Chapter Sixty-two: Charmed to meet you

Chapter Sixty-two: Charmed to meet you

"Surprise!"

Well, it was the week of thanksgiving and the school was used to the tradition of giving us the whole week free instead of just that Thursday, so here I am, not complaining.

"What?!" I jumped on her, "What the hell are you guys doing here? I thought you said you were coming Christmas break."

She laughed. "Well that's the whole point of a surprise."

I squeezed her tight, "Shayna, I've missed you so much!"

"Oh, and Shane is just the taxi driver. Pay so he can get going."

I laughed at him as I released Shayna and went to hug him too. "I've missed you, little sis."

"I told you, you can't call me little sis anymore because I'm no longer little, if you haven't noticed."

He laughed and released me. He looked at me from head to toe, "What are you? Like 4 feet?"

I rolled my eyes, "Haha! You're so hilarious."

"One of my charming qualities."

I turned to Shayna, "He's still single, isn't he?"

She chuckled, "Yup."

He snorted, "You two are just jealous. I mean, what's the point of having one girl when you can have all of them."

"Ambitious?" I questioned.

"That's the spirit!"

Then I caught movement behind them, I looked around to see who it was. It was Axel. He was resting on the car flicking through his phone. I turned back to them, "What's he doing here?"

"He brought us here." Shayna replied.

"Actually, he gave us directions. I'd rather die than breath the same air as that prick."

Before I could inform Shane that Axel wasn't a family enemy anymore, Shayna spoke up. "How can you guys move into this insane house without telling us? Have they given mum a raise or what?"

"Actually..." I trailed off.

How to tell Shane and Shayna that this was Dad's house was going to be a problem. I needed to sit them down and have a conversation.

"Yeah, this house is beautiful. Imagine how our surprise went when we showed up at the door of an empty house." Shane chuckled.

"Yeah, it was Axel that told us that you guys weren't there anymore."

"Well this is just temporary." I muttered under my breath hoping they won't hear me and they didn't. They were too busy marveling in the beauty of the house.

"What's Axel still doing here?" I asked them.

"He wants to talk to you." Shayna replied.

Shane gritted his teeth, "You better not still be pining over him."

"I'm not. We're..." I paused for a while. "We're friends now."

"What?"

I put a hand on his shoulder. "You guys should just go in, I'd be right back."

"But we don't know our way around the house."

"Oh yeah."

Grace and I were in the kitchen. I was helping her with her English, like I had been doing since about 2 weeks now. I had promised her I would during that time when Zane and I broke up, but I wasn't able to until Zane and I got back together. I always did it when no one was at home. Mrs. Brooks hasn't yet agreed for Grace to move in, so I guess I'd try a different approach. I mean, I couldn't sneak her in. We wouldn't be in this house forever.

It was Sunday and Aaron was always with his uncle- who I found out was named The Great Ian. Anastasia is barely ever at home anyways. Except when she brings her friends to torture me. It was their parent's anniversary so they won't be back till tomorrow morning because I'm guessing they want to sleep at a hotel. No offence to the happy couple, but only God knew what Dad saw in her. She's pretty and all, but she hasn't shown me any nice qualities, but I intend on keeping that to myself.

And for Reveka, she was having extra ballet classes to be better than some girl named Thotiana. She said she had missed some ballet classes, so Thotiana was in the same rank as her now which was horrid.

Zane went to see Wren today because we hadn't heard from him in the past two weeks. How long does it take someone to reminisce?

Reminisce is used for enjoyable moments.

What's the difference?

Zane said it was better if I didn't come. At first I took offence, but there he explained to me carefully what my presence would mean and I forced myself to accept it.

I also hadn't heard from Serena, and I don't think she had reached out to Zane either or else he'd have told me. She's probably busy with modelling shoots. From CeCe's blog, I heard she had been asked to act in an upcoming movie so she was probably busy with that too. The last blog entry CeCe wrote was about Serena feeling sorry for me so she let me and Zane be. It was called: OUR SUPERMODEL AND ACTRESS-IN-THE-MAKING, SERENA DAVIS FEELS PITY FOR PATHETIC FRUIT-NAMED GIRL AND LETS HER BE WITH BILLIONAIRE, ZANE RIVERS.

Pathetic fruit-named girl?

Yup, that's me!

So, it was just Grace and I at home.

"Grace!!" I called out for her. She came quickly.

"Grace, these are my sisters."

Shane shot me a glare before turning to smile at Grace. "Ignore my little sister, she's probably drunk."

I beamed at him. "I never drink."

Shayna shook Grace's hand. "Nice to meet you, Grace, I'm Shayna."

Grace curtsied with her hand in Shayna's.

Shane took Grace's hand and kissed it, then gave her one of his famous smiles. "I'm Shane. Charmed to meet you."

She snatched her hand back, and... blushed? She blushed?!!!

She sent me a nervous smile. I couldn't help the smile on my face too. I shouldn't be happy. Shane was a player and heart breaker at 21, and I didn't want him to do any of that to Grace. I actually liked her, but there's no stopping Shane when he sees a beautiful girl. Animal!

I turned to him, who was staring at her intently, and then Shayna who was looking everywhere but here.

I clapped my hands together and then rubbed them. "Well," it probably snapped them out of it, "Grace, please take my sisters to the room closest to mine and Rev's."

She dragged me into the house and whispered. "I have not got any room ready Charvi."

