"Hey, Mom! Let's go to this store! There are lovely dresses in here!" I tell my mom as I practically lead her into the store with CAT stalking me.

Currently, we are in the mall because my mom has been stressed AF, and I figured a good old shopping trip would snap her out of it! Thankfully, it's a slow day so I am only getting the usual glares!

"Izuku, I'm coming! You don't need to drag me!" Mom exclaims with a giggle. Oh, I didn't realize I was doing that. I let go of her and spin around.

"Sorry, Mom! You know how I get!"

"Of course, sweetie! I assume you want to fashion show me again?"

"Uh-huh!" If you have never gotten to dress your mom before, you are missing out.

"Alright, but please keep me out of what you usually wear. I'm rather old for it."

"Nobody is ever too old for booty shorts! But fine, for your sake!"

I zoomy off to go look for some clothes when a loud boom shakes the entire building.

On dumbass hero instincts, I run out of the store to see a crowd of villains starting to threaten civilians. Multiple bombs are going around trapping civilians.

FUCK, WHY ME?! I JUST WANT TO SPEND THE DAY WITH MY MOM! AND WHERE ARE THE HEROES?!

"CAT, I need you to call for help as well as send an announcement throughout the entire mall to leave the premises! Oh, and get Patchy here!" I turn to face Mom as CAT does everything immediately, "Mom, I need you to get out of here! CAT, armor except right arm! Leftover scout, start rescue "

Mom nods frantically, "Be careful, sweetie!" And runs. CAT meows and attaches to my body.

With that, I roll out and land in front of the villains. What is their aim? There are about twenty villains at least with multiple civilians being held captive.

I pass my signature smile, albeit slightly annoyed, "Stop now unless you wanna lose yada yadda, you should know how this goes by now."

All the villains turn toward me, see me, and laugh. One of them screams, "OH MY GOSH, IT'S THE QUIRKLESS BOY! THIS IS THE FUNNIEST SHOW OF MY LIFE!" I can hear another one trying to tell them to be careful, but he is ignored.

What I assume to be the leader of the group steps forward, "You really think you can stop the Black Empoleons?!" Isn't that the name of a biker gang in Pokemon somewhere? Oh boy. WHAT IS UP THE VILLAIN GROUPS NAMING THEMSELVES AFTER VIDEO GAMES?!

"Uh, I know I can, " I sass. My main goal is to distract so that civilians can get out. They are new, so I don't know what they're quirks are or anything like that except for a couple of mutant ones. This is dumb, but it needs to be done.

I zoom over to the leader, and before he has a chance to react, I punch him square in the nose to knock him out.

A loud curse can be heard, but that doesn't stop them, "REMEMBER THE PLAN! GO GO GO!"

They split into two groups: one group is in charge of facing me, while the other is in charge of raiding the stores presumably.

FUCK!

I shoot a grapple at one of the men. It grabs the back of their shirt, I swing it at the men at to attack me like pins.

I barely block a sword about to slash my head in half, and I kick them in the balls hard the head.

I start zooming around, trying to keep the men together, but it's taking its toll on me when a large bang followed with a bullet in the shoulder. That shoulder is already missing an arm, so not the biggest deal in the world. THANK GOD GOD GAVE US ADRENALINE!

However, I'm aware that I am being pulled in too many directions!

When I hear movement of foundation, I see heroes going in trying to save civilians. I recognize a couple of them that would be useful in dealing with the pack with me.

I call, "Hey, Sonic Boom and Knife, I need you two over here to fight!" They look at me, but the moment they recognize me, they ignore me, "COME ON! IF WE DON'T TAKE CARE OF THESE GUYS FIRST, THERE WILL BE MORE VICTIMS TO DEAL WITH!"

That seems to snap Knife out of his stupor, thank fucking god. However, Sonic Boom continues to ignore me. Knife's quirk allows him to summon knives and do anything with knives, so he starts shooting them off the villains to distract. That's a huge help. However, we are still overwhelmed when more villains arrive.

Fucking back up.

"CAW CAW, PATCHY IS HERE FOR COMMANDS!" Patchy announces way too loudly, but it's me.

"PATCH, I NEED YOU TO FIGHT!"

"AYE, ME MATEY!" Wrong time, but oh well!

Of course, with my luck, I accidentally get sliced on the cheek by one of Knife's knives and hit a few times, but it could be worst.

Suddenly, one of the villains scream, "LOOK WHO I FOUND!" Instantly, I look up, thinking that it is a hero caught, but it's so much worst.

I am frozen as I am locked onto looking at Mom's terrified face with a gun to her head

I NEED TO MOVE!

I start rolling-

BANG!

A faint buzz fills my ears as I watch the bullet enter Mom's head from one side and leaves the other, splashing her brain and blood all over the place.

