Chapter 89 - New Ride
"You know, as much as I want to vibe with driving the car into the lake, I really don't want to make my situation worse. Therefore, we're just going to leave it here."
"So we can steal a car but not drown it?"
"Homie, they can replace the windows. An entire car? I think the lady having to cover my ass would just let me go to jail at that point."
"Fair enough, I suppose."
My underling brought us to a lake that's a decent ways from the city to drown a cop car. There is a forest across the road from it that we can trek through to hide from the mother fuckers, so this isn't a bad at all. It's just the whole drowning thing.
I'm suspicious enough. I don't need to be playing into that.
"Which dumbass is on the phone?" I ask. Yes, I'm still on the fucking phone with them.
"I am!" Hizashi's voice floods through, "What's up, kiddo?"
"We parked the car at the lake, and we are going to go chill in the forest until you guys pick us up. How's it going over there?" I explain as I nod my head towards the forest to the boy and lead the way.
"We just got to the hotel. The plan is to grab everything, rent out a car, and then pick you two up."
"Okay, that sounds good except how are you going to rent a car? Don't you need your driver's license or, quiet frankly, anything that does not indicate that you are a current criminal?"
"Nezu."
"Alright, I'll shut up."
Hizashi chuckles over the phone, "Well, you two should be safe, so I'll leave you two be for now! Just make sure to call me in case anything goes wrong, got it?"
"Can do, Zashi. You guys stay safe two or I'm sending y'all to jail."
"Izu-!"
I hang up on him and shrug. He can't rebel if he doesn't have the chance to rebel in the first place!
I look around to find that we have made little ways in the forest. That's probably a good thing because I get lost too easily, and I think this boy will drown me if I ask him to guide me back.
"A little ways more. We need to be able to see if they come in while not being seen ourselves," I call to my underling behind me.
He groans, and I can hear his bird tweeting with him, "Why should I even stick with you at this point?"
I determine we are deep enough and turn to face him, "Because you and your family could possibly be chased after for whatever is in that case. Simply put, you're not safe."
"I'm not safe with you either though?" A logical statement.
"I mean, you're not wrong. However, my peers and I are heroes so it's not like we don't have experience with this. We can provide some good ol' protection!"
"Hold up. If you guys are heroes, why are you people so suspicious?"
I shrug, "Because I became wanted."
"Dude, you're not making yourself look any better." I raise my hands to try and placate him.
"Okay, it's probably better if I explain, so listen up. My homies and I are heroes in Japan. However, I became wanted since Humarise equals quirkless equals me, which is false by the way. The dumbasses weren't willing to let me go off by myself so they followed me and became wanted as well. Then, we came here to fuck up Humarise, and that's the part of the plan we're on now with a sidequest!"
My underling bluescreens.
I shrug, "That's my life in a nutshell."
He comes up right beside me, "And why should I believe you? You guys did kidnap me, after all, and I seem to be more of a liability than anything. If you keep the case, I can go home. Easy, right?"
"Yeah, except you forgot the whole 'they might case after you and your family anyway for information.' Other than that, you're right!"
The boy groans, sitting down on the ground, "Damn it! Will my family be safe then? I have two little siblings." He does not give a big brother vibes. Of course, Shouta doesn't give those vibes either, yet he's the most protective ass big brother I know.
Yeah, I should learn not to judge people by their covers...somewhat. If people think I am a mass murderer, I think I have the right to do so.
"I can't tell you since I don't know much about them. However, since the only reason you are involved in this is because of the case, I don't think it's likely unless the police know you. If that's the case, then probably," I explain. I know that's not a good answer, but it's the truth.
He looks at me and huffs, "Alright, so how long will this take to blow over?"
"At most, a couple of days. I'm hoping to have fixed everything by then. If not, they should have forgotten you by then so you can return home."
"Shit. Dude, what about my brother and sister?"
"We can kidnap them too-"
"Now you are playing." Let me have my fun. I'm stressy spaghetti.
"Yeah, yeah. I have legal hero friends that can watch over them for you or at least check in on them."
"Define legal. I just need to make sure that we are on the same page."
"They aren't wanted, and they have their hero license. I assume they have rights to act here too since I just saw them chasing someone earlier."
"Wait, it isn't just you guys from Japan here?"
"Nope. We're after the same people, but they're too egotistical to work with me. The guys I'm talking about got dragged along since they're interns."
