Chapter 90 - Barnyard Chilling
After some flying and hoping the government aviation team doesn't find us, we find out temporary base: an abandoned barnhouse!
Before you ask, yes! I hate it here!
However, we needed a place that is far from people and had a place for me to land the helicopter. Of course, we could have landed in the middle of nowhere, but I rather have shelter because we have no idea how long we are going to be here since we don't even have a clue of what to do next.
After landing the helicopter, Shouta practically kicked me off with my current babysitter Nemuri and Rody so that he can look through it to see if he finds anything. And probably to spend time with his boyfriend, but we will ignore that little tidbit of information for now.
The three of us settled after I placed the blanket down. Currently, Nemuri is looking through the paperwork to see if Rody and I missed anything, and Rody is attempting to make food with a portable stove Shouta threw at us a little bit ago. Meanwhile, I am looking through the security footage at the police station.
Thank fuck I did because that I actually learn why I was chased!
"I fucking hate this hell," I huff aloud as soon as I figure out it.
"Same," Rody mumbles as he continues to try and light the stupid stove.
Nemuri giggles softly, "You always say that, but what's it about this time?"
"What's the chances that this case technically belongs to Humarise?" I question.
Both of them look at me more serious (I mark Rody's down because he seems to have odd reactions whenever I mention that trash ass group), and Nemuri responds, "Generally speaking? Low. With you? Probably higher than it should be. Does it belong to them?"
"Yes!"
"Ooo, yes! That makes our life easier!"
"True." She isn't wrong by any means. It means I only have to deal with one group instead of two, but still! God really had to play with me, huh?
"That's something because I am finding nothing here, Izuku. Sorry, sweetie," Nemuri explains as she passes the papers to me. I roll my eyes, setting them aside. I take note of Rody returning to his work, looking glum. I swear if this boy has a connection to this group, I'm asking Nemuri to knock me out for life.
"That's fine. It means we need to get into the case itself."
"What do you mean?"
I take the now empty case and search for what could be any hidden compartments in it. It takes a little bit of feeling, but I do feel something on the bottom outside the case like a little square indent. I try to push it in only for nothing to come out.
Goddamn it. That's going to be a bitch. Before I can even think of ideas of how to get it out, my phone goes off, and I don't hesitate to answer...for some reason.
How concerning.
"Glad to hear that you are consistent as ever with picking up your calls!" Nezu's squeaky voice buzzes through the phone, and I roll my eyes.
"Yeah yeah, did you think anything?" I ask, getting straight to the point. Otherwise, Nezu will ramble on about something.
"Ah, yes! Alan Kay was a researcher that was reported missing a while back. However, he just was reported dead under an hour ago. He was driving on a bridge when his car was shot. The car crashed, and he died on impact. May I ask where you found this case?" That's not exactly comforting, now is it? It means they are willing to kill, which is a big FU to my face. Though, I guess being almost smashed in the head probably displayed the same message, huh?
"Considering there was a speed chase happening near where I was when I obtained it, that makes sense. That also lines up with what I found after stalking the police a little bit. The case belongs to Humarise. The motherfuckers sent people to chase someone else and I, since an innocent has to be involved always, for it."
"How fascinating. I suspect he took whatever was in that case without their permission if they went after him then. Maybe he was looking for help."
"He may be dead, but he got that done. Guess I have more to fight for then. Can you find his family? Don't tell them anything since I know you will fuck that up somehow, but just find where they are."
"Can do! Anything else?"
"Nope. Bye!"
Before Nezu can respond, I hang up on him.
"I'm trying to decide if you do that because you want to die or because you think you can beat Nezu in a fight. Either way, I am concerned," Nemuri points out.
I shrug, "You worry too much."
"I think I worry too little."
"That's a you problem, not a me problem. Right now, we need to bust this case open, and I have no clue how!"
"There's something inside, like, inside inside the case?"
"Yeah. At least, that's what I am assuming this indention is for."
I start fidgeting with it with no success. Nemuri decides watching me is boring, so she goes to help Rody with the stove.
I have no clue how long it has been, though I suspect it is only a few minutes, when Shouta and Hizashi comes in.
"What's cooking, guys?" Hizashi asks he approaches the shitty stove.
"The stove is cooking itself," Rody huffs. He gave up on it a little bit ago and is sitting against a haystack.
"Why didn't you guys ask Izuku for help?"
"Because Izuku is trying to get the case open," Nemuri explains as she rolls her eyes at me, not that I can see it. I can hear it.
