Chapter Sixty-one: My sweet fruit

"You went to school today?"

I got down from my car to meet Jayden standing in front of my house.

"You should have at least given me a heads up that I shouldn't come to your house this morning."

"I'm sorry." I sent him a smile.

"So what changed?"

I grabbed my bag and closed the car door. "Shouldn't you know? Since your brother keeps tabs on me and all."

He put a hand on his upper arm. "We're not in the best place right now."

"What do you mean?"

"I love my brother, but I want to help him, and he doesn't want that help and we got into a fight over it. He doesn't want me to come see you, but looking at you so sad all those days, I had to see you, and he's not happy about that. He said now you prefer me to him."

"I never liked him in the first place. Maybe if he tried a different approach, you know, not trying to kidnap me, I would have at least been his friend. Oh wait, no, because he's psycho."

"That's my brother you're talking about."

I raised my hands in surrender. "Your words, not mine."

I walked up to him and gave him a hug. He patted my head. I laughed. "You still feel uncomfortable about me hugging you?"

He didn't get to reply.

"I know I do."

I turned around to see Zane standing beside his car. I released Jay. "Oh, Zane, I didn't see you there."

"Yeah, you seemed pretty busy." His eyes shot to Jay. He charged towards him, and I jumped in his front. "Zane, calm down! This is Jay. He's my friend."

Zane's eyes shot to mine. "You're friends with the brother of your stalker."

"Well, if you put it like that, it sounds bad."

"It is bad. How can you trust him?"

"He was there for me Zane. He's not like his brother."

"How can you be so sure?"

"I just-" I paused to think about it, but didn't come up with a reasonable answer so I went with, "I just am."

"That makes all the sense in the world. I can't believe you're this naive."

"Don't talk to her that way man."

Zane's angry eyes shot to Jayden. "Why are you speaking?"

He moved forward. I put a hand on his chest and pushed him back. "Zane, would just calm down? If you're this angry, you'd spoil our day."

He looked down at me. "Fine, but make him leave. I don't like him at all."

"Fine."

I turned to Jay and pushed him back to talk to him. He looked down at me. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to cause problems between you and your boyfriend."

"It's okay. He's a little jealous."

"A little? He looks like he wants to rip my head off." He joked.

"I'll talk to him. I guess I'll see you later."

"Yeah bye."

After a last glance at Zane, he turned and walked to his car. I watched him go before turning around to meet Zane. He was glaring at Jayden's moving car. Then he turned to me. "I don't like him."

"You mentioned that."

"I really don't."

"Well I do."

"Why?"

"I just. I don't know. He's a good person."

"If he is, he should control his brother."

"He tries to, but his brother won't listen."

"Police."

"I tried that. Jaxon has friends on the other side, and they'd get to the police before I do, no one is going to believe me. On top of that, I have no proof."

Zane looked conflicted, not knowing what to say. So he opened his arms, "Come here."

I smiled at him before going to hug him. "I love you."

"I love you too."

"And I'd protect you for as long as I live."

I smiled into his chest. "I know."

He released me and stared at me. "Now to ask you on a proper date."

"What's wrong with saying, 'Let's go somewhere'?"

"Everything."

"Fine, go ahead." I actually loved that he wanted to do this. It was cute.

He got on one knee, my hands in his. I rolled my eyes. "Okay, now you're just exaggerating."

"Shh. Don't ruin the moment."

"Fine."

He cleared his throat. "Cherry, my sweet fruit,-"

I snorted. He glared at me and I kept quiet. "My sweet fruit, the Cherry of my eyes, would you do me the honor of going on a date with me?"

My smile could probably beat the sun's at that moment.

I grabbed his hands, yanked him to his feet and kissed him. He smiled on my lips and murmured, "I guess that's a yes."

*******************

"Where are we going?"

"On a date, where else?"

"We've been driving for a while."

"It's not very close."

"I can see that."

He parked his car, well we're there. I looked around. I saw trees around. "Where are we?"

"My parents' beach house."

"Another house?"

He got down from the car. "This is different. It's a beach house."

I scoffed as I got down. "Rich people talk."

He chuckled. "That's not a thing."

"Sure." I replied, sarcastically.

He grabbed my hand, "Just come."

He dragged me past the trees, so we were walking beside them, until we saw a clear path and kept walking until we saw a clearing that led to the beach.

"Wow." Was all that came out, when I saw the beautiful, clear and sparkling water. "What beach is this? And why are there no people."

"It's private."

"Your parent's own a private beach?" I didn't even let him finish as I pulled off my shoes and ran across the sand towards the water. But I stopped before my legs could touch it, beside the beach towards the far end was a house.

Probably the beach house.

It was elevated on the platform and it looked like it had two levels. It was a simple, but sophisticated beach house. And we had it all to ourselves. I turned back to where Zane was still standing, smiling at me, and I smiled at him.

He cupped his mouth and yelled, "How's this?!"

I did the same. "It's great!!"

"Why are we yelling?!"

"You tell me, you started it!!"

He smiled and started towards me. I, on the other hand, feeling very energetic, ran all the way to him and jumped into his arms.

"Best date ever!"

He chuckled. "But it hasn't even started."

"I can already tell. So what first?"

He started walking towards the beach house with me in his arms. "I love swimming. So how about that?"

"Perfect! What next?"

"Next, a picnic."

I smiled. "Are you trying to recreate our actual first date, but do it right this time?"

He grinned. "You know me so well."

