I am working on a case late at night when Nemuri and Hizashi suddenly burst into my room in a panic. I look up to see Hizashi trembling in tears while Nemuri tries to comfort him.

"T-turn on the TV, I-I-Izuku! News!" Hizashi frantically says. Quietly, I grab the remote and turn it on.

The TV echoes something I never wanted to hear,

"Pro-hero Eraserhead found dead at-"

The news-person keeps going on, but I can't hear it.

It's just buzzing to me. That can't be real. My heart is pounding-

Focus, Izuku.

I set a blank face as I recognize the area shown on TV. I stand up as I request CAT to go into armor mode even with the lack of an arm.

"Izuku, what are you doing?" Nemuri whispers as she pulls Hizashi into a hug.

I look up at her, "Someone has to go to the scene."

"No no no, sweetheart, it's okay- Izuku!"

I don't listen as I leave the room to go to the area.

Someone needs to serve justice.

Third POV

Aizawa Shouta died from a villain using a paralysis quirk and was stabbed multiple times in the chest with a large kitchen knife. He was trapped while he was fighting another group of villains.

The villains who killed Aizawa Shouta managed to get away from the main scene and remained on the run for thirty minutes. Nobody was willing to face the group that killed the legendary underground hero. Midoriya Izuku found the villains multiple blocks away by hacking through multiple cameras and caught them all before they had a chance to fight back. The villains were brought in with multiple broken bones and burns and had to be brought to the hospital to prevent their death.

Midoriya Izuku became in charge of the case. He found enough proof through connections to arrest them for life in prison within hours of the arrest.

Third POV Hizashi - One Week Later

Shouta's funeral is held a week after his death. As Nemuri and Hizashi were set in charge of the funeral, they keep it small as they know the man wouldn't want anything big.

The whole week was rough. It was filled with tears and most people struggle to move on, especially Hizashi.

Nemuri and Hizashi were given time off to recover by Nezu. The two have stuck close since the incident. Nezu also gave a break to class 1-A as their homeroom teacher is now gone. Last Hizashi heard, Izuku was getting his teaching degree so he can take over.

Speaking of Izuku...Hizashi can't help but be frustrated with him.

Izuku is the only person who is acting as nothing happened. He still does his usual pranks and work, and it seems like Izuku just forgot Shouta existed! Those two were so close! How can he ignore the problem?! Hizashi has never told Izuku his opinion on it, but he makes it clear by how he is acting.

It hasn't crossed his mind why else Izuku would be doing this.

Hizashi sighs as he stands in front of the funeral home with Nemuri. He already broke down once this morning, and he is expecting many more today.

Hizashi makes sure everything is set up with Nemuri. Before opening, Hizashi sees Shouta in the coffin, and he can't help but talk to him.

Eventually, people start arriving and offering their condolences to them. They only invited the UA staff, so it doesn't take long for everyone to arrive.

The only shocking thing was that when Izuku arrived, he bowed to both of them before entering. Hizashi has no idea what to make of that because he never bows.

Throughout the service, Hizashi can not tell you what happened because he keeps crying. By the end, he is tired. Quietly, everyone moves to the dining room to eat.

Nothing tastes good. Hizashi eats a little before standing up and going to the room that holds Shouta. As he goes to the room, he walks past Izuku coming from it.

Hizashi can't help himself when he calls out, "What were you doing, Izuku?" He doesn't bother to look behind him when he hears Izuku stop.

"Just doing what you normally do with a corpse in a coffin," Izuku responds without his usual tone, but the words are there.

"How can you act like this?"

"Hmm?"

"How can you act so nonchalant?! You keep going on like nothing is the matter and there is! You just lost your best friend, your brother, and your father-figure in one go! Do you bother to think about him anymore?!" Hizashi didn't realize what he is doing. The frustration was building up over the week just exploded.

Izuku remains quiet.

Hizashi turns around to see Izuku trembling with his hair covering his facial expression.