Shouta sits down beside me, and I do not hesitate to shove the case on him, "Here. There's an indention on the bottom that might have something inside. Get it open while I fix the stove." Shouta grunts and gets to work.
I get up and approach the stove to try and get the some of the bitch working. I don't fidget with it for long when I decide to bust inside of that to find the mechanics that should be inside gone. I don't know why someone would remove that, but they did. Pop off, I guess.
"Yeah, there is no heating mechanism in this. You two were literally playing with a toy the whole time," I bluntly tell them.
"What the hell?!" Rody curses, "Who removes the inside of a stove and leaves the outside?!"
"Yeah, besides Izuku, who would do that?!" Nemuri adds.
My mouth drops as I look at her, "Ex-fucking-cuse me! Stop accusing me of things I would never do!"
"After you broke keys on your keyboard, you took keys from mine to replace them!"
"On my behalf, you triggered me to break my keyboard. I thought it was a fair trade."
"I only asked you a question!"
"You asked me if the Earth was flat."
The room is quiet for a moment.
Hizashi eventually joins my side, "I'm sorry, but you asked for that one."
Nemuri slowly nods, "Yeah, maybe I did."
Rody looks between all of us like we have lost it, "Is this normal?"
"Yes," All of us respond, including Shouta.
"Okay. Then what are we eating?"
"I say we fly to the nearest McDonalds and rob them," I advise.
Shouta interferes before anyone can respond, tilting his head up to glare at me, "Izuku, if you say you are going to commit an illegal act one more time, I'm going to rob your freedom." He then returns to the case like nothing happened. SIR!
"...let's BUY McDonalds instead!"
Hizashi chuckles, "Considering you are wanted without trying again, I don't think that's recommended. We can just eat the peanut butter and crackers Shouta and I found in the copter instead."
"With my luck, you're probably right. Even if that is painful to eat."
"Alright, I'll go get it!"
Simply put, we have peanut butter and crackers for lunch. It's terrible. Everybody but Shouta works on peanut buttering the crackers while Shouta attempts to break the case open. Attempts meaning he never got it.
When we finish, I turn to Shouta, "Can I see the case?"
Shouta raises his eyebrow and hands me the case. I then proceed to throw it to the other side of the barn because that bitch caused me so much pain and suffering.
However, when it lands, the piece we were trying to get out flies out as well.
I click my tongue, "You know, I wasn't aiming for that." I get up to chase the piece only to find what looks like a puzzle, "God fucking damn it, I want to die."
"Izuku," Shouta says sternly. I don't know whether it's because I threw the case or if it's because I said that, though I suspect it's both.
"Not literally! I'm just mad at the world right now! We get that only to find another fucking puzzle! Is this God mocking me?"
"Probably," Nemuri and Hizashi respond, and I stick my tongue out at both of them. I don't need them encouraging God.
Rody, who has started eating, looks at the puzzle, "Can I see it?"
"If you wipe your hands, yeah," I voice as I waddle back to the group. Rody quickly does as I ask, and I throw the puzzle at him as I plop down next to Shouta.
I watch this boy start spinning these little disks around, pull shit out, and fidget with the thing like he knows it. Maybe this puzzle is common around here?
Either way, Rody gets the puzzle done within a minute!
"God bless we have you! Otherwise, I would have destroyed that!" I exclaim as I take the puzzle to see what is inside, making a note in the back of my head to pay him.
Rody shrugs, "My sperm donor made me do one of those when I was younger." Oh oof, daddy issues, it seems.
"Mom got me puzzles all the time, so I get it," I decide to mention to attempt to make Rody more comfortable.
Inside the puzzle is a microSD and a little chip that I usually see be used as keys.
"You know, I was expecting all the answers for how much trouble you guys went through, " Nemuri points out, and I can't blame her one bit. However, she isn't exactly right either.
I pluck the microSD from the two and show them to everybody, "This might have the answers. I just need my laptop."
I start to stand up only to be tugged down, "After you eat, problem child," Shouta states as he shoves me my crackers.
"Sir, I don't think I'm missing much with this." He raises an eyebrow at me.
"You're usually the first to want food."
"Just because I am a starving child 24/7 does not mean I don't have standards! If my mindset worked the way you are implying, I would be eating you, and would choose to eat you over this."
"Your germaphobia would get in the way."
Rody interrupts, "Um, wouldn't human decency get in the way first?"
"No. If he's spiteful enough, he'd eat enough to satisfy himself while keeping me alive." For clarification, he says this with a straight face too.
