Hands tutorial..?
Ellooo everyone! First of all, I apologise for the inactivity xD this is probably gonna be the last chapter for this and the next month? Cuz my exams are coming out, but I just really wanted to share with you guys how I draw my realistic hands :D
(Just ignore the top left... aka the scary skeletal hand that looks like its crawling up from the dead xD Let's just say it did nOT go well at first when I tried a diff tutorial HAHA)
Interestingly, I noted the more practice I had, the better I became. You can actually notice the progress as your gaze makes its way down the page🤣
Here are some close-ups of the more recent ones:
Which one do y'all like the most? :P
I didn't show the middle row right one cuz the proportions are all off and they make the hand I referenced off of (aka my hand) look cHUNkY so welp :3
I learnt how to draw them from the tutorial I linked above, but I thought you guys might want a summary of my adapted hand tutorial? So I drew the last one specifically to show you guys how I do it:
1) First, references photos are always useful, whether you're a beginner or a pro. Don't try to pose one hand while drawing with the other, trust me it's a ton harder cuz your hand position will shift like every 10 seconds😂😂
2) Start be envisioning your hand in a glove, and draw out how that would look like to get your basic base out. Do take note: Draw with lighter strokes, cuz you'll have to draw over this later and you don't wanna have to mess and confuse it with the darker lines.
3) With your base down, try getting those simple blobs down too. So we get our basic proportions of the fingers and what positions they're place in. Don't worry, you don't need to get to accurate with details at this stage.
4) If the lines you made in the previous step are too dark, feel free to lightly dab it with an eraser to lighten the lines so you can draw over it clearer at this stage. However, make sure the lines are still slightly visible so you can reference to them while doing this step!! Which is, basically draw out the hand proportions more accurately (refer closely to your reference) and add in some details of those deeper, darker lines.
5) Now, add in the smallest and lightest details plus all the shading!! When shading, refer REALLY closely to your reference pic, so that you ensure the darker areas are darker than the lighter portions.
Anddddd you're done! Thanks for reading if you made it this far XDD
What do you guys think? Was this tutorial helpful to you? Please, let me know! ^=^
If you used my tutorial and posted your drawing on wattpad or instagram, feel free to tag me! I'd definitely check it out (and I'll be so freaking honoured HAHA)
Sorry if I'm really bad at explaining the steps, making a tutorial is totally new to me :PP anyway, lemme know what you guys think and errrr I guess that's all!
BY THE WAY, don't get to disheartened if you try following my tutorial and you don't feel statisfied with your results. A lot of the times, your preferable style of drawing and learning is just different (Annex A: Please refer back to my creepy skeletal hand), so you can always try to find a different tutorial out on Youtube.
Whenever in drawing, your worst enemy is most often yourself🤣 don't be too harsh on yourself, explore new methods and find one that suits you. Then, PRACTICEPRACTICEPRACTICE! You'd gradually improve, you'll see :D
Alright, thanks for coming to my Ted Talk. That's all, sayonara!👋