"And you think that they will listen to you?"
"One of them, yes. If it gets him away from his father, I believe he will follow through with it."
"What?"
"That's tea for another day. Either way, I promise you that he is trustworthy. One of the top students in my class, actually, so they would really be in safe hands."
"And you promise that he will protect them?"
"I mean, he unknowingly killed this guy to protect our classmates, so more than safe!"
"How in the fuck do you unknowingly kill someone?!" I ask myself that question to this day. However, it works in my favor since we really don't need to add more trauma on that boy.
"It hasn't clicked that freezing a guy's internal organs is bound to kill him. He had every reason to do it since the one he killed could have easily killed all our asses. Still, we'll keep him innocent. Now, you in on that plan or not? We can call them right now."
"Wouldn't that- you know what? I am starting to realize that you seem to think about every little thing, so you probably have a solution." Glad we're getting somewhere, homie.
"You're not wrong! Alright, let's call him."
I pull out my phone and go through my contacts until I find 'daddy issues' and call.
It picks up on the first ring.
"Izuku, is it a smart idea to call me when you're wanted?" Is the first thing Todoroki asks. I'm not surprised.
"I already called your father, so no big deal!"
"Why?"
"I threatened him for information. As much as I would love to discuss your hatred of Endeavor with you, I need a favor from you."
"If it gets me away from him, yes." I know Todoroki so well!
However, a familiar chihuahua barks through the phone, "WHAT THE HELL, ICY HOT?! YOU GET A CALL FROM DEKU, ANSWER, AND AGREE TO DO A FAVOR FOR THE IDIOT WITHOUT ASKING WHAT IT IS ABOUT?!"
"Yes."
"IDIOT!"
I roll my eyes, "Put me on speaker," I hear the beep and grin, "What's up, motherfucker?"
"WHAT THE HELL DO YOU WANT, DEKU?!" Less attacky, more sappy.
"Simple: I need Todoroki and not you to go watch over some kids. You see, a citizen was in the wrong place at the wrong time, and now he's kind of wanted by the mafia or some shit. He has two little siblings that he is concerned about, which is why I am calling in this favor."
"HOW DID HE MANAGE THAT?"
"Don't ask. It's a yes or no."
"Yes," Todoroki says once again.
Bakugo snaps, "Fine! Send me the damn address."
I sigh, "Please don't get this boy a child abuse report."
"I'M NOT STUPID, DEKU!"
"You act like it, though. I'll send the address in a moment! Now later-"
"WE'RE NOT DONE-!"
I hang up on Bakugo and shrug to the boy, "We got your babysitter!"
"He sounds like hell to deal with," He points out.
"He is, trust me. I sadly grew up with him. Now, do you want to call your siblings to let them go what is going on?"
"Yeah- hey!"
I throw the phone over to him and step away. I'm not going to get involved in that family drama. Besides, it gives me a moment to think.
Let me tell you that I am pretty stressed right now, my homies! I was supposed to just beat the shit out of the Humarise leader, you know? Now, I am wanted as my alternate persona and gotten involved in yet another issue.
Why me, God?
As much as I want to plan right now, I need everyone together before we make our next move. I hate that, but that's how it has to go. We need something completely new unless something falls into our laps, which is unlikely.
I almost regret this entire thing. Almost. If the illegal part wasn't mixed in, I could have already beat this bitches ass, but noooooo. I'm illegal now! In more than one form too!
Despite that, I'm still spiteful towards the bitch. Flect Turn has pretty much fucked up my image for life. I have every right to hate him no matter how tragic his backstory may be.
In the mean time, I'll be taking down the mafia chasing after the fancy hobo beside me, I guess.
"I finished!" Speaking of the fancy hobo, he calls out. I return back and take my phone, "Thanks for that."
"No problem. I understand in a traumatized point of view."
"That's concerning."
"I've been told that many times before. Anywhos, since we have nothing else to do, wanna bust open that case?" I ask. That's where all the clues are going to be, so might as well start there.
"Sure," He agrees readily (considering he was doing illegal things before this, I'm not shocked), "Wait, you never told me your name."
"Oops!" I look at him and smile, "Izuku Midoriya at your service!"
He immediately stops me, "The quirkless kid that's been making news nonstop?!"
"Oooo, am I a celebrity here?"
"I mean, yeah! The quirkless population is decently high here, so lots of people have been tracking your story since you revealed at the whatever you guys call it. You're also very controversial."
