Fatgum x Reader: Out Of My League
~Fatgum~
I ran through the streets pursuing the villain, Suneater was following close behind. "I'll rush around and cut him off!" He then informs me.
I glance back and nod quickly before returning my intense gaze back to the criminal. He carried bags of cash from a local bank a couple blocks from where we were now.
The man took a sharp left turned into an alleyway and I quickly turned to continue following, weaving left and right, I was slowly starting to lose him. That was until we came to a dead-end, well more like a chain-link fence he could climb on.
Which is exactly what the idiot did, but I put all my energy into speeding up just in time to catch the bastard. Grabbing the back of his clothes I yank him down and onto the ground. Moving quickly I pull both his arms behind his back and press him roughly into the ground so he couldn't get away. "I got him, I speak into the mic attached to my coat,"
Only a few minutes passed before the others showed up with the police. I had the criminal off along with the stolen cash. The officers thanked me, and I soon regrouped with Suneater. "Let's head back," I tell him. With that, another villain was taken down. It was just like any other day.
~Time Skip~
Back at the agency building, I decided to grab an early lunch. With my food in my hands, I stop by the vending machine to grab myself a drink. Upon turning the corner, I saw her. I had lost my train of thought the second my eyes laid on her, I cleared my throat as I stopped beside the vending machine. Her eyes glance up to meet mine, and a soft smile forms at her blush pink-tinted lips. "You're back early," she says, turning towards me fully.
I straighten myself out trying to seem more presentable. "Uh yeah, was an easy catch this morning, how's training?" I ask.
(Y/N) was recently in a pretty bad accident involving a strong villain that left her with a few broken bones. As for right now, I had her training to help build up muscles and let her body heal a little. "Good, I'm feeling a lot better," she answers.
"That's good, I'll be sure to get you back out there by next week or so," I inform her.
She nods with her smile never fading from her beautiful face. After getting her drink from the machine, she steps passed me, "Well, I'll see you later Taishiro," she says softly.
Watching as she left her eyes remained locked with mine a moment longer, "Yeah- see you!" I retort and wave to her. The moment she turns the corner my smile fades and I turn back to the machine. "Yeah see you?" I shake my head in disappointment. "I should've asked her out...but who am I kidding? She's way out of my league," I mumble to myself.
I gently kick the machine feeling frustrated, "She's so beautiful and sweet...I doubt she'd see herself with a guy like me anyway," I mumble softly.
"Who's beautiful?" I hear a familiar voice say. Turning back I find the red-headed teen Kirishima. Hiding my mouth within my jacket to hide some of my blushing, I avert my eyes away from the boy.
"Uh nothing," I mumble, I quickly turn back to the machine and buy my drink.
"Seriously man, you got a crush on someone?" he asks.
Kirishima comes to my side looking up at me, his expression hinted determination. I can't believe I'm doing this. "Yeah, I do. But it doesn't matter," I say as I turn away from him.
The teen follows me down the hall, "Sure it does, come on who wouldn't want to date a guy like you? You're fun to be around," he says trying to cheer me up. Still, I wasn't entirely convinced.
"Has she been giving you signals at all?" he then asks.
"Signals?" I ask.
We both stop in the hallway, "Yeah, showing any kind of interest, like lingering looks, touches? Any nice gestures they do only for you? Pay attention to body language man," he tells me. Damn, he's pretty smart.
"I'll keep that in mind, thanks," I say.
"You're welcome man, and if you're not sure, just shoot your shot!" he says. With that, Kirishima ran off probably heading back to the school for the rest of the day. To be honest I don't know what he was doing here in the first place.
~Time Skip~
Days went on as the same thing happened each day, (Y/N) and I would run into each other, and we'd have a brief conversation. I tried my best to watch her body language like Kirishima said, but I was completely clueless when it came to this sort of thing.
Finally, it came to Friday evening, I was staying late filling out reports for the police. I was in my office sitting at the desk wishing I was somewhere else, thankfully I would have a day off tomorrow. To my surprise there was one other person still here...and it was (Y/N).
She came up to my opened door and knocked on it while looking at me with her signature sweet smile. "Evening," she says as she enters, a box was in her hand, which was held before me, as she offered it. "Brought you some snacks, I'm assuming you'll be here late," she says.
