Chapter 111 - Update on Izuku Search
Shouta POV
It has been two weeks since I have woken up. It has been nearly three since Izuku was kidnapped.
...it's been hard.
There were moments in the past where I wanted a vacation from Izuku. I just wanted a break from the damn brat. However, this isn't what I wanted. I rather deal with him constantly just so I know that he is safe than go through this. I miss him. I miss waking up every morning hearing him scream a song he heard on the radio. I miss the fights we would get into over the most ridiculous things. I miss his smile whenever he would be showing something he made, no matter how stupid it may be.
I miss Izuku.
Everything has been hard since I woke up. As soon as I was able to leave the hospital (after being forced to get glasses), I went to the Hero Commission to tell them everything I knew about the hospital raid.
Then, I had to go to UA to talk to my students. While I was in a coma, they lost a classmate and another has gone missing. They're grieving, and I felt the weight as soon as I entered the dorms. It was hard having to talk to them. There were plenty of tears. I've been trying my best to be there for them, but that is not my strong suit. They are slowly getting better. However, they are far from being where they were. I don't know if they will ever return to the way they were.
My free time has been spent either resting, dealing with the kids, or offering information about Izuku when asked.
Today is different. There has been an update on the Izuku case, and Hizashi and I have been called in to join the discussion. I hope they found him, but I don't know if that's logical. If Izuku is involved, everything is harder.
Hizashi and I enter the HC building, and the lobby doesn't have many people besides for the lady at the front desk.
Hizashi takes the lead and approaches the receptionist, "Hey, we're here for a meeting with the HC president." The lady looks up at us, and it takes her a moment to recognize us.
She smiles, "Of course! You'll be going to floor 42. Once you reach the floor, the room you need to go to is directly across from the elevator."
"Thank you," Hizashi tells her as he goes to the elevator with me following. Once we step on, it takes a couple of minutes to reach where we need to be. We step off, and the receptionist was not kidding about the door across from the elevator. One glance each way shows that this is the only door in this hallway. The rest of just entryways.
Hizashi steps forward and puts his hand on the doorknob, but he looks back at me first, "Are you ready?"
"Not like we get a choice," I mumble as I nod for him to open the door.
With a huff and an eyeroll, Hizashi opens the door and enters. I follow behind him to find a a long table with a few people sitting at it. Detective Tsukauchi and Gran Torino would be sitting on the left side at the far end, and Sir Nighteye and, surprisingly, Powerloader would be on the right. There would be general greets as we make our place besides Powerloader.
Gran Torino waves, "You're early."
"Better late than never," Hizashi says as he sits down, "Do you guys know the specifics for why we are here?" Most of them shake their heads except for Powerloader.
"Roughly," Powerloader states. So he has something to do with it.
"Glad to know that we are mostly equal in the dark."
Gran Torino grumbles, "Yeah, cause we have found nothing over here. We have been focusing on finding All for One."
"He is the reason why Izuku is gone in the first place," Tsukauchi says in agreement.
Sir Nighteye adds, "While these two were doing that, I was looking through cases Izuku was involved in in the past. I was thinking that he could be hiding out in something relating to those, but there was nothing."
"Damn," Hizashi mutters. He then speaks up, "So we only have one possible lead maybe?"
"From what I know, possibly," Powerloader informs Hizashi. I wonder what Powerloader knows. As far as I know, Izuku wasn't wearing anything on him that couldn't be tracked unless he added something to his clothes without me knowing.
Before Hizashi can respond, Hawks bursts in the room, "Hello birds and tweets." And this is our number one hero now... I don't know how.
Behind him, Best Jeanist would come in shaking his head, "Sorry about him."
Hawks plops down beside Gran Torino, "You don't have to apologize for me. I am an adult, sir."
"Yet you act so informal." Best Jeanist moves to sit beside Hawks.
Gran Torino gruffs, "You better be acting like this cause you found something."
"Something may be a bit of a stretch, but it's better than nothing," Hawks tells us. I don't know what that means, but hopefully it's something good, "She isn't here yet? Oh wait, she prefers to be directly on time. And that should be..." He pulls his phone out of his pocket and checks, "Now."
As if on que, the door opens, and the HC president enters the room with a notebook at hand. Silence embraces the room as she walks around the table and takes her seat at the very end. She opens her notebook up, sets it up on the table, clicks her pen, and waits a moment.
Then, the HC President speaks, "Good afternoon, everyone. Sorry for the sudden meeting, but there has been an update on the Izuku case that I would like to hear. Hawks, Best Jeanist, you may start."
Unlike before, Hawks's demeanor would change to something serious as he looks at Powerloader, "From what we knew, based on Present Mic's account, Izuku was not wearing his typical gear, including the arm, when he was taken. However, we decided to ask Powerloader about anything he has adjusted that would include trackers. I'll let him explain."
