3940

Alright this one happened just a few weeks ago.

Background information: I was taking orders through the headset, and working back window where we take your cash and payment and stuff before you go to the second window to get your food.

This lady pulls up and my headset beeps to tell me someone is waiting in the drive thru. I get on my mic and start talking to her.

Me: Hi, welcome to (place where I work). What can I get started for you?

Lady: 3940

Me: *types in code, and it shows up as invalid* I'm sorry ma'am. Your code isn't going through.

Lady: 3940

Me: *I type the code in again, and it still shows up as invalid* I'm sorry, but it is still showing up as invalid. Is there maybe another code I could try?

Lady: I'm pulling around.

I was training someone that day to take cash and card, but I had a feeling this lady was gonna be a problem, so I told my trainee to step back and that I would deal with this customer.

Also, they way our system works is that if a code does not go through, there is nothing I can do from my side to make it work. I literally have no ability to force the code to work, or apply it anyways, so there is absolutely nothing I can do except ask for another code. Also, you can give us the four digit code to type in, or if you pull up to our window, we can scan a QR code instead of typing it in, but that doesn't change whether the code will work or not.

Also, our computers are a two part system. We take your order on one screen, and then we send said order to a totally separate computer so the cashier can let you pay for your meal. If we have not taken your order from the first computer, there is no order for the customer to pay for at at the second one, meaning there is no order to add the scanned code to, because you have to be in an order to scan a code and have it added to that specific order at the second computer.

Lady: *pulls up to my window, and without saying anything, shoves her phone in my face, with the exact same code that I had already tried two other times and didn't work* Scan it.

Me: ma'am, I'm really sorry, but I can't scan your code if there isn't an order to add it to.

Lady: *looks at her phone then looks back at me and gives me the "why are you so efing stupid look* scan the code.

Me: I've already tried applying it three other times, and it is not going through, and there is nothing I can do on my side to make the code work.

Lady: well I don't know what you want me to do, because I've already closed out of the app and reloaded it. I don't know why you don't believe me that I have a code.

Me: it's not like that at all. I completely believe you that you have a code, cause I can see it right there. What I'm saying is that for whatever reason the system is saying the code is invalid, and it will literally not let me apply your discount.

Lady: you need to stop arguing with me.

Me: *confused because I have actually been really nice to this lady the entire time while trying to explain everything* maam im not arguing with you.

Lady: Yes you are arguing with me. I am the customer and you are the worker. You need to give me good customer service. This is ridiculous.

Me: If you're gonna treat me like this, then you can leave my line.

Lady: you will not talk to me like that. I am the customer. You are supposed to give me good service.

Me: You can leave my line.

I shut the window, and she is completely dumbfounded. My trainee and I are just laughing and I keep asking my trainee if I did anything wrong and even she said that I was way nicer to the lady than she would have been.

Three minutes later, the lady is still sitting there, so I call my manager (Maddie) over and explain everything that just happened, and my manager is kinda like my overprotective older sister/mama bear, so she was completely on my side.

Maddie goes to the window and this is the conversation that happens.

Maddie: *opens the window* Hey. What's the problem? *she was acting really nice to the customer to see how she reacted*

Lady: *I didn't actually hear anything she said, because I was around the corner where she couldn't see me, laughing with my trainee*

Lady: I want that girls name. The white girl with the long nails. What is her name?

My manager was not giving this lady my name, so I come out from behind the corner and tell her very firmly, "My name is Anna." She types my name into her phone, and then this happens...

I am now standing right where the lady can see me from the window. I was trying not to laugh, but in trying not to laugh, it came out as a smile.

Lady: you got something to say little girl?

Me: *busts out laughing again* no ma'am

Maddie: *shoves me out of the way of the window, and back behind the corner so the lady can't see me anymore*

Lady: *im pretty sure she called me a little bitch, but im not 100% sure, I just know she called me a really bad name and Maddie was not ok with that and this is when all hell broke loose*

Maddie: No! You will not talk to my minor employees like that.

Lady: I don't care if she's a minor! Whatever happened to customer service! Im mother customer. This is ridiculous! She needs to give me good service. She is the worker! She needs to act like an adult. Did you even hear how she was talking to me?

Maddie: I do not care how she was talking to you, or what she said. She is a MINOR. You will not say those kinds of things to my minors as long as I am here.

Lady: *keeps arguing when my manager cuts her off*

Maddie: look you can either leave my line, or start acting like an adult so we can work this out, but either way, you WILL NOT talk to my minor employees like that.

Lady: I am the customer-

Maddie: Ok bye *shuts the window in her face*

After another three minutes, the lady is still sitting there, and Maddie opens the window again.

Maddie: *states price of food*

Lady: *smirks at me and hands her card over*

Maddie: *explains to this lady that if she shows up on the property again, and orders from me, or any of the other minors in the store, that she would be calling the police, and then slams the window shut in her face again*

You know what all of this was for? A $1.29 medium fry. A $1.29 medium fucking French fry.

After the lady drove off, there was a small line of cars built up, so I was extremely apologetic to everyone behind her. The first car in line behind her was super sweet to me, and said, "Ya I heard most of the conversation cause my window was rolled down. The audacity of some of these people, and you didn't even do anything wrong!"

Anyways, ya Maddie ended up getting put on probation and almost got fired again for arguing with a customer, aka defending me, and I haven't seen that lady since.

How would you have handled this situation? What do you think of this series so far, and do you want me to continue it, because I promise I have PLENTY more stories to share with you all.

And if you have any questions, please ask me in the comments here! Especially from a teenage point of view, I might be able to answer them with my ever reaching knowledge and experience of working fast food for the past four months lmao
