Now, let's talk about Bonnie. In my opinion, Bonnie is an unneeded animatronic. All the other animatronics have specific roles. Freddy is the mascot. Chica has a cupcake. Foxy... Do I really have to say it? He's a pirate! Who doesn't like Pirates? And then there's Bonnie. I mean yes he does have his guitar but other than that he doesn't really seem to do anything with the kids. He just seems to stand on stage and play and that's it.

However, in Five Nights at Freddy's 3, we see another bunny looking animatronic, spring-trap. This is what makes Bonnie fit in the team. He's been with Freddy / Freddbear since the beginning. We even see him as a puppet on Fun Time Freddy's hand in Sister Location.

But other than just being Freddy's sidekick, he doesn't seem to have any major rool, except for being the only animatronic that can kill you in Five Nights at Freddy's 3. Also in the game, we find out that Freddbear / Golden Freddy and Spring-trap / Spring Bonnie / Golden Bonnie (They have many different names, I know.) are actually spring lock suits that employees can wear. We can even see Purple guy go inside Spring-trap at the end of the game. But, if he knew they weren't safe then why would he go inside the suit. The answer is simple; he didn't want to.

Let me clarify it for you. When you walk in the room purple guy is in as the crying child on the final FNAF 3 mini game You see quite a few things. There's yourself, the four other dead children, purple guy, and a deactivated Spring-trap. After scaring purple guy away enough times, he decides to go inside the suit to hide. But did he really decide that? As noticed by Matt Pat, from the Game Theorists, the floor in the room purple guy is in is wet because of the leaks in the roof. When trying to run from the crying child, he slips on the wet floor and falls into the wet spring lock suit, killing him instantly.
