❥PROLOGUE
◇✧◇
The sound of the rain could be heard along with the chaos that the crowd of people had created.
It was the day of selection for the Military services, there were multiple queues formed in order to give the short interviews before the graduates went inside. The highly secured area was filled with people that expressed different emotions, some were happy because they got selected. Some were sad since they didn't make it. And on the other hand was the girl that stood in the end of the queue. It was her turn to give her interview now, and her anxiety was killing her from the inside.
Being insecure about every little detail in everything was her only fault. Whether it was the way she dressed, her height or the way she looked. She wasn't confident about anything. She always found herself unfitting with her surroundings and people. And it was only because no one acknowledged her presence throughout her highschool and college years.
While the other students talked, laughed, had fun together. She would sit at an empty table all by herself with the little diary she had. And that was the only thing that accompanied her for a long time. Yet she was still happy with it. Because it was trustable, since it wouldn't betray her and reveal the entirety of her secrets.
"Next!" - Called out the Military Recruiter in a loud voice.
And that made her anxiety level go up again. It was her turn to give the interview. Although she prepared for a week straight, she felt like nothing was going to come out of her mouth as planned.
Hesitantly, she took a few steps and was now standing in front of the well dressed man who gave her a weird look. Her eyebrow got raised by itself as she started to wonder why he looked at her like that, was it the way she looked? Or the way she was dressed? She wasn't sure.
"Sit." - His command was short yet cold. Nonetheless, she did as he said and sat down in the chair.
"Introduce yourself." - He said as she nodded before speaking.
"..My name is Kim Jennie. I am 22 years old and I graduated from Eonju University." - The tension that raised in his presence had her tone quietening, though no further words came out of her now sealed mouth as she cursed herself mentally for being anxious.
"Tell me about your family." - Said the interviewer as her heartbeat calmed down a little. Thinking maybe a deep breathe will help her, she inhaled heavily before speaking again.
"I am an only child. My dad was a Military officer, he passed away while fighting for our country. I haven't seen my mom in 7 years, so I don't know anything about her." - Her reply took the man by surprise. She maintained a straight face while he raised his eyebrows before speaking again.
"Sorry to hear that. What's your father's name?" - He asked being curious.
"Kim Daehyun." - He smiled and nodded before speaking again, she was confused. He was cold before then why did he smile now?
"Alright. What are your weaknesses?" - He asked, continuing the interview.
"My only weakness was my father. Since he's not here anymore, I don't have any.. In my opinion." - The recruiter hummed in response writing her answers down while she waited for him to continue.
"Do you have any medical issues?" - She shook her head, she didn't have any illness or medical issue.
"I don't." - said Jennie.
"That's all. You can come again two days later to give the test. Once you pass you'll be sent to our training headquarters the very next day. Ah and your blood, eyesight and hearing will be examined inside so please proceed." - He extended his hand towards her as he handed her the pass to enter the examining room.
"Thank you." - Jennie stood up and did a deep bow before turning around as she walked towards the gate, where everyone was entering to get examined.
She was excited yet a little sad that she couldn't share the news of her selection with someone. Although she hadn't completely passed, the thoughts of being in the Military started circling her mind already. After all, she did take after her dad's natural character and kindness.
Jennie never told anyone who her father was. Even in highschool no one knew, and she knew if she told them they wouldn't treat her like an outcast. But no one wants to make friends on behalf of their dad, right? She wanted them to like her for who she was, and not for who her father was. And that was why she never minded being an outcast in front of everyone's eyes, because in the end, it's her father who loved her the most and taught her to never feel low. To never doubt herself about her power. That's why she wasn't always insecure about herself. She never was. Not until her only source of happiness, confidence and love left this world. She was left alone with her negative thoughts making things worse.
That wasn't all because years before her father's death, her mother had already left her husband and daughter for unknown reasons.
