Chapter Twenty ☆
The bus ride to the scene of the battle was pretty uneventful. Momo sat next to Uraraka, and the two listened to music on the way there. Momo's heart raced every time she thought about the upcoming battle.
Todoroki was sitting next to Midoriya near the back of the bus. He was sitting closest to the window, his chin resting in his palm as he gazed at the city flying by him. Momo cast a glance towards his direction but he was too distracted to notice her.
Aizawa had the bus stop a few blocks away from the actual battle so they could use the element of surprise. He stood up at the front of the bus and turned to all of his students.
"Okay, I'm going to be very clear with all of you," he started, adjusting the scarf around his neck. "If any of you try to sprint straight towards the villains like a group of idiots, I'll expel you on the spot." his voice was stern and the whole class nodded, even Bakugou.
"I think I should split you guys up into partners," their lethargic teacher continued. "It'd be best for you guys to watch each other's backs. You should work as a team with each other. This is in no way a competition." he cast a glance at Bakugou before continuing. "I'm going to read out the partners and I want all of you to step off the bus with them,"
"Uraraka and Midoriya,"
"Todoroki and Kaminari,"
"Kirishima and Sero,"
"Yaoyorozu and Bakugou,"
Momo felt like she had just gotten hit in the stomach after Aizawa read off the names.
Bakugou's a reckless ass. She thought bitterly, standing up and following her partner off the bus. The mask covering his red eyes failed to hide the frustration flashing in them when he realized who is partner was. Great, we both hate each other.
As the students of class 1-A started exiting the bus, Momo found Shouto standing near the back of the group. Kirishima had moved to joke around with Kaminari and Sero, leaving him alone. He was gazing past his fellow students with narrow and scornful eyes. Before Momo had a chance to ask him why he was so upset, she realized what he was looking at.
Endeavor was striding towards them, his natural annoyed expression plastered on his face. The flames that were surrounding his face and shoulders crackled and sparks were flying up around him. He looked even more pissed off than usual.
Aizawa was waiting for the other Pro Hero, and when Endeavor joined him, he turned towards his class. "We're going to try and use the element of surprise to join the battle," he told them. "I want everybody to find a good hiding spot and wait for Endeavor and me to give the signal for when it's time to fight."
A purple hand rose from the crowd, and Aizawa narrowed his eyes as he realized that Mineta had a question. "What is it?" he asked almost bitterly.
"What's the signal?" Mineta asked. The whole class rolled their eyes, and Endeavor sent a judgmental glare at the grape.
"I was getting to that..." Aizawa sighed. "Anyway, the villains are waiting in a building that's just one hit away from collapsing. Endeavor and I are going to be waiting on a roof one building over. The plan is for him to use one of his moves called Jet Burn. It's going to send a blast of fire at the building, hopefully enough for part of it to collapse so that the villains can be drawn out," he gestured to the hero beside him, letting him speak.
Endeavor crossed his arms and let out a short breath. "Jet Burn is a difficult move for me to execute." his eyes flickered over to Shouto for a quick moment, and his son turned his head away immediately. "The flames will be so hot that I'll weaken myself. I won't be able to fight well for a little while." Momo felt her heart stop when his eyes landed on her, cold and malicious. "So don't screw this up for Aizawa, because I won't be able to step in."
Mineta raised his hand again. "Why can't Todoroki use his flames to knock down the building? Then you'd still be able to fight."
The flames surrounding Endeavor heated up significantly to the point where some students had to back away. He looked like he was ready to strangle Mineta, and Momo felt Todoroki's left side grow hotter and hotter with rage.
"Listen," Endeavor snarled. "Imagine how much damage Jet Burn would cause Shouto if it weakens me? My son is still learning so I'm not going to have him waste all of his strength on one move." Somebody in the crowd scoffed, and Momo thought that it might have been Bakugou.
Shouto rolled his eyes, muttering something Momo couldn't hear. Endeavor caught this and watched his son for a moment before turning his attention back to Aizawa.
"I don't want anybody wasting time, alright? Do not let your guard down, ever. If you're injured, find somewhere safe and see if you can get Endeavor's attention to come to help you." the class looked apprehensive at the last comment. "Everybody ready?"
As the class cheered, Momo held out her wrist and took a deep breath. A small steel dagger started to form out of her skin, and she grabbed it quickly before all the students started walking to the battlefield.
Bakugou had dropped behind to walk beside her and he cast a resentful glance in her direction. "Don't get in my way and don't get me in trouble, alright?" he mumbled. Momo glared at him and gripped the dagger tighter.
"Shut up," she hissed back. Bakugou clenched his fists in anger and looked ready to pummel Momo, but Aizawa stared over his shoulder at him and sent him a warning glare.

By the time they had gotten to the battlefield, everybody in the class to find a hiding spot. All of the villains were supposedly waiting inside, and damage had already been done around the building. Cars were flipped, broken glass lay scattered around the ground, and flames were dancing around burned pieces of wood. Bakugou and Momo were crouched down behind a piece of concrete that had been pulled up from the ground.
As Endeavor and Aizawa were making their way to the top of the building next to them, Momo saw Shouto kneeling behind a flipped car. He was sitting with his back against it, holding his left hand and gazing at his palm. He looked conflicted, closing and opening his hand a few times.
