Chapter One: As obvious as Plankton trying to steal the Krabby Patty formula
A/N: Hi! I'm Kaydee. I don't really like long author's notes. I prefer to just get straight to the story, but since this is the first chapter, I'd like to say a little something. This is my first official wattpad book and I really hope you like it.
Please give it a try and vote, comment and share. I'd really appreciate. Thanks.
Also, at every chapter I'm going to drop a video of a song I thought of. It's not necessarily related to the chapter so don't use that to judge the mood of the chapter. Plus, it's not always a full music video, it could just be a clip from a movie.

Chapter One: As obvious as Plankton trying to steal the Krabby Patty formula
"Wake up!" She practically yelled bouncing up and down my back.
"Get out! My alarm hasn't rung yet."
That was when my alarm took it as its courtesy to blast its ear-splitting tune. I groaned, grabbed my pillow that Reveka had slipped out from under my head and used it to cover my ears as much as possible. To my dismay, it made little difference.
"Ha!" She yelled as if proving me wrong. Stupid, as usual. "Get up, Charrrrrrrr! We'll be late."
"That doesn't make any logical sense. My alarm just rang."
"So? It's the first day of senior year. Isn't there a rule to get there extra early so you'll be there before everyone else?"
"If everyone followed that rule, everyone would be extra early, so what exactly would be the point?"
I expected different answers from her as she thought it over, but all she said, more like grumbled, was "Shut up, smartass!" as she stormed out. Dramatic, much?
I got up grudgingly and went to get ready. When I was done showering, the hard part was choosing what to wear. It's not like the first day of senior year was that much of a big deal. Not to me, at least. So I went with casuals. I wore my favourite shirt-white, long sleeved and with the DJ, Marshmallow's face printed on it. I paired it with black ripped jeans and my Adidas sneakers. I let my caramel brown hair down in its usual waves, stopping at my mid back. Simple.
I jogged downstairs, only to see Reveka eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. She wasn't lactose intolerant but she wasn't a fan of cereal or milk. Weird, right?
"Where's mum? Hasn't she come back from her late night shift?"
My mum was a nurse so she was always called in at odd hours, but she hadn't always been out this long. Ever since dad left, 2 years ago, she'd been working at extra hours to make ends meet. Lucky for us, Shane, my 21 year old brother, was on a football scholarship at college. His twin, Shayna, was also on a scholarship at a fashion school. By next fall, they'd have already graduated.
By the way things were going, I wouldn't have been able to pay for college. Good thing I took matters into my own hand.
"She called and said she took an extra shift this morning. I just don't get why."
"You know how she is." I explained, though that wasn't much of an explanation.
"I just don't get why she won't let us get jobs to support her."
"We've heard her explanation about a billion times so please don't ask her that again. I'm not ready for another 'Let the parents do the parenting' lecture."
"And as I point out every time when she's not listening. Parents, emphasis on the 's', and we only have one parent so it doesn't apply."
"Smartass."
She turned from staring at her PB and J sandwich and gave me a cheeky grin. "I know." She picked it up and took a bite of it. "Now hurry up before Kai comes to pick us up."
I ate my favourite cereal; Fruity Loops, and had grabbed my bag when Kai pulled up.
"Charvi! Get your behind out here!" He yelled from inside his car.
"Stop yelling!"
"Now, who's yelling?!"
"Shut it!"
"Would you both stop yelling? Mr and Mrs. Hesinefer won't be happy to be woken up by screaming teenagers. Again!"
Mr and Mrs. Hesinefer. Poor old couple decided to move into the house next to ours and Axel's. So many complaints about the noise. Axel probably doesn't care, seeing as he does whatever he wants and throws parties every other Friday.
Parties not hosted at his house are at some other jocks' or something. I don't really care because I don't attend. I mean, who won't rather stay at home to watch Netflix and chill? Oh, yeah! Majority of the student body. Even my friends went. They were able to drag me along a couple of times to change my mind. My mind didn't change. The parties just proved my theory that staying at home is better. Plus, when I wasn't staying at home, I had certain things to do.
"Okay, that's true!" I agreed as I got to the car with Reveka following closely behind.
