Chapter Four

The golden sun rose and Jess went to wake up Katy. As she opened her door she hears Katy say someone's name. "Merla" Who's Merla? Jess was confused and woke Katy up. She told her food was ready and to come to eat when she was ready. Katy woke up and took her pills and felt ill. Katy couldn't walk straight and when she tried she would run into a wall or almost trip over air. James rushed to Katy and helped her walk to the table. She was getting weaker by the minute and this made Jame and Jess's hearts shatter.

After Katy finished her food James took her back to the hospital. He want to see if there was something they could do. I was worried about his daughter and if something were to happen at any point. He wouldn't forgive himself. The parent's guilt would stick with him for years and years. James tried to stay calm and once they got to the hospital they walked inside. The nurses took Katy to the room and they waited for the doctor to come and talk with him.

The nurses came back and they had to put Katy to sleep so they could do a scan. James had a tear roll down his face with fear with an unpleasant feeling. James had to stay in the room till the scan was finished. He waited for about ten minutes and then the doctor came with some notes about his daughter.

"Mr. James right?" Doctor Mike asked.

"Yes, that's me," James replied shaking his hand.

"We scanned Katy and her lung cancer is getting worse. Although the medication has slowed down the process for now. However, it's a matter of time before she could get worse than she is or she could die without anyone knowing. With that being said have her keep taking the pills and that should slow that down till two weeks before her next check-in." Doctor Mike informed James.

"I understand. What about her walking? Is there anything that can help her walk somewhat normal?" James asked as his voice shrunk.

"She will be given crutches to help her walk. However, there will be some things were a parent is going to have to help her with. Examples like showering, putting clothes on, etc," Doctor Mike mentioned.

James signed and nodded. The nurses opened the door and Katy walked inside the room. The nurses told Mike that they told Katy how she need to use crutches to help with her walking. Mike nodded and Katy made her way to her father and tear filled her eyes.

"Dad...What's wrong with me?" Katy asked as tears rolled down her face.

"Sweetheart... You are very ill and it's causing your body to work normally. But we're going to get through this. I promise," James reinsured Katy as he whipped her tears.

"I won't die, right Dad," Katy whispered with a streak in her voice.

"You're not going to die," James said as he hugged her.

"You both are free to go now," Doctor Mike mentioned.

They both made their way back to the car and drove home. Once they got home the fresh breeze felt amazing. Katy walked to her mom and was still crying in pain. James told Jess everything that happened and Jess's heart dropped.

Katy was only going to get worse over time but slower and not right away. As long she keeps taking her medication. Jess cuddled her daughter and kissed her head. James left and Jess turned on the TV. Jess and Katy decided to watch a movie. James came back and brought the food into the living room. As they all ate together in the living room.

James and Jess tried to stay positive in the matter that was going on with Katy. They watched movies and play games together. Katy dared her father to dance like a duck and made her laugh. Jess grabbed her phone a record it while laughing. This was something that felt normal without worrying about life problems. This was a way to clear their minds. Katy smiled and yawned. Feeling tired she fell asleep on the couch next to her mother.

Jess smiled and James cleaned up the table and put the games away. James was red as a rose. He wouldn't look at himself the same again knowing his wife recorded him dancing like a chicken with its head cut off. "Although things in life didn't go as planned. Mean like why would it?" James thought in his head. The silver moon raised and filled the night sky with light.