Well, it is obvious.

***********************

"I want to see it."

It was Tuesday and we were driving home from Zane's practice when he demanded to see CeCe's blog. When we had walked into school together, everyone was staring at us. They were probably confused that we were back together from what they had read on CeCe's blog. They should stop reading that gossip site and focus on their books, it's less toxic.

When was the last time you read a school book?

We're not talking about me.

You're just lucky you still get good grades.

"I'm coming."

I opened my phone and went to her blog. It was in my frequents because I kept checking for more. I'd been thinking, Serena was probably trying to tell me the truth when she wanted to talk to me. That was sweet and all, but I still don't like her. I wanted to ask Zane if he was still friends with her, but I wasn't sure I was ready for that answer.

Zane had parked in front of his house before I gave him the phone.

"She's only written two blog entries about us, but there are new pictures." Just pictures about Serena and I talking in front of my house.

I waited in silence and patience as Zane read through the first entry. His eyes turned angry as he turned to me. "She has no right."

"I said the same thing, but Xander, knowing more about rights and stuff due to his parents being lawyers, explained she has all rights. She has right to speech and expression."

"But this is your private life. You didn't ask for any of this. That's the difference between you and Serena. Serena is a professional model. They are bound to be things like this. She chose that. This is just wrong and rude."

"There's nothing to be done about it."

"I can press charges."

"For what? For writing blog entries?"

"No. For following me. That's not okay at all."

"Let's just forget about it. What's done is done." I tried to collect my phone from him, but he held his hand back.

"I haven't read the second one."

"That's not necessary." I don't think I want him reading about how I might be cheating on him.

"I want to read it."

I rested my back on my seat and picked at my fingernails, waiting for him to be done. I didn't look at his face once. I only knew he was done when I heard a low growl coming out of him.

That could just be from the sight of Jaxon.

"Why is Jaxon in this picture?"

Yup, it was.

"You see, the thing is, I may have, kind of, run into him last week."

"Why did you not tell me?"

"Because you'd get mad. I'm not exactly sure who you'd have been mad at, but-"

He cut me off. "I am mad. That psychopath was within 5 feet of you, and you did nothing?"

"It was daytime. What was I supposed to do? Run?"

"Uh yeah."

"Look Zane I'm fine. See." I sent him a smile he didn't look like he was ready to return.

He gripped my phone tighter. "Cherry, how can't you see the problem? That bastard is trying to show he can get to you anytime he wants."

"He can't and that's why I'm still here. The only reason he actually showed up was because he saw me with Jayden for the first time."

"So this is Jayden's fault?"

"That's not what I meant."

"Well, that's what you said. I want you to stay away from him."

"You're not the boss of me."

"You're right. I'm not. So please can you stay away from him?"

"Zane." I dragged. "He's been very kind to me. He doesn't have any friends in this city. He only has his brother and at this moment, his brother hates him. The least I can do is give him comfort. Please understand."

He kept quiet for a moment. And then another. And then another. "Fine, but you can only see him at your house. Where I know you'll be safe."

I smiled at him and kissed his cheek. "This is exactly why I fell in love with you."

He raised his brows, "Because I'm letting you be friends with the enemy?"

I punched his shoulder, "He is not the enemy."

He gave me back my phone. "I'll just pretend you didn't say that."

I rolled my eyes as I got down from his car. "Are your mum and dad home?"

He got down too and locked the car. "Yes. They seem to be home more than usual now."

"That's good right?"

He walked around and placed his arm around my shoulder. We started walking toward the door. "Actually, yes. It makes me feel less lonely."

"You should never feel lonely. I'm always here for you."

He looked down at me, smiled, and kissed the top of my head. "And that's exactly why I fell in love with you."

I smiled and rested on his shoulder.

When we got to the door, he unlocked it. Once we entered, we could here laughter coming from the parlor. Zane and I shared a confused look before heading there.

When we got there, we saw Shayan and... Serena?

Shayan noticed us first. She was still laughing as she said, "Thank goodness you're here. Serena was telling me about the time she walked into her house, and saw paparazzi everywhere."

Zane ignored his mother and turned to Serena at the same time she turned to us. She sent us a small smile. "Hello."

"I told you I didn't want to see you."

"What's going on?" Shayan asked.

"Mother, can we be alone please?"

Her eyes shot to mine, then to Serena, then back to Zane. "I'll be in the kitchen with Rosita."

Once she was out, Serena stood to her feet and walked towards us.

"Don't." Was all Zane said.

"I said I'm sorry."

"And I don't want to hear it. I saw you as family Serena, how could you do any of that?"

"It was love. It makes people do crazy things."

"That's no excuse to do what you did. You saw how I was and yet you didn't do anything."

"I did. I went to her house to explain things to her, but she was being difficult."

"I don't blame her for not wanting to talk to you because neither do I. I want you to leave."

"I can't just leave. I have to fight for you. You're the best friend I ever had."

"Well, it's a good thing you said had."

She came closer to him. "Querido, don't do this. You know we can't be without each other. I'm your sister."

"Oh so now you want to say that? It seemed you had forgotten."

"I just-"

He cut her off. "Please go. I can't do this right now."

"Promise me you'd think about it."

He just nodded.

She turned to me. "Fofinha, I truly am sorry."

I sent her a small smile and nodded.

And then she walked out.

*********************

Well, there's that. I decided that since there's freedom of speech and expression everywhere, nothing should happen to CeCe, right?

Oh well. How was the update?
