Ch21 What?
"So, how's life been going for you?" Lola started, while pouring some boiling kettle water into a florally designed cup I was holding out.
"To be honest, pretty hectic," I replied.
"Ooh, anything interesting?"
"I wouldn't say interesting more lik-"
"Interesting is right, "Daniel interrupted "I mean, in the time I was with them we've beat up Micheal and his gang, and Josh almost kis-"
"Daniel!" I shouted.
"...Never mind." He said and gave me an apologetic look.
"I heard about that one!" Lola replied.
"Wait, you heard about that? Please tell me no one else saw!" I panicked almost leaping out of my chair as I looked at Daniel for some sort of help.
"What are ya on about? There was a massive crowd everyone saw, it was the school latest gossip the second it happened. Busboy Josh Carter beats up Prince of School Micheal Weathers."
"Oh. That." I sighed and sat back down again.
Lola continued to go around and fill up everyone's cup with water and had set some tea bags - decaf and normal - on the table asking us each which one we wanted. I'm sure we all found it just a bit strange to be making tea in the student council room, or why the student council room even had the equipment to make tea in the first place, but we didn't question it. After all, we were getting free food.
Surprisingly, Lola was pretty damn good a preparing the stuff. I mean I'm no expert, but, I know a good cup of tea when I drink it. From the looks of it too, she had a bunch more flavours over in the storage cupboard which kind of made me wonder if she actually lived in the room, but I wasn't that rude as to ask.
"Yeah, like I said, everywhere, even now people are still going on about it. I just wish I could've been there to see the bastards face when he fell to the ground." She laughed.
"It was pretty gruesome," Victoria added in, and I think it was the first time she'd had any input in the conversation since it started.
"You should have seen it, Josh got so pissed it was unreal!" Daniel suddenly then paused to take a sip of tea, "Then, he ran up like wham and pow and kicked the guy practically across the room and wiped that smug little look clean of his face! It was priceless!" Daniel cried out.
"Wow, I didn't think of all people you'd be the one to finally put that jerk in his place," Lola smiled.
"Yeah, no one really expected it, I was so surprised when it happened I almost just collapsed on the floor," Victoria said.
"Please, guys it wasn't that big a deal..." I insisted.
"Um. Yes, it was!" Daniel replied.
The conversation continued for a while like that. Daniel exclaiming about everything, Lola asking questions, a lot of questions. I tried my best to calm both of them down and Victoria just sat there taking it all in with the exception of the frequent laugh and comment.
I was pretty fun. Sitting in the student council room, drinking mug after mug of different flavoured teas, while having a friendly chat. Though I was starting to wonder if it was possible to get drunk off of tea because, after a few more minutes, I was on my third cup of the stuff and was starting to feel a little drowsy.
"So, Vicky, how's the club going?" Lola spoke.
"Oh yeah!" Victoria shouted, "That was the reason we came here in the first place!"
We all laughed.
"Trust us to forget why we came here," I smiled.
"Oh, god, I'm sorry, I guess I sort of distracted you guys with the whole 'let me make you some tea' thing." Lola laughed.
"Nah, it's not your fault, we're just scatterbrains," Daniel said.
"So has there been any new people wanting to join?" Victoria asked.
"Not that I've been told I'm afraid, I was hoping you guy would have had more luck."
Suddenly, our talk was interrupted by a knock at the door. We all put down our cups of teas and Lola started to panic.
"Oh, crap!"
"What?" Daniel asked Lola
"I kinda forgot, I'm not supposed to let ya guys in here for this long, and I'm especially not allowed to be giving you tea. If the council catches me I'll have hell to pay, I'm the one who looks after this place!"
After hearing that the rest of us wasted no time getting to work, it wasn't that hard for us to adjust to the situation, we'd had to deal with situations like that more than once before. Quickly I dumped a bunch of dirty cups in the sink and Lola began rinsing them out while Daniel put the chairs back into the order they were when we arrived and Victoria wiped any spilt tea.
Another knock louder than the first one soon followed after that.
"Gimme a sec, I'll be with you in a minute!" Lola shouted over the roar of the hot and cold taps.
We were making a lot of noise, and the sounds coming from the inside sounded dodgy enough as it was. Without the shouting amongst us over what went where. Two minutes later and we were panting heavily, but at least we had finished.
"Come...In!" Lola shouted to the door.
Instantly a tall figure swung open the door and stepped inside.
"Joseph!" We all screamed when we managed to get a glimpse of who it was.
***
"I'd like to join a club," He said nonchalantly while looking at all of us.
"The hell are you doing here!?" I shouted.
He didn't reply for a while and I was starting to loose patience when he eventually spoke up again.
"You guys, you're starting a club right?" he said and reached into the pocket of his trousers only to pull out a crumpled piece of paper and began unraveling it. When it was full straightened out we saw it was one of Victora's crappy flyers. "I want to join your club," he said finally.
I tried to speak many times but I just ended up opening and closing my mouth like a retarded goldfish. This was the guy who just stood and watched as Micheal molested Victoria. One of the three princes of school. Fuckboy sidekick #2. Why in the hell would he want to join a club and ours at that?
"Well?" He asked again when no one would respond.
"Why in the hell would you of all the people on this Earth want to join our club?" Daniel asked.
"Do people need a reason to join a club that they've found interest in?" He asked and I couldn't deny he had a point.
"Give us one good reason why we should we let you after all you've done." I lowered my voice threateningly at him.
"First, technically, I didn't do anything, but to answer that question, if I don't join, your club won't have enough members to be able to become official." He started. "I saw your poster and I know the rules of starting a club; I read them on the notice board. I did some snooping and I found you have four members already, you only need one more." He said, in his usually unenthusiastic monotone voice.
Crap, I forgot about that I thought.
"Look, I understand you're mad and I don't deny you have every right to be, what Michael did wasn't right, but, don't hold it against him, he's been through a lot."
I couldn't believe this. After all they'd put us through, the kiss, Mr. Thornbill, my weird emotion going haywire and now Joseph was agreeing with me, wanting me to just forgive and forget, move on, pretend as if it all never happened just because Micheal's been through a lot? Hell no.
"You can take your sappy story and shove it down your ass if you think we're just going to-" I started.
"Josh... I think we should let him join." Victoria whispered.
I stared at her for a few second just to check for any signs that she was joking, I couldn't see any. I couldn't believe this, Victoria was actually agreeing with them?
"Vic, you've got to be kidding, please tell me you're kidding," Daniel said.
"Yeah, Victoria, listen to him, do you not remember what they did!?" I shouted.
"Guys!" She shouted back and both me and Daniel went silent.
"I understand how you feel, really, but, I've always been a strong believer in second chances and I think we should hear him out." She whispered.
No one spoke.
It was a few minutes after that, I approached Joseph who was still standing at the door.
"Look, you better thank your lucky stars she's a lot more generous than I am because if were up to me, you'd be gone right now." I stared at him directly in his eyes, searching for any signs of emotion, and I came out empty handed. "Tomorrow, same place, same time, then we'll talk, and if you try anything, I'll personally make sure you rot in hell." I snarled and poked him in the chest.
He didn't say anything back to me, neither did he smile or frown, instead he just stood still in absolute silence. It wasn't until later he nodded his head at us and saw himself out the door.
"Well, I wasn't expecting that," Lola said. "...So, does that mean that he's in?"
"Yeah... I guess it does." I sighed.