"Get in and let's go." Kai urged.
I raised my hands in mock surrender. "I'm coming. I'm coming. Don't get your panties in a twist."
"I don't wear panties."
"It's an expression!" I argued as I hopped into the front seat and Reveka into the back.
He rolled his eyes as he revved the engine. "Don't forget your seatbelts."
"You don't have to remind us every time we get into the car. What are we, five?" Reveka complained.
"With the way you and Char act, some people may make that mistake." He countered before Reveka slapped his shoulder.
"Hey! Don't slap the driver. Plus I'm 18 now, show me some respect."
"You gotta stop throwing your age around like it's a royal title." I warned him.
Kai's birthday was a week ago and we spent it at his parents' beach house. He didn't want a big party, so it was just me, him, Xander, Leyla, Zahra, Reveka, Chloe, Sam and Ella. I asked if Reveka could tag along since mum was gonna be out all day. They were all okay with it since Reveka was practically one of us even if she was 15. She had a lot of friends but Chloe, Sam and Ella were the only ones she invited.
"Let me be! I'm 18 now so I'm older than you."
"Oh please. It's not like that has made a difference in your level of maturity." Reveka said with a roll of her eyes.
"She's right!" I added.
"Okay, enough! You guys should be quiet the rest of the ride."
"Not happening." I muttered under my breath as I looked out of the window.
"I heard that!"
"Good for you." I said as I took a sip of water from my bottle.
"Are you guys dating yet?" Reveka asked out of the blue. The water I just swallowed practically came out of my nostrils. I looked at Kai, and he seemed to be in as much of a shock as I was as his eyes literally bulged out of his sockets.
"Why would you even ask that?" I questioned as I turned in my seat to look at her.
She just shrugged and said "Isn't your boyfriend meant to be your personal driver?"
"I'm not her personal driver." Kai scoffed.
"You drive us everywhere we want to go until Char can buy a car, and when you're not the one it's Xander. I hardly doubt Xander can be her boyfriend you know. They're more like siblings."
"That doesn't even matter. What matters is where you got that silly notion from."
"To All The Boys I've Loved Before. Peter was Lara Jean's driver."
"And they told you that's what it should always be?" I urged.
"No, but Chloe and I came to a conclusion that it actually made sense."
I was just about to give a snarky comment about how 15-year olds shouldn't be coming up with theories when Kai pulled up in the parking lot of the school and yelled, "Get out!"
"You don't have to be so grumpy about it. We have first period together so you still have to walk me to class."
He groaned and slammed his head on the steering wheel. Can you believe this guy? The nerve! I rolled my eyes as we got out of the car.
"I see Sam. Bye guys." She said as she began to walk the other way.
"Bye Rev!" We echoed.
She turned, still walking, and pointed an accusing finger at us. "I told you guys never to call me that."
"We know!"

"Do you think he saw me looking? Oh my God, nooooo!" She whined as she not-so-casually rested her head on the table. It was lunch time and Leyla was, as usual, staring at Axel Brown, the captain of the football team, my supposed childhood friend and the jerk that leaves one house down from mine.
He was rude, cocky and so full of himself that I sometimes wonder what happened to sweet little Ax who was my childhood sweetheart. Good thing that crush ended in 7th grade when I realized how much of a jerk he was. But Leyla, dear Leyla started crushing on him in 10th grade and Axel never once acknowledged her. And you'd think it'd end there, but she seems to like him more every passing second.
I'd say who could blame her because of his good looks, but I knew better. Sure his golden hair was always styled perfectly and his eyes were the perfect shade of green and his smile was....... Ok you get the point, but I'm so over him. Poor Leyla hasn't gotten that same achievement.
Anyways, I was sitting at the table beside Xander and opposite Leyla who was sitting beside Zahra. Kai was probably talking to his swim coach about missing practice today, he had some issues to attend to with his family. He wouldn't tell us and I was actually worried. Especially because of how spooked he looked when he got that call from them.
"Oh, Leyla. Leyla. Leyla. The whole school saw you looking. You're not particularly subtle." Zahra said as she patted her back.
"You're as obvious as Plankton trying to steal the Krabby Patty formula." I added with a laugh.