I burst out laughing because DAMN HE AIN'T WRONG, BUT I DIDN'T EXPECT HIM TO SAY IT, "Goddamn! Like, he ain't wrong, but I didn't realize he would say that!" That's when the two other dumbasses of the squad join in the ring of laughter. Meanwhile, Rody is questioning why the fuck he is dealing with this. Hell, even his pet bird is questioning his life choices.
"I have dealt with you for four years. I know how you work at this point."
I immediately stop laughing, looking at Shouta, "Four years?" He nods, "Goddamn. Time flies."
I honestly didn't realize that I have known Shouta for four years. Like, sure. It feels like I have been in UA for years for all the shit that I have been through since entering. However, when it comes to my friends, it feels like a short time. That is especially true for Shouta when the man looks like shit nearly 24/7, and maybe the drinking removes one year from it, but I digress. That's nuts.
Thinking about it, it's funny how Shouta and I went from practically being a joke to brothers. We have our issues, but we're still together facing the world. If you were to ask me before I knew Shouta if I would be able to keep friends around for longer than a month, I would have laughed in your face and said no because that simply wasn't possible before due to genetics and ignorant dumbasses.
Look at me now.
"Awe, he's reminiscing!" Nemuri coos, ruining the moment with one sentence.
I respond with a Cheshire grin on my face, "For clarification, I know where you live."
Before Nemuri can even respond, Shouta cuts her off, "I'm not dealing with another argument. Problem child, eat."
With a huff, I pop a peanut butter cracker in my mouth.
This wasn't on my to-do list at all. I am supposed to be eating a lot to make Endeavor poor right now. I'm not supposed to be eating poor-quality food.
I shove a couple of crackers in my mouth, wipe my hands off on my pants, and grab my laptop with the police footage still on it.
"Did you find anything on that?" Shouta questions as I put the microSD in.
"Well, that case is involved with our Humarise case. That's why I'm so insistent about wanting to see this."
Hizashi chokes, "WHAT?! YOU KNEW THIS FOR, WHAT?! FIVE MINUTES?! AND YOU'RE JUST TELLING SHOUTA AND I?! THIS IS HUGE!" Shouta has to use his quirk on Hizashi to keep him from destroying our eardrums.
"Yes, but I didn't want to ruin the moment."
"Uh, but that's IMPORTANT?!"
"Well, you know now! It's not like I told nobody! I told Nemuri and Rody too!"
Hizashi sighs, "You kill me! Also, it's only your luck that that case would be connected to what we want."
"That's what I told him!" Nemuri adds.
I roll my eyes, "Y'all are so dramatic. I don't need to spill the tea just like that. Now, let me focus on this, please and thank you!"
If they say anything else, I ignore them because this is far more important than their jabbering at the moment.
Once the microSD loads, a bunch of files pop up. That is quite a bit to sneak out. No wonder they were after him! The issue now, though, is that this is a lot to look through. I could look through them, but that's way too many for that. I suspect most of this is the research itself. That's great for court, at least.
Instead, I do a file search for the most recent. When it reorganizes, the latest is a video file from yesterday. I click it and a video of an older guy with an eyepatch who is dressed up pops up. He glares into the camera as he speaks,
"My name is Alan Kay. I'm one of the scientists Humarise kidnapped. Humarise took the families of many scientists as hostages and forced the scientists to develop Quirk Factor Triggering Bombs. The first terrorist attack using the bomb paid the groundwork to gather top heroes at places where Humarise branches are located. Next, they are planning to use the Quirk Factor Triggering Bombs to eradicate those heroes. After losing its top heroes, society would collapse. Using the chaos surrounding that, they would wipe out quirk holders and make the world into one with only quirkless humans. That is the true goal of Humarise's Flect Turn. I hope my voice will reach the heroes. Take this key that my colleague, Eddie Soul, who was also kidnapped, made in exchange for his life to disarm the bombs. Please! Save the world..."
The video turns off.
Not surprisingly, Nezu's theory was right.
. . .
It doesn't take long for me to connect the dots.
I look up to find everyone around me watching the video, though I believe only Rody and I realize the true depth of those scientists to some extent.
I face Rody fully, noting the bird on his head crying yet he has a smile.
"Is Eddie Soul your father?" I ask, turning the attention to him.
Rody slowly nods, not looking at us as he faces the door to look out, "...we were told that he joined them willingly, and I couldn't help but spite him for it because he left his family behind. We had a nice life. When he left, people vandalized out home when they learned why. That ruined our lives. And to learn this..." He chuckles softly, "it's a lot."
Hizashi, bless the man, does not hesitate to wrap his arms around the kid and give him a hug. Nemuri joins right at his side as well. Thank fuck those two are good at this kind of shit.