"People be making anything a controversy," I explain, "But yeah, that's me! Just illegally blonde now!"
"That was a terrible joke."
"I know. Let's move on and forget that happened by telling me your name."
He grins at me, "Rody Soul, pleasure to meet you."
"Holy shit, your name is bomb." Yeah, that spills out before I can stop it because it's true! I would pay for a name like that!
"Not the first time I've been told that. Open the case," He says as he sets the case in front of him. Pushy much? Not that I blame him. I'm curious about what the hell they are after.
I hesitantly sit across from him on the disgusting ground and pick up the case. For some dumb reason, it's unlocked, so I set it back down and open it up...
To find nothing. Well, that's not true. There's business shit you would expected, but that's it.
"That's lame," Rody huffs as he looks in it to see if there is anything else.
I click my tongue, "Something's off."
"Off?"
"Why in the fuck would they want this if it's just random junk? Something as to be hidden here," I explain as I start digging and looking through everything.
Upon closer inspection, it seems to be a lot of useless documentation, but one important thing I do find is a passport with the name Alan Kay. I'm guessing he's the one who had this. I pull out my phone and send that name to Nezu to research for me before continuing.
Other than that, there's presumably nothing in the information itself unless there is a code.
Well, they aren't going to be here for a while anyway, so I start trying to find something. Anything.
"What are we looking for?" Rody asks as he picks up some papers. I guess he can help.
"If you see anything that looks weirdly written, set it aside. When I say weirdly, I mean something that doesn't follow human language. Also, if random words are italicized, bulleted, bolded, or side notes."
"Got it."
That's what we spend the next five to ten minutes doing. During that time, we find nothing.
Goddamn, do they just want this guy's passport or something? If so, that is some next level simp. Either that or they are into some documentation that allows you to move to France. Whatever it is, it's concerning for that person.
Then, I hear what sounds like a loud helicopter fly near us. I jerk up from the paperwork to find it slowing down practically right next to us.
Yeah, my gut is telling me this is sus AF.
I snatch the papers from Rody and shove them in the case, slamming it closed as I stand up with it, "Yo, we need to move. That helicopter is giving 'i'mma jump you' vibes."
Before a single word can spill out of Rody's mouth, a familiar arrow lands between us.
Damn, she is already back- wait, how did she find us? Did she happen to stalk us, find us, leave, and come back with the copter? No, that's too inconvenient.
Wait, the case. The case has to have a tracker if they found us out in the middle of a forest. Fucking hell!
"Hand over the case!" Little Green Riding hood yells from her sweet new ride. Upon closer inspection (after getting the right angle to look through the leaves), I see at least two other people up there. Now that's not good.
I consider hanging the case over because, from our search, we found nothing useful. However, then I remind myself that they are after it for a specific reason that I don't know. That leads to the new issue of 'how the fuck are we going to escape this?'
I don't think we can, but one of us can. That's better than both of us going down, and he's a citizen, so it's fine.
"Rody, run. I'll take care of this," I explain as I use the leftover scarf on my left arm to secure the case on my back to free my hands.
Rody looks at me like I have lost it, "Are you nuts?!"
I look at him with one of my insane grins, "Yip yip! They won't chase after you because the only reason they found us is because there's a locator in the case! Now go! I'll keep them busy!" I then turn my attention to the mother fuckers on the plan, "COME AND GET IT!"
"You better survive, dumbass!" Rody calls as he runs off, narrowly avoiding the arrow.
I call out louder, "I'M THE ONE THAT HAS THE CASE!"
That catches their attention.
One of the guys move to the front and jump out, clearly not caring about his landing as he just crashes to the ground. Upon closer inspection, he looks normal until he straightens up to reveal a syringe in his neck.
Oh fuck oh fuck OH FUCK! WHY THE FUCK DO THESE BASTARDS HAVE TRIGGER?!
I jump out of the way of an arrow and watch the normal man become a fucking ugly-ass demon as he literally becomes all red. Upon closer inspection, it seems to have focused mostly on his arms, so I will definitely need to avoid some punches.
Either way, this is a terrible match for me, especially since I don't have any of my gear except for my typical pocket knife. I'm afraid I will have to use that.
I immediately run the opposite direction Rody went. I just need to distract until they-
Shit, the squad!
"GET BACK HERE!" The ugly-ass demon yells as he chases me, knocking over literal trees with his arms like they are nothing.
