CHAPTER 62
Author's POV
Sometimes, happiness and sorrow go hand in hand. On one side, where Maanya and Arhaan are celebrating their unity, Viren and Paakhi are enduring separation.
Inside the house, people are coming on stage and blessing the couple for a prosperous married life. Arhaan and Maanya smile for the camera, but internally both want some time alone.
Shaurya is discreetly looking for Aditi. His gaze follows her, ready to tend to her any need. The restraint he has to feel to even go near his baby mama is killing him, he is planning to let the world know that Aditi is his.
Party is in full swing, People are talking, some are dancing and some are devouring the delicious delicacies.
None has observed the absence of Viren and Paakhi.
Except one, Dhruv has been calling his boss for the last fifteen minutes but he isn't answering his call, worked up he wanders inside the hall.
Looking around, his gaze rest on a beautiful girl in a white lehenga, seeing her, his heart starts behaving unusually.
The girl he knows can never be his, taking his mind off of her, he wanders looking around and bump into Manav Singh.
The old man, in a good mood, doesn't say anything to the squirming man.
But he does notice worry on the usually cool and composed man his eldest son trusts so much.
"Is everything okay, young man?" Manav Singh asks losing his previous cheerful mood.
"I'm looking for Viren Sir, he has not been picking up my call," Dhruv replies.
"From how long?" Manav Singh feels uneasy, his son is never to ignore Dhruv's call because he knows it might be about security.
"20 minutes now!" Dhruv replies anxiously looking at his watch.
"His security team is not with him too," Dhruv says the one thing he knows will set Mr.Singh into anxiousness.
"He doesn't have security with him?!" Manav Singh explodes, afraid of his son's safety.
There are many after his son's life.
"Ask everyone to look for him. Don't let a single corner unseen." Manav Singh order.
"But sir? That will ruin the event." Dhruv informs about the possible damage it can cause if his team is involved.
"I don't care, I want to know my son's whereabouts." He declares stressed.
"Sir-"
"Do what you are told to do!" He shouts at Dhruv.
"We can ask people to proceed to the garden for dinner." Dhruv still interferes. Knowing his boss would have never wanted to destroy his brother's function over himself.
Manav appreciates the quick thinking of the young fellow. And once again realize why his son was hell-bent on having him as his security head.
"Okay, make the announcement." He orders and looks around for his brother.
"Dev!" He calls for his brother's attention.
"Take everyone outside, no one should be left inside the house." He asks his brother.
Dev Singh notices anxiousness in his brother's demeanor and asks, "what's wrong?"
Seeing the care and warmth in his brother's eyes he confesses, "Viren is missing for last half an hour. His security team doesn't know his whereabouts." Telling his brother he realizes that he feels more level-headed.
"What happened to my son?" Both Singh brothers look at the side to see the Singh females standing there.
Tanvi Singh feels the floor shifting from under her feet.
"Mom!" Shaurya supports her mother.
"Dad? Where is Viren Bhai?" Shaurya asks staring at his father.
Manav Singh looks around and sees his family and his new family standing around.
Mr. And Mrs.Sharma contemplate staying or giving the family some privacy.
But one look at Maanya and Aditi and they decide to stay.
Both the girls look worried.
"Viren is missing," Manav Singh announce.
Gasps were heard in the room. Everyone feels a sense of apprehension course through them.
"Sir?" Dhruv gives attention to his comrade.
"There is no evidence of his presence in this house." Dhruv feels anxious now.
"Look for him in the back gardens. He often goes there for solace." Arhaan intervenes, thinking of every possible way he can help to find his brother.
Dhruv nods and runs towards the back gardens. Shaurya runs after him.
They reach the gardens and see a struggling Viren on the floor.
"Bhai!!" Shaurya yells and rushes towards his side.
Viren groans in pain when Shaurya and Dhruv pick him up.
Dhruv orders his comrades to look around.
"What happened here?" Shaurya asks controlling his tears.
Viren in sub-consciousness doesn't reply.
Everyone rushes forward when they see Shaurya and Dhruv walking in with an injured, limping Viren.
Tanvi Singh feels her heart stop when she glanced at her blood-covered son.
"Viren!!" His name resonates in the room.
"What happened to my son?" Mrs.Singh shrieks.
Manav Singh rushes forward to hold his wife.
