Song: Lost in This Moment by Big & Rich (It's a 2007 song)

Chapter Nineteen: Start beating your chest like the gorilla in King Kong

Just look at how they're descending the stairs like they're the King and Queen of England, swallowing up all the attention. Who do they think they are?

According to you, the King and Queen of England. I don't see why you're so upset.

I'm not.

Really?

Ok, yes I am. It's only because I feel bad for the girl he's using.

Yeah, right. How are you sure it's not Skyler or Anastasia?

Skyler has blonde hair and Anastasia's own is black. This angel's own is brown.

Caramel brown like yours.

Yeah, but prettier. For some reason.

"Who are those?" Zahra asked.

I turned my eyes back to them. "Zane and some girl."

"How do you know it's Zane?"

Should I tell them I chose his tuxedo?

Of course not.

I shrugged my shoulders. "I just know."

"How?" Axel pried.

"Before I get interrogated, I'm going to get some punch." I started walking away.

"I'll go with you." Reveka called out. I waited a little for her to catch up with me.

"What's up? Why do you look like you want to come down on someone like a ton of bricks?"

"Cos I do."

"Is it that girl that Zane's with?"

My mouth flapped open and closed like a fish.

She touched my shoulder. "It's okay to be jealous."

I'm not jealous!!!

I scoffed. "Jealous? Me? Of her? As if."

Really?

"If you say so."

"Don't say that like you don't believe me."

"But I don't."

"But I'm actually not jealous."

"Okay. Okay."

I changed the topic. "You're actually pulling this off."

"You owe me one. In fact, you owe me one million."

"Can't you just do it out of your love for me?"

She snorted. "What love?"

"Haha. Hilarious, aren't you?"

She shrugged her shoulders. "I try my best."

We stopped at the refreshment table.

Ellie really did try with the hall. It looked like a ballroom of a palace. Too bad she and Amara couldn't make it.

I was about to help myself to some snacks when I heard an unmistakable voice from behind me.

"I can tell your cherry colored hair from anywhere."

"It's red." I bit out.

"Huh?"

I turned to him and smiled. "Hi doofus."

His jaw dropped.

"Is your jaw dropping because I'm too beautiful or you're wondering what the heck is going on?"

He turned to me. "Cherry?"

"I'll take it's the latter. Yes?" I replied.

I turned to Reveka who was still helping herself to some food.

"Zane meet Avery. Avery." I turned her to face him. "Meet Zane."

He looked from her to me, and from her to me, again.

"What's going on here?"

Reveka turned to me. "Why does he look so confused?"

I shrugged. "Beats me."

He drew his eyebrows together. "Cherry, stop playing games with me. If you're you, then who's that?" He pointed to Veka.

She turned to me with a shocked expression on her face. "He knows? You told him before me?"

"Definitely not."

"Then how does he know?"

"He has a crush on me. He's like a stalker, so he followed me to work and back home, and saw me change."

Her eyes widened.

She turned to him. "You disgust me."

She stomped on his foot. "Ouch!"

I can't believe she fell for that.

She probably didn't. Knowing Reveka, she just wanted to do that.

True. She's really dramatic.

I know right and she claims she didn't learn anything from drama club.

She turned and walked away.

I was smiling so wide, I felt my lips would tear.

"Who is she? Why is she you? And why was that so painful?" He bent down to dust his shoes.

I shook my head. "Tsk tsk! So many questions."

"Answer them."

"You should know the answer to the first two, since you're a stalker and all. And the third answer is simply because you're not man enough."

He scoffed. "I'm more than man enough. I'm super manly. My manliness is the highest form."

I nodded. "Mmmhmm. Now start beating your chest like the gorilla in King Kong to prove your point."

He rolled his eyes. "Just answer the questions."

"First answer; she's my sister, Reveka. She takes after me. Clearly. Second answer; she's me because that's the best I could come up with at short notice. Third answer remains the same."

"Ignoring the third answer. Again."

"You didn't ignore it the first time."

"Whatever."

"Now, I have a question for you."

"I can see where this is going."

"Really? Enlighten me then."

"You want to know who I walked in with."

I scoffed. "Of course not."

He raised his brows.

"But seeing as you brought it up, I can't help but be curious."

"Of course."

I ushered a hand to encourage him to continue. "Proceed."

"Her name's Serena Davis."

"Next question."

Why is she so beautiful?

You haven't even see her face.

I can tell.

"Who is she to me?"

"You're good at guessing, aren't you?"

"No. Your curiosity is really obvious."

I opened my mouth to deny it, but I closed it back. I didn't want to.

He smirked. "Why are you curious, by the way?"

I didn't reply, I just stared back at him.

"Are you jealous?"

Oh hell no!

"Why would I be jealous?"

He shrugged. "Maybe because I brought someone that isn't you."

I scoffed. "Why would that make me jealous? In fact, the only thing I feel is pity."

His smirk widened. "Pity?"

"Yes. I pity her. Does she know she's being used by you?"

"Used? What gave you the idea I'm using her?"

I was about to say 'Because you wanted to use me', but that didn't seem like a good enough answer.

"I brought her as a friend. She has been a friend of the family since I moved to America. I contacted her to come with me, and she was more than glad to oblige."

"Okay, so you brought her here as a friend and you wanted to bring me as a pawn?"

Why do you sound so upset?

I dunno. I just am.

Before he could reply, the most angelic voice I had heard in my life spoke from behind him.