"It's fine. They'd manage it. It's not like any room was dirty before. Mrs. Brooks makes you clean them everyday." Poor girl. Cleans all the rooms in the house everyday. Even ones that are clean.

She stared at her feet, "What if there ask me questions?"

"Then answer them."

"But my English still have problem."

I put a hand on her shoulder, "But it's better."

"We've not have many classes."

"You're a quick learner, I'm sure you can handle it."

She sent me a smile before we walked back aside to meet them.

"Are you two conspiring against me?"

Shayna rolled her eyes. "Not everything is about you Shane."

"Well, it should be."

"Grace is going to show you to your rooms." I turned to Shane. "Don't do anything stupid."

He scoffed. "I never do."

I rolled my eyes and left them to meet up with Axel at his car. He looked up when I got there and pocketed his phone. "I would ask why you took so long, but I already know the answer. Shane was probably convincing you to let him kill me."

I chuckled. "Hello Ax. What do you want to talk to me about?"

He shrugged. "I guess I just wanted to talk to you. I haven't really talked to you in weeks. You're always so busy with..."

"Zane."

"Yes him."

I rested on his car beside him. "I guess I do spend most of my time with him."

"Yeah. Do you wanna go somewhere?"

"I can't. My siblings just came home and I need to spend time with them."

He was silent for a while, "You know, there's always some excuse."

"Yeah, but they're always true."

"Charvi-"

I cut him off. "Ax, my siblings are waiting. I better go." I said as I started off.

He grabbed my hand. "Wait."

"What?"

"I just- I want you to be happy."

I sent him a small smile. "I want you to be happy too. I hope you find that special someone that puts a smile on your face."

"I already found that person."

Asking who would be plain stupid. Don't do it.

"Sometimes the person you think is the right one, isn't actually the right one."

Did you just make that up?

Yup. It just came to me.

He nodded and went into his car. I watched his car pull out of the driveway and leave before I turned back in and headed for the house.

I walked into the kitchen, planning to give my siblings time to unpack so I could quickly brush off some pronunciations with Grace. When I got there, she was staring intently at her book with Shane saying something to her.

"Shane, would you stop bothering her?"

Grace looked up at me and sent me a grateful smile. Why isn't she falling for his charms?

I think she's trying hard not to.

"Charvi, would you stop interrupting us?"

I walked towards them and sat beside Grace. "There is no us. And there is no interrupting. She's probably not evening listening to you."

"I'm sure she is."

"Has she replied you yet?"

"She's probably shy. People tend to be in front of me."

I snorted.

"You should just be praying that one day my charms pass down to you. Where's Reveka? I bet she got some."

I rolled my eyes at him. "She's at ballet classes."

"She still does that?"

"Yup. She loves it. Helps her channel her aggression."

"Shouldn't sports do that?"

I shrugged.

"How does listening to slow music and doing pirouettes calm someone down?"

"I don't know. Maybe the slow music."

He wanted to ask another question, but I cut him off. "Can you leave? Grace and I are busy."

"What are you guys doing?"

"I'm-"

Grace cut me off. "We are doing homework."

I turned to her. Why would she lie?

Probably doesn't want to be embarrassed.

Oh yeah, why didn't I think of that?

Well, you did.

Why would she be embarrassed because of my idiot brother?

He turned and smiled at her. "This is progress."

"Progress in what?"

He turned to me and glared. "I don't know, maybe having a normal conversation."

I pointed at the door so he could leave.

"But I guess got here," he whined. "Don't you want to spend time with me?"

"I'm coming. I just want to finish up with Grace here."

"Is she in your grade?"

"No, she's in the grade higher than mine. First year of college."

"Oh."

He better not be getting ideas.

"Who is she anyway?"

I gave him a weird look. "She's Grace. I thought we've established that."

"Yeah, but what's she doing here? Is she like your friend or your tutor or something?"

Is he stupid? I mean he gets all A's.

I literally asked her to show them to their rooms. If he couldn't piece that together, then his teacher has been writing the wrong grades on his paper.

"Oh."

He seemed to figure it out.

The room was silent for a while, then Grace spoke up as she stood, "Excuse me."

"Grace, where-?" Before I could finish my question, she rushed out of the kitchen. Shane and I watched her go, before turning to each other.

"Did I say something wrong?" He asked.

"No. Nothing at all."

"Are you being sarcastic?"

"No actually. She's just a little sensitive to her current..." I trailed off, trying to find the right words to use.

"Position." He completed.

"Yeah."

"So she's not in college? There was really no reason to lie."

"We didn't lie. We never said she actually went to college. We said she was in her first year."

He rolled his eyes. "I see you still have your smart mouth."

"I don't think people lose that part of their body. I better go check on her. See how she's doing."

"Yeah. I'll go meet Shayna."

I stood up and turned to the door to head out. Shayna was heading in.

I turned to Shane. "I guess you don't have to go far." He wasn't looking at me though. His eyes were set on Shayna. I turned back to her and her eyes were set on me. Her face looked pale and drained. She took steps towards me.

"Charvi. Explain something to me."

"What?"

"Why is there a picture of our-" She cut herself off. "Why is there a portrait of a man and a woman with two children hanging on the wall of this house?"

Oh boy.

********************

I couldn't wait to bring in the twins. I honestly just love Shane's character. He reminds me of someone.

Anyways, I hoped you liked the chapter. Please vote, comment and share. Thanks and Toodles ;)