I nod to him, biting my tongue for a moment to keep something down, then responding, "I can't say that I have ever been in your situation, but I am sorry for the bullshit you had to go through because of this group. I promise I will take them down."
I don't bother to wait for a response. Rody is too emotional right now. Instead, I take my laptop and walk out and head to the helicopter. I step in and turn around to sit down against the wall of it, not surprised when I find Shouta right at the entry. I'm guessing he followed to make sure I don't ditch them.
Shouta is completely valid.
Shouta steps inside and sits next to me arm-to-arm. I don't say anything to him, instead focusing on finding where I need to go put that chip in. That's easily enough to find with a file search, but there's a couple I have to look through to find out which one I need to go to since all the bases are listed here.
Have you ever felt so mad that you are calm? That's me right now! I am PISSED! That's why I am going straight to this because that was unfair on Rody! That was unfair on those scientists and their families! Oh, and what about all those families who lost someone during the first trigger bomb attack?! All because of what?! HEY, QUIRKS MAY END US IN THE FUTURE, SO WE'RE GOING TO END US FOR YOU! WORSHIP US AND YOU SHALL BE SAVED YADA YADA YADA-
This is all fucking BS! Scientists have already proven that the quirk singularity theory is bullshit! This is a group of fucking bitches who want revenge on the world! This has nothing to do with saving!
Let's say this all goes through, alright. Do you really think that killing every quirked person is going to stop quirked from being born? No! And what are they going to do then?! Are they willing to kill children for this cause?! If they are, they have done been needing therapy! If they don't kill them, they are probably going to enslave them because they certainly seem sick in the head for that!
Now, all that is theoretical for two reasons. If this does happen, I will still be alive. Do you really I am going to let this bottom feeder get away with this? FUCK NO! HIS ASS WITH BE DEAD WITHIN THREE DAYS BECAUSE OF ME! THEN, I'M GOING TO TAKE OVER HIS PLACE AND FIX SHIT UP BECAUSE HE'S JUST GOING TO SPILL SHIT OUT OF HIS MOUTH ANYWAY!
HOWEVER, I AIN'T GOING TO LET IT HAPPEN IN THE FIRST PLACE! FUCKING FLECT TURN BITCHASS HOE IS GOING TO BE STOPPED WAY BEFORE HE CAN EVEN START THIS DUMBASS PLAN! HE IS GOING TO BE ON HIS GODDAMN KNEES BEGGING THAT HE NEVER MET ME, AND I'M GOING TO BE LIKE 'SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN A DISCRIMITIVE DIPSHIT, DIPSHIT!'
Once I find out where we need to go (which turns out to be a different country, but thank fuck we stole their helicopter!), I slam the laptop shut. I'm so glad Shouta made me make it anger-resistant a while ago because that screen would be broken otherwise.
"Deep breaths, kid," Shouta reminds me, and I do take that deep breath.
I don't even hold back telling Shouta, "I'm going to kill him."
Shouta sighs, "For your sanity, please don't. I promise we will take him down, but killing him is not going to benefit you anymore than if you leave him alive."
"I want to set a trigger bomb off in his mouth and ass to make him suffer worse than those people did."
"Izuku-"
"Sho, I promise I'm not going to do that at least. However, if he pushes the wrong buttons, I won't hesitate to kill him."
"Kid, if you feel the need to kill him, I don't think you should face him," I swing myself to face him and argue, but he clasps a hand over my mouth, "You are more at risk of getting hurt with that mindset. That's why I am saying that. It leads to illogical decisions, and you know it."
"It's not like I'm going to pull a gun and shoot him."
"I know, but still. If you reach that state, will you consider letting me take care of it?"
"Depends, do I get to slap him as much as I want?" If Shouta ain't going to let me beat his ass, I want second best.
"Yes."
"Then yes."
Shouta nods, "Good," He stands up, stretching, "Just don't be too reckless."
I close my laptop and stand up after him, "Wasn't planning on it. I never plan anything."
"That's part of the reason."
"I know, but I'm impulsive in the first place. I'm shocked you're not arguing with me to not fight since I got injured earlier."
"You're too stubborn. You'll get hurt more if I don't work with you."
"You're not wrong."
Shouta doesn't respond that that, so I decide to check the helicopter out to understand what I am working with. Shouta probably needs some silence anyway after dealing with us for so long anyway.
Eventually, Hizashi, Nemuri, and Rody come out, and we hop in the copter and fly to a new country to chase the bitchass.
Get your knees ready, Flect Turn, because you will be on them begging to be away from me by the time I am done with you!