Momo stayed silent and let out a sigh. Bakugou was sitting down and holding a piece of rock in his hand, tossing it up and catching it. He glanced to the side at Momo and saw her standing away from him. She was forming a large metal shield out of her stomach.
When Momo turned back to Bakugou, she held the shield in her hand and moved it back and forth a few times. It was strong enough to protect her from most things, particularly flames. Her dagger was in her other hand and she kneeled back down, waiting for the signal.
"Don't get yourself killed," Bakugou warned her. "Or else your boyfriend's gonna freeze my dick off."
Momo felt her face grow red, but she glared at the blonde beside her. "Be quiet," she growled.
She had noticed that Endeavor and Aizawa had finally reached the top of the building. Aizawa said a few words to Endeavor with a look of warning on his face, and the flame hero proceeded to roll his eyes. He took a few steps back and held out his fist. A rolling white ball of flame started to form, and the heat of the flames caused Aizawa's hair to raise slightly. Shouto was gazing at his father with a look of distaste on his face.
The air seemed still as Endeavor let out a yell that rumbled throughout the battlefield. He sprinted forward and leaped off of the roof towards the collapsing building, his fist outstretched. Momo's eyes widened as he practically threw the ball of fire at the entrance of the building. The flames caused the wind to pick up and roar in Momo's ears. She could feel the heat on her face as flames exploded out of Endeavor's fist and engulfed the structure. The walls of it started to crack and tumble toward the flame hero. He had practically fallen to his knees from the strength of Jet Burn and staggered to his feet, moving away from the debris that was one foot away from completely crushing him.
Aizawa nodded to all of his students, and the battle began. Momo felt her breath get caught in her throat as she leaped over a piece of concrete and charged forward beside Bakugou, her dagger and shield in hand.
Smoke had started to erupt from the collapsing stone. Momo could see a few villains emerging slowly from the smoke. They were prepared. Definitely prepared. Momo noticed that most of the villains had what looked like clones made of themselves. A girl with blonde hair in space buns and pigtails rushed out from the smoke, a sadistic smile on her face. She had targeted Momo and was racing towards her, laughing.
"Hi, there!" she cheered joyfully. she had a syringe in her grip had thrown it towards Momo. It shot forward and nearly stabbed into her arm before Momo stepped to the side and bashed her shield into the tool. It flew backward and nearly hit the girl before she ducked out of the away, laughing.
"Oh, this is gonna be fun!" her voice practically shook with excitement as she unsheathed two small daggers and started towards Momo again. The smoke obscured Momo's vision and she just narrowly missed her thigh being cut open before she spun around and blocked it with her shield.
I can't let her get close. Momo thought, trying to dodge another shot from the villain. She glanced around for a few moments and realized that she could barely see her classmates. The smoke caused her eyes to burn and she shook her head, trying to think.
That was when Momo realized what she needed. She took a deep breath and threw her dagger into the smoke, praying it didn't hit any of her classmates. After she dropped her weapon she quickly started to form a spear out of her thigh. The villain continued to try and go after her and all Momo could do was try and block with her shield.
As soon as the spear was formed, Momo threw her shield onto the ground and grabbed it with two hands. It would give her distance between her and the villain while also letting her attack. She turned around in the smoke for a few moments before the girl had appeared again. She was wearing a green machine on her back that had tubes attached to it. The girl's eyes lit up as flames appeared out of nowhere. Momo sprinted forward towards the villain praying that her plan would work. For a split second the girl looked confused. At the last second, Momo ran her and dropped the spear to the girl's knees, tripping her. Her plan had worked and the knees girls had buckled, but Momo hadn't seen a metal rod that was sticking out from a piece of concrete.
Momo's ankle had hit the rod and she fell forward. A sudden pain shot through Momo's leg and she had to hold back a yelp as she realized that she had sliced her calf open on a piece of glass. Blood began to pool down around her ankle, and she saw the villain in front of her spring back up to her feet.
Shit. Momo scrambled up to her feet and had forgotten about her spear as she tried to flee. Her leg gave out on her every time she tried to take a step and running was practically impossible. Before the villain could catch up with her, Momo heard an explosion sound in her ears. Bakugou had sent the villain flying from Momo, his hand outstretched with an angry expression on his face.
"GO!" he barked at her, not failing to see the blood gushing down her leg. Momo muttered a silent thank you to the explosive boy before she turned and rushed away from the battlefield. She ran back to the piece of concrete she had used as cover and kneeled down, staring at her leg.
The cut ran from right below her knee to her ankle, and blood oozed out from it onto the stone beneath her. She let out a hiss of pain as she stretched out her leg and let a roll of bandages appear out of her forearm. Momo tried to ignore the sound of her screaming classmates as she quickly wrapped up her wound, her hands shaking from a mix of shock and adrenaline. Almost immediately, blood had started to soak through her wraps and run down her leg again. She let out a deep breath and leaned her head back against the concrete, closing her eyes.
I can do this. She told herself. I can do this. I just need a minute, but I can do this.
After giving herself a mini pep talk, Momo used the concrete to push herself to her feet. She realized that the smoke had died down a little and her mind quickly filled with the sounds of many quirks all being used at the same time.
I can do this.
