All That Glitters is not Gold

Thea woke with a groan hearing her sister yelling that it was time to get up. She could smell cinnamon and hear the deep frier, meaning Edgar's famous chicken and waffles would be on the table. She yawned, rubbing her eyes while getting out of bed, keeping the light off as she hurried around her room putting on a simple white and yellow hoodie, black leggings, and tied her hair in a ponytail. Before leaving her room, she grabbed her backpack and headed out to set the table.

"You are all aware it's three in the morning correct?" Shoto yawned, running a hand through his hair. He was dressed in his UA uniform, tie still undone but he tied it once he had fully woken up.

"We have to get to the I.T.B before it gets crowded with other students and in D.C it's already six in the morning," Thea explained as she poured apple, orange, and pineapple juice into three different cups.

"Shoto, what would you like to drink?" She called out ready to grab one of the juices.

"Do you have strawberry milk?" He asked, stretching his arms out behind him.

Thea paused, blinking in confusion as she turned to the fridge running her fingers around the cool container. Once she felt the little plastic top of the strawberry syrup and milk jug she grabbed both and reached for a cup.

"Mar, you got the-"

"Right here Ed, sis, is your backpack packed?"

"Yeah, oh Ed are you working again tonight?"

"Yeah, will you let Buck out later for Miss Davis?"

"Sure, I-oh wait I can't I've gotta meet up with the gang for practice,"

"Don't worry I'll take care of it,"

Shoto turned and watched them, a small smile forming on his face as they got along and worked together. They figured out little things to help one another and make life simple, but he found himself a little on edge with the family. After Edgar had attacked him, Thea had been staying up late to make sure he would stay asleep, while Mara would try to ease Shoto's mind. The three knew they weren't normal but they wanted Shoto to have a somewhat normal experience in their home. He ended up becoming friends with Mara, she reminded him of his older sister since both were a bit motherly. Mara was patient and caring, wanting her siblings and even Shoto to be treated with proper care. He and Edgar weren't very close, but they could hold a small conversation. Shoto could tell Edgar loved his sisters based on his protective nature and the one time when he had to go to work he still prepared dinner and tucked in Thea.

"Shoto, You okay? You're staring off into space." Mara asked, setting down a plate of waffles and chicken.

"Hm? Oh yes, just thinking," he replied as he watched Thea and Edgar from the kitchen. He watched them laugh as Thea took a bite of some burnt chicken making her cough and laugh as she called her brother a jerk.

"Your family is very different from mine, we typically don't do things like this...or have this kind of food for breakfast." He motioned to the food on the table looking slightly confused and intrigued.

"Every year we have chicken and waffles on the first day of school, it's something we started up when Thea was little," Mara explained while turning to her siblings, her eyes softened as she sighed, getting the young male's attention.

"We can't afford much and this apartment used to be just Edgar's, but that was before..." Mara trailed off becoming silent, but smiled ruffling Shoto's hair a little, "How about for dinner we have that cold noodle dish you were telling me about?"

Shoto's eyes lit up at the words and he nodded, already feeling his mouth water. He turned to see Edgar sit down and place the last plate of food while Thea handed the milk to Mara, who sat it down next to Shoto. He stared at the plate in confusion, not sure how to eat it but he noticed Thea putting syrup on her waffles while Edgar and Mara just started to eat. He decided to do a little bit of both just leaving some with and without.

He took a small bite with his eyes widening that the sweet and salty flavor mixed with the crunchy yet soft texture.

"I hate to ask this, but would it be possible to have this again soon?"

About fifteen minutes later, everyone was sent off to start their day. Thea had dragged Shoto to the I.T.B. Thea had explained that planes and cars could only get people to other states so quickly, so the Government had an order placed that anyone with a teleportation quirk was to help power the Instant Teleportation Base power plant. The building was beyond crowded, with people being taken to different areas and the teleportation pads being changed every few minutes not to mention fighting for a spot. Shoto was amazed at the chaos, but also nervous at not being able to figure out where to go. Thea tapped his shoulder looking up then back to him with a blank expression.

"Find the one that says Washington D.C, once you do run for the pad." She explained letting him do the looking.

Shoto glanced around holding her hand as he did, in case he needed to sprint for it but after a few minutes, he wasn't sure if any sign would pop up. Out of the corner of his eye, he spotted a pad and broke out into a sprint taking Thea with him. Once on the pad, fifteen more people joined and in the blink of an eye, they were all teleported to Washington D.C. The buildings were clean and the streets were busy with people walking or driving to and from. Many teens ran to the biggest building that was shaped like a big dome, a huge flag blowing in the wind with bald eagles flying in a circle around the entrance of the whole building. Many of the Japanese students looked in awe or shock while others just walked inside or played in the courtyard. Shoto stood with wide eyes as he looked to the building wondering what the new year had in store for him.

"What do you think?" Thea asked, cupping her hands over her eyes to see the school for the second year in her life.

"I have no words for its magnificence," He smiled at her then noticed her outfit and he furrowed his brows at her, "Um...are you not required to wear a uniform here?"

"The President of the school had a uniform order placed, but not all students could afford it so they got rid of that rule," Thea explained, turning to the group of buses that were letting children get off.

