Chapter 74 - Sus Ass Place

God must really want me to suffer when he decided to put me on a fucking undercover mission of all things. Why?! Did I need this in my life?!

DID I?!

Do you see what I am going through right now, God? Let's see (not in order), I have a traumatic past involving bullying to the point of permanent injuries. I have germaphobia. I was an alcoholic. I have had to save multiple dumbasses multiple times which may or may not have involved risking my life. I lost my arm, which has lead to my new phobia of fire. I had to fight the fucking media and HC to become a hero. I have so many people relying on me even though I am only 16 years, and that is probably because I am free labor.

And now this.

There's more, but we're going to ignore that because I could make a goddamn book about it.

Either way, I think I am doing more than what Jesus ever did in his lifetime. Move out of the way, Jesus! I am replacing you!

Seriously, though, this is getting ridiculous. When can I be a normal teenager? I get that I never was one in the first place, but I would have liked an attempt at it.

Enough complaining from me. It is time to actually figure out what the fuck I am doing.

The plan is to get to Deika City before morning, which I have no idea if that is possible or not, but we'll make it work one way or another. Before that, I have to grab my shit without letting anybody except Nezu know, leave, and switch to my fake persona.

I'm glad they made this meeting so late in the evening. It means that everybody in the squad is out doing something right now. Mom is aware that I have a meeting, but she doesn't know how long it is.

Huh. I had this planned out before realizing I was going to be leaving everybody behind! That or somebody above really wants to separate me from my family. In that case, they succeeded.

I head back to UA with no issues and make my way to my room. When I get there, I pull out my big backpack and get to work packing. Unfortunately, since I am undercover, I can't bring any of my gadgets unless I want attention.

That makes me hella uncomfy since I will have no practical weapons, but we are going to ignore that.

The only thing I can take with me is my robot arm and something that falls in the undercover realm. That leads to me picking up some glasses, which have a couple of features, but they aren't anything big. I think I made them while I was drunk a couple years back, but I digress. Next, I grabbed all my disguise clothes and shove them in there, ignoring the part that they are suits. I pack up anything else I need for the disguise, a extra non-connected phone, and a laptop. I close it and throw it over my shoulders.

Going through my pockets a quick moment, I leave my phone and other small gadgets behind on my side table.

Step 1 complete. Now, it's time to tell Nezu.

Getting to his office is no problem since it is second nature to come in. I knock on the door, wait a moment, and enter.

When I enter, I find him sitting at his desk working on paperwork. What surprises me is that Eri is also here, chilling at his coffee table coloring.

Whoever the fuck decided to leave Eri with Nezu of all people is going to hear it from me when I get back.

"Izuku!" Eri exclaims as she runs into my legs, "Are you coming to play with me finally?!"

I bend down to her height and hug her, "Sadly, no. I didn't even know you were in here. Who were you with last, if you don't mind me asking?"

Eri looks as me sad, "Yagi, but why can't you stay?" Damn it, I didn't want to make her sad. However, at least I know I need to beat Yagi up whenever I get back.

"I'm needed for a super secret mission. Kind of like the mission where I saved you," I explain to her.

"Does that mean you are bringing back a sibling?" Okay, maybe that wasn't the best way of explaining it.

"Not likely, but you never know. However, I need you to not tell anyone what I am about to tell Nezu, alright? If you don't, I'll give you candy apples when I get back. If they try to get it out of you, just tell them to go to Nezu."

"And play time?"

"Of course!" Eri pulls back and mimics zipping her mouth, "Very good. Now, get back to coloring. We need some more colors in this world."

"Okay! Be careful, Izuku!" She goes back to the coffee table.

"I will," I tell her as I get up and approach Nezu's desk.

Nezu looks at me with curiosity, "Usually, you try to avoid me outside of school hours. Has something happened?" Within reason, Nezu.

"I'm going out of town. I'm needed at the hero convention in Tokyo," I tell him. Nezu looks over me carefully.

"This seems rather sudden."

"No shit."

"Are you going to be gone a while?"

"I have no idea how long. That's why I am telling you. Don't tell Sho and them to chase after me. It could compromise me."

"Aizawa is going to kill you for this."

"You already have my grave prepared, so it's fine."

"Very true. I wish you luck, Izuku. Please do be careful. We don't need you coming back with any more injuries."

I strut out of the office, "No promises! Later, Nezu! Bye, Eri!"

Nezu is probably going to figure out the truth. He's the stalker type. I won't stop him, though. Not this time.

Of course, before I leave, I steal Shouta's motorcycle.

Look, I have done so many upgrades on the fucker to the point that it's probably the best bike in the country, yet Shouta never uses it! He tells me that he didn't experience mid-life crisis, but I think this proves otherwise. Either way, I think I have full rights to steal it. If I didn't add the capability for it to become a small box for portability, I wouldn't. But I did, so it's mine now until I return.

You never know if there will be an emergency!

With that, it's time to actually get into disguise. I decide to head to Mom's old apartment for that. We still own the place since we have the money. We kept it just incase she ever wants to move there again. That means a perfect temporary base.

