Keese (Original Character)
I drew this character at four o'clock in the morning, help me.
I don't know, you guys, I might be getting better.
*The more important parts.
*Little bit of Backstory: This game, this character is part of a video game concept my brother and I have, is set in a time in the future when a significant portion of the biological life on Earth have undergone drastic mutations. People, animals, and plants would change to unnatural colors, and develop features that are not customary for their species, like plants with functioning eyes or a human with antenna. This is likely a result for humanity's carelessness with their products, and one other reason that can not be named because it reveals too much about the story.
It is not uncommon for these creatures, or properly named 'mutations', to display extraordinary abilities. As a response to these new, possibly dangerous, species, an unlikely alliance between the governments from around the world has developed to collect all these mutated specimens. To sort of quarantine them in a large expanse of land, with a tall and guarded wall surrounding it to protect the normal people outside.
*Character Backstory: The character here, his name is Keese. He's a species of moose that has mutated to appear more and more human through each passing generation.
This species was known as the Meese. The Meese, however, were hunted by the government for their wool (They have much softer and bunchier fur than regular moose) which have developed some properties that are very useful for the military.
Their wool have a sort of shapeshifting ability: you can basically disassemble several components and shape it into only very certain things depending on which component makes up most of the wool very rapidly. It's a lot more complicated than that, but that's the gist of it. Mostly used as camoflauge but it was also found to make weapons extraordinarily well.
Keese Keese is twelve years old, just barely out of the Meesling stage, as Meese don't mature until they are in their mid-thirties. He was part of the last underground Meese community that tried to evade the government and the Quarantine, living in the orphanage. Because of his brash and overbearing behavior, he was constantly being 'punished' to care for the 32 Meeslings of the orphanage, the babies, all of whom he grows extremely fond of.
Keese's community is discovered and infiltrated by the government soon, though, and to protect the Meeslings, he abandons everyone else and uses the large wool storage to disguise himself and the Meeslings as sheep-like creatures. When they are discovered, Keese manages to convince the government that he and the Meeslings were a mutated sheep species kept by the Meese as adorable pets. He and the Meeslings were sent to the Quarantine and the Meese species were announced extinct.
*Personality/Attitude: Keese is initially suspicious of anyone/anything new, cautious when it comes to the Meeslings. He simultaneously adores and is forever frustrated by the Meeslings. On his own though, he acts on impulse, generally anti-social, and is well-known for talking himself into irritation, sometimes he gets violent. His entire life basically revolves around the Meeslings, the damn mother hen. He does harbor some guilty feelings for abandoning the rest of the Meese, but he does not regret it.
It is not hard for him to warm up to others, though. One just has to be genuinely nice to him, as he was never used to affection or attention, and the Meeslings. Feed him and you're golden. Help take care of the Meeslings and he'll probably marry you.
*Abilities: His ability usually allows him to turn his wool into a lot of things with enough practice, but he particularly likes forming bubbles to keep track of the Meeslings. Because he is raising 32 children, he is very perceptive and efficient in his work, always somewhat alert of his immediate vicinity. Very quick reflexes unless he is preoccupied.
Appearance/Clothing: He is very short, just barely an inch over four feet. He is actually very thin, but his disguise makes him appear very round and floofy. He has brown fur and his wool is a very light beige. He has two antlers that both branch off into little nubs that make them look like cacti. Both his hands and feet are hooves. His disguise is made up of a big burgundy coat with a fluffy collar, black tights and black shoes. At home, he wears a white tank top, oversized navy shorts, and he walks around on grey socks.
Player Interaction: His relationship with both the female and nonbinary version of the Player is very rough, but he begrudgingly accepts the Player once it is obvious that they do not pose a threat to the Meeslings.
However, if the Player is male, then he will immediately connect with the Player and become uncharacteristically fond of him. It's up to the Player if this attitude is seen as attraction or just plain admiration.
He mostly guides the Player through the second Vicinity, a dense wooded forest with the occasional flowered fields here and there. He will then appear in future Vicinities, walking the Meeslings, with the excuse of keeping his eyes on the Player (hehehmaleplayerheh) giving tips of how to complete puzzles and vague advice on how to find easter eggs. Sometimes, if badgered enough, he will complete the puzzle for you, either cooperatively or frustrated with your incompetence, then boast about how easy the puzzle is.
Fun facts!:
-Keese's species are called 'Meese', because my brothers and I used to believe that's what the plural for 'moose' was. You know, like how the plural for 'goose' is 'geese'. Meese should be a word. It was almost called Mooxen, but that sounded like a name for a mutated cow species.
-It was my brother's idea to make Keese's relationship with the Player ambiguous.
-Keese's name rhyming with Meese was a complete coincidence, I swear! I had already named him that before his species was named, and it stuck!
-We already have the rough draft of Keese's battle theme.
That's it.