"Uncle!!" Shaurya yells for his maternal uncle who happens to be a doctor.
He rushes forward and takes a look at his nephew's wound.
"Get me a first aid box!" He orders.
Dhruv orders his teammate to fetch one.
"Vikram? Is my son okay?" Mrs.Singh asks her brother.
"As much as I can see, it is not a deep wound. I'll just clean it up and wrap it." Dr.Vikram Informs assessing Viren's wound.
"But why is he not conscious?" Maira question.
Everyone looks at Dr.Vikram for an answer.
"Might be in a shock, get me some water." He announces.
Flicking water at Viren's face, he smiles when his nephew gain consciousness.
"Son, are you okay?" He asks when Viren's eyes flutter open.
Viren looks around, trying to make sense of his surroundings. When he feels discomfort at the back of his head, he lightly touches it and feels a hiss leave his mouth.
Instantly as if a switch is flicked, he remembers him walking to the back gardens, hearing Paakhi's voice, and then someone taking her.
"Paakhi!" He shouts standing up.
Everyone looks at him stunned.
Mrs. And Mr. Sharma look strangely at him.
"Did that whore did this to you?!" Arhaan exclaims irked.
Everyone looks shocked, why did Arhaan say that.
One glare from Viren and he shuts up.
"Stop calling her names and if not because of you, I wouldn't have walked into that garden and Paakhi wouldn't have been kidnapped," Viren yells at his brother.
Everyone stays silent, trying to make sense of the turn of events within 10 minutes.
"Viren?" Arhaan implores hurt.
He feels a blow to his core. Paakhi is kidnapped? Because of him?
"What are you saying?" This time Aditi exclaims.
"Viren where is Paakhi?" Maanya asks walking towards him.
"Paakhi!" Aditi starts yelling her name looking around.
"Someone took her." Viren mumble.
"Took her?" Aditi gasp. Her feet feel like jello.
Shaurya sees Aditi struggling and wraps an arm around her waist for support.
He gently tugs her to the couch.
"Where is my daughter?" Abhay takes a hold of Viren's collar and asks him.
Viren looks down ashamed. He doesn't know.
"Where is she?" Abhay yanks him, causing his security to step ahead.
Viren halts them with one glare.
He understands Abhay's concerns.
"Sir, I don't know where she is, but I will get her here with you. And I promise." He pledges.
"What if-"
"No! Nothing will happen to her." He stops Savita Aunty from completing her sentence.
Manav Singh notes the determination in his son's eyes. He can see the concern, care, and most importantly, Love, for the said girl.
His son loves her.
"Do you have any name in mind?" Manav Singh asks his son.
Viren stares at his father and contemplates his mind for potential people who can do something like this.
"I would say, Boris or Saurav." Hearing him, a gasp was heard.
Everyone takes a glance at Fidgeting Sana.
She looks down ashamed. She can never surpass Saurav of such a crime. He can do anything.
"We have our eyes on Boris, he is right now struggling to get hold of his business. He doesn't have the resources to commit this from another country." Dhruv intervenes.
Viren nod at him, "Saurav?" He announces.
"We don't have any evidence on him. It is as if he disappeared from the face of the earth." Dhruv replies ashamed.
"Then who the fuck took her?" Viren shouts.
"I pay you fools to do what? You can't even look after one girl?" He chides looking at his security team.
"Where is that guy who was assigned to Paakhi?" Viren asks referring to the bodyguard he appointed for Paakhi.
Dhruv looks confused. He hasn't seen him since all of this.
He takes out his phone and makes a call to him. When it turns out switched off. He instantly realizes.
"What?!" Viren asks examining the expression change on Dhruv's face.
"He was into it. We haven't seen him since..." Dhruv informs.
"Damn it! Find him! Kill him!" Viren shouts in anger and pain.
He doesn't know what is paining more, his heart for Paakhi? Or his wound?
"Viren..." Mrs. Singh keeps an assuring hand on her son's shoulder.
"We will find her. Your love will bring her back." She assures.
"Mom, I love her, she is the best thing that happened to me, I can't..." He confesses.
No, he is not ashamed that a tear skipped his eye and everyone saw it. His concern for the love of his life is making him ineffective.
"Stay strong son! If you lose now, you'll lose her forever. Buck up! Think straight and get her back!" Manav Singh proclaims.
