Chapter 6 - This Wasn't in the Job Description

Warnings: Blood and Gore, Near-Death Experience, Angst
---
Remember Midoriya?

So at Aizawa's test, I kind of wrote him off for a bit because, frankly, it's none of my business. Also, it involves All Might. I ain't willing to come close to any drama involving him.

Well, I overheard on the bus that the student's compare Midoriya's quirk to All Might. Between All Might's interest in the boy and Midoriya gaining his quirk conveniently at the day of the entrance exam, there is too much pointing in the direction that All Might has something to do with Midoriya's quirk. I don't know how, but it's there.

Maybe Nezu could tell me? Actually, probably not. The only person he didn't give me all the tea about is All Might. There's something there. I won't go out of my way to search for it, but if I have free time, I will.

Anyway, we arrive at this place called the USJ. Basically, it's a huge place with different environments for students to practice their rescue abilities. These environments can range from sinking ships to fucking city fires.

I think this just shows how much money is invested into this school.

The facility is run by Thirteen, a rescue hero who literally spawns blackholes! It's a great quirk for rescue because they can just suck up the debris in an area and throw it nowhere. It's like a vacuum you never have to empty!

Oh, how convenient that would be!

When we enter, Thirteen starts discussing the purpose of the place along with how people need to be more careful with their quirks as quirks can injure people as well.

Well, not mine, but I digress.

Thirteen finishes their explanation, and Aizawa is about to go into tell the students' tasks when the lights suddenly short-circuit and turn off with the electricity.

"What's that? Has training already started?" One dumbass redhead asks as he steps forward.

Aizawa snaps at him while he pulls his yellow goggles on, "This is not training. This is a villain attack. Kaminari, check for a signal."

The students seemed shock, which I don't blame them, but it isn't helping us either. I quickly load my two pistols because these students are my responsibility to protect as well.

Oh, and of fucking course Kaminari doesn't get one.

In the center of the field, there is a large purple portal letting a bunch of people, presumably villains, in.

"Thirteen, (L/N), take care of the students," Aizawa demands.

I look at him, "You better have a plan, Eraser."

Aizawa glares at me, "I'm not a one trick pony. Don't screw this up."

With that, Aizawa hops into the middle of the villain crowd and starts fighting.

I turn to Thirteen, "You take the back, and I'll take the front." With that, I walk through the crowd of students, "Follow me calmly. Don't do anything dumb please! That inconveniences all of us!"

I should have Thirteen lead, but I guess I am.

I start running towards the exit when the purple portal from earlier appears in front of us. I quickly raise my arms to keep the students back.

I guess we aren't leaving.

The best strategy right now is to waste as much time as possible and hope people realize something is wrong. There should be an emergency system in place in case something like this happens.

I mean, this is UA, so I fucking hope so.

Bright yellow eyes look down at us like children as a male voice comes from him, "So these are the UA's golden eggs."

Rule #1 in Survival: Acting smart is not always the best decision. Sometimes, you need to fuck with your victim's mind.

"And your eyes are as gold as Marigolds. Maybe you should do a color comparison? Or get your eyesight checked?"

I can hear the student's confusion. That is the first sign that they are shit at adapting. Actually, if the students could stop wasting their time with their rambling, they could come up with a plan to get out. Or maybe Thirteen is doing that for us.

The purple guy is just as confused, "You do not seem familiar nor do you seem like a student."

"Is that your way of calling me old?!"

"Of course not. I am just mentioning-"

"There is no need to lie! You totally meant it like that!"

"I promise you that I did not. As I was previously saying, I am sorry for interrupting-"

"Then why are you interrupting?"

"Excuse me?" He is the most proper villain I have ever met.

"If you are sorry for interrupting, why are you interrupting?"

"Well, I am Kurogiri, and we are the League of Villains. We are interrupting to take down the Symbol of Peace."

"Endeavor? He isn't here." I swear I hear a cough from that. Also, everyone should be surprised that I know that hero.

Though, to be fair, he is trashy enough to make himself a name.

"No. We are here to take down All Might." I hear a gasp from the children behind me. I'm not surprised. However, I do hear movement, so I assume they are coming up with something.

"Huh. Why?" Information gathering plus time wasting is the way to go.

"We would like to build a new society without heroes."

"And what do you plan on doing after taking All Might down?"

"That information is private. Now-"

"No, no, no. I need to hear this tea. Do you realize how ridiculous that idea sounds?! Taking down All Might is not going to lead to that. In fact, that's the worst possible route to take! He's going to be replaced without a problem. Of course, there will be problems but definitely not enough to shatter the hero way. You are applying history in the wrong places! This isn't one of those times where if you defeat the top person, you get the whole place!"

"Oh? Then what do you suggest?"

"That information is private. Besides, how do you plan on taking down All Might of all people? No offense, but he is OP."

"We have created something that matches the power of him."