For the first time, Izuku reigns his anger and walks away.

For the rest of the service, Izuku stays in the back, watching with a blank stare.

Hizashi doesn't know what he was aiming for with that encounter. He wasn't thinking.

Two Weeks Since Shouta's Death

Last week, Hizashi returned to work when he realized that sitting around wasn't doing anything for him. He is slowly getting better. He stills cries every day and relies on Nemuri heavily, but at least he is moving.

Izuku, meanwhile, Hizashi could not tell you anything about him. Since the encounter, Izuku still seems to act the same except now he is the homeroom teacher of class 1-A. Hizashi hates to admit it, but after a couple of days, he realized why Izuku was acting the way he does.

It provided a state of normality that nobody else was giving, and Hizashi can't help but appreciate it. He feels guilty about assuming that Izuku didn't care. He's just taking care of the ones still alive in his own way.

That doesn't mean the two are on speaking terms. Hizashi is trying to give Izuku space after everything so he has a chance to calm down. Nemuri hasn't left his side for too long, so she hasn't checked on him either.

That soon turns into one of his biggest regrets.

Hizashi and Nemuri are chilling on the couch watching TV when Izuku suddenly bursts in, goes to his dorm, and slams the door to the point of damaging it. Both of them sit up when they see Recovery Girl and Yagi following soon after.

"What's going on?" Hizashi asks.

Recovery Girl walks over to them with a stern expression, "Izuku needs serious help." His heart starts pounding with worry.

"What do you mean?" Hizashi feels Nemuri at his side in an attempt to keep him calm. Recovery Girl walks over to sit down.

"Yamada, have you been paying attention to Izuku at all?"

"N-no...I've been trying to give him space." The guilt climbs into his chest again.

"Do you remember when Aizawa was taken?"

"Who couldn't?"

"Do you remember what was written in case something happened to Aizawa?" Hizashi has to think harder, but it clicks. WHY DIDN'T HE REMEMBER THIS?!

"I have custody of Izuku?"

"Major custody. You also were the closest to Shouta with Izuku. Yamada, Izuku is your responsibility now."

"...fuck...why are you telling me this now?"

"We thought you knew. We didn't even learn about the problems until today. I don't know what happened, but you need to repair your relationship with Izuku." Hizashi can't help but be frustrated. He wants answers so he can know what needs to be focused on.

"I know, but tell me what is going on?!" He feels Nemuri grip his arm, causing him to settle down slightly.

Recovery Girl sighs,

"The first problem is that the kid isn't sleeping. Izuku still relied on Aizawa at the time for that. The way he is getting it now is he asks Ectoplasm to spar with him to the point of injuring himself. He would come to me, I heal him, and he would knock out for a few minutes. Then he would leave for work.

I hate to admit it, but you need to remember that Izuku relied heavily on Aizawa for a lot of things mentally and emotionally. With how his mental health is, I would not have separated them for a long period of time for a while, yet now he has to suddenly go without him.

Then, he is overworking himself. The cases he is doing are doubled, and he took over Aizawa's patrol until the Hero Commission can find a replacement. On top of that, he takes care of class 1-A.

Finally...Izuku is drinking."

Hizashi was already losing his skin-color from hearing everything before, but the last thing makes him white as a ghost.

"H-how did you learn?" Hizashi stutters out.

Yagi raises his hand, "I went to discuss with him on one of his cases this morning. I was throwing something away when I found the bottle in the trashcan. I reported it straight to Nezu."

"Wait, Izuku isn't going to be expelled for this, right?!"

Recovery Girl shakes her head, "Izuku would need to do a lot more for that to happen. Due to his mental stability, Nezu removed him from all work until he has proven to be okay to work again just now."

Hizashi nods. He needs to think for Izuku, "Does his mom know?"

"Yes, and she was there as well. Izuku exploded on her when she tried to calm him down."

"I screwed up..."

"And you need to fix it." Hizashi sighs at Recovery Girl's comment as he stands up.