Viren looks at his dad and nod. He is right, he has to think of a way to get her back.
"I'm sorry..." Arhaan steps in, "My concern for you made me compare her to Shreya and I lost it, I didn't want to lose you again and the only way I thought was to keep you away from Paakhi. In my vigilance, I started amassing hate for Paakhi. Please forgive me."
Viren could see the genuineness in Arhaan's words.
"It is not me who you hurt," he says.
"I know, and I will make it up to her," Arhaan announces.
"But first let's get my sister-in-law back." Shaurya chime in.
Viren feels a giddiness course through him hearing Shaurya call Paakhi his Sister in law.
"Blush later, now let's go." Arhaan mumble in his ear.
Viren scowls at him and walks towards the door.
"Wait!!" They all stop when they hear Aditi yell.
Viren looks at her and watches her rushing towards him with her phone in her ear.
"He knows something," she says passing him the phone.
Without a thought, Shaurya grabs the phone and puts it on speaker.
"Hello?" Everyone stares at Aditi when they hear the caller.
"Prithvi? Can you please repeat what you just said?" She says on the phone.
"I got a call from Paakhi minutes back, she was panicking and crying, she was rambling your name. Is she okay? Where is the?" Viren felt a spike of jealousy.
"We don't know. Someone took her." Viren replies.
"Took her? What were you doing?" Prithvi yells.
Viren glare at the phone, he is angry that people are doubting his vigor, if he would have been able to, he would have killed that bastard who dared to take her.
"Man do you know anything else? Can you help us?" Arhaan says noticing Viren's irritation.
"No! But I'm coming. I will help you guys." He says and hangs up.
"Who is he?" Arhaan asks Aditi.
"Paakhi's brother," Viren says. If anyone noticed possessiveness in his tone, they don't react.
"Where will we find her?" Maanya asks sobbing.
Arhaan places a comforting arm around her and consoles her.
Everyone looks down, none has any idea about her whereabouts.
"Any ex-boyfriend?" Maira suggest.
"No, she never had a boyfriend until now." Aditi reply.
"Your ex-girlfriend?" She looks at her brother.
"And don't say you never had any, because we know." She rolls her eyes.
Arhaan stifles a smile whereas Viren glare at her.
"Because I never had any," he declares. Knowing after Shreya, Paakhi is the only girl he committed to.
"Sir..." Dhruv interfere.
Viren shifts his attention to him. When he notices uncertainty on his face he knew his man is going to say something serious.
"Who?" He asks.
"Mr. Yash," Dhruv hesitantly announces.
Viren feels his blood boil.
He takes out his phone and makes a call.
"Never thought it would take you so long to know it was me. But then again I did hit you hard on your head." Viren hears this on the other end.
"Where is she?" Viren asks succinctly.
"With me, the man who loves her and will keep her safe." Viren hears his sadist voice.
"Where are you?" He again asks ignoring Yash's previous statement.
"Somewhere you can never find us." Yash laughs menacingly.
"I will find you even if you are under the earth," Viren replies angrily.
"Don't try Viren, enjoy your life and let me enjoy my life with my soon-to-be wife." Hearing Yash's statement, Viren feels his blood freeze.
Wife? He's marrying her?
"Not till I'm alive," Viren says and cuts the call.
He looks at Dhruv who nods at him.
"We have tracked him," Dhruv confirms.
The three Singh brothers and their team leave the Singh mansion with determination.
Unknown to the fact that Yash has everything planned for them.

Paakhi POV
I feel a throbbing pain in my neck. Rolling my neck feels like someone is choking me.
A grunt leaves my mouth and I open my eyes.
Expecting to see myself in a dirty dungeon kind of surroundings as seen in movies, rather I gaze at the beautiful room I'm in.
Beige color walls color-coded with blush pink give this room a peaceful vibe, just opposite to that of Viren's.
Viren? How is he? Is he okay? Memories rush back. I remember following Viren into the garden and seeing a man behind him with a brick in his hand. I sobbed his name when he fell to the ground.
I remember scrambling towards him on the ground, but someone pulls me away from him.
As I cry his name, I'm yanked to the back of a car.
These three men haul me inside and when they are outside discussing, I grab my phone and call Prithvi. As I knew everyone else is at the party and might not hear their phone ringing. So my safe option was Prithvi. When he picked up his phone, I asked for his help. But suddenly, I feel a blow at my neck and I'm out.