"Is that Bakugo?" He asked, stepping closer.

"Who?"

The ash-blonde stepped off the bus glaring at the other teens who laughed and snickered as they left the bus, food covering Rorrie from head to toe. His red eyes glanced back as some kid threw their water bottle at them laughing as it spilled on the girl. Rorrie stood still for a moment before running off to the other parking lot, leaving Bakugo behind. Blu and Amajiki stepped off next, not many people bothered them and Blu glanced around seeing other students look at her with fear in their eyes. Even after being at the school for two years, her quirk was what made them scared. Her blue scaled skin, three fingers with razor-sharp claws, and her yellow eyes scanning for prey made them uneasy around her. They also knew about her family issues thanks to gossip and rumors.

"You guys go on ahead, I've gotta find my other friends." She smiled and ran off going inside the school leaving the two males.

Rorrie had made it to the parking lot looking around for Jem's pink car in the usual parking area. She spotted it watching Jem and Kirishima get out of the car talking about training and what the first day would hold until Jem noticed her friend running over, her eyes slightly glossed. They hugged tightly holding each other close, Jem rubbing Rorrie's back trying to give her some comfort.

"Jem, Rorrie, what-" Marina ran over with Iida by her side, quick to stand by her friends offering Rorrie her help by picking off the food, "I've got extra clothes in my locker, don't worry." She smiled tenderly at the short blonde and looked back to Iida.

"It's alright, help your friend I'll find you inside." He smiled at her until he noticed Kirishima and Bakugo not far off watching in confusion.

Iida made his way over to the two and explained what Marina had told him about her friendships. The three girls had been close since grade school and stuck by each other through thick and thin, never letting one fall. Kirishima had explained he knew about Jem and Rorrie's friendship, but he asked about Marina wanting to know more about her. Bakugo stood there listening, but from afar he watched Rorrie making sure the two girls took care to get her in the building. His eyes widened when he noticed a metal plate flying at the girls and he ran towards them, grabbing Rorrie and blowing the plate up before it could hit her.

The explosion got the crowd's attention and everyone turned to stare at the new student with confusion until they noticed the smoking plate laying on the ground. Bakugo had a tight grip on Rorrie, who kept fighting and yelling at him to let go until he heard laughter coming from a group of girls.

On the other side stood Irena Adams, Kitty Collins, and Lucky Harlow watching with smug smiles on their faces as the blonde glared. Rorrie had stopped yelling and followed his line of sight. A quick flash of terror was in her eyes and she scrambled away running into the school. Jem and Marina followed her inside after getting a glimpse of the girls. Bakugo stood, hands in his pockets as the girls looked at him with judgment in their eyes. Many of the American students had the hair on the back of their necks standing up as they watched. Bakugo noticed Deku off to the side of Irena making his way to her demanding to know why she threw the block at Rorrie. Shoto had heard Midoriya's voice loud and clear, so he took Thea with him wanting to introduce his friend, but he stopped when he'd gotten closer to the area.

Irena listened and explained the two had a sort of rivalry, but she meant no harm. Her purple eyes had drifted spotting white and a big smile formed on her face in a matter of seconds.

"Thea! I haven't seen you in ages!" The girl yelled lifting her hand so the plate lifted up and moved to Thea pulling her closer and hugging her tightly. Thea stood still getting a hug from the brown-haired girl and she hugged back, smiling.

"Still sitting in the usual spot right?" Thea asked, not being able to see the shocked expressions of the boys.

"Yep! And you've got to tell me all about your little peppermint friend too, he's a looker that's for sure." Irena smiled, grabbing Thea's hand and dragging her off inside the school, not even glancing back to Deku.

The other two stood eyeing each of the students before walking to the main entranceway, Kitty stood in the center a smirk on her face as she lifted her hand with her claws slipping out. Lucky had pulled out a card, their eyes glowing as they did letting a playing card showing between their fingers. With one last glance, the two left leaving the student body outside with fear painted on their faces. Denki and Shinso had run up to the other boys and moved them away from the American students.

"Who the heck was that?!?!" Denki yelled as he grabbed Shinso by the arm shaking him back and forth.

"Well, Irena's my housemate," Deku spoke up as Todoroki also spoke up saying Thea was his housemate too.

"Rorrie and her friends all ran like they were scared, you think maybe there's a deeper reason for it?" Kirishima asked, looking around the group trying to get some ideas going.

"Kitty lives with Ruby, but she's usually in cat form and only speaks some weird language when Aizawa and I are around," Shinso told them as he handed Denki his cell phone to charge and get him to shut up.

"We'll find out more information later, right now we must be on our best behavior! We need to represent our school with respect and good grades!" Iida cheered giving a smile to the other boys while they groaned in annoyance.

A tour guide showed the boys around the building and how each hallway was set up for different core classes, fun classes, and training areas. The school was massive with an Olympic size pool, a gym, even an indoor running track for winter sports. It was mesmerizing to the students of U.A. and no longer wearing a uniform was exciting and felt very comfortable. Denki waved to new and old faces as Shinso marked different places on his map so he wouldn't get lost among all the chaos. Shinso would look up every so often to see the blonde wandering a little too far away so he'd gently pull him back by his sleeve and remind him to pay attention. Shoto, Deku, Kirishima, and Bakugo stayed close together as Iida led the group around with the tour guide occasionally asking questions. Without them knowing, a pair of pink eyes followed their movements while the sound of a phone shutter went off.

