Chapter Sixty: Did you say an ostrich is on fire?

I didn't even notice when the Ferris Wheel came down again because I was too busy being engulfed by Zane. When we got down, I was pulled into a hug by Xander who asked, "Are you normal again?"

I creased my brows. "I didn't know I was an alien before."

"Well you were. To us at least." 

"Did you plan this?"

"Well, after what Serena said yesterday. I decided to go meet Zane and talk to him about it. I couldn't tell you so I thought it'd be better if he told you himself."

I pulled him into another hug. "I love you."

He patted my back, "I know."

After we all decided it was time to call it a night, the rest went their separate ways and Zane took me home. 

When Reveka saw him with me, she squealed and went to hug him. "Bruny!" He chuckled.

When she released him, she yanked him down by his ear and growled into it. "If you ever hurt my sister again, a certain part of your anatomy would be plucked out and stapled to your forehead so when everyone sees you, you'd be the perfect example of a dickhead. Clear?"

He shuddered, "Crystal."

She let him go and started walking down the stairs. I just chuckled as his horrified face watch her go. And then he turned to me, "She scares me." I laughed at him as I opened the door to my room.

He walked into my room, kicked his shoes off and jumped on my bed. "It feels so good to be back."

I smiled at him as I walked to my closet. "It feels so good to have you back."

I brought out one of his shirts and  pajamas shorts. "You're staying with me tonight." I threw his clothes to him.

He looked at me with an amused smile. "You didn't burn it?"

I snorted. "If I got hold of a lighter at that moment, your clothes wouldn't be the only thing I'd burn."

He chuckled. "I wouldn't want you charged with arson."

"Or murder." I added.

"You wouldn't."

I smiled mischievously. "You have no idea what I'm capable of."

He smirked, "Well, I am looking forward to finding out."

He pat the space beside him on the bed and I jumped onto it, beside him, and snuggled up against him.

"I wish my ceiling was a planetarium. That way I could see the stars every time I look up."

"And then?"

I turned to him with a smile on my face. "And then I'd make a wish."

He stared at me intently. "What would you wish for?"

"I'd wish for this- this happiness you give me to be here forever."

He kissed my forehead and I closed my eyes at the touch. "You took the words right out of my mouth. I love you Cherry."

"I love you too."

We had spent the rest of the day, just lying and talking, before we finally decided to go to bed. Now it was the next day, and we were still on the bed talking about stuff when Wren popped into my head.

"Have you heard from him?"

"No, but I think we should let him be. He's probably at his cabin."

"Wouldn't he want his best friend?"

"Seeing as I knew, and didn't tell him, he must be pretty pissed off."

I rolled my lips inward. "I'm sorry. This is my fault."

He lifted my chin. "No it's not. It'll all be fine. I promise."

I smiled at him. 

He kissed the tip of my nose. "We should probably get out of bed now."

"But I don't wanna." I whined as I pulled the duvet more over myself. "I'm still tired."

He laughed. "Of course you are." He stood up. "Well I'm going to take a shower."

I was about to deny him access to my bathroom so he could spend more time with me, but my phone rang. I picked it up.

Mum.

"You know what, yeah, a shower seems like a great idea."

He chuckled.

"Don't use too much of my shampoo. You know it takes hours for me to look like this." I teased.

He laughed. "On the other hand, I woke up like this."

I rolled my eyes as he walked out the room. "You're still using that? Arrogant."

I picked up the call.

"Who's the woman I love most in the world? It's you! It's you!" I sang out.

The other end was silent for a while. "I would ground you, but you are very far away."

"I know I may have been-"

She cut me off. "You have missed all my calls, ignored all my text messages and voice messages. May I have an explanation?"

"You see the thing is-"

She cut me off again. "Can you imagine how worried a mother would be?"

"Why didn't you just ask Rev?"

"Because she always diverted the topic when I brought it up."

"Oh."

"I thought something was wrong and she didn't want me worried."

"You know Rev is a tad bit dramatic."

"No. Just tell me why you ceased all forms of communicating with me for a week."

"It was a stressful week. I had so much going on that I hadn't used my phone at all."

"Now you're in a better mood, were you planning to call me?"

"I was."

"What happened?"

I hesitated. "Problems with my boyfriend, that's all."

"What did Zane do?" She asked sternly.

