UA = United Airlines Except Flying Ships Instead
Prompt: Here's the thing: It was supposed be something really simple of what would happen if the squad was a cabin crew.
Then I thought, "damn, too simple" so I started thinking up ideas, and here we are. Completely different world. It will be explained.
So it's still a cabin crew. Just with a twist in the story.
Sorry if the ending is rushed. This has been mostly done for nearly two months, and I didn't want it to sit around any longer, so here we are!
Basically, I got done with it!

When quirks first appeared, people lost their shit. I mean, what else are they going to do? Be law-abiding citizens while they hide their powers away?
Hell naw! There are going to be people out there who take advantage of any string they can grab onto, and boy did they! War erupted all over the place as quirks were seen as 'demonic.'
A war between the quirked and quirkless. Somehow, despite the quirkless having guns, nuclear bombs, and fucking robots, quirked people still won. Overtime, natural selection favored quirked people while disrespecting the quirkless.
In today's age, quirkless are extremely rare because bad past equals kill the quirkless. Okay, not exactly. Most humans do not go that far. However, quirk discrimination is a bitch. Quirkless can't get jobs or anything 'normal humans' can do as they are considered weak. Some are bullied into suicide. Some of them are just killed because why not? A lot of quirkless are even sent to special places to be protected! It doesn't do its job, but it's there! Overall, the odds are against quirkless.
Against me.
Hello, I am Izuku Midoriya, and I am quirkless! The odds were against me the moment I turned four! It's was the goddamn plot twist of the decade for me!
Trust me when I say that being quirkless is a burden. However, I make it work. I thank above Mom did not send me to one of those looney toon places like what happens to most quirkless. She did consider it. However, she saw what happened to people like me, so she kept me in the world and protected me the best she could. I'm not dead, so she did her job! If she had sent me off, I would not be working one of the top airships in Japan!
I never talked about that, huh? Air travel became huge as well when quirks popped as being on the ground became so dangerous. Everyone wanted away from the action. They didn't want to get hurt by just living, so they took to the airs. Air travel became famous, specifically airships. People can live and travel on airships without a worry in the world. Think of it like a flying hotel. Or a flying island. Crew members became a vital job in society. In fact, it is considered the top job because crew members are expected to take care of the people, protect them, and guide an airship. So many factors are involved. Crew members are trained on every aspect of the ship from dealing with Karens to how to keep a ship from crashing.
Crew members became kind of like heroes for society. Some even become famous for how well they take care of their people! For example, the top airship before the Endeavor ship was the All Might ship, run only by one person yet taking care of millions; Yagi Toshinori. His quirk just made him that powerful. Unfortunately, he worked so hard that he was forced into retirement. That's why most people work with at least one other member. Depending on the size of the ship, there could be as few as four members, like mine, which holds over a thousand people, or upward of a hundred crew members with a million people like the Endeavor ship.
Nowadays, people can live on the ground, but the airship lifestyle just stuck. However, that also means that villains have figured out a way of attacking the ships. That's why being a crew member is such a hard job; they have to protect against that and so much more as previously said.
That's why it is so hard to become one.
So how have I, a quirkless bastard, become on despite being so young as I am 15? Sit down and let me tell you a story about how being arrested can lead to some good consequences! It all started when I was twelve.
---
Age Twelve
Due to being quirkless, I have been a scape goat for many things. If someone is being bullied? I shall be your cute bully! If someone forgot their homeword? I shall be your cute homework destroyer! It's impressive the amount of shit I have been blamed for. Yet, I have never done any of that.
Well, besides punching a few kids out, but you can't blame me there when I was being picked on.
However, never in my lifetime did I thought I would be blamed for fucking robbing a place! That's just beyond petty!
So far, my luck has provided me one good thing; a good detective that, despite my asshole personality, knows that I didn't do anything. Detective Tsukauchi is actually fricking nice to me despite me being quirkless. Give this man a trophy! Despite him saying I have done nothing wrong, it's not getting me out of being locked up because 'quirkless shouldn't be free, it's dangerous.' At this point, I'm fucked.