"Kryptonite?" I'm getting close to ending this conversation, and I ain't willing to risk shit with someone who has a quirk to warp people wherever the fuck he likes. I start patting my leg as if to say 'hoes, have something ready.'

"You see the large creature in the plaza?" I adjust myself sideways so I am still half-watching him.

In the center, Aizawa is going ham on those villains, though it seems like they are not doing much. They seem inexperienced from what I see. If you look in the back, you see a man covered in hands just standing there, and I'm assuming he is the leader. Behind him, there is this huge ugly bird thing just standing there. It's not moving at all. There's something not right about it, and I wouldn't risk a thing with it around.

I face Kurogiri again, "Yeah?"

"That is able to defeat All Might himself."

"Alright then."

"Where is All Might? We heard that he is supposed to be here." Was he? I wasn't really paying attention.

"I have no clue, mate. I didn't even know he was supposed to be here."

That's when shit hits the fan.

Suddenly I am pushed back by Thirteen, who screams, "Blackhole!"

One of their finger caps flip off, and they start to absorb Kurogiri. Out of the corner of my eye, I see a boy zoom past. I presume he's going to get help.

"Thirteen, I apologize in advance for this. However, you leave me with no choice, "Kurogiri vaguely says. What the fuck?

Kurogiri forms a portal behind Thirteen. Due to Thirteen using their blackhole quirk, he is somehow taking advantage of that through his portal and starts ripping Thirteen in half. Thirteen is left with no choice but to cancel their quirk, and they fall to the ground.

Well, fuck.

That's when I realize Kurogiri's metal neckbrace that is exposed. I assume that is his physical body. I don't hesitate to run at it and jump to grab it, crashing onto the ground with it with a grunt and a sound of pain from Kurogiri. I put away my guns to have a better hold.

I attempt to pin down the metal brace as I look up at the students, "I need everyone of you to grab Thirteen and get out of here. Get as far away from here as possible and don't look back. Take the bus. Fuck driver licenses. Hotwire the bitch if needed but you need to get out because your safety is our highest priority."

A girl with long black hair tied in a pony tail looks at me with worried, "What about you?"

"I am irrelevant to this equation, but I ain't dying, hoe. Now move!"

I end up sitting on Kurogiri's body(?) in order to give the students a chance to leave. The girl from earlier made a thing that you carry bodies on, and the group put the body on that and just left.

However, that leaves me with a new problem: the villains approaching me now from all the damn sections. I assume the original plan was to send the students to each section and let them die there.

Small groups are easier to kill, after all!

Some are turning to Aizawa's shitshow in the plaza, and that's a good thing for me. However, that leaves him to suffer more.

The only guarantee I know is that I have to give up Kurogiri to them. Otherwise, I am a sitting rock.

There's so many ways to go about this. My first, and logical, idea was to run out of here, but that leaves the villains a chance to catch up with the students. I can either face them head-on and hope I have enough darts and strength, or I can push my way through them and tell Aizawa 'let's get out,' and we both escape somehow. This is assuming the students have gotten far enough to where they are safe.

Either way, Aizawa and I have a high risk of not getting out of here, and that was not on the job application.

I can practically hear my heart pounding as I watch them get closer. I'm fucking trembling. Unlike Aizawa, I don't have much fighting experience in general. Even if I get out, I'm going to be beat up.

I take a deep breathe, grab Kurogiri's body, and stand before my judgement day.

My first, and best decision, is throwing Kurogiri's body at the approaching crowd. That stops some of them, and I get the satisfaction of throwing someone before I fucking die.

Then, I pull out my guns and run in guns blazing literally. I immediately notice that they are inexperienced as I am able to hold for myself rather well even if I weren't shooting. The darts help tremendously, though.

Thank PowerLoader for that.

That's not to say I'm not suffering. I certainly am as my endurance is shit, and I'm not exactly fast. I already got sliced up on the arms a few times due to simply focusing on the wrong person at that time.

The other problem is the reload time. As it turns out, each gun can only shoot six darts before needing to be reloaded. Keep in mind that not every dart is even hitting. I say half are hitting due to the pure rush of the situation. Since I am duel wielding, I have put one away to actually reload the other. That's not really a choice here, so I'm throwing one at the head of one of the villain's while reloading with the other before grabbing the other and doing the same. It's when I notice only a couple of reloads left that I realize I need to save them for emergency. I switch to hand-to-hand combat in hopes that I'm better than everyone here.

I don't know how long I have been here. It could have been one minute or ten, but it feels like fucking hours, and I am about to crash.

Hearing a harsh smack and the smell of metal accompanied by pain in my nose is when I realize I need to switch plans.

I can barely breathe as I focus on dodging, looking for some sort of exit.

It takes a moment, but my mind quickly realizes that there is a huge lake for one of the zones that I can hop in and run away. It would certainly better than being the crap beat out of!

With my target locked in place, I fucking run out of the group of villains and jump.

Only to realize that I jumped off a fucking cliff.