"I will. Izuku deserves that, and Shouta would want us to get along."

Hizashi goes to Izuku's door and knocks.

An airy scream immediately emits through the door, "FUCK OFF! I AM FUCKING DONE WITH THIS SHIT!"

Hizashi's heart shatters when he hears that. Worry quickly takes over.

"Izuku, it's Hizashi. We need to talk." Hizashi doesn't receive a response. He checks the doorknob to see it is still unlocked, "I'm coming in, kid."

Hizashi opens the door, and he can immediately feel a dreary aura coming from the room. It's still clean, but there are stacked papers everywhere to the point that even if it is organized, it would give Izuku anxiety. The lack of lighting doesn't help it.

"Izuku, where are you?" Hizashi says out loud but still doesn't receive a response. After checking the office and kitchen, he notices the door to Izuku's room open.

When Hizashi enters, his eyes dart to the corner of the room where Izuku is curled up struggling to breathe. Hizashi carefully approaches him before behind down, "Izu, it's Hizashi. Can you hear me?"

Izuku curls in further, tugging at his hair harshly while mumbling incoherently. Thankfully, his robotic hand is off, so he isn't ripping his hair out yet.

Hizashi takes a deep breath in an attempt to calm down. He did this to Izuku. He needs to help now.

Hizashi crawls beside Izuku before pulling the boy in his lap and pressing his head against the heart. He rocks Izuku gently while running his hand through his hair, "Shh, I'm here. I may not have been there before, but I am now, Izuku. We'll get through this together. Come on, breathe with me." Hizashi forces himself to breathe slowly.

Now that Hizashi is closer, he can hear some of the things Izuku is saying.

It makes him sick.

Useless.

Idiot.

Drink.

Die.

It sets reality in for Hizashi.

Trying to ignore Izuku's thoughts, he starts describing the room around him to fill the air with something.

Slowly, Izuku comes back.

After what seems like forever, Izuku sits up, looks at Zashi with a confused look, and asks, "Zashi? I thought you were done with me?"

That shatters Hizashi's heart. It doesn't help that he can smell the alcohol off of Izuku. Izuku didn't seem drunk, so that's something.

Hizashi instinctively pulls Izuku into a hug as he chokes, "N-no. Kid, I f-fucked up. I didn't realize you were acting that way for others. I am so sorry you've been alone. I'm here now. You just need to let me in."

For a moment, Hizashi doesn't get a response. It takes a moment, but Izuku starts gasping.

"Izuku you-" Hizashi was about to tell Izuku to breathe, but he's not having an attack, "Izuku, you can cry. You can talk. I want you to. However, you don't have to if you don't want to."

It's was enough to break Izuku as he starts crying. Softly, he asks "C-c-can I h-hug you back?"

Hizashi gives a smile that Izuku can't see, "Sure, Izu." As soon as he says that, Izuku wraps his arm around him tightly and leans all his weight against him. Hizashi wants to join him, but he has done plenty. It's Izuku's turn.

They are getting somewhere.

"I-I am sorry," Izuku suddenly interrupts.

Hizashi sighs, "You've done nothing wrong, kid. I was being selfish and emotional and that lead to me attacking you. I should be the one saying sorry."

"W-whatever, asshat." At least his personality is somewhat coming back.

"I am serious, Izuku."

"I know...I just don't want to deal with it..."

"Do you want to sleep?"

"Yeah, but that doesn't exist anymore." Izuku starts to pull back, but Hizashi forces him to stay. He stands up with Izuku, carries Izuku to bed, and lays him down. He removes his shoes before joining beside.

"If you need a cuddle buddy, I am here for that."

"Gay." Of course, Izuku would say that.

"Once again, I am serious. Do you need anything before sleep?"

"No."

Hizashi pulls Izuku to his chest despite Izuku's ignorance, "Night, Izu."

"Night, Zashi..."

Hizashi hums softly while stroking Izuku's hair.

Eventually, both of them pass out.
