The giant school has too many twist and turns, the very reason why I was late to the next class, and to my next duel.
When I got there, Jayden was already waiting, standing there with a wooden sword and a leather chest plate. He threw one to me and waited very impatiently as I put it on.
"Now, the rules. You touch me with the sword three times anywhere, and you win. Do the same to me, and you win. But of course, It won't get to that" He explained and gripped his sword. "Are you ready?"
"When you are," I said back. A small crowd has gathered to watch us. I grinned, perfect, more people to watch his downfall.
He ran at me and swung his sword, I blocked it, no sweat. I feinted and he fell for it- an elementary mistake he shouldn't have made- and I whacked his side with the flat of my blade.
"That's one" I smiled, and he growled.
In fury, swung at me again, which I blocked. I have to admit it, he was fast- that was it, and I was faster. Our blades crossed in a blur, and finally, I disarmed him and easily touched his side. He was breathing heavily, and I was standing up straight- conserving my energy.
After all, there is a reason why im this good- I was taught by one of the best sword fighters in the nether- besides my father, of course. This boy was nothing.
"So? What happened to the confidence you had just a while ago?" I asked him innocently.
"I was just going easy on you. Didn't think you were this good." He replied.
"If it's a rematch you want, I've got all day to bruise your ego." I smiled. "Don't underestimate your opponent, Jayden, I thought you'll be smart enough to know that."
He gave me a glare and picked up his sword again. "Lets have a rematch, and no playing around now, miss."
He ran at me again, I sidestepped, catching him off guard, and tapped him with my sword.
"One." I smiled sweetly, he growled.
I slashed my sword, he dodged it, I bent down and swung my sword from underneath him, and he tripped over his own feet. A roar of laughter filled the room, and his face turned red.
"Flee! Before you get embarrassed even more!" I smirked, and sure enough, he got up and walked away. I had several people complimenting me on my skills, but of course, there were people who blamed it on luck.
"Beginners luck" They said, "No way she would have beaten Jayden like that."
I let them talk, I was used to this.
"So! Is this the little lady who put Jayden to shame?" The instructor came up to me and patted me in the back. "Well done!"
"It was nothing," I replied truthfully.
"Well if you say so. You know there is the army recruiting in two days, right?"
"Yes. I'm fully aware."
"Well, if you take part in it, I'll say you'll land yourself a role as junior commander, try it out. Also, since you're already that good, try something else besides a sword." He nodded, and I mentally smiled. There isn't anything that I wasn't good at.
I picked up a bow and shot arrows toward the target for the rest of the period.
The entire class was talking about my simple victory as Jayden and his friends sulked in the corner.
I smiled to myself.
the three fundamental rules of a duel, Withy liked to call it.
First, be aware of your surroundings and every move your opponent is doing. The one second you forget to pay attention is very well the second that you die.
Second, put all emotions to the side and allow your body to move freely without any interruptions and distractions away. This is includes pride, fear, and anger.
Third, and the most important of all,
Let the wind spread your victories, they mean much more than your own mouth. Both to your reputation, and the opponent's shameful defeat.
