Chapter Seventy: I was probably sleep talking
If it was a few months ago I would be shocked by the new house, but it was almost the same as Dad's house. It was a little bare inside, but Mum said once she and the interior designer had sorted things out, it would be homier and less Dad-like.
I liked my new room anyways. It didn't have a connecting door with Rev's own, but hers was opposite mine. And Shane and Shayna's were a little far off now.
Mum said we'd go early tomorrow with a moving truck to get the rest of our stuff before we start getting ready for thanksgiving. She said she'd invited some of our cousins and relatives. Some were flying in this night, but some were coming in tomorrow. I couldn't wait to see Delilah, no offence to her siblings, Stacey and Jacob, but she was my favorite cousin. She was so fun and we could relate a lot.
I had sent Zane home because it was getting late and I didn't want to keep him. He said it wasn't a burden and that it was just about 7 and insisted he stay so here he was lying down beside me on my bed.
I had already settled in my room, but my mind kept drifting back to Grace. I had to think of something. I mean I had to. She had already gone through so much already, and it just didn't feel right leaving her there so I was going to do something about it. Soon. At least as soon as I've found what I want to do about it.
Zane and I were talking when there was a knock on my door. "Come in!"
The door opened and in walked Dr. Wallace. I sat up on my bed. "Dr. Wallace, you're still here?"
He nodded. "I think I'd prefer if you called me Chad. Dr. Wallace is getting too formal now that I'm your mum's boyfriend."
I laughed. "Yeah, you're right."
"And that is what I wanted to talk to you and your siblings about. I didn't know you had company."
Zane stood up from the bed. "I was just leaving actually." He turned to me. "I'll wait for you downstairs so you can give me a goodnight kiss."
I smiled at him. "Why can't I give you one now?"
His eyes flashed to Chad's own. "Well..."
"I'm just kidding. I'll see you down."
He left the room without another word. I turned to Chad. "What is it you want to talk about?"
"Follow me so I can get the rest."
I followed him as he went from Shane's door to Shayna's and then we all settled in with Rev.
She sent us all confused looks that I'm sure we were sporting as well. She raised up her hands in defense. "If I asked for some family time, I was probably sleep talking."
We laughed at her stupidity. Chad shook his head. "That would be nice, but that's not what I'm here for."
He paused for a second, looked at all our faces and then continued. "I wanted to ask for your mother's hand in marriage, but I realized I needed consent."
I wasn't too surprised he was going to propose, and I didn't have a problem with a step dad. As long as he made Mum happy.
"Better, because I would have handed you your ass if you did it without consent from us." Shane replied.
Chad laughed at that. "I had a feeling, but I expected that to be coming out from Reveka's mouth."
"That's funny. I was thinking it."
"Ha ha!" Her and Shane high fived each other.
Shayna looked between them. "Is he your twin or mine?"
They shrugged and I rolled my eyes at them.
"So is it okay if I ask her to marry me?"
"I can't really speak for the rest," I started, "But it's okay to me. You seem to make her happy and she seems to be getting over dad so that's good. I also won't mind a father figure in my life, you know."
He smiled and side hugged me.
"Me too." Shay replied. "It may be different, but I'm open to change as far as you make our mother happy."
He smiled and nodded at her. We all turned to Shane and Rev.
"On some conditions." They chorused.
We all laughed at them.
As I was going down to meet Zane that night, I was happy and relieved that as Dad has found someone, Mum deserves to too. Doing all that thinking, it dawned on me.
Darien.
I had forgotten to go pick him up. He's probably waiting at the location he had probably sent me. Oh God! I am such a bad cousin. He's without his family the night before thanksgiving. I have to go get him now. I ran back up the stairs and into my room to put on my sneakers and grab my phone and car keys. I also grabbed a jacket. I jogged down the stairs and into the kitchen. I opened my phone. Darien had sent the address and a lot of complaints too.
Darien: Are you still coming?
Darien: Where are you? It's freezing out here.
Darien: If you were going to be late, you should have told me to bring a jacket.
Darien: I thought the time we agreed was 6:30pm. This is after 7. Can you not find the location?
Zane was drinking a glass of water when I got there. "Where are you all dressed up to? Sleeping with me tonight?"
"Maybe some other day. I'm going to get my cousin for thanksgiving. Darien, remember him."
"Come on, I'll drop you."
I showed him the address.
"Isn't that a bit far?"
I nodded. "Exactly why you can't come with me."
"I'll still drop you."
"But if you drop me, you'll have to take me back and you better get home. It's getting late. Your parents are home and they're probably getting worried."
"But-"
I cut him off. "I already told you there's no more Jaxon stalker creepy shit. I'm just going to pick up my cousin, what are you so afraid of?"
He pouted. "You're right. Maybe I am being an overprotective boyfriend."
