Chapter 8: The Horse-Riding Village

This is an double update: There is one more chapter after this.

<><><>

The walk started out pretty well.

No monsters attacked us for two reasons- Me, and the fact that it's daytime.

We trudged through the woods until a little clearing, where we realized it was almost sundown, and we hastily made camp.

Using some dirt blocks, we created a two block high wall to surround us from any arrows shot from a skeleton. We built a small fire in the middle and laid down our beds.

We sat there in silence for a bit, and I tried to think of something to say to break the silence. "So" I cleared my throat. "We've only known, or, better yet, I've only known you guys for a week, and I barely know you guys."

"And we barely know you." Kisha looked up from drawing in the dirt with a stick she picked up.

"That is true." I admitted, "We should really get to know each other more if we're going to stick together more often."

Silence.

"Alright, then we can start by telling me why no one came to you four when we picked the squads. You guys are great and high ranking."

"Well..." Theo trailed off, nervously glancing at the rest. "I guess you stuck with us for over two weeks, I guess you should know."

Kisha gave him a slight shove. "You're making it sound like we murdered someone or something. The truth it, we aren't exactly popular in the school, and the town doesn't think much about us, unlike Jayden and his friends."

"The little swine? What about him?" I rose my eyebrows playfully.

She cracked a smile.

"Jayden's dad pretty much runs the town, and once ran a election against my dad. He won, but by a margin, and he makes sure to never let me live it down." Kisha looked back down at her picture, and scribbled on it. "And because these three idiots are my friends, they naturally became their target too"

Ethan's face was serious for once. "Hey hey, don't be s hard on yourself. Emma hates me too, for a whole different reason. Well, I might have gotten her brother expelled from the school so..."

"Hey! He deserved it!" Matthew  protested. "He nearly killed Alicia!"

"Who?" I asked, but he waved my question off.

"What about you two?" I asked

"Nothing really, the third goon of his gang joined recently, but because we defended these two, we became targets as well. But not entirely their fault." Theo replied. "We had some run-ins with them."

I was a little loss for words. In the books, they displayed the overworld as a perfect place, who knew rivalties such as this as this age existed?

"What about you Amythest?" Theo leaned toward me. "What about you?"

I shrugged. "Because of my father, everyon treated me like royalty. But there was definatly some mutters of disapproval behinf my back. I wish they would have just said It to my face so I can change." I looked up from my hands, "And of course, there's my father, forbbiding me to get involved in anything- keeping me away from meetings, plans, and he has the nerve to think giving  me a companion to teach me how to fight and to keep me comapany was enough." I told the truth, before I could stop myself.

It was silent for a bit.

"Who's taking the first watch?" I asked. To break the silence.

*The next afternoon*
"Guys! Over there!" Kisha shouted, pointing to a clearing. A small village made of wood filled the clearing, villager children was doing their chores and the adults where going along with their usual jobs.

"Should we restock on supplies? Just in case?" Matthew wondered, and I shook my head.

"No need. We need to save up enough for the train ride back."

I headed to the nearest villager and asked where the stables where. I planned to ride the horses to the mansion, and keep them on the train and give them back.

"Hello." I began when I got there. "Here to rent horses."

The villager looked up, and nodded.
He lead me through rows and rows of stalls. Occasionally I'll see a child holding a bucket or some carrots hurring to do whatever they need to do.

"Hwere" the villager replied. "Hwrse 5 nwggets. Armour depwends"

I cringed. The accent was already driving me nuts.

After a while of arguing, I lead the horses out, searching for the others.

Kisha was lying on the grass, playing with a blade of grass, Ethan listening to music, Theo and Matthew in a discussion with a lot of waving and laughter.

All sat up when they saw me with the horses, and scrambled to get up. I smirked and hopped on the nearest horse- a beautiful light brown one with a black mane. "Comon! Get on! No time to waste!" I smiled.