Powerloader would push what seem to be maps to the middle of the table, "On most of the kid's gear, he had some sort of tracker on it. He's a bit finnicky about that kind of stuff, especially after his running away scheme. When it comes to any sort of gear that was constantly connected to a network, like his robots, they would have GPS on all the time. However, when it come to his clothes, they came with this,"
Powerloader pulls out a little chip from his pocket and places it with the maps, "It works pretty much the same way if more resistant to damage. He made it so, if one is destroyed, it records the last location it was at. It wouldn't disappear like other trackers when that happens. I have no clue where the kid shoved these things, but he did keep a monitor in the support lab that tracks all of these. I just know he got obsessive about it and put them everywhere. When I was asked by these two, I looked through all of them. Most of them were on UA campus except one."
Best Jeanist continues, "Hawks and I followed that one to a warehouse, where there was nothing. It was completely empty except for ashes. When asked, Detective Tsukauchi found someone that could look through the ashes quickly to see if there was any human remains. Their quirk allows them to see what the item was previously by touching it. From what they could tell, they were clothing items. No body was found. There was also no damage to the building that would indicate someone trying to escape."
Izuku's paranoia is what gave us a lead. I'm not surprised. I should have guessed he had a tracker somewhere on him. If I had to guess, it was probably in his shoes as he was always adjusting those. However, what is odd is that clothing items. That doesn't make sense.
The president thinks for a moment before asking, "What I am hearing is that Izuku was taken to this warehouse where, at one point, his clothes were removed. They then moved out of that warehouse to someplace else."
"We believe that is what happened, yes," Hawks confirms.
She hums, "So he was not killed there at least. Therefore, he is either on their team, their captive, or he managed to escape somehow and has simply not returned to us."
"So they brought him to a warehouse just to strip him and then ditch it?" Gran Torino asks, "That doesn't make sense. That sounds like too much work."
"They may have considered Izuku that much of a threat, " Sir Nighteye points out, "If he had a secret way to get help on him somehow, they would have wanted it gone. His clothes are the most obvious choice for that."
"But not Izuku by himself?"
"He's only human. He does amazing because of how he uses his tools and environment."
"I suppose you're right there."
Hizashi drums the table lightly, "I hate this thought, but what if they had Izuku there to set him up for something?"
The president furrows her eyebrows, "Set him up?"
"Yeah, like, weaken him before they take him to the actual base. That way, he can't do anything."
"It does follow the him being considered a threat idea. However, the question is if they did that to make him a villain or to keep him captive."
I assert, "Izuku would have killed himself somehow before he would become a villain. If that was the case, he would have already done something by now. He's either captive or free." It's a fact that I hate to admit, but it's something Izuku would do.
"I agree with Eraserhead here. Whether something villainous or some secret message telling us to help him, we would have seen something," Hizashi supports.
"I will trust your judgement there," The HC president says, "However, this has not brought us far in our case."
"May I add something?" Sir Nighteye requests.
"Go on."
Sir Nighteye sighs, "Before the raids, I used my foresight on Izuku." Surprise fills the room, some more obvious than others. He typically doesn't like using his quirk. Given the circumstance, that isn't a time he would use it. Seeming to ignore it, he continues, "I didn't say anything because everything was a success, and the suffering Izuku has gone through at this point was expected. However, then it just stopped."
There is silence until I question it, "Stopped?"
"Yes. Not in a way where that person is going to die. It just stopped." What does that mean? What did Izuku do?
"So something happened that blocked you from seeing his future," Tsukauchi states as he looks down at his notes, "And you've never seen anything like this?"
"No. I did not see it as a big deal at the time, but now? It makes me wonder what happens."
Gran Torino mutters, "That's odd."
"I have no theories as to why either."
The HC president nods, "That is good to know. Hopefully, we will find an answer for that soon. For now, is there anything else anybody wants to say?" We all shake our heads, "Then meeting adjourned. I wish you luck on finding Midoriya."
She doesn't bother to wait as she stands up and leaves.
As soon as the door closes, Hawks huffs a laugh, "Tense as always."
"She is the president," Best Jeanist mentions. He stands up and looks at everyone, "I hope we find him soon. It's already been too long past my comfort zone."
"Same," Hawks says as he stands up, "I miss his loud mouth."
"I think we all do," Gran Torino grumbles.
Best Jeanist faces Hizashi and I, "I know Hawks and I said that there was no sign of escape, but do you two think that Izuku got out? You both know him better than anyone here."
"It would be illogical to assume that he did, but this is also Izuku. He's hard to figure out," I tell him because it's the truth. I want to believe that he has gotten out somehow. I don't know how he would, but I would like to believe he came up with this ridiculous reason and just left like a normal person.
"I am praying to everything I can that he did. He's talented. He probably figured out a way out that we didn't even think of," Hizashi admits with a small smile on his face.
Best Jeanist slowly nods, "Then Hawks and I keep looking for him outside. Is everyone else continuing their previous plans?"
"We will be," Detective Tsukauchi announces.
Sir Nighteye considers, "I don't know. I may looks elsewhere. We'll see."
"Understood. We shall get to it then. Best of luck to everyone," Best Jeanist says as he leaves.
Hawks whines, "We just got here!...he's not listening. Fine. Later everyone!"
Pair by pair, we would head out to continue our search.
Izuku, please be safe out there.