The villain lets go of her neck, causing her to drop to the ground like a doll.

Suddenly, I am shoved back

"STAY BACK!" Oh, it's Hizashi. I look up to see him in his hero costume, then at the distance to see all the villains knocked down.

I turn to face the villain and shoot my grapple at him to keep from moving. I roll forward, knee him in the stomach, and punch him in the face, causing his body to drop next to Mom's.

I bend down next to her to check her pulse.

There's...nothing...

No...why? Why?

WHY?!

I stand up, facing away from her body as I wrap up the villains and start helping with the rescue efforts.

I am not having her sacrifice going to waste.

---

Hizashi's POV

There is a huge attack on the mall, so I was called in to help. It's overall a mess. When I arrive, there is an abundance of people waiting outside. Multiple parts of the structure were brought down due to bombs. Many people are trapped in said structures. There are still multiple villains running around.

However, that's not what stands out.

What stands out is that I see Izuku perfectly still, watching something that I can't see. I know the kid well enough, and he isn't someone to freeze in battle. When I see a villain about to take that moment of weakness, I run over, shove Izuku behind me, and use my quirk to paralyze them. That seems to snap him out of it because he moves again, though I don't know where. I trust him to fight for himself.

My attack took most of them, and from I hear, Izuku had taken out some as well as he was the only hero there at the start. The kid has terrible luck.

I focus on leading the rescue efforts as Izuku ties them up. Then, he removes CAT to become, well, CAT to help in the effort. I didn't really have time to notice if anything is wrong.

I didn't pay attention until I saw the body bag around the end of the rescue. That's when Izuku steps away and approaches the people with it, and leads the way somewhere else. However, he doesn't have his usual smile, which is expected. He did have a smile, but it's a fake one. But he did have dark air around him.

As I am pretty much done, I follow after him. When I arrive, I go pale.

I see Inko dead on the ground, and Izuku is watching her corpse as if he is expecting it to wake up. Yet, it remains still.

The people talk to Izuku, and he's trying to keep up his usual persona. Most can't see it, but I can. He's crumbling.

As a radio host and a pro-hero, I can relate. However, Izuku doesn't deserve this. He's too young, and his mental health is...yeah. I am not going to go there.

As much as I want to pick him up, carry him to UA, and hide him away, I know for a fact Izuku wouldn't be happy. It wouldn't solve anything. That doesn't mean I can't do anything.

I walk away to call Shouta, and he's quick to answer, "What? I'm in the middle of class."

"Sho, I need you here, " I tell him as I lean against the wall.

"Can't you get another hero there? "

I sigh, " It's for Izuku." That catches his attention.

"What happened? Is he okay?"

"He was there from the start, so he was fighting them on his own for a bit. Physically, he's okay, but mentally...I can't tell you over the phone. I just need you here for him." I can hear shuffling in the background along with demands.

"Are you two still at the mall?"

"Yeah." A click comes from the phone, showing that Shouta hanged up.

I kick off the wall and start to approach Izuku, who hasn't taken his eyes off his mother's body despite it being put in the ambulance.

I scrape my boot on the ground to warn Izuku that I am behind him, causing him to spin around to see me and-

Why did it take me so long to realize that Izuku was injured? Damn it! I really should have been paying more attention to him! I get he's technically his own hero now, but still!

Izuku drops his facade for me to show a blank face, " How's the rescue effort?" Just like Shouta, he prioritizes others over himself. Jeez.

"It's basically done. Kid, I'm more worried about you. Come on." I try to coax him to another ambulance to deal with the fucking bullet wound, but Izuku walks off to check everything.

Damn it.

I follow after Izuku, "Everything is fine. Everyone has been evacuated. Please-"

Izuku suddenly faces me, "Let me check. I just want to see." His tone is harsh, but I can tell he is holding back.

It takes a moment for me to process it before nodding, " I am staying beside you."

I don't get a response as he moves forward.

I watch Izuku check every square of the place to make sure he wasn't missing anybody.

Eventually, due to the instability of the mall, we were kicked out.

Finally, Izuku goes to the ambulance to get his wounds treated. Stubborn kid.

---

Shouta's POV

When I arrive at the mall, multiple cop cars and ambulances surround the place. I get out of the car and approach the blockades. As a couple of cops try to stop me, I show my hero license. One of the cops explains the situation as I search for Izuku and Hizashi.

Forty-two were injured while one was killed. With how large scale it seems to be, it's impressive how small the numbers are when Izuku was the only hero there at the start.

It takes a few minutes to find them only to see Izuku sitting at the end of an ambulance with a wrap around his right shoulder and a bandage across his cheek while talking to the cops. I thought Hizashi said Izuku wasn't physically injured? As I approach, Hizashi notices me from aside Izuku and leaves his side, grabs me, and pulls me out of his sight.