I'm stuck in a disgusting prison cell forever. Yeah, I have already been thrown in here, and Mom has already been kicked out forever. Assholes. Now, the Detective did say he was going to get me out, but I have no idea how he plans on doing that. That's why I am still in jail instead of prison for the past three days.
Also, this place is boring. I thought there was suppose to be jail fights and stuff! I am the only one here! Well, I guess they have already sent them to prison, so I'm waiting for that. Maybe I can write a book in there, get famous, and get myself out.
Or break out. I'm smart enough for that. It wouldn't be the first time breaking out of something.
"He's in here," I hear from the only door into the cell room. The door opens, and I turn around to see the Detective and a rat-
Holy shit, is that rat Nezu? Nezu is the principal of UA, and UA creates the best crew members in the world. What in the fuck is he doing here?
Nezu approaches the cell and looks at me as I stand up, "Hello, Midoriya! Am I a dog or a bear? Who knows? But what we do know is that I am the principal of UA!"
Just because he is a major figure does not stop my attitude problem, "Pleasant. First off, call me Izuku. Second, why in the fuck have you come here? You have no reason to come out to a police station when the cases can be sent to UA for you. You're wasting your time coming here."
A glint appears in Nezu's eyes, and I don't like it, " You are correct, but I have heard of your circumstance and decided to come. I was wondering if you would do something for me?" Never trust an intelligent rat unless you are in a goddamn cell.
"Sir, I'm in a goddamn cell unless you want me to break out, which is not a problem."
"How so?"
"They forgot to take my watch, and I can trigger the alarms through it. Then, I have shit in my backpack that they forgot to take away because apparently I'm too stupid to use stuff to get out, so I kept it. That's my ticket out."
"Clever. Do you have hacking abilities?"
"Yes."
Nezu seems to consider something before somehow pulling a large stack of papers from his coat, "I would like you to take this test"
"Why should I?"
"I can get you out if you do well enough on it. Look through it yourself if you don't believe me." Nezu hands me the stack, and I take carefully, sit down on the disgusting floor, and look at the title.
Crew Member Provisional License Test - Academic
Wait, is he? He isn't.
"Are you trying to get me to become an intern crew member so that the new power in the rules can be used to get me out of here?"
"Precisely correct, Izuku. You seem to know the laws well."
"Too much free-time. After this, I would have to take the physical test, right? How much time do I have?"
"Correct. Once you open it, one hour."
"What idiot is going to take in a quirkless little kid? Actually, isn't that illegal, or are the quirkless laws more lenient then I remember?"
"They have many loopholes for people like you. As for the internship, do not worry about it. I have a few strings I can pull."
"Not like I have anything else to do with my life. Do you do this with every quirkless brat or just me?"
"Just you. Detective Tsukauchi said you are intelligent, so he wanted me to see you to see if I can get you out."
"Huh, alright then. Give me a pen and shut up."
With that, I took the Academic test. With my intelligent little brain wanting to learn everything, I recognize every single thing on that test. Don't ask why my intelligence is not a quirk but Nezu's is, but whatever.
I pass it back over, and it turned out, I somehow perfected it. I knew I was smart, but damn.
Then, I don't even get a chance to calm down when I am shipped to a small empty airship. Due to Nezu's influence, I don't have to wait three more months to take the physical test. I am allowed to take it that day! The problem is that I will be taking the test alone, and one fuck-up will screw me over for life.
I am in charge of a hundred people by myself. Basically, the whole test is seeing if I can handle the airship life despite never having been on one. Usually, you would be doing this with ten other people to see your teamwork skills, but they can't with me. That's why I will be required to intern after if I pass this.
I watch my people go onto my ship, and these are people meant to give me trouble. Afterwards, I enter and am allowed to look around for ten minutes before taking off.
All I can say is thank fuck this ship is GPS-driven and not person driven. Most ships are, but some are not.
Overall, I think we are going to die tonight, but I need to try for my future self.
Standing in front of the cabin, I turn on my microphone to speak,
"Hello, everybody! I am Izuku Midoriya, and I am your slave for this evening! Get ready to have fun and not die!"