The good thing about undercover work is that I already have a person prepared for this. I haven't had an excuse to be him in a while since I am busy with hero work and shit, but now I get to use him for hero work!

Mikumo Akatani is finally getting some time in the sun! Not really considering the entire outfit is black, but we're going to ignore that. Of course, there is going to be some issues with this. First, I will be wearing silts for increased height and the robotic arm the entire time. That's not going to be pretty on my body. However, we work with what we got.

The other issue is the personality thing. Usually, when I am Mikumo, I take two pints of blood from myself in order to calm down. I don't have time for that, so I'm probably going to pick up a bunch of drugs on the way there to manage my hyperactivity. Though, thinking about it, that's probably not the best idea considering I need to be aware at all times.

I don't know. I'll figure it out one way or another.

Becoming Mikumo takes an hour considering the hair, the makeup, and all that jazz. Compared to Hizashi's hair routine though, this is better. The only difference from my usually dress-ups is the fact that I added glasses, which hides my really round eyes. I consider that an added benefit.

A quick lookover shows that I am now an adult! Nobody can control me anymore!

Too bad I still have the fucking mission.

I repack my shit and leave the building. Now that I am an adult, I need to figure out a way to get to Deika city. I could take Shouta's bike. However, not only would that be illegal of me, but that would turn attention onto me.

Therefore, I'm looking at public transport. Disgusting, I know, but I ain't in the highlife. I'm practically a slave.

After some research on the internet, I conveniently find a bus that travels from the nearby bus station to Deika City. Even better, the next ride is in an hour.

I fucking hate the bus, but I have to do this.

It doesn't take long for me to get to the bus station and grab a ticket. The longest part is actually waiting for the bus to arrive.

When it does arrive, I get on and take one of the backrow seats. This is when shit gets interesting.

Now, a little information about Deika City: it is in the middle of fucking nowhere. It is so far in the middle of nowhere that there are no daily subways that go through it. If you want to go there, you drive or ride there. Though, I guess if you are Hawks, you could fly. You would think that the place is a little special since it exists in the middle of nowhere, but there isn't a lot to it. There's no reason to actually go there unless you work or live there. Even then, it doesn't even provide many opportunities for that. It's mostly boring people living boring lives there. Heck, there isn't even any noteworthy tourist attractions! That's not to say Deika is small cause of all that. It's a decent sized place. I don't know how, but it is.

In summary, it's a decent-sized city with no appeal.

Why did I mention all that?

Well, I would expect maybe only a few people on the bus. There's just no reason for many people to travel to Deika City besides for returning from work.

However, this bus was full. Very full to the point I had to share my seat with someone and nearly punched them out for how close they were sitting. I looked before to see if there was any big events going on at the time, and I found nothing. So why are there so many people? The only running theory at the moment is that there are more people than I thought that work out of town.

That theory is quickly squashed as soon as the bus starts going. Looking around, I notice that a LOT of people are talking to one another. They are making conversation across the bus for fuck sakes.

Once again, that wouldn't be a big deal if every conversation had a different topic point. All these conversations had something to do with their quirks. Not one was a regular conversation. If that isn't sus, I don't know what is. It doesn't help that they all know each other, so I am probably the oddball out. Usually, I would shove it aside as a club or whatnot, but with this many people, I think I am allowed to be concerned.

Either way, I am not happy with these conversations. You know those people who make their sexuality their personality? Like, they will bring up their sexuality often for no reason? This has that same vibe but with quirks.

Do they lack personality to the point that their quirks compensate for it? I understand that quirks are a big part of a person, but this is ridiculous.

Thinking about it, is that why Bakugo constantly explodes literally? His personality is shit otherwise, so he goes boom boom to compensate? If he was quirkless, everyone would have hated him when we were in elementary school. However, because of his quirk, he got everyone to follow him.

Is that why God didn't give me a quirk? I have an actual personality unlike most people, so I didn't need a quirk to cover that part for me?

Holy shit, I am a genius. I'm so going to use that next time I see Bakugo.

That is, if Shouta lets me live to see next time after this shit. However, I'm going to ignore that part for now.

I need to stop getting so absorbed in my head in general, but that's never going to happen.

Back to the present, that's all they talk about. THE WHOLE DAMN RIDE, THIS IS ALL THEY TALK ABOUT!

I'm already anxious here. I'm trapped in a fucking bus, which is not good for someone who can't sit still for a minute anyway. Then I have to listen to this bullshit when I'm quirkless?

I'm regretting my life choices.

I don't do much for the ride but listen. I hear a couple of suspicious things, but I shove it under the rug for now since I'm only here to make sure the city isn't being controlled by a yakuza or some shit.

The ride is two hours. When we finally enter Deika City, I have to get off calmly.

The city itself seems pretty average. Nobody is dying on the streets or anything like that.

That's not to say the city is innocent though. Usually, a decent-sized city wouldn't be so interconnected with people. That's reserved for a small town. But I see everyone here talking to one another like it is.

I don't get it. Right now, I need to get to my hotel and check that place out first. Only then will I do some investigating.

