo and I help out with cleaning up by bringing the dishes to the kitchen where Endeavor is washing them. It's an amusing sight to say the least. After awkwardly putting the dishes down, Bakugo and I retreat back to the dining room to pick up more.
"I feel bad for making Izuku and Bakugo help clean up," I hear Fuyumi through the walls. Why are these walls so thin? Who willing makes their walls so thin that you can hear through them? Legit, the only person that I know that willingly does this besides Endeavor apparently is Shouta with the wall between his dorm and mine, and that's just to keep a closer eye on me. I may not have accepted it back then, but, considering how fucked in the head I am now, I understand that it's partially for my safety now in case I go insane or something from all the bullshit going around.
"It would have been worse if you didn't let them help," Shoto points out. There's quiet until Fuyumi speaks up again.
"It's not like I never feel like Natsu. But now is our chance. What do you think about Dad, Shoto?" Bakugo and I are outside of the door, and I don't think we should be listening to this. Well, more like I don't want to listen to this. I was on a high of happiness before this. After the dinner, I am down to my usual levels again. Bakugo seems even more angry than usual too!
"I think of this scar as being from him. Mom...Mom endured it until she couldn't anymore. He ruined her. I can't forgive him so easily. But you know, Mom's trying to overcome this herself right now. Honestly, I don't know what I want to do myself yet. I still don't know how to feel about the old man."
Eventually, Bakugo snaps as he slams the door to the side, "You people...if you're going to invite people over, don't talk about sensitive subjects! There are still dishes that need to be washed!" I hate to say it, but he ain't wrong. I don't know about this family, but when I sit with the squad or with Mom and Eri, we don't generally talk about our traumas during dinner. We usually talk about what happened that day or the weather or something casual. If we were to talk about our traumas, I think there would be way more arguments between all of us, especially Shouta and I.
"Oh no, I'm sorry! It just slipped out!" Fuyumi scrambles to apologize.
Bakugo stomps to the table to pick up dishes, "Normally, you would think that getting invited over for dinner is a good thing! The Tofu is ruined!" He then proceeds to stomp out with his dirty dishes.
As I come over to pick up my dishes, I decide to clarify, "Your walls are thinner than spaghetti, so we overheard you. However, if it makes you feel any better, we already know the Todoroki trauma," I pick up my dishes and go to head back when I turn to face Shoto, "Don't worry about your choice. You're not in the wrong either way. Do what you believe is right, and, if it takes time for you to come up with your answer, it's whatever. You have time." Limited time, but I'm not allowed to tell him that.
That's when I leave to deliver the dishes. I didn't want to inspire him too much, but I didn't want to make him feel guilty about what he chose either. I just felt that's something he should know.
When I arrive back at the kitchen, I find that Endeavor is gone and that Bakugo has taken his place, "Awe, did you get lured in?"
Bakugo screams while aggressively cleaning the dishes, "No, you damn Deku! He said there's something that he needed to do and asked me to do it."
"Ah, so slave work!"
"SHUT UP!"
I help Bakugo out to the best of my abilities. One advantage to having only one arm is that it's kind of hard to do dishes, so Bakugo would clean them, and I would take them and set them to dry. If you ignored the new scratches in the plates and such, it worked out great!
Bakugo and I, once again, return to the living room to learn that Endeavor is not ready to take us back yet, so we attempt to have casual conversation until he is ready.
Notice the word attempt.
"I should probably explain Natsu's reaction," Fuyumi starts. Honey, no you don't. I don't want to learn more about his family right now. I just want to go home and do something beneficial for society.
That doesn't stop her, "He's mad at Endeavor due to our dead brother Toya." OH FUCKING BOY, ANOTHER ONE! She must have seen my confused look since she turns to Shoto, "You haven't told them about Toya?"
"That's not something I'm going to volunteer," Shoto responds. I'm quite surprised considering how willing you were to tell me your backstory despite us barely knowing each other, but get it, I guess.
Fuyumi looks away as she tells us the tale Bakugo and I did not ask for, "Natsu and Toya were very close. They played together all the time. It happened soon after Mom was hospitalized. Her condition ended up getting worst to the point that even Shoto couldn't go see her. But we got past that. Shoto went to visit her. Our family is making progress. Only Natsu...can't let go of his hostility. In his mind, Dad killed Toya." Jesus Fucking Christ. This family needs help. How is Fuyumi still sane from this BS?
However, I can understand Natsu's position to some extent. If I was in his position, I would probably remain mad too to an extent. After all the BS that I have been through, I realized that, when someone else or I die, I don't want regrets with that person or anyone for that matter. I can always hold onto anger, but I have enough anger for the HC. I don't need it for past issues as well. I don't know if I could forgive Endeavor, but I wouldn't be straight-up hostile with him at. That would only get me so far. Thankfully, this isn't my story. That's Natsu's story, so he can do whatever the fuck he wants with it.
"So that's why he was making that face," Bakugo says neutrally for once in his life. I don't know what face he saw, but I guess it impacted him enough to not scream. For now.
"Sorry to bring this up so suddenly," Fuyumi apologizes as she looks down.
I shrug, "Could be worst ways to spend my evening." Which is true. There are also better ways, but I won't be saying that out loud anytime soon.
That's when Endeavor comes in and interrupts, "It's time for me to take you guys back to school."
Thank fuck because I am done with your family drama for the evening, Endeavor. Well, night now.
We head out into the bitter cold with Fuyumi to greet us off.
"Thanks for the meal again! You better send me those recipes!" I say with a grin.
Fuyumi nods quickly, "Will do!"
"AND YOU BETTER GIVE ME THOSE RECIPES, DEKU!" Bakugo yells from the car.
I flip him off, "No."
"DEKU!"
Endeavor cuts him off, "Fuyumi," Fuyumi looks at him with concern, "Thank you."
Fuyumi doesn't respond at first, but she eventually smiles.
Just as I am about to move, Fuyumi reaches for my only hand and takes it with a gentle smile, "Thank you for being Shoto's friend, Izuku. It means a lot to me." It takes a lot for me to not say 'and thank you for dealing with this family bullshit.'
I instead reply with, "He's a good friend, so it's not a problem!" I smile back at her.
After saying goodbye, we get in the car and head off home.
Except my life isn't that easy, now is it?