---
As it turns out, they were some needy people.
However, I passed. The only huge criticisms I had was that I need to be more adaptive for the customers (no, I ain't watching your damn kids for an hour) and to not become a stripper (how is this not being adaptive for the customers?).
Actually, I'm surprised I did not get in trouble for knocking a couple of people out for fighting. I guess knocking people out is the way to go!
Other than that, I did great, and I want to cry! With my luck, I only have today to relax with my crying mom. Tomorrow, I have to go on a ship for an internship.
The worst part? Nezu is making me fight for my spot. Those people have to approve of me.
I have to advertise myself like a kid's toy to get them to keep me.
---
Morning
After departing from my crying mom, I stand with my possibly useless backpack with necessities in front of the UA building.
"Ah, there you are, Izuku! Come along! The system should let you in," Nezu exclaims as he magically appears beside me. For once, I am quiet because it is this or prison.
Impressive that I can be quiet.
Even if I want to see a prison fight, the germs aren't worth it. It's almost unbelievable that I either have to get this job or else I'll go to prison.
I'm twelve, by the way.
We arrive in front of a fancy door, and Nezu faces me, "I already have your team in there. Let me speak to them first, then you will make you plea. I wish you luck, Izuku." With that, he enters and I wait, fidgeting. I ignore the kids watching a little brat like me in curiosity.
You got this, Izuku-
Wait, why don't I just run? I can just become a vigilante or-
The door cracks open for me to come in. I guess it's now or never.
I enter the way too-large-of-an-office-for-a-rat to see the members, and swallow the ice. I recognize them.
One of the top ship crew-members in the country sit before me.
Aizawa Shouta - Quirk: Eraser - Aizawa can remove the quirk of anybody he looks at. He is known at the strictest teacher at UA as well, so he might be my biggest critic. Great!
Yamada Hizashi - Quirk: Voice - Yamada can adjust his voice however the fuck he wants. Loud. Soft. Bass. Treble. He even has his own radio on the ship! Also a UA teacher.
Kayama Nemuri - Quirk: Somnambulist - Kayama can put people to sleep. I need that because I have not slept in a while. Also also a UA teacher.
Iida Tensei - Quirk: Engine - Iida has engines protruding from his shoulders that let him go zoom zoom. For once, not a UA teacher.
Yes, I know too much about people.
They are all part of the Show ship, known for their entertainment yet being able to protect. The four of them take care of thousands of people at a time, and they rarely have problems.
Nezu is trying to get me with one of the top ships in Japan. Why?
As I approach, I realize something: I look like shit. These people are dressed in nice tuxedos (or a revealing dress in curtesy of Kayama) (ignore the ugly scarf around Aizawa's neck), and I look like trash because Mom and I can't afford at lot because quirkless don't get benefits for anything.
If anything, they lose money for useless protection policies and shit. That is especially true with me. Most of the shit we have is stuff I have repaired like the TV and fridge and even clothes. It's impressive what you can find in a dump, after all.
I don't even get to introduce myself when Aizawa stops me sternly, "No. I'm not letting a kid become a crew member."
Yamada glares at him, "Hear him out before you decline him. However, I am curious as well as to why the hell a kid is being recommended to us."
"I don't care. We would be taking care of him rather than him helping us. I don't even let my students join me, let alone some brat I don't know."
Iida decides to insert his opinion, "I have to agree with Sho on this, Zashi. I wouldn't like it if my brother that looks about his age became a crew member."
Yamada sighs, "I'm aware, but Nezu wouldn't recommend him to us for no reason."
"He is probably recommending him to us because of his abilities, but I don't care. I'm not having a child, especially one younger than my students that have enough of an attitude problem, joining the ship, " Aizawa says with a little snap. This is just starting to get frustrating.
Kayama seems to hear my thoughts because she interferes before anyone else says anything, "Let him speak for himself."
"It's final-" Aizawa can suck it because I need to speak up before I get a chance.