"So, the walking pokėball lives with you, Ed, and MarMar?" Kitty asked as she took a few more photos of the group, "and for a whole year! Ah! Thea this is so exciting for you! You have a real normal boy in your house!" she squealed with her brown tail swaying back and forth.

Thea took a drink from her water bottle as she stared back at her feline friend, her eyes no longer bright and shiny, but dull and empty, "His presence in my housing location means little to me, he's bought the fake side of myself and he'll continue to see that," her tone was cold as she spoke and it sent a shiver down Kitty's spine, "What about you? You have three of them in your house...how is Ms. Song taking the new living adjustments?"

Kitty shrugged her shoulders and sat next to the white-haired girl, her hands fiddling with the tips of her claws, "She's doing okay...she tells me to stop speaking in Greek, but I like to piss her off," She snicked getting a chuckle out of her friend, "And the blonde guy is kinda a dork, but sweet...and Shinso phew!" She purred his name and twirled her chocolate hair between her fingers, "You know I have a type and he's everything I want dipped in purple frosting! And his dad! Talk about a Dilf!"

Thea grimaced at the comment as Kitty continued to purr and flatter the boys who lived in her home. Her teacher must have had it rough trying to adjust to more people being in the house since it was usually just Kitty and herself. Thea listened to her friend before she could hear the sound of high-heels and steel toe boots approaching the girls. Irina and Lucky stood next to their respected partners smiling at the students from down below on the first floor. Irina spotted Rorrie and her group sitting at a table laughing at something on their phones. Lucky kept her sight trained on Blu who was standing with her group of friends and staying out of everyone's way.

"This year it's up to us to find out their weaknesses and report back to the higher-ups," Irina stated as she held Thea's hand giving it a small squeeze, "We need to get them to trust us and also keep getting our info," She looked at the three with a sweet smile, "Think we can handle that?"

Lucky nodded as they pet kitty's hair while a playing card twirled in her other hand, "I think we should befriend the Japan students first," They started and looked to where the group had stopped and seemed to be getting a greeting from the headmaster, "It'd be wise to have them in our corner and keep our own enemies closer."

With a nod, Irina gave each an assignment for the day, and the bell rang for classes to start. Amajiki wandered the halls for a moment before approaching his first class, health. It was strange that not everyone started off with a serious class like in U.A. but maybe with was a good thing. With a deep breath, he opened the door and saw complete chaos in a room full of minors. Underclassmen were on their phones and smoking out of vapes, while upperclassmen slept or were drinking coffee with desperation. He was horrified and wanted to hide in the darkest corner of the room, but he hear a laugh that made him feel completely at ease.

Mirio.

His warm smile and bright blue eyes made the boy feel at home and he stepped closer to his best friend ready for a normal day. Until he finally noticed about ten different people surrounding him like he was a rare artifact. The boy's heart dropped at the sight of his friend surrounded by people who all seemed to have his attention. He did catch sight of Mirio glancing back at a girl with cool pale skin and curly brown hair that seemed to be interested in the conversation. With a quick glance around the room, he noticed Blu in the back corner away from the rest of the class. He timidly approached her desk and quickly tapped the corner of it to get her attention.

Yellow eyes met Indigo and Blu seemed a bit shocked but offered him a simple smile, "Howdy," She started keeping her voice down, "What's up buttercup? Need something?"

Amajiki flushed at the nickname and gave her a small smile back as her souther twang kicked in. He motioned to the seat next to her and silently prayed she'd get the hint.

Blue tilted her head for a moment before she bit her lip and looked around the room before turning her attention back to him, "I don't think ya wanna sit by me," She whispered and looked down at the floor, "I'm the weirdo and if people see you with me it'll ruin your chance of a social life," She looked back up and offered a cheerful smile, "I wouldn't wanna ruin your year here."

Amajiki stayed silent for a moment, but nodded and turned looking for another seat. He pondered why she was labeled as the weirdo kid and if it was from her quirk or her appearance. He could recall a few times when he was made fun of for his ears or when his quirk acted up in middle school, but still, this didn't seem right. It made his blood boil a little at the thought of her being alone when he knew she was a sweet and caring person. He looked at Mirio once more before finally returning back to Blu and sitting next to her. The Dino girl's eyes widened as he set his supplies out and waited for the teacher to walk in. Everyone took notice of the pair now and the group around Mirio snickered at the two. The boy stood and waved at his friend saying he'd be walking with him to the next class. The entire room suddenly shifted and Blu hated the feeling of all the eyes on her almost as much as her seat partner did.

"I don't want a social life," The elf-eared boy mumbled as he looked the girl in the eyes, "Not without you in it..."

Blu's eyes watered a little before she smiled brightly and grabbed his hand with his whole face turning beat red, "I'm looking forward to hanging out with you Amajiki!"