I took the box and took a peek, it was my favorite food, takoyaki. Any nice gestures they do only for you. I look back up at her with wide eyes, a lot of people knew my favorite treat, but she's never done this before. I watch her face begin to turn a light shade of red, her beautiful (e/c) eyes shift away from my awed gaze. "I figured you'd be missing dinner," she says.
"Thank you," I say, setting the box down I flash her a gentle smile.
"Y-you're welcome," she mutters, my eyes then begin to drift down her form, taking in every curve, trying to figure out this whole body language thing. What the hell am I supposed to look for? How can I tell if she's interested?
There was a long silence then, and I was beginning to wonder what I should say next. "Uh- is there something else o-on your mind?" I asked.
"O-Oh! Actually..." she trails off, her eyes shifting away from mine again nervously. She held herself like she was cold or something, her face seemed to turn into a deeper shade of red. "I-I actually wanted to ask, if you wanted to meet for lunch tomorrow?" she then asks.
"Yes!" I said almost immediately, "I-I mean yes, I am," I say trying to sound calm.
"Okay! I'll uh- meet you out front here tomorrow," she informs me.
"Sounds good, see you then," I retort. With that, she giggles softly and nods in response, turning her back to me, she heads to the door but then stops. Turning back to face me, her eyes met mine once more for the last time tonight.
"Goodnight Taishiro," she says, and the way my name rolled off her tongue, it made a chill run down my spine.
"Goodnight," I respond softly, her eyes remained locked on mine for a moment longer as she began to walk away, her head slowly turns to look at what was in front of her. The rest of the night, I enjoyed a good meal and quickly got my work done wishing that tomorrow would come faster.
~The Next Morning~
I was thankful for the day off, I woke up pretty early the next morning and even got myself ready even though I wouldn't have to leave for a few more hours. I was nervous- yet excited. Today might be the day I take Kirishima's advice and shoot my shot- or whatever he said.
As the hours passed by slowly- or so it seemed- I finally made my way out of my apartment and to my agency building to meet with (Y/N). By the time I got there, I could see her outside waiting, and while she was waiting she was helping a child who had fallen behind their parents. Walking up to her, I watched as she covered the child's scraped knee with a bandaid. "All better, run along now!" she says with a smile on her face as she gently pushes the kid to their parents.
When she turns to me, her smile grows bigger, "Hey you," she greets.
"Hey," I retort softly. I was surprised when she grabbed my hand without warning, we began to walk down the sidewalk together. My eyes wouldn't look away from our connected hands, even with it being so small, her hands were warm and soft. I felt so warm that all my fat would melt away in an instant.
When we reached the cafe, we stopped at the entrance. "Wait here for me?" she asks as she looks up. I smile and nod.
"Of course," I mumble.
As her hand slips from mine, I watch as she runs into the shop. Standing there by myself, I look down at my large hand, the same one that held hers for that short time. I couldn't help but smile at the fact she held my hand all the way here. When (Y/N) came back out, she had food and drinks, being a gentleman I took some from her. This allowed her to hold my hand once more as we walked.
"So where are we headed?" I ask.
"To the park, I know a nice spot," she says.
I nod in response and walk with her to the park, as we reached it, there were children playing and people walking their dogs. As (Y/N) led me onto the grass, we sat under a rather large tree giving us a nice amount of shade from the sun. Sitting with her on the ground we both silently eat and drink our food. This feels like a date. I had one hand on the ground keeping me propped up, and when (Y/N) when to rest her hand on the grass our hands' touch.
She looks up at me with a gentle smile before turning away timidly. Shoot your shot man. Turning to look away from her, I let out a long sigh. I mentally prepare myself for both rejection and acceptance. "(Y-Y/N)," I stutter. I glance to the side look at her as her eyes dart up to meet mine.
"Yes?" she asks.
"I- I well- damn," I trail off.
"Are you okay Taishiro?" she asks.
"Y-yes, but you should know that I- I've liked you for a while now, and more than just c-co-workers and I completely understand if you don't feel the same, but do you wanna go out?" I ask as I turn to look at her, my eyes scan over her face watching as the expression remained the same. It was soft as usual, her smile still there, but now her face begins to turn red at my question. And before I knew it, she sat up, just enough so she could get close to my face. Leaning in, her soft lips press against my cheek.
"I thought you'd never ask,"