Stop exaggerating.

I'm not, I swear.

"Zane. I've been looking for you everywhere. Don't disappear like that. You're not the only one wearing a white suit." Serena came from behind him and put her hand on his shoulder.

She was smiling at him. And she looked utterly beautiful doing it.

She looks like a friggin' model for brides.

You say that like it's a bad thing.

"Who is this menina?"

Menina? I'm no menina!

You don't even know what it means. Or what language it is.

"Serena, this is Cherry. Cherry, this is Serena."

I forced a smile and held my hand out to her. "Nice to meet you."

She took it. "Same here."

"Are you the birthday celebrant?"

"No. My friend, Leyla, is."

She turned to Zane and tugged on his hand. "Why are we wasting time here then?"

"Glad to know I'm a waste of time." I mumbled under my breath.

"Serena, Cherry's my friend. I was just greeting her."

She turned back to me. "I love your dress, by the way. It's absolutely beautiful."

I blushed. "Thanks. Not as beautiful as yours though. You look like an angel that fell from the sky."

Shut up. You're embarrassing yourself.

She turned to Zane. "Isn't she just a fofinha?"

What does fofinha mean? Should I ask?

He gazed at me. "She sure is."

I don't think I want to know anymore.

"Don't you want to introduce me to this beautiful girl, Charvi?"

I turned my head to see Xander strolling towards us.

I almost said 'No, I don't', but restraint is key.

"Xander, this is Serena." I paused. "Zane's date."

"Nice to meet you, beautiful lady." He kissed the back of her hand.

She blushed. "It's nice to meet you too."

I don't feel like staying here anymore.

Then leave.

I turned to walk away, but Xander pulled me back.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa. Where do you think you're going?"

"You guys should get to know each other, I think I want to go and get fresh air."

"I've been looking for you. They're about to play my favorite slow song and I want to dance with you."

"Wait a minute. Isn't your favorite slow song, my favorite slow song?"

He nodded slowly.

Before he could get another word, I dragged him to the dance floor, as the song started playing.

I rested my head on his shoulder as he wrapped his arms around me and we started dancing. Few other couples joined in, but some still sat at the table. How could they not want to dance to this beautiful song? When the chorus came, Xander and I hummed along.

Lost in this moment with you

I am completely consumed

My feeling's so absolute

There's no doubt

Sealing our love with a kiss

Waited my whole life for this

Watching all my dreams come true

Lost in this moment with you

Very cheesy, but it was Xander and I. He was like my twin, my other half.

When the song was over, Xander and I walked over to our table.

"I love how we have the same taste in music."

He turned to me and smiled. "Exactly. I don't know how nobody else gets it."

"Remember that time we played Your Song by Elton John, and they all started groaning."

"All they want to hear is Perfect by Ed Sheeran."

"I love the song and all, but do they really have to listen to it all the time?"

"If you're talking about Perfect, yes we do." Zahra remarked as she came and sat down beside us. "You guys have way too much in common."

I scoffed. "Only if he had better taste in series."

He rolled his eyes. "Really? That again? I don't see why you get so worked up when I tell you that The Originals is boring."

Zahra gasped. "How can you say that? Klaus is the love of my life."

"I would support you, but I prefer Elijah."

She rolled her eyes. "I'm not getting into this argument."

"Why not?" Xander whined. "I'd really love to see you get into an argument about men that don't even know who you are."

I punched his shoulder. "Do you have to remind me?"

"Yes. You seem to forget."

Reveka came and sat down beside me.

"Can I talk to you?" She paused. "Somewhere private."

"Umm okay."

I turned to them. "Guys, I'll be right back."

We walked to the pillar beside the refreshment table where no one was lurking.

"What's the problem?"

"Wren just tried to kiss me. I mean you. I mean us. I mean Avery. I mean- You know what I mean." She ranted, frustrated.

What?

"He what?"

"Tried to kiss me."

"What did you do?"

"Since we were dancing, I pretended not to notice and put my head on his chest."

"Are you sure he tried to kiss you?"

"Do I not look sure to you?"

I was about to reply, when I heard Axel's voice. "Charvi, I've been looking for you."

"Uh, why?"

"I wanted to ask if you wanted to dance."

"You? Wanna dance with me? Why?"

"I just do."

"Where's Leyla?"

"She seems to be coming over here." Reveka remarked.

"What are you guys up to?" She asked as she put her arm around Axel's waist.

I ignored Axel's gaze. "Nothing important."

"Good. I want to borrow my boyfriend." She kissed his cheek and dragged him off.

"What was that all about?"

"I don't know." I replied.

"Don't we like sing the happy birthday song and cut the cake in this thing?"

"I don't know. Never been to a birthday ball before. Shouldn't be any different than a birthday party, right?"

"Probably. Back to the matter at hand, what should I do?"

"I don't know. Maybe you should just go on with the night."

"What if he tries to do it again?"

I didn't reply because I didn't have an answer.

"I want to go home, Char. I can't even hang out with my friends in this...." She gestured to her outfit. "Look."

"Fine."

"Really?"

"Of course. You've done more than enough for me. Thank you so much." I hugged her.

"You're welcome. The limo is probably outside. Tell Wren I had to go home. I'll see you at home. Bye."

"Bye." I waved her off.

I looked in the crowd for Wren, but before I could find him and angel walked up to me.

***************************

I understand if you don't like her taste in music, I wasn't so sure about it either. Still, I hope you enjoyed the chapter.