Now sitting here, in this beautiful room, I'm freaked out.
I scramble off the bed towards the door and pull it.
It opens and I smile in triumph. I analyze the area and run where my feet take me.
Just as I turn the corner, I bump into someone. Instead of falling, I feel that man wrapping his arm around me.
I inch away to see myself looking into two beautiful chocolate orbs of-
"Are you okay?"
"Yash?"
We both mutter together.
"What are we doing here? Did they kidnap you too?" I ask him worried.
"No, no, we are safe here. We are away from that monster. I will keep you safe." He says caressing my cheek.
I feel uncomfortable and squirm in his arms.
"I won't let you go this time." He asserts fastening his hold.
I hiss in pain.
"You are hurting me Yash," I announce.
"Not more than you did me." He scowls.
His behavior is unusual. I feel as if I'm meeting this man for the first time.
"I don't know what is wrong with you, but I have to go. Viren is hurt." I say pushing him.
"No! Don't take his name in front of me." He yells.
I feel my heart beating faster in fear, he is acting like a maniac.
"Yash..." I plea his name.
"Look, I don't want to yell at you, tonight is very important. Tonight we will become one. Then no one will be able to take you away from me." He says, pulling me forward and kissing me.
His kisses are like venom, burning my skin. I push him hard and run back in the direction from where I came.
Taking turns and meeting dead ends was never my plan. But here staring at the wall, I feel helpless.
"You can never escape me." I hear him exclaim.
"I will, till my last breath." I rebuke.
"What is wrong with you Paakhi? That man has you blinded..." He murmurs scowling at me.
"No! It seems you are blinded with something." I chide back.
"You are one fierce woman and I like you for that." He smiles caressing my lips.
I bite onto his finger causing him to take a step back and hiss in pain.
Taking this as my chance, I run again. This place is enormous, with so many corridors leading to nowhere.
I pray to God for help,
"Enough!" He grabs my hand and pushes me onto the ground.
I hurt my knees and elbows, but that pain is nothing compared to the one I'm feeling in my heart.
"Maid!" He yells for someone.
"Make sure she gets ready in time, I have to get ready myself." He commands someone behind me.
"Ready for what?!" I ask afraid.
"Our marriage, love. We are getting married tonight." He smiles and walks away.
"Miss, come with me." The lady pulls me up from the ground and tugs me.
I yank my hands from her and run in the direction where I saw Yash going.
"Miss!!" That lady runs after me.
I see Yash's back and increase my speed.
With full force, I push him and he falls.
He glares at me and I feel a sense of triumph.
"Stop with your stupid plan and let me leave." I assert, scowling at him.
"I have been very patient with you, but you are forcing me to lose my composure." He chides standing up.
"Patient? Are you delusional?" I scoff.
Don't ask me where I got this confidence from, but I'm admiring it.
"Take her inside and do whatever you have to do." He asks two men that enter the scene.
"Touch me and I'll kill you." I declare glaring at them.
"Do it, Now!" He yells at his men.
When they take a step forward, I aim for the metallic sculpture placed on the shelf and use it as my weapon.
They both look at me as if I have lost my mind and take out their guns from the holster.
But I don't budge.
"I'm fed up with this behavior of yours. Either you do what I say or I'll not hesitate to hurt your friends." My confidence waver hearing his words.
I look at him to see if he's joking? But the annoyance and anger in his eyes affirm his warning.
"You won't.. " what I wanted to come out as affirmation came out as a question.
"Try me! Either you be a good girl or I will harm that little friend of yours and her baby..." Right now this man in front of me looks like a sadist.
"I can't marry you..." I plea.
"Why?!" He yells.
"Because I love Viren," I announce.
"Viren, Viren, Viren! Stop chanting that bastard's name." He hollers.
"You don't understand, he is using you. That man can't love anyone. Today he's with you, tomorrow with someone else. But I- I love you and will always care for you." He proclaims stroking my face.
"He-"
"You believe me right? You will marry me?" He asks griping my face. The pressure feels like he'll break my jaw.
"Answer me? Do you believe me?" He asks increasing the pressure. Tears stream down my face. When the pain becomes unbearable, I nod my head.
He instantly let go and I fall to the floor.