"No I'm not. I'm very subtle. In fact, I'm as subtle as the most subtle person in the world. I'm the queen of subtlety. My level of subtleness is very high. I'm......."
Xander cut her off. "We get it!"
Since I was sitting opposite Leyla, I had to crane my neck to see the table at the centre of the cafeteria. Unlucky for me, that was the moment Axel decided to raise his head. Once I caught his eyes, I turned too fast for that to be casual. Urghhhh!!! Now he'll think I was staring at him. Could my day get any worse?
"Leyla, looks like your prince charming is on his way here." Zahra said with too much enthusiasm for my liking.
"Oh my God! Oh my God! Oh my God!" Leyla was saying it out loud as I literally screamed it in my head.
I heard his voice at the exact moment he sat down next to me, right in between me and Xander.
"Hello beautiful. You couldn't take your eyes off me, could you?"
I guess my day could get worse.
"He called me beautiful." Leyla repeated over and over again under her breath. Okay, he could be talking to her. I mean, who knew?
I was staring at my water bottle. The intensity alone was enough to vaporize all the water inside. Lucky for it, and unlucky for me, Axel nudged my shoulder with his, breaking my staring contest with it. One I was clearly winning.
"What?" I snapped. It wasn't exactly intentional, but it didn't matter anyways because the smile on his face didn't even falter.
"I said 'Hello beautiful. You couldn't stop staring at me, could you?'"
From the corner of my eye, I could see Leyla's head drop.
"Actually you said 'You couldn't take your eyes off me' not 'You couldn't stop staring'." I accidentally blurted out, while still trying to keep my cool.
"Ah! So you were listening."
"I never said I wasn't, we all were. I just didn't know you were talking to me."
"Who else would I be talking to? You were the only one staring at me."
I was about to point out Leyla was, but that would have been embarrassing for her. So I just went with what was easiest, straight out denial. "I don't know what you're talking about." I said as I bit out of my apple, aware of the 4 pairs of eyes on me. Okay, maybe that wasn't straight out denial, but pretence, but it's not like I was actually staring at him, I just glanced.
"Sure, deny it all you want. You just don't want to admit I'm hot."
"Get over yourself." I scoffed. He was probably about to give a snarky comeback when one of his teammates, I think his name's Zed or something, came to call him. I didn't even turn my head as Axel said I shouldn't miss him too much. I just rolled my eyes but didn't look up until he left.
"Now that guy's hot." Zahra said with a clap of her hands.
"Who?" I turned to see the Zed walking out of the cafeteria with Axel closely following behind.
"The captain of the football team." Axel? Really? I'd hardly call him hot. Zed was more on the hot side. Axel was just handsome, enough. Okay, really handsome, but who cares?
Instead of replying, I just banged my head on the table, trying my hardest to ignore Leyla's scrutinizing gaze.
After a while of picking at my food with no intent of eating it, I pushed it forward. I needed to use the bathroom anyways.
*************************
"Hannah!" I exclaimed with a smile on my face. "What are you doing here?"
No surprise there, Hannah was on my seat. Hannah Young, cheerleader and second-in-command to Skyler Torres. Their third was Amelia Mitchell. They were like wolves- queen bees- prowling the woods- halls- for their next prey- victim. Skyler never really bothered me, but Hannah, sweet Hannah, was a pain in the ass. All because she wanted to get with Xander and I was his best friend. I don't even see how that correlates, but who knows how her brain works? Rumour has it, she's a special species from a long gone extinct one, and she's just in camouflage. Meaning I couldn't judge her for her shortcomings.
She looked up beaming. She was a sight for sore eyes and she knew it. Darn that special species with their beautiful camouflaging skills! I'd have to ask Skyler if she was one too.
"Hi Charlotte. Xandy boo here, was just telling me all about how he spent his holiday." Then she gritted her teeth, still smiling. Must be a gift from her kind. "Most of it was with you."
I'm pretty sure I've told her countless of times my name is Charvi not Charlotte, Charlie or any other name she cooked up in her head, but apparently, her pea-sized brain couldn't handle the confusion. And that is why I just ignored today. I wouldn't want Hannah's kind to go completely extinct from overloaded brain capacity seeing as she's the last one.