"I thought you said Izuku wasn't injured," I start the conversation with.

Hizashi leans against me for comfort, " I didn't see them before. I was focusing on the rescue operation. That's nothing compared to the actual issue."

"What do you mean?" Hizashi straightens up for a moment, quiet, "Hizashi, just tell me." It takes him a moment to respond.

"Inko is dead, Shouta. I believe she was shot right in front of Izuku too."

Instantly, I try to go to Izuku when Hizashi grabs my arm, "Let me go, Zashi."

"Don't try to get him out of the situation. Izuku is just going to fight you on it. Let him deal with everything." I hate to admit it, but he's right.

"I don't think I can help much here, so I'm going back to UA. I wish you better luck than me." Hizashi looks around, kisses me on the cheek, and starts making his way home.

I join Izuku's side, and he doesn't bother to acknowledge me as he continues to explain the situation. The whole time, he manages to keep a level of professionalism.

After everything, we return to the car. When we get in, I watch his expression drop from that fake smile to tired.

I am about to say something to Izuku, but he cuts me off, "Save it, Sho." I nod. I don't need to push him yet.

"You need anything before we get back?" He shakes his head.

With that, I start the car back.

---

For the past couple of days, Nemuri, Hizashi, and I have been helping Izuku where we can. However, he's been more withdrawn. Yes, he is still moving as he still has to do the funeral, cases, and his mom's dog at her house, but he isn't himself. He's way too good at covering it up for others. The moment it's just us, he drops.

There have been a couple of differences with Izuku as well. Whenever he is out, he's always wearing his prosthetic arm even if he shouldn't be, and I know that bothers him. It doesn't stop him. When he is at the dorms, I have to demand him to take it off. He hasn't argued with me yet, but I can see that he gets pissed off every time I do so.

Izuku overall quiet. However, the worst thing is the flinching. If you haven't been around Izuku for long, you wouldn't notice it. Nemuri and Hizashi didn't until I pointed it out. I first noticed it when Bakugo used his quirk, and it would make sense as it probably sounds like a gun. It does extend to other things as well such as dishes clanging together or anything loud in general.

It's not good.

Inko's funeral is tomorrow, and that's when I am expecting him to break. The three of us will be there to catch him and help him out.

As I am getting ready for bed, I get a text from Nemuri.

Nemuri: Zu is with me. He asked me to knock him out.

Shouta: did you?

Nemuri: Took more than usual but yeah. We both know he will wake up soon, so if you want to come to get him.

I sigh. Izuku probably needs sleep.

I get up and walk to Nemuri's door. I don't bother to knock as I enter. I walk in to see Nemuri on the couch with Izuku's head on her lap, and she is petting him to keep him out. He looks so much calmer. It's unfortunate that his hyperactivity will wake up him.

"How long has he been out?" I ask softly as I can. I should have known better because the kid is already waking up.

Nemuri considers it for a moment, "A few minutes probably. How're you doing, Zu?" Izuku sits up slowly and shrugs. He looks at me with confusion.

"I came to get you. You want more sleep?"

Izuku shakes his head before looking at me, "Is it wrong to want to forget something for a while? Even when I am working, I remember." That makes more sense. The kid would never want to sleep on his own.

"There's nothing wrong with it. You just need to know that you will need to face that reality eventually," I tell him. He slowly nods and stands up.

"Thanks, Nem and Sho." With that, Izuku leaves the room.

Nemuri must have seen my expression changed because she says, "He's strong, Sho. He's probably not used to it."

I sigh, "I know. Hopefully, everything will turn out alright."

I head off to bed for the night.

Nemuri's POV

It's the morning of Inko's funeral, and everyone is dressed and ready to go. Besides Shouta as he's trying to convince Izuku to take his prosthetic off for how long the service is, but Izuku won't budge. Eventually, Shouta gave up, and we went off.

When we arrive, I watch Izuku go around, making sure everything is perfect. At this point, we learned to stay back. Meanwhile, we go to her open casket and say our prays.

It's his mom. You can't blame him. I would do the same thing. Unlike Hizashi and Shouta, I am aware that there is another reason. It's understandable why they wouldn't: Shouta isn't close to his family, so he's never dealt with anything like this. Hizashi, on the other hand, is close to his family, but he somehow hasn't linked it up.

I just haven't faced Izuku about it yet because I don't want to assume things.

Eventually, Izuku walks to Inko's open casket. I see him say something, though I have no idea what. He takes a deep breath before stepping back and going to the front.

When Inko's family starts arriving, Izuku's facade is back up. Shouta is by his side to make sure he doesn't overdo it, but I think we should be more worried about Izuku punching somebody. I see Inko's family watching him as if he is a threat, starting to gossip behind his back. I mean, I can't blame them, but they are asking for it. Nobody shakes his hand or does the normal tradition. The only reason Izuku invited them was so that they could have closure.