I mean, I would have done it anyway. I just would have liked a mental warning before I did it.

I slam into the surprisingly warm water feet first.

Since I never explained my quirk into detail, now would be the time so that you understand.

My quirk is the ability to run on water. I must be making a running motion for my quirk to trigger, which is dumb, but alright. The moment I stop, I fall in. It only works on water, so I can't run on any liquid. The most important feature about my quirk currently is being able to climb on top of water. Since there is no literal 'on' with water, as long as it has something to do with water, the my quirk will trigger. This means if I am underwater and start 'running,' I am basically climbing stairs to the surface, which is more sufficient than swimming somehow.

I start climbing my water stairway to the surface and pop out, coughing heavily due to the previous suffocation plus water. However, I must keep running for it to continue.

As I am running, I take in my surroundings.

From what I seen, the villains have not moved from the front entrance. I assume they are trying to stop anyone from entering, but I don't think they're going to last if anybody from UA comes in.

Right when I am about to turn to the plaza, a sharp pain erupts in my leg. I'm dragged underwater. Of fucking course. I look for the source to find a person with a shark quirk. Seeing enough survival guides, I kick them between the eyes, and they let go.

I quickly climb back to the surface with the realization that I'm safe nowhere.

Finally, I turn my attention to the plaza only to nearly throw up.

The creature that Kurogiri pointed out from earlier is on top of Aizawa and breaking his limbs like the man is a goddamn barbie.

There is no way in hell am I going to defeat that. However, there is no way to defeat that.

Knowing the risks of being on water now, I retreat to land and bend down to watch my surroundings.

It doesn't take me long to figure out the leader based on his rage, "Where is All Might?! He should have been here by now even if the brats are retreating!"

The leader looks like he just crawled out of bed, grabbed some hands from the Halloween store, put them all over his body, and came here.

Honestly, he looks like shit from the all black clothes and shitty blue hair alone. Thank fuck I can't see his face due to the hand.

"We really should leave, Shigaraki. If the rest of the heroes arrive, we will have no chance to face them, " So Kurogiri just came to his side. That makes things difficult.

"If that's the case, we might as well leave them a present. Nomu-"

My feet moved before I could think of a plan towards Mister Handman, "FUCK OFF!"

As soon as I am close, I aim for a punch directly for his face, but my wrist is grabbed.

Pain immediately erupts. Fuck, this guy is fast.

"Who the hell is this NPC-?! HEY!" During his speech I aimed for a liver punch, but once again, he reacted on time and grabbed my fist with strength better than mine.

When I look down, I see my skin and muscle disappear and blood decorating us.

In a desperate attempt to get out, I fall back on my back to make the hander to fall with me. Using that momentum, I kick both of my legs into his stomach. He lets go through his pain, and I throw him to the side.

I reach for my gun and crawl towards Mister Hands. Before I reach him, he lashes at me. Realizing this is my only chance, I jump directly at him. I feel him latch a hand around my neck, but I completely ignore him in exchange of putting the gun to his thigh and shooting.

I push Handsy back and crawl back. Just as he starts to approach, he collapses to the ground.

That seems to be the breaking point.

"Nomu, return, " Kurogiri demands. I watch the Handman disappear from a portal under him. The Nomu crawls off of Aizawa and disappears into the portal as well.

When the purple mist disappears, I scramble to get up and stumble to Aizawa. I collapses before reaching him, crawling as quick as I can until I reach him.

I press to fingers under his neck.

.

.

.

There's a pulse! It's weak but there! I don't know how when this guy is covered in blood, but he's still with us!

I, trembling, carefully adjust Aizawa onto his back, "You better not fucking die on me, mate! You owe me for getting your goddamn coffee!"

Yes. That's what I'm concerned about for now.

Still, he can't die on me.

I hear soft scuffling near by, and I look up to see villains approaching us.

OF COURSE NOW THEY HAVE TO!

I attempt to stand on, but I immediately become dizzy and fall on me knees.

Fuck.

Fuck.

Fuckity fuck fuck.

Okay, what can I do-

"DO NO FEAR FOR I AM HERE!"

I hear sharp whooshes along with grunts until I see a blurry American flag in front of me.

"Oh my gosh. Don't worry, I will get you both-"

I snap, already tired of All Might's dialogue, "Take Aizawa to Recovery Girl now. Leave me behind. He's on his last string, and I am not letting the bastard die on me."

"Are you-"

"GO!"

I faintly hear All Might picking up Aizawa and getting out.

I look around to find no danger.

I'm safe.

I'm finally safe.

I feel tears roll down my cheek and pain explode in my entire body, but I don't care.

I'm safe.

I heave from over exhaustion, not noticing anything else as I get sick on the floor.

I notice the blood dripping down my neck and arms onto the ground.

However, I could be worst-

"(L/N)!" I faintly hear.

I'm safe...

"(L/N), sweetie, you need to stay awake-"

I close my eyes and fall asleep.