I clapped my hands and rubbed them together. "Fascinating, isn't it?"
"Very." Zahra beamed then took a sip from her water. She always loved the drama and hidden insults in Hannah and I's conversations. Well, I don't want trouble this year so she better wipe that smile of her face.
"Anyways, can you get up from my seat now? I think you've heard enough. Don't you think so too Xandy boo?" I turned and gave him my best menacing smile.
He knew she wanted him. Everyone did. So I just don't get why he couldn't just tell her he wasn't interested. Or wait, was he? I mean he never wanted to talk about the matter, but the look on his face every time she touched him, hugged him or pecked his cheek was priceless. Sometimes he even looked like he's constipating. Poor him.
He looked up at me and shot me a glare. I just shrugged and urged. "Answer the question, Xandy boo. Or do you want me to repeat it for you?"
"I think I heard you. Thanks, Char." He replied, clearly annoyed.
"So go ahead and answer it." I pushed.
"Xandy boo, is she stressing you out?" Hannah asked as she clung to his arm.
"You've got to be kidding me." I muttered with a roll of my eyes.
"No, she's not stressing me out. She's right." The look of despair that we all saw clearly printed on her face was probably what urged Xander to continue. "What I mean is Skyler and the rest are probably waiting for you, and I don't want to bore you with my boring summer holiday stories. So maybe, I could call you and tell you later." He forced out.
I didn't think she could cling to him any closer than she already did, but she proved me wrong. She was so close to him that she could literally kiss him with one wrong move.
"You'll call me?"
"Yeah?" From the happy look on her face, I think she heard that as a statement and not a question like we all did.
"Spectacular." She bounced up from my seat. "Kiss you later Xandy boo."
Did she just say kiss? From the horrified look on Xander's face and the disgusted ones on Zahra and Leyla's, I think she did.
She turned and smiled at me. Even though it was obviously fake, I let her be. "Till next time, Charity." She said as she pushed me out of the way and walked passed me.
Charity? That was new. It better not be a joke to insult me. I'm no charity case. I hated it when people said things to me that played with my insecurities. It hit home, but I will never once show it.
"Can't wait Montana." I returned her plastic smile. I sat down in my seat and groaned.
"Montana? Really? You took that with you from middle school?" Zahra, the ever so supporting type questioned.
"I'm stressed, okay? That girl always finds a way to get on my last nerve."
"Just ignore her. When you pretend she isn't there, she'll eventually stop talking." Leyla offered.
"Easy for you to say. I don't see her seating in your seat."
"That's because I'm not always next to Xander."
"True." Zahra pointed out.
I just groaned again and slammed my head on the table. "Poor me then."
"Yeah, and poor Xandy boo." Zahra teased.
"Please never call me that in your life again."
"You didn't seem to have a problem when Hannah said it."
"Seriously guys, I'm gonna have a migraine from all this talking."
"I'm already suffering from one from the conversation between me and Montana."
Xander pat my back. "Dear, dear Char don't cry."
I swatted his hand away. "Lunch's almost over. I think I should head to my AP Physics class, and since the rest of you have study hall, I'll see you guys later."
"Wouldn't that be loitering? You still have 3 minutes, just wait a little." Leyla pointed out.
"It's not loitering if I have a certain destination in mind."
"I don't think that's how it works."
"I'm pretty sure it is." And with a wave, I was off.
I got to the front of the Physics lab about 2 minutes later, and was about to open it when it just burst open and slammed my forehead. I stumbled back but I didn't fall. Gladly, but my head still hurt like shit.
"Be careful next time, will you?"
"Hey! I'm not the one who walked face first into a door."
I looked up and scowled. Zed.
"I'm not in the mood for this."
He pinched the bridge of his nose and mumbled an apology.
"I'm sorry I didn't quite get that."
"I said I'm sorry.........." He gestured.
"What?"
"I'm asking for your name."
"Of course you don't know it" I scoffed. "Charvi."
And before he could say anything else, I went around him, walked into class and sat down. Seeing as I was the first there, teacher also absent, I brought out my phone and started playing Candy Crush.
I could already tell that this was going to be a long year.