Hizashi and I watch over Inko until the service.

The service is what you expect. A couple of people come up to give a biblical speech. Surprisingly, Izuku doesn't go up, though once again, I can't blame him. I see him fidgeting, and the people talking are probably frustrating him.

Overall, the service itself went well. It's the aftermath that has problems.

Most of the family left, and we were getting things together when a woman over Inko's age approaches Izuku.

She glares at Izuku, who offers his signature fake smile, "May I help you?"

"Do you really consider yourself a hero?" The woman has the nerve to ask. Instantly, Shouta is at Izuku's side, but Izuku keeps him back.

"No. I'm just a boy trying to make a difference, Aunt." The aunt looks at him with shock for a moment then recovers.

"I'm glad you're already aware that it's your fault then that I am now missing my little sister." This bitch did not just say that to Izuku! Shouta tries to pull Izuku away from the situation, but he remains. I can feel Hizashi's rage from beside me.

"Technically speaking, that's the villain's fault. I would never shoot my mom in the head."

"But it would have the same effect." I notice Izuku's fingers twitching.

"Shouldn't you have removed your children from the room before having this conversation with me?" As it turns out, Izuku is right. There is three little boys behind her, and I deny they are her own. Hizashi looks in between Izuku and the kids before he decides to lead them out.

"You have no right to tell me that."

"I have a right to say whatever I want, and I will say this: If you want to waste your time with me, please step outside. I would love the honors of incinerating you. However, I am not going to argue in front of Mom." Izuku's voice is firm.

Izuku's aunt watches him a moment. Then, she mutters, "Quirkless brat." And leaves the room.

Suddenly, Izuku whispers, "I need a moment." And leaves quickly.

Shouta looks pissed, " I hate them."

I nod in agreement. We decide to continue. Hizashi comes in a little bit later, but Izuku doesn't come back.

Eventually, Shouta faulters, "I'm going to go-"

I know Shouta is trying to do good, but he isn't the best for this situation. I gently interrupt, "Let me talk to him, Sho."

He takes a moment to nod and gets back to work.

I leave the room to search for Izuku.

SHATTER!

Soon after follows a scream.

I quickly run towards the sound to find it came from the bathroom.

Gently, I open the door to see shards all over the floor from a destroyed mirror. Nearby, I see Izuku's prosthetic on the ground.

Finally, I see Izuku curled up against the wall trembling, still incoherently screaming while sobbing.

I bend down to his height, but I keep my distance. As softly as I can, I ask, "Zu, it's Nemuri. Can you hear me?"

Instantly, the screaming stop. He looks up at me with a broken expression, something I never wanted to see from him.

I sigh. Now is the time to ask, "Izuku, do you blame yourself for Inko's death?"

Like that, everything he has been holding back explodes,

"YES! I COULD HAVE DONE SO MANY THINGS! I COULD HAVE USED MY GRAPPLE ON HIM! I COULD HAVE TACKLED HIM!

BUT NO! I FUCKING FROZE! I COULD BE SMILING WITH HER AND TELLING HER MY STUPID STORIES TO HEAR HER LAUGH RIGHT NOW, BUT NO! I HAD TO FUCK IT ALL UP!"

Izuku chokes, struggling to breathe for a moment as he cries.

I carefully crawl over the glass. I sit beside him, pull him on my lap, and start rocking him gently, "Shh..it's okay...breathe...I got you, Zu."

Izuku clings to me instantly and forces himself to speak, "I'm s-s-sorry, N-Nem, but i-i-i-it h-hurts!"

"It's going to hurt for a while, sweetheart. It takes time. I know time isn't on your side with everything going on, but Sho, Zashi, and I are there for you."

He remains there balling, and it hurts my heart. Izuku doesn't deserve this.

Eventually, Izuku calms down.

I pull out some tissues from my handbag and start wiping his face gently even though he won't look at me, "You need anything, Zu?"

It takes him a moment to respond, "S-Sho..." That's expected. Shouta is his rock. I pull out my phone to text Shouta to come here and bring water as well.

Less than a minute later, Shouta is at the door with a water bottle. When he sees the place than us, he is instantly at Izuku's side, running his hand through Izuku's hair to calm him down. Slowly, Izuku lets go of me to hold onto Shouta. Shouta gently leads the two across the glass to get out of there. I grab Izuku's prosthetic before leaving the room.

I face Shouta, "Zashi and I will deal with everything. Just take Izuku and comfort him. He doesn't need to be involved in this any more than he has to." Shouta nods and leads Izuku to one of the rooms with the couches.

We got you, Izuku.

You aren't alone.