Finding the hotel is as hard as one would expect from me. It takes an hour, but I find it eventually next to a bar. The bar there will benefit me later. I need to focus on the hotel right now.

A quick sign-in later and I am in a hotel room! It's nothing special as it is a simple one bed room. In fact, it's probably disgusting. However, it will work for now. There's no reason for me to be picky.

After putting my stuff down, I tap on my glasses once at the side. As everyone should be aware at this point, these aren't ordinary glasses that cover my ugly-ass eyes. These glasses have two purposes. The one I'm using now allows me to see if there are cameras within the area of the glasses themselves. The second is just a basic recording device.

Thankfully, nobody will be seeing me naked during my time here. It proves there is some sanity to this place.

Now that I am officially settled in my room, it is time to stalk people for information. Despite it being late at night, there is always one place where you can get that tea; the bar.

Should I be going to a bar? Probably not. However, with alcohol, I should be able to calm down enough.

Damn, if Shouta ever learns about this, my head is gone.

Welp, you know what they say: it can't hurt them if you don't tell them!

I check to make sure that I look adult, grab my wallet with my fake ID, and head to the bar!

Entering the bar, it's a pretty simple thing. It's certainly something that would pop up if you type 'pictures of bars.' It doesn't seem to have a concept, but when you're drunk, you don't really notice that anyway. It's just dim. I'm just happy it is clean enough for my standards.

I make my way to the bar, listening carefully to what everyone is saying as I sit down. Looking at the menu and its patrons, I decide to just order a beer. I don't want to stand out for wanting something fancy like a margarita.

And that's where I remain until the bar closes. I sip my beer while I stroll around, chat, and listen to the drama.

At this point, I am sure something is going to happen. There is so many whispers revolving around quirks that it doesn't make sense. Despite popular belief, quirks don't really come up in conversation that often unless you are talking about heroes.

Considering I heard the word revolution pop out more times than I cared to count, it's concerning. With the amount of chatter, this is huge. This wouldn't be a worry if this was citizens going to complain to the government about something, but these people are talking about the training with their quirks. They have trained them. That's the dangerous part.

If the whole town is in on this and possibly beyond? It's going to be a fucking civil war.

I can't help but be frustrated. Because I am undercover, I can't tell the HC shit (not that they are helpful anyway, but they could send help). If something happens, there is nothing I can do but watch. The citizens that want nothing to do with this (if that is even a thing in this town) are screwed.

I return to my room and wait for dawn to rise before setting out on a morning walk.

Once again, this place is too interconnected considering the size. In addition, I noticed some of the people reading these red books. I've seen them around on the streets in general, but it's definitely more-so here, so I picked one up at the book store.

The name?

Meta Liberation War

Oh boy, this is going to be a fun read!

When I have walked enough, I return to my room to get the gist of it. Apparently, Destro, the guy who wrote it, believes that the people should go to war with the government in order to allow free quirk use!

Honestly, why is this shit allowed to be published? Shouldn't the government, I don't know, burn it so that it never comes back? It doesn't help that it has been reprinted multiple times!

As a quirkless, I say that free quirk use shouldn't be allowed in public without permission. If you are at home, go off. If it benefits your work, go off. But in public? I can show you multiple marks from quirk use that is supposed to be illegal, and I bet that I am not the only one. If it was legal, I would probably be dead.

This is a horrible mission. I am literally around a bunch of quirkist bastards when I am quirkless myself.

Three Days Into Undercover

Since my last discovery of the book, nothing has really come up. The only thing that has caught my attention was how people were acting yesterday. It had a certain vibe that I wanted nothing to do with.

Yet, I have to stay.

Today, the town is completely different. There is nobody around.

What is going on?

I return back to my hotel to quickly grab my stuff because I don't trust this place at this point. I sign out of the hotel and move to the alleyways, slipping through them until I find a fire exit. I use it to get to the roof so I can get a better view.

As it turns out, it isn't just my part of town. The whole city is void of people.

I turn the recording feature on my glasses and make my way across the roofs, thanking above that nobody is hiding up here at least. And it's like this for a while.

It's nearly suffocating how quiet it is.

Then, I notice something off in the distance. I decide to get a closer look. That's a bit difficult as I don't want to be seen, but I manage to get within distance to see-

OH, COME ON!

WHY THE FUCK IS THE FUCKING LEAGUE OF VILLAINS HERE?!

WHY?

WHY?

WHY?!

They are being lead by Slidin Go, a hero that I presume now is not a hero. They eventually make it to what I assume to be the center of town, which I follow to the best of my ability. In the corner of my eye, I see some people coming on the roof, forcing me to be silent.

I don't even hear what Shigaraki says due to that stupid hand still covering his face. Glad to know he is still self-conscious.

I strain to hear Slidin Go's dumbass voice since he is too far despite being loud, "Right you are! This is Deika city. It's a liberation zone where 90% of the population are liberation warriors in hiding."

Another guy comes out who looks like a cleaned-up version of Shouta,"Today is a special day. You are the guests. Welcome our new friends," The Shouta rip-off snaps his fingers. The city suddenly livens up as so many people hop out of nowhere with their quirks prepared to fight, "to our revival party!"