I kissed his pouted lips. "That's right, but you're my overprotective boyfriend."
"Was that the goodnight kiss or am I going to get another one?"
I tapped his nose. "Well, aren't you greedy? Don't worry, I'll see you early tomorrow before I go to my old house."
We started walking out the house when he grumbled, "Fine."
I was about to enter my car when Zane kissed my cheek. I gasped and touched my cheek. "Did you just steal a kiss?"
He started running towards his car. "You'll never catch me!"
I rolled my eyes but laughed as I entered my car. I typed in the coordinates of the location Darien sent me into the car's GPS system. Before I started the car, I sent a quick message to Darien.
Me: I'm so sorry. Got caught up with family stuff. I'm on my way.
I put on some music since this was going to be quite a ride, and started the car. By that time, my phone beeped indicating a new message. It was Darien.
Well, that was fast.
He must have really been waiting.
Darien: Okay, I understand. I'm still here though.
Me: I'm coming. And as a sorry gift, I'll stop for some snacks. Are Cheetos still your favorites?
Darien: Depends on the flavor.
Me: I'll pick any kind and you better love it.
Darien: Of course you will. It's you.
I smiled at that last text and pulled out of the driveway.
It was about an hour later and I had gotten to the place where I was supposed to meet Darien. I had stopped at a store on the way to buy the Cheetos. I left them in the car as I got down. I looked at my time. It was 8:13pm. It seemed the place Darien wanted me to meet him was a gas station. It was deserted, but there was a store with the lights on there. Darien was probably in there shielding from the cold.
I opened my phone again, to check if I had gotten the place right so I won't have to enter the store for nothing, when a message from Jayden popped up. I was about opening it when my head was hit with something hard. Hard enough to knock me unconscious.
Ouch.

My eyes fluttered open at the feeling of a cold liquid on my head. The first person I saw when my eyes adjusted to the light of the room was Jaxon.
Oh hell no.
Panic gripped me at the sight of him. What have I gotten myself into?
I started screaming hysterically, but then I realized my screams were muffled because a gag had been put in my mouth. I was lying on a bed, but I was tied to it with handcuffs. My hands and legs were shackled to the edges.
"Oh good you're awake. For a second there, you actually got me scared."
Well you freaking hit my head.
"I know the gag may seem unnecessary, but I didn't want you screaming. I would remove it at some point. It's useless anyways because no one can hear you from down here."
I looked around the room and I was shocked by what I saw. It looked exactly like my room in Dad's house.
He traced my eyes. "Oh you like it, don't you? It looks exactly like yours so I hope you get comfortable."
He dipped a rag into water and put it back on my head. "All done." He dropped the rag back in water and turned to me with a smile. He put his hand on my face and I struggled with the handcuffs. Pain shot through my wrists and ankles. I continued screaming hysterically even though I knew it was helpless. I was so freaking scared, I didn't know what else I could do.
"There's no use in fighting it. No one's going to find you here so I suggest you enjoy it."
Enjoy it? Over my goddamned dead body!
"I know a lot of questions are running through your head and I'm going to answer them tomorrow."
Tomorrow?
"You may not be tired, but I have had a long day and I'm drained."
I wish I could drain all the blood out of your body. Organ by organ.
He stood up from the seat he had positioned beside my bed. And lifted the bowl of water from the bedside table.
"I would put on the TV, but I may not be coming back here and I know you don't sleep with noise. Or do you want me to sleep with you?"
I shook my head fast and sharply.
He had the nerve to chuckle. "You'll be changing your mind very soon. I don't want you to live here as a prisoner or my slave. All I want is for you to love me and want to be with me."
Never.
He was turning to walk out of the room, but then stopped to say something else. "Oh and yeah. There is no Darien."
What?
"I mean there is a Darien, but the person you were texting was me. I saw his number on your old phone and found a way to get your new number so I used that to talk to you saying Reveka gave me. And it was just my luck that you didn't ask her. I knew that one day using him would come in handy. Whether giving me personal information or locations. I was willing to take anything. And just by my luck again, you were willing to invite me for thanksgiving dinner. My luck again, you came alone. It's like we were fated to be together. As soon as that your so-called perfect boyfriend was out of the way. I thought I should kill him, but that would have just been too messy. Sucks right?"
Sucks?
He leaned down and kissed me on my forehead through all my struggles. "Too bad your lips are occupied. Maybe another day." He winked at me before walking out. Leaving me alone in this familiar, but unfamiliar room.
Tears started falling down my eyes when my situation finally sunk in. I've been kidnapped and nobody knows where I am or where to find me. I could be here forever.
I stayed awake all night, hopelessly struggling with the handcuffs and crying my eyes out.

Don't come at me. I have protection water. How was it anyways?