"See you in a bit." He smiles and turns around.
"Oh yes, how can I forget? A special guest is coming for our wedding, he'll see me win today. And this might be his last wedding or you could say the last event of his life, so it should be grand. The clock is ticking, don't waste the time." He turns back and announces with a sick smile.
I feel my stomach churn, I know who this guest is.
His words keep playing in my head. After that, I don't feel myself being yanked up or even getting ready.
I just see myself looking into the mirror.
Donning a beautiful red lehenga that any girl would feel blissful wearing, I feel trapped.
My breathing becomes ragged and tears once again start trotting down my face.
Every girl once in her life, wonders about her wedding day and her dress. I did too. Knowing I don't have a family, I use to think I will not have a big wedding. But I was determined to marry for love.
But look at me now, marrying a psychopath.
"It's the time!" One of those men from earlier announced walking in.
"But before that, look at this." He says pushing his phone toward me.
I take it from him and see a picture. The picture is taken somewhere outside because it is indistinct.
After some concentration, I see men lying down on the ground.
"Keep scrolling!" His triumphant voice makes me squirm.
With a shaky hand, I scroll the picture, and my breathing stop.
Viren, Arhaan, and Shaurya are standing in front of Yash.
The thing that terrifies me is that their hands are held by Yash's men and Yash is pointing a gun at Viren's chest.
As I Scroll down to the next picture, the phone drop from my hands.
"Where is he? What did you do to him?" I shriek.
That man scowls at me and picks up his phone before giving it to me.
"No! I don't want to see anything else. Just tell me where are they? I want to talk to Yash." I assert panicking.
Seconds later the phone in my hand rings, I pick it up and answer.
"What did you do to them? Where is Viren?" I plea on the phone.
"Love, relax. He's okay! Don't you remember he has to watch our wedding, the last wedding of his life before he dies?" Yash replies.
I feel tears of anguish streaming down.
"Why are you doing this? What do you want?" I implore.
"His suffering, I want him to suffer before he dies." The anger in Yash's voice confuses me. What is the reason for his anger?
"That's not right, you are not like this. You are a good man Yash..." I try explaining.
"Oh please, don't start your philosophy with me. Just get ready and come outside. One mistake and your lover boy dies." He rebukes and hangs up.
Helpless and afraid, I do what he said.
"Come!" That man yanks me outside.
I follow him without resistance.
Walking in the hall, I see Arhaan, Shaurya, and Viren, my eyes zoom on the cuts on his face.
Tears stream down my face, seeing him.
When his gaze meets mine, I pull my hand out of that man's grip and run towards Viren.
Reaching him, I hug him. His warmth, his cologne all seems to give me strength.
"I'm here, stay strong," he whispers to me.
"Get her." I hear Yash's voice.
Seconds later, arms around me pull me away from Viren. But I resist. I cling to him.
"Don't let me go!" I implore.
"Never, you are my heart Paakhi." He says looking into my eyes.
Before I could say or feel anything, the man holding Viren punch him in the face.
"Viren!!" I cry.
He just smiles at me.
"Now come here, or I can do much more than that," Yash orders.
I take one look at him and then at Viren.
To save the man I love, I have to marry the man I hate.
Slowly, I take each step towards him.
Walking past Shaurya, I meet Arhaan's gaze.
I don't know what was it, but I felt as if he's saying something through his eyes.
So I take out my ring and drop it just in front of him.
Slowly, I pick it up and then stand close to him acting as if I'm wearing it, to hear him.
"Help is coming, just stall this wedding." These few words were enough to give rise to hope within me.
And if you don't know, hope made this moment less difficult to bear.
"Get here!" Yash screech.
I nod my head and take each step slower than before.
He scowls at me and as I near him, he pulls me under the mandap.
There a priest is waiting with everything prepared.
"Start the ceremony." He commands him.
As the ceremony starts, my heartbeat accelerates.
What should I do? How can I stall this ceremony?
Questions skim through my mind. I look desperately with my eyes for something. Anything.
Then my gaze lands on the things placed a few inches ahead of me. Those are some important things needed during the wedding.
Accessing the items, my gaze falls on the small idols of Lord Ganesha and Lakshmi.
Remembering an instance from one of the many weddings we organized, I get an idea.
Something that would probably haul this ceremony is these tiny sculptures.