"Yeah, no!" I call back, and I swerve through the trees. Damn it, I wish I didn't sacrifice my scarf to a fucking subway.
Wait, focus Izuku. They need to know first.
I pull out my phone and click the emergency contact button, which should lead to Shouta.
It picks up on the first ring, and Shouta's voice comes through, "What's wrong?"
"I'm being chased by a helicopter and someone that used trigger on themselves! Pretty sure there's a tracker in the case!"
I hear Shouta curse at whoever is driving before coming back, "We see the helicopter. Give us two minutes. Run and stay on the phone-"
You're asking for too much, Shouta.
I barely notice what looks like a silver ball fly in front of me, and I skid to a halt, unsure of what it is. The silver ball turns out to be a quirk as it suddenly becomes gigantic, blocking off my path to run. To pour more salt on a wound, just as I am turning around to face the demon, an arrow pierces through my left shoulder. Since it went through the hand holding the phone, I accidently drop the phone.
I can't run. Hiding would be futile. My best chance is to fight at this point.
I pull out my pocket knife with my right arm and pull the blade out as the guy watches me.
The bitch starts laughing, "Like that puny little thing will do anything to me!"
"Oh, you must relate to it!" I shout.
Yeah, that pisses him off, but I don't get the chance to really appreciate the reaction as I rush him. If I get close to him, I assume Green Riding Hood won't shoot unless she wants to hurt her friend. That's a strong hope though.
Once I am close, the demon bitch tries to slam his arm on top of my head, and I roll out of the way. While his arm is on the ground, I take the chance to slash it. A metal smell fills the air as it splatters all over the place.
He looks down at me, "YOU BASTARD!"
He sweeps his bleeding arm right at me, and I don't get to dodge that due to the size. When it slams into my chest, I grit my teeth and stab the real bastard, twisting it to weaken the eventual blow to myself.
I am sent flying, and I nearly crash into a tree when I feel something wrap around my chest and tug me away from said tree.
"YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"
Oh, thank fuck, they're here!
Hizashi screams at the real bastard, causing him to collapse to the ground and try to cover his ears, which he can't with his shitty ass arms. Soon after, Nemuri rushes in to put him to sleep.
When I finally land from the skies, I am captured into familiar arms.
"Problem child," Shouta grumbles, clearly tired.
I huff, shoving him away since there is still shit going on. I look where the helicopter should be to find that it is still there with the Green Riding Hood preparing another arrow.
I look at Shouta, "Shouta, we need to get up there."
I can tell that he isn't happy about this. If anything, he seems more pissed than usual, but considering the situation, he can't say whatever he wants to say yet.
Instead, without a word, he wraps his capture scarf around my chest again, being extra careful with the shoulder. He gets into the trees first for more height, dragging me with him.
Then, Shouta gets his capture weapon around the leg of the helicopter and brings us up.
"I'm swinging you in! Be careful!" Shouta yells as he starts swinging me back and forth like a ball, trying to get the momentum to actually get me up there.
Obviously, the hoes see our plans. The Green Hooded lady tries to shoot us, but Shouta decides at that moment to send me inside. He lets me go, and I fly right into the helicopter, tackling her to the ground. I casually grab her head, slamming it to the ground to knock her out. I immediately hop up before ballso can do anything and kick him in the head to knock him out as well. Shouta's capture weapon shoots past me to the guy in the driver's seat, who is aiming a gun at me (which I didn't notice). He snatches the gun and proceeds to approach and knock him out.
Shouta scans for anybody else before practically demanding me, "Take over."
I nod because I am afraid of pissing the man off more if I say something.
I approach the pit and look over everything. Surprisingly, I have never flown a helicopter. I mean, I know how from Nezu's classes, but I never got hands-on experience.
I guess I am getting that now.
"Where did you guys park?" I ask.
Shouta merely points at the direction, and I follow forth. It turns out that they parked next to the lake, which there are no parking spots for. Still, it works for me because I have a place to land. It takes me a moment to remember how to land safely, but I do it!
Shouta doesn't bother to wait for me since he steps out immediately, so I follow after him.
Once we step out, I notice Rody leaning on the car, and he looks at me with shock, "Yo, are you okay?!"
Oh yeah, I still have an arrow in my shoulder.