I interfere, reaching for my ever-dwindling confidence, " I would appreciate being heard out before being denied based on my age. I'm here for a reason that my skills allowed me to do this, not provide this opportunity. Nezu has more nerve than to pick up a random kid and ask them to become a crew member without a legitimate reason."
That got them to shut up real quick. Aizawa practically glares at me, but that's nothing compared to what I get out in the real world!
I finally take my stage front and center with an attempt at a smile, "Let's start over, shall we? Hi, I'm Midoriya Izuku, but call me Izuku, and I need an internship to save my life to put it bluntly. Four days ago, I was falsely accused of robbing a place and got arrested. I was proven innocent within the first hour, but due to who I am, I was being sent to prison anyway. After being 'freed,' I would be sent to a ward where I would be protected. Detective Tsukauchi can vouch for my innocence as he was the one who got me to my position before you. I stayed in jail for three days until Nezu came and offered the opportunity to become a crew mate, and I said yes. I have already passed the academic and physical tests. I just need an internship. If I don't get this, I am basically screwed."
"What will stop you from slacking off on the job?" Aizawa asks with that blunt voice of his.
"The threat of prison. I'm not someone that slacks, Aizawa. If that was the case, I would have been dead a long time ago." He raises an eyebrow , seeming shocked I know his name. He is the one people forget because he is described as an ass so understandable.
Yamada seems interested, though, "What can you do? Entertainment? Ship repairs? Customer service?"
"All three apparently plus more since that physical exam had me deal with a ship by myself."
"Ooo, how many people?!"
"It was a hundred."
"Damn. I couldn't do all that with that many without one of my partners here!"
"I'm flexible and adaptable. Where ever you want to shove me, I'll go. I will complain, but I will get it done however long it is. I will be awake whenever you need me and require little self-maintence. Why don't you take me for a test run? If you decide you don't like me, you can throw me off with only partially harsh feelings."
Iida watches me with concern as a 12 year old is asking for a goddamn job, "Why would us declining send you back to prison? What did you do to deserve it?"
"Being alive!"
"That doesn't really answer my question."
"You might learn why it is eventually."
Everyone seems quiet, considering whether or not they should let me in.
Well, besides one.
Purely on gut reaction, I use the bookbag on my back to swing it at the blur in front of me. I make sure my target stumbles before I throw the bag aside and attempt to punch them out. My punching arm is grabbed as I spun around and am forced to the ground on my stomach with the full weight of whoever the fuck that is on my back. I hear voices, but I completely disregard them because I need to get away. Fuck this, I need to run for my safety. I'm not willing to get bullied again.
Fight fight fight!
"DOG, ACTIVATE!" I holler towards my backpack. A robotic bark is heard along with a groan as the weight is knocked off. I scramble to get up as I find my bookbag nearby with a hole in it, probably where DOG ripped through. I snatch it up and run. I look back to hyper-focus on the small robotic dog on top the figure, "DOG, LET'S GO!"
Suddenly, I feel somebody grab my arm and pull me into a hug? I start to struggle, but whoever it is snaps me out of my fight phase.
"Shhh, it's okay, sweetie. You're safe. We're sorry, that should not have happened," Kayama tells me softly. I stop. I look around to see Aizawa on the floor with Yamada fuming and Iida staying back.
"WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING ATTACKING IZUKU, SHOUTA?! I GET YOU WANTED TO TEST HIM, BUT YOU COULD HAVE DONE IT ANY OTHER DAY WITHOUT ATTACKING THE KID!" Thankfully, I am used to bombs near my ears so Yamada's voice ain't that bad.
Aizawa grumbles, "I wanted him at his weakest moment. I ain't taking a brat who can't defend himself, which he did."
It takes a moment for it all to click for me, "Oh, so that's what happened? Man, I didn't even know it was you! I just attacked and moved! I would say sorry for possibly hurting you, but you attacked me so your problem." Yes, I am going to be petty.
Aizawa sighs and walks over to me, who is still in Kayama's grip, "You have to prove you are useful to us. You must stay around one of us whenever you are working, and you can not act without permission unless necessary. Do you understand, problem child?"
"Got it."