I wait for the priest to ask for my hand to tie the Mauli (a red thread that is considered sacred in the Hindu religion). Just as he did, I grab the opportunity and hardly scrape my hand along the pointed edge of the metallic sculptures.
I exaggerate my shriek causing everyone to pause for a second.
"What happened?" Yash yell, taking my hand and observing the splatter of blood.
"Paakhi!" I hear a yell from Viren but ignore it. Right now I should focus on my plan.
"I scraped my hand." I start sobbing.
"Let me go! Paakhi!" I hear hustling behind me and know Viren is struggling.
I take a deep breath when I hear a hiss from him.
They are punching him.
When it becomes unbearable, I stand up and yell, "stop hitting him."
They stop for a second but resume again.
"Please..." I join my hands in front of Yash.
He nods at his men and they stand back.
"Thank you," I mumble.
"Clean her wound." He orders. My gaze is fixed on the exhausted Viren as he kneels on the floor.
I hiss in pain when someone grabs my hand.
I see a girl in maid clothing cleaning my wound.
I smile internally when I see her slowly doing her work.
"Get out," Yash yells at her and snatches my hand from her. He takes the bandage and wraps it over.
I look at Arhaan with desperation. Now what?
When nothing comes to my mind, I do one thing, that I have learned from watching those Bollywood movies-
I...........
I faint, or you could say act to lose consciousness.
Expecting a hard fall, I thank God when someone holds me.
At that exact moment, I hear footsteps scrambling. Not one, not two, but many...
Desiring to open my eyes, I scold myself.
I can't, if this plan fails, I have no choice but to marry this monster.
"What is happening?" I hear a commotion in the room.
And for a second I feel arms slip away from me, not more than a minute they are replaced.
"Paakhi?! Love? Are you okay?" I hear and feel the comforting voice of Viren.
I'm so lost in relishing his warmth that I don't reply and he gets more agitated.
"Why is she not opening her eyes?" The care in his voice proves that I made the right choice, or I should say my heart made the right choice.
"Take her to the hospital." I hear a very familiar voice of-
"Prithvi?" I ask sitting up.
"Hello to you too!" He smirks.
I frown at his smirking face.
"So you were faking it?" I hear Arhaan ask amazed.
"You only told me to stall them." I pout.
He passes me a smile.
My attention shifts to the warmth I'm feeling on my back.
Soon arms encircle around me.
"Thank God you are okay." He mumbles into my ear.
I fall back into his arms, to earn a hiss of pain from him.
Hastily I turn around and a sob leaves my mouth when I see cuts and scrapes on his face.
Lightly caressing his cheek, I ask, "you okay?"
"Now I'm," he says placing his lips on mine.
I feel him pandering, he is telling me his worries, his fear, and anxiousness through this kiss.
"Let's go, guys, we need to go to the hospital. Uncle is waiting there." Arhaan says picking up Viren.
I stand up to follow them, that is when I gaze at my surroundings.
Policemen are walking everywhere, some are dragging Yash's men outside and some are talking to the maids.
"Come," I feel a supportive hand on my back.
Nodding at Prithvi, I walk with him outside.
Stepping into the fresh air, I feel relieved. Relieved it's over.
"Will you come with me or go with them?" He asks walking in the opposite direction of where Viren, Arhaan, and Shaurya are.
I look at him and then at them, "with them." I assert. I can't leave him like this.
"I already knew that, but why I asked, I dont know" he chuckles.
I smile at him and start my walk towards Viren's car.
"You think you can leave me so easily?" Within a seconds I'm held by Yash.
I squirm in his arms but stop when he places a gun at my head.
"Viren Singh, you don't win, I will never let you win. And therefore I'm taking the most important thing from you." He declares.
"It's me you have a problem with. Leave her. " Viren rebukes from where he is.
"Oh but, I know if she goes, you'll suffer. And I would love to see that." He starts laughing.
There are policemen everywhere, but none can help me.
"You had your choice, but you chose the wrong one." He mumbles in my ear and pulls the slide of the gun.
I see everyone shouting, but I can't hear anything. Their mouths are moving but I don't hear anything. Don't know what happened but everything started closing in, I'm feeling claustrophobic and within seconds everything is blank.
But before losing consciousness, I hear a loud boisterous bang.
Am I dead?!