"It was actually me, I misunderstood the situation."

"I see. Well, I hope you're feeling better. I was worried sick about you."

"I'm sorry Mum."

"It's okay sweetie."

"Cherry!!!!!!" I heard Zane yell.

"Was that him?" My mum asked.

"Uh... You know, the answer to that question depends on what you want to hear. If you want to hear a yes, I could reply that without hesitation, but if you want to hear a no, you may or may not be permitting me to lie."

"Charvi."

"Yes?"

"You think I don't know he sleeps over?"

I blinked. "Well yeah because you were in the hospital."

"Give me more credit than that."

"Rev told you, didn't she?"

"Wallace! Did you say an ostrich is on fire?! Oh my goodness! I'll be right there!" She yelled.

I snickered at her attempt to change the topic.

"I've got to go Char. Poor Ostrich."

"Of course you do. Bye Mum."

"Cherry!!!!" Zane yelled again.

"Bye sweetie." And she cut the call.

I dragged myself out of my bed and headed to the bathroom. Before I could yell a "What?" at him, the sight before me shut my lips. His whole hair was green. I almost burst into laughter at the frightened look on his face as he stared into the mirror and touched his face. I almost did not notice his perfectly carved torso which had no shirt on it whatsoever. I had seen it many times, but I couldn't help marveling at it. I was still laughing at his face though.

He finally noticed me and turned to me with a scowl. "You think this is funny?"

"Well your hair is green so yeah."

Reveka walked into my bathroom, fully dressed in her clothes. She only noticed me at first. "Aren't you going to school or have you forgotten this is Monday?"

I was about to answer that "yes, I had forgotten," when she finally noticed Zane. She burst into laughter, clutching her stomach. "Green is definitely not your color."

He picked up whatever he had put on his head. "What is this?"

Rev took it from his hands and turned to me. "Did you borrow my face wash?"

"No."

She shrugged. "I must have used it here or something. Why would you use it in the first place?"

"It was where the shampoo normally is and they're both black. Not to mention that the color was transparent until I put it on my hair. Can someone please get it off?"

Rev smirked. "You're really getting into the Grinch character with that scowl on your face. And on top of that, your hair is green." He scowled some more and she burst into laughter.

"I'm going to eat some sandwiches before I empty my guts on this floor from laughter." And she walked out of the room. 

Zane and I watched her go before his eyes turned to me. I stared at him with a straight face for as long as I could. I would have laughed if he hadn't spoken up. "Get this off my hair please. I hate color green." He whined.

I smiled at his cuteness before I walked over to him to help him wash his hair. "You're such a baby." I teased as I ran my hands through his green hair staining my hands with the color.

"I doubt you'd be acting better if your hair was green."

I thought for a while then smiled at him. "But you're killing it with that Cosmo look. You know, I could totally dye my hair pink if you want."

"No!" He yelled hastily and I laughed at him for that. I bent his head over and started washing the green off hoping it won't go.

"Aren't you a ray of sunshine today?" Axel asked.

It was lunchtime in school and we were all on the table except Wren and Zane. I know Wren said he needed space, but I think I needed to see him. I couldn't handle this distance, especially not someone I had been friends with for over a year now and gotten very fond of. 

Zane, on the other hand, was with his parents. They had something to do that he himself wasn't sure of. He said they were probably visiting a business partner and presenting him as the future CEO or something. He said he'd meet me after school so we'd spend the rest of the day together since we'd spent the whole week apart. 

"Why thank you. I borrowed part of the sun this morning." I joked.

"You and Zane are back together?" He questioned.

"Yup."

He just nodded and went back to his food. I loved how he wasn't creating a fuss about the whole feelings thing and we were moving aside from it. I wouldn't want to dwell on the past.

"Good." Jordan added. "Because his lie to Coach about being sick isn't working out well for the rest of us."

Xander nodded. "He's extra hard and pressurizing, saying stuff about how we should be able to act as well as his Captain." He mimicked.

I laughed at his expression.

"You see, this is why I swim." Kai shrugged and put a hand around Zahra.

She leaned into him and put a hand on his chest. "You've forgotten you quit a few weeks ago, haven't you?"

It looked to have clicked in his head, "Yup." He replied with a shy expression. We chuckled at his face and continued with small talk.