"Don't make me regret this. Zashi, you're in charge of him." Aizawa leaves the room.
"Wait, does that mean I'm in or do I need everyone's approval?" I ask without hesitation.
"Iida, what do you think? You're the only one that has not approved." Yamada asks Iida.
Iida takes a moment to consider, "If Sho approves, I approve. Good luck, kid." Iida follows soon after, leaving Kayama and Yamada.
"YES, WE GOT THE TINY LISTENER ON OUR SIDE!"
Kayama cheers, "We got the cutie on our side!" WAIT, WHAT?!
"HOLD UP, TINY?! CUTIE?! I AM NOT THAT SMALL OR CUTE!"
"Compared to us, you are. You just look so innocent!" Yamada is about to lose his head, "Anyway, we should get going! We have a couple hours to prepare for the next flight, and you need to be cleaned up! Let's go!"
I am literally snatched up and taken to a dress room where a more form-fitting white button-up top and black slacks are thrown on me. After Kayama and Yamada decide that my hair is 'too cute' to be messed up, I am shown everywhere, which is overwhelming but I can adapt. Overall, they are fricking nice.
But then, I am passed onto Aizawa.
Aizawa is a nightmare, and I am very aware he is testing me, but still!
Why?!
He makes sure I am with him 24/7 so I don't start shit, not that I planned on it anyway. Aizawa focus is on the ship and protection, so I don't have to worry about other people at least. Whenever there is a break, he forces me to spare with him. Aizawa also doesn't know what sleep is, so as time goes on, he gets more grumpy.
Aizawa put me through the goddamn wringer for a week, and I still don't think I proved myself.
On the last day before I am supposed going to be shipped to jail, that's when shit breaks.
Aizawa and I are in the main cabin, and we're watching the numbers when I notice something off. It's for the radar that watches the surroundings.
I point to something (honestly, I could try to explain, but it's complicated), "There's something wrong there, sir."
Aizawa looks at where I'm point, "It's fine, kid. Numbers like that happen sometimes."
"Sometimes? Has it always been like this? Sir, it makes sense for the numbers to fluctuate a little. However, it should never jump that much."
"Number range?"
"Hundreds at least." Aizawa looks at me before quickly pulling up the cameras.
On the west side of the ship, there is a another ship, and it looks ready to attack.
"Shit," Aizawa curses as he turns on the intercom, "Excuse me, everyone, there is an emergency. Please calmly return to your cabins until the emergency is over."
Our earphones buzz, and Yamda is the first to talk, "What is going on?"
"There is a villain ship on the west side. Izuku, come on." Aizawa demands as we run out.
You can hear a chorus of curses.
Iida asks, "Did you recognize the ship?"
"No."
I take a moment before an idea comes to mind, "It looks similar to the new villain group I heard about. Relatively small last time I heard with 4-5 members, but it could have grown since then. They are typically known for attacking weaker ships, though, so it's odd they are attacking us. They likely gained a powerful member. I don't know much about the members themselves besides that the leader known for using the excess metal on the ship to attack. All the others have minor quirks." Don't ask how I know this. I just do.
"That's something."
We arrive at the top deck to see Yamada screaming metal debris away while Iida and Kayama monitor the ship.
"Izuku was right about the ship. Thankfully, everyone went to their cabins without a problem," Kayama informs us.
Aizawa nods, "Tensei, Nemuri, and I will fly over to the ship and take down the members. Hizashi will prevent debris, and Izuku will be there for emergency. Got it?"
We all nod in agreement, and the plan goes into action. With jet packs, the three go to the other side and fight. For a while, Yamada and I are just sitting ducks.
After a moment of thinking, I realize that I have no weapons of me beside DOG's prototype that I haven't even tried. I decide that I trust my machine enough not to fuck up. It might not be perfect, but it will be enough. I mumble a command to dog, and it shoots itself at the bracelets around my wrist, becoming grappling hooks. That's better than nothing. I thank above that I at least have gloves on. Otherwise, burns would be a bitch.
It's a few minutes before shit gets worst.
Suddenly, the metal attacks are shooting at us again, and we don't have signal to our teammates across the street.
