Home Alone: a Novelization by Todd Strasser

I recall coming across the book Home Alone: a Novelization by Todd Strasser when it was a library book while I was in school, and I must say, I took a liking to it then, and I have plenty of good, positive things to say about it now.

For one thing, I like the 1990 film Home Alone, and I have my favorite scenes in the film, too. Also, this novelization of the film is different compared to the movie itself; to begin with, Kevin is revealed to be seven years old in the novelization, and in the movie, he says he's eight years old.

Also, whenever I recall the film, there's this speech Marley (played by Roberts Blossom) gives to Kevin (causing Kevin to realize Marley is a nice man, a Christian, a father and grandfather, and not the South Bend Shovel Slayer Kevin's older brother Buzz had made him out to be):

"You can say hello when you see me. You don't have to be afraid. There's a lot of things going around about me, but none of it's true."

That is quite different compared to the scene between Marley and Kevin in the novelization while they're in the church:

"You don't have to be so scared," Marley chuckled. "All that stuff you hear about me . . . none of it's true. Just the product of someone's overactive imagination . . . So, have you been a good boy this year?"
"I . . . I think so," Kevin stammered.

Also, I recall this scene from the film where Kate and Kevin turn and are both surprised and pleased when they see the rest of the McCallisters (except Uncle Frank, Aunt Leslie and Fuller) come back:

"No, I didn't fall asleep in the back of the cab and drool all over you, did I?" Buzz asks.
Megan replies with, "I don't drool."
"Would you guys shut up?" Linnie calls angrily.
"Come on, you guys, it's Christmas," Peter calls before turning to Kevin. "Kevin. Kevin. Kevin, my boy," he says before hugging him, telling him he loves him and then asking if he's OK, to which Kevin replies, "Yeah."
Buzz then says, "Hey, Kev" with a big smile on his face, and Kevin turns to him. "It's pretty cool that you didn't burn the place down," he says before offering his hand for a hand clasp. Kevin accepts while saying, "Thanks, Buzz."

In the novelization, the scene turns out like this:

"Did you have to fall asleep in the cab and drool all over me?" Buzz asked angrily.
"I don't drool," Megan snapped back.
Peter and Linnie were behind them.
"Will you guys please shut up?" Linnie said.
"Come on, you jerks," said Peter. "It's Christmas . . . hey, Kev!"
Kevin was so glad to see his father, he ran into his arms. Buzz even patted him on the head.
"It's pretty cool you didn't burn the place down," his big brother said.
 (p. 133)

Anyway, I highly recommend this book to those who like the Home Alone films, and I give it two thumbs up, as well as five stars (although ten stars would be even better). ❄️🎄
