His dark eyes stared at me in disbelief and I followed suit.
"I can't believe it. Did it just have to be like this? This is so typical in a movie. But this ain't a love scene. I'm shocked that I'm actually seeing Daniel in the flesh." A soft smile formed in his full lips as he listened carefully to my every word as he always did without muttering a single sound. "Now you're deaf? Can't speak either?" I questioned narrowing my eyes at him with my hands rested at my hips.
"I'm just, I got caught off guard... But anyways, wow. It's been years since I've seen you..." I grinned. He gingerly approached me and gave me an awkward hug. My arms kind of dangled in the air in his tall height but thankfully he quickly backed off to my relief.
"Would you like for me to help you?" Daniel asked. I scrunched my eyebrows in utter confusion. He shook his head and cocked his head to the direction of my car rolling his eyes.
"Oh! Right, my car, lol. Please do proceede." He gave out a low chuckle followed by murmurs to which I couldn't decipher but didn't push in the matter to know what he said.
After a good amount of time he made his magic and turned on the car. The engine revved to life in a minute and the other it was silent. He grinned with that perfect smile of his proudly as the car worked perfectly now. Then he got out in a swift movement and at me . I catch them and told him like five times thank you.
He shrugged it off as if it was nothing but for me it was. "I don't really know what to say now, Sofia. It's been so long that my mind is just in blank. I'd ask you for a cup of coffee to catch on but I'm tied on my schedule.
I was on my way to my fiancés parents house where a party is taking place. I'd invite you but she knows about you... And since she knew how I felt about you," He scratched the back of his neck apprehensively not daring to finish the sentence. But I knew what he'd say. There's no way in hell she'd want you there.
"Oh my gosh! I'm so happy for you! Say no more, I'd do the same if I was her. This is enough, besides, I have to leave anyways somewhere. Thanks again Daniel." He just stared at me with no response in return. I pat his shoulder and turned on my heel and walked to my vehicle.
But before I could've go on my way Daniel tapped on my window. I clicked on the button to automatically roll down the window and I looked at him bemused. "Yes?"
I really wasn't expecting the next words he chose.
"Why did you leave me? Why did you choose Hunter over me? Did I not try everything for us?" His face was emotionless and I didn't know how to react towards those questions...
"Daniel, I thought we closed that chapter. I- I wasn't in love with you,"
"But I was. Besides, we were only nine months together and,"
"Daniel, nine months for me was enough for me to know we weren't made to be together. But look at you now! You're getting married and I'm so happy for you, honestly. Why did I choose him? Because no matter what he was my best friend,"
"Who you loved Sofia. Don't forget that small yet big detail. That's why I didn't want you to be with him. I knew he was trouble. I looked at his eyes and I just knew he would've broken us up and guess what? I was right because,"
"Look, we spoke about this. And fine, yes I did love him but I was always faithful to you. Always."
"So you left me before so you could be with him?"
"No. Hunter and I were never together. We still aren't. And I know you tried everything but all you did wasn't enough for me. I gave my 120% on the relationship... And if there's love, real love I wouldn't have cared. But, as you know, I wasn't in love with you..." He dropped his head gently and slowly lifted it with a broken look.
I got out of the car and this time I really hugged him. He squeezed me lightly. "You did everything and there's nothing wrong with you. You're perfect Daniel. But just not for me..." He kissed my head and nodded.
"Thanks Sofia... I guess that now we officially closed that chapter of our lives, or better said I did. Good luck in your life."
I backed away and once again got in my car. "You too. Also, good luck on your marriage. Bye!" He grinned and waved me farewell.

Well, wasn't that interesting... I pressed my lips and looked at the nearby mall. I parked at a parking lot where it was well lit. Then taking deep breaths, I dialed up a familiar number I knew from the heart.
"Yo Sofia, you bailed on us. What happened?"
"Jake, I'm sorry but I didn't have an emergency. I had to leave. I'm begging you to not hang up when I tell you what I wish to tell you. Not until you hear me out, okay?"
"Sure, I guess..."
"You're mother is free. She's with your dad Miguel."
"So?" Jacob said indifferently.
"She wants to see you and Hunter. I want you both to see her. She's changed Jake, seriously. No matter what she did, it doesn't define of the person who she is. No one is never really bad.
They're just misguided and lost souls... That's all. You're mom is different. Trust me. Can you get a flight here at New York?" I crossed my fingers and bit my lip. Anxiety was killing me.
He took a really long time. The line was completely quiet and for a moment I thought he hung up.
"Okay."
My mouth dropped. "Okay? As in okay you will come here?"
"Yes Sofia." His voice was flat but I knew the real truth behind it. He was shaken a little by this. But not in a bad way.
"Sofia, I'll call you when I arrive. By the way, Hunter left. Andrea also left and I think John left her. Why? No idea. But the rest of us are here and it's kind of messed up how you all left us here when this was supposed to be a vacation surprise party for Hunter. You know, my little brother..."
"I'm sorry. I know sorry won't cut it but I hope soon I can come up with something to actually repay you guys. Can you tell them that? Anyways, they can stay there though."
"They will. I won't. I'll call you when I get there."
"Wait!" I took a deep breath.
"What?"
"May you call Hunter and tell him that his mom and dad with to see him. Please don't mention me. And do whatever you can in your power to convince him to go with you please. Also, I won't be there with you guys... Take care."
"Why this? What's going on?" He sounded angry. But there's no way I will tell him.
"Just do what I say please." And with that I hung up the call. I knew he would.
I started to drive and drive until I reached the familiar graveside.
I parked my Jeep and with my heart pounding and my legs feeling like jelly, I walked to where my loved ones where at.
Lorelaine and David Johnson. Beloved parents and wonderful beings...
I always wondered why they put wonderful beings since it was better said as persons but, oh well...
I bent on my knees and with the tips of my fingers I traced their grave stone and names. Tears stinged my eyes and I hung my head.
"Oh father, momma. How I wish you guys were here... I'm sorry I haven't visited you guys for so long... I wasn't prepared to see you guys here. I still am not but I don't know what to make of my life. There's this thing missing... Momma, dad, that thing missing was Hunter. It was him. We kissed again recently...
What do I do? I- I love him but I don't want to get hurt. It's been so long, and our friendship is something I value far too much to lose it for my hidden feelings. I'm not a teenager anymore, I'm a woman yet right now, I feel like a teen all over again.
I wish you guys were here to tell me what to do. I wish dad could just pat my back and call me his little Princess again, I wish mom could listen to this and give me a wise advice but you guys aren't here... You're dead... And all I have left is God and- Hunter..." I began to sob and I couldn't find it in me to stop.
All of a sudden rain started pouring around me heavily but I didn't move. Then, strong, warm and wet arms wrapped itself around me. A familiar intoxicating cologne was detectable and a deep baritone voice spoke in my ear.
"I knew I'd find you here Sophie..."