In the middle of one attack, I notice something off, "Yamada, watch out-!"
I don't even get a chance to finish when a huge gust of wind suddenly blasts us over the other side of the deck. I manage to grab the railings, but when I look towards the direction Yamada should be in, he isn't there.
FUCK FUCK FUCK!
I waste a second to find he isn't on the deck and let go of the railing.
I swallow my fear and shoot one of my grapples back to the railing and start diving down. As soon as I see Yamada, I shoot.
By a stroke of luck, it grips his shirt. I flinch as the weight fucks up my arm.
"Can you hear me?" I ask, hoping to God he can.
"Yeah! Please tell me you have a plan to get us out of this!"
I take a sigh of relief, "I'm going to shoot you up, and I need you to aim you quirk at him for a distraction. As soon as you do that, go back to the other side to protect the ship, I'll take it from there."
"Got it! Be careful!"
Through gritted teeth, I reel Yamada quickly and throw him upwards back on the deck. The scream from him rumbles the ship, but I take it as a sign to bring myself up.
Using the momentum to throw myself back over the safety guards, I take note of Yamada running back to the offer side to defend and what looks to be a big ass bird on the ground starting to recover.
Yeah, no thank you.
I detach the grapple from the railing and shoot it at Big Bird, managing to snatch an arm. With a psychotic grin. I use him as a center point to bring me to, causing me to crash him back into the ground. I quickly knock him out before unattaching the hook.
"I got him down."
"Thank fuck you did because I couldn't!" Hizashi exclaims.
"Where was your jet pack? Aren't you supposed to have it on you at all times?"
Instantly, I hear a nervous tone, "I may or may not have forgotten it because it was refueling, and I didn't want to wait?"
"You're a dumbass."
"I'm used to hearing that! Thanks for saving me! I didn't know DOG can do that!"
"Dog can do a lot of things. Isn't it too early to be celebrating?"
"The villain ship is sinking, and they are coming back with tied of villains. I think we're good, Izuku."
"Then come tie this guy up because I have no way of doing it."
Yamada leaves his position, pulls out an emergency pair of handcuffs from his belt (don't ask why he has that yet not his jetpack), and handcuffs the guy, allowing me to get off.
The moment I stand up, he tackles me into a hug, "Thank you!"
I huff, "Yeah, yeah, let me go before you fuck my arm up more!"
Yamada immediately pulls back and sees my weird arm, "Oh shit, sorry, kiddo."
"Eh, it's fine. I just need to pop it back into the socket. Wouldn't be the first time!"
"Now I'm worried about your past."
"We'll get the tragic backstory later."
Eventually, Aizawa, Iida, and Kayama arrive back with the hoes, and we shove them in the emergency jail cabin. Since we have criminals, we have to land as soon as possible to drop them off, giving us a chance to discuss what happened. During the waiting time, I get my shoulder back in place from Aizawa of all people, but he doesn't say anything else.
When we land, we head to the meeting room and sit down to chat. Through this, we write a detailed report of what happened and turn it into the police.
As we are about to leave, Aizawa stops us, "Izuku?"
I turn around, tilting my head aside, "Yes?"
"You have proven yourself. You still need some work, but you'll catch up in no time. You have plenty of potential, kid."
I freeze. I don't know what to say. I-
"Yeah! I would be dead meat without you! I say you should become a new member!" Yamada quickly says, ignoring his husband's (yeah, apparently their married) glare due to the earlier incident.
"You fill a spot that we didn't know needed to be filled, " Kayama purrs.
"I support you kid," Iida confirms.
Aizawa offers a tiny smile, "Welcome to the team, kid."
I take a moment for my brain to catch up, "Really?!" When I receive nods, I nearly cry! I'm not going to prison! "Thank you, thank you, thank you!"
"Be ready to work yourself to death."
And that's how I became a crew member for the Show Ship! I'm super close to all of them now even if Aizawa (now Shouta) wants to kill me constantly! They even know I'm quirkless and support it!
Sometimes, your life just has to fuck up badly enough to get you into a better place!
