My new opinion on gruvia
Ok,my opinion on this ship has changed considerably.
First of all,I just want to say that this ship could've became something great. When they first met Juvia was a mysterious person, and we didn't know about Gray's past or history. Now that we know about both of their histories,I felt like with their past(s) they could've helped each other in a way.
Juvia, when she was a child, had no one.Everywhere she went, rain followed her, driving everyone away.To make up for that,as we may or may not know, made dolls to fill up that void of loneliness.Juvia later joins Phantom Lord, blocking out her emotions as the rain continued to follow her.
Gray, also when he was a child, lost literally his whole family and friends when he was young. Then when he thought he finally found some sort of happiness,it is taken away but what he would consider one of his worst enemies–the demon that killed his family–.He went after the demon, causing the death of his mentor, and prompting the hatred for him by what he considered a friend and brother. He joins fairy tail, locking his emotions up,and trying to salvage what little happiness he has left.
All of this happened before the pair has met,and now that the Phantom Lord arc has come around,we finally see these two meet.
Now this ship could've developed greatly with the base it had.Gray, attempting to save his comrade, runs into Juvia. They battle, and when their powers clash, for the first time (in what probably is forever) in juvia's life, she sees the sky,she sees the sunlight. After that, her and gray have that little moment, and she lets him go.
Now with this,it could've gone many ways.1)Juvia opens up to him more, and helps him get out of his shell.2)Gray tries to talk to her more,as she only talks to Gajeel (because she's the only one he knows),and then she slowly comes out of her shell. And many more ways this could've gone. But instead Mashima made this a poorly developed ship in all honesty.
Juvia,to keep it in a way you can all understand, has an obsession with Gray.It has gone so far that you cannot cover this up with "Oh but in the end,Gray got Juvia to be more happy!" Or "Juvia and Gray obviously love each other."In my honest opinion,it does not seem that way in the slightest.
Juvia follows Gray around, basically stalking him, even when Gray makes it clear that he does not want her around him.Ever time we see Juvia in her home, all you see is Gray dolls and things with Gray's face on them. This is not good at all. This shows that she has a fixation for him that is really unhealthy.
As shown in the Alvarez arc,Gray was living on his own, until Juvia came.As he explained it "She just came, and wouldn't leave."His words.Straight from the manga. And when he went undercover, she became so lonely that it started raining and wouldn't stop. She even walked around in the rain, risking hypothermia(a danger of your body shutting down from low body temperature). She could've died, from being too worried for someone who,at that time, seemed like he could care less about her (which I kind of think was slightly his true feelings toward her).
Yes,there were times where he saved her,but I feel like he would do this for any of his friends and family. If anything I would think they would be better off as friends instead of lovers. And I only think this because of the way this ship is portrayed.
And another thing is that even though Gajeel and Juvia were in the same guild together, meaning they should show some sort of acknowledgement towards one another, they don't.Juvia's whole purpose became about Gray, and Gajeel's whole purpose became about Levy.
And there were many instances where Juvia stalks gray.On that one mission (I think where Lucy got Virgo) they were having a pillow fight, and out of no where, she appears behind a wall, and watches gray.
In the Tower of Heaven arc, when they finally arrive at the ToH,Juvia –again– appears out of no where.Yes she helps them, but then again, why was she there in the first place? It was a mission for team Natsu, and Juvia was (and still isn't) apart of team Natsu.
And I think this is something available in the anime, but Juvia bought some potion to a I quote "Make Gray fall in love with her."Now I don't know about you,but forcing someone to love you is not a healthy relationship. Now,she didn't ask what was in the potion, she didn't do her research, she just bought it and tried to use it on gray.In a twist,it ended up effecting the whole guild, making everyone attack their rivals.I know it was used as comedy relief, but many bonds could've been broken if they took it seriously. And Juvia didn't even care! She even did it twice!
And it may sound like I'm blaming it all on Juvia, but in some aspect,Gray is at fault too.He didn't address the fact that she keeps following him.He didn't try to explain to her why she should tone it down a bit.He didn't tell her to stop.He just let it continue and ultimately get worse. He let this (seemingly) mentally ill girl continue what she's doing.
I think Juvia,in all honesty, has a mental issue now, because no matter how many times you would tell her no,doesn't listen and her obsession grows more and more. And she accuses Lucy and any other girl who gets close to Gray of being a "Love Rival" and basically trying to kill them if they even look at him,no matter how close she is to the person she considers a "rival".Now I don't know about you.but that isn't good.Attacking your friends for sometimes no reason at all.Just even talking to gray makes Juvia angry, and I don't know if gray should be with someone like that.At the same time I don't think Juvia should be with someone like Gray –a person who doesn't show any type of care for her at all–.
And Juvia suddenly adopting his stripping habit. What in the world is with that? That's not healthy,or normal.Gray shouldn't be doing this in the first place, but at least with him he had a reason. With Juvia she just started stripping for no reason. In real life, you can go to jail for that. It's not cool at all.
And everyone in the guild doesn't address this situation at all, they just let Juvia stalk him, when Gray shows no signs of love affection towards her.He has some feelings for her,but I don't think he loves her.Juvia's mind can honestly be destroyed by this obsession, and Gray can honestly become paranoid because of her, both interfering with their work.I just don't understand how people just let this stand by when there's so many things wrong with this ship.
Well that's all folks.Enjoy my new opinion.
