Chapter Seven
Katy didn't show up in the woods today. She normally does. Maybe she's still sleeping or busy. I miss her though. I hope she's doing alright and nothing bad happened to her. This wasn't like her to not come to the woods. I believe something happened to her and I'm getting worried. Merla tried to stay calm and walked to the waterfall deeper in the woods. As she sat there taking a deep breath she lay against the rock behind her.
Merla saw a frog hopping past her and she smiled. She looked in the clear blue water and there were different colored fish and tadpoles. They were so cute and friendly as long as you were careful. Merla put her ghostly hand in the water and remembered what water used to feel like. As she thought about it she could feel the cold water on hand as it made her laugh.
It was the afternoon and Merla walked back to the old tree log. Still no Katy. Merla sat on the log and then lay on her side on the log. Merla felt upset and worried about Katy. "What if something bad happened? If something did I wouldn't still be on earth. I would be with my daughter again." Merla thought and had doubts about Katy being hurt. Merla remembered Katy's illness and she didn't look too well herself. When Katy hugged Merla she saw what stage of her illness she was in. At the time she was on stage 2. "Is it possible that she ended up on stage three of her illness?" Merla thought again.
Merla knew Katy was very ill but there was no possible way she could to stage three so fast right? Merla's head was filled with questions and doubts that she couldn't think straight with. This was madness and Merla had to deal with the question left unanswered. Till Katy came back she would ask her politely and make sure she was safe and alright. After all, Katy was Merla's daughter. Merla need to know her baby girl was safe and unhurt.
The Sunset and Merla were still laying on the old tree log. As she flipped to her back she hear sirens. Merla quickly got up and ran out of the woods it was an ambulance and they were caring someone out of the house. Merla walked behind a lit post and it was Katy. She was getting in an ambulance and then it drove off. Merla's heart dropped in her chest. She couldn't believe what she saw. Her daughter was taken to the hospital. What happened to her? Is Katy going to be alright? Merla ran back to the woods and sat on the old log. Her face was in horror and worriedness. Merla was scared and worried for her daughter. She hoped she was going to be alright. She never got to say goodbye just like before.
Merla lay on her back and looked up at the stars. Merla couldn't bare to have her child again. She couldn't forgive herself if she died. The guilt of not saying goodbye to her daughter the first time was enough. But a second time that would break her. She could look at her daughter the same without crying.
"Please be safe Katy," Merla whispered to herself.
"Don't die on me yet darling," Merla sobbed.
"My little moon drop. Stay safe," Merla added giving a soft smile.
Merla's long hair hit the ground. She didn't care. Merla saw how big Katy had grown. She was beautiful just like herself. Her blue eyes and long black hair. Merla wouldn't move from the log. She didn't feel like moving and going to the waterfall. She had no reason to anymore. She wanted to see her daughter again physically. Merla waited for her daughter to come back to see her.
Merla felt empty without her daughter around and she had to deal with this for 13 years so far. Almost 14 years. Merla took a deep breath and stayed calm and turned on her side and fell asleep on the old tree log. The good thing about being a spirit is that bugs can go through her and won't be a problem.
Merla fell asleep to the sound of birds she said one last thing before she passed out.
"I won't give up on you Katy," Merla whispered.