"This is but a-"
"The idiot will be fine. Izuku, come here," Shouta interrupts. I don't really get a choice in whether I want to come or not as he grabs my wrist and practically drags me over to the car. He goes to the trunk, pops it open, and pulls out his bag. Not surprisingly, he has a medkit in his, "Over here and sit," He explains as he leads us to the nearby tree.
This is concerning behavior. I am trying to decide if I need to comfort Shouta or run for my life for pissing Shouta off. Considering he is putting distance between Rody and I, that says a lot.
I sit down on a root without a word, and Shouta gets to work remove the arrow. Personally, I would like to rip it out, but apparently that's not healthy, so we are doing it in a safer way.
We don't talk at first. I guess Shouta needs a moment to gather his words, which happens when he is emotionally constipated.
I almost accidently ignore him when he does say something, "Are you okay?"
I look up at him, though he ain't looking at me. He's focused on that wound.
I click my tongue, "I'm still here, what do you think?"
Shouta rolls his eyes, "I know that. I mean mentally."
"This is my typical Tuesday, so -!"
"Izuku," Shouta cuts me off, pausing to finally look me in the eyes. I don't know what he is looking for but he eventually sighs and gets back to work, "I should have never sent you by yourself with him, and I apologize." Oh my fucking God.
"Bitch, you didn't know that would happen. In a normal situation, that would have been the safer option."
"Yes, but you deal with enough by yourself. I know I sent you by yourself for speed, but it would have been okay to sacrifice some if you had someone there with you."
"Sho, what the fuck are you talking about?"
"How many situations have you been in with someone you trust compared to situations where you were practically by yourself? You deserve someone at your side. I know you're used to going alone and more than capable, but this is getting ridiculous. And it seems like every time you do get into something you're in a worse state than before."
Now it's my turn to sigh because I rather not rethink my trauma, "Shit happens. You can't prevent everything."
"But I can try for you, kid," Shouta finishes wrapping my arm leaning back and looking at me again, "You've been willing to go beyond over and over again. I need to do the same to stay at your side."
Okay, that makes me a little warm inside, but I am never going to admit that.
I stand up, checking the bandage real quick, "Yeah, yeah. I just need you nearby. Not right there, dumbass."
Shouta shakes his head, reaching forward to try and ruffle my hair, "Never asked for your opinion on it," He goes back into the kit and offers me a wet wipe, "You have some blood on you."
Of course the fucker is going to use my line. I don't bother to respond to him as I just wipe my face, visibly cringing at how much blood covers it.
Ew.
"Yo, what's up, my listeners?!" Hizashi announces too loudly as he emerges from the forest with Nemuri behind him.
"Well, I have a couple of people to tie up!" I respond.
"WHAT?! WHY DIDN'T YOU TIE THEM UP BEFORE?!"
"Because Shouta was being overprotective!" Shouta glares at me for that one, but I ignore it.
"SOUNDS ABOUT RIGHT! Come on, Nem!"
The two step on the helicopter to deal with those people. Meanwhile, Shouta and I join Rody back at the car.
"So what are we going to do about the case? Throw it in the lake?" Rody asks.
I raise my eyebrow, "What's up with you wanting to throw shit in a lake? " He shrugs, "Well, we're not doing that. I can turn off the tracker."
I pull out my phone, and, with a little hacking magic, I turn that off along with the one in the helicopter, "There!"
"You just did it from your phone?!" Rody exclaims, looking at the ordinary looking phone. The bird on his shoulder is flapping like crazy.
"Yip yip!"
"Damn. You could take over the world with that."
"Shouta says I have to wait until I am 18." Rody gives me a confused look. However, Shouta pinches the bridge of his nose, though I don't know why. He legit said that to me! I simply shrug in response to Rody.
"Yo, we have them!" Hizashi announces as he drags three people out, "What are we going to do with them? Leave them?"
"Yeah. I'll call Endeavor to come pick them up. Meanwhile, everyone grab your shit because we're taking the copter!"
Shouta facepalms, "We're not taking the helicopter."
"We earned it though! We defeated the level!"
Nemuri supports me, "I don't see why not. We would get to places faster with it."
"It's probably stolen, and I rather not deal with that," Shouta tries.
I raise my hand, pursing my lips before responding, "Sir, we're already villains technically. We might as well appreciate our time as a villain squad."
"Ooo, has a nice ring!" Hizashi exclaims.
"I know right?"
Shouta sighs louder, done with life, "Fine."
"Yay! Let's go!"
