Chapter Six: Stop Trembling
Jiyoung could see the bead of sweat dripping down Hyun's face as he huffed out. She didn't sigh but tried to control her breathing and make the least amount of noise. The two started walking, Jiyoung trailing behind Hyun who took the lead. For a moment she got distracted by observing the boy. He was barely younger than her, with dark colored sweats on, and messy black hair. He was extremely disheveled, no doubt from the monsters that were in the way. Jiyoung could only guess how bad she looked. Yet looks didn't seem to matter so much as of now. She kept looking behind her. What if something was there? The thought of that kept circling in the back of her mind. They could be anywhere.
Now was not the time to be scared though. That would be something her father would tell her. It was useless to be scared.
Hyun walks up to one of the elevators, pressing the button multiple times. Neither worked. Jiyoung shakes her head without any words to Hyun who just nods in response. Elevators weren't going to be an option if they wanted to get to 1210. Jiyoung grimaces at the boy as they both turn their heads to the direction of the staircase. Of course, Jiyoung thought.
She started walking forward with her gun lowered down, ready to pick it up and shoot at any moment. There was no way there were no monsters around. After what she heard and saw, something was around them and was planning an attack.
BEEP. The thought was ripped from her mind. Shit, was the word that came to her mind.
BEEP. BEEP. BEEEEEEEP.
Jiyoung looks back at Hyun, her eyes widening just as his did. What would they do? The stomping grows closer, the monster's footsteps increasing in sound. Hyun grabs Jiyoung by the shoulder and shoves her down into a crouch with him as he prepares his weapon.
Jiyoung's eyes widen further as she looks at him incredulously. They couldn't face that thing. That wasn't what Dusik said to do, and for once since she moved out, she would take someone's advice.
Jiyoung looks behind them, her eyes landing on the elevator. It was risky, but it was clear for them. She grabs a handful of Hyun's sweatshirt, pulling him up silently as they make it inside one of the elevators. She puts a finger to her lips as she crouches in front of him. With his back against the wall, Hyun keeps his weapon up straight and his eyes towards the opening of the elevator.
The stomps grow louder and soon they were right next to them. The monster comes into view, half of its head missing. Its decaying body moving forward without a purpose. The monster pauses. Oh god it can tell, Jiyoung thought to herself as she finds herself grabbing a hold of the boy in front of her, her grip tightening around his. Right in front of her was the monster just standing in silence. She could feel the trembling from Hyun and she shakes her head.
"Stop trembling," she mouths to him. When he continues she takes a gulp and thinks back.
"Stop trembling," her father told her when she was eight years old. He stood in front of her as the banging on the door grew louder. "Come on, be a brave girl for your mother. I'll be back soon." Her brother was so small, he couldn't remember the traumatizing memories she couldn't simply forget.
The door bursts open with a loud thud making the little girl scream. It was only one of the first times he was arrested by the police, she was never used to the violence until she grew older. Numerous officers rush in, one of them holding her father back and cuffing him. She watched from the doorway as her mother cried for them to not take her father away. Of course they did not listen to the cries of a child and her mother over a criminal.
Yet this was the present. The present, Jiyoung thought, is more important. Her past and her father isn't important to her right now.
"I... ca...n't.. I.. c...an't.... se..e......," it repeats while it stands still. Jiyoung blinks from her thoughts as she holds on tighter to Hyun. She tries to make him look her in the eyes but he keeps shaking.
Huff. Jiyoung's eyes widen as she whips her head towards the elevator opening, the creature rushing forward without a sound and coming face to face with the teens. The numbing realization hits her that this things hearing was that strong that even a huff of air was your undoing.
"Fo...und... you..."
Shit. She couldn't die, not like this. Jiyoung felt frozen in her spot as Hyun managed to shakily turn his head to the monster who was ready to strike.
