Ch. 2 ~ Resurrection Blvd
Everyone gasped as the room filled with the unnatural glow. Angel and Spike along with Illyria got their weapons ready to attack. The glow subsided to reveal a very heavenly looking female. She smiled at Buffy and Willow, who quickly jumped in front of the two spooked vampires.
"No wait! Angel....Spike....it's alright." Buffy stammered with her arms out.
"Put your weapons down, it's The Goddess!" Willow said with a smile.
"The who now?" Spike asked skeptically.
"The Goddess. She's on our side." Buffy said.
"She's dope, y'all for real." Faith confirmed.
"Have you all been brainwashed? We've had a goddess that wanted to bring happiness to the world; her name was Jasmine. She was a horrid creature and she killed Cordy." Angel said not buying it.
"Ah yes, the ruler of the beast, you named her Jasmine." The Goddess said nodding her head.
"You know about her?" Gunn asked.
"I know all. It's because of me Angel is still here. Why? Who did you think returned you back to earth from the hell dimension Buffy sent you to after you lost your soul and threatened to end the world?" The Goddess smiled. There was a stunned silence as Angel lowered his sword.
"That wa-was you? I thought it was the Powers That Be?" Angel said as The Goddess laughed.
"They do my bidding. They are my messengers, you see. Buffy and a few other slayers have only been privy to my presence because of the wars they have won. Battling The First was when I decided I would finally show who I am to them. After all, it was my guardians that first forged the scythe she uses as a weapon. There must be balance in the universe; just like there is The First Evil, there also has to be a force of good. That would be me." The Goddess explained.
At this point, Angel and Spike put their swords down as they started to digest what they had just heard. It was a lot to take in but it also meant that there was no longer any guess work about what the all-powerful good looked like. The Senior Partners were still very invisible and probably pretty ugly looking but that didn't matter. They fought for the side of good. And winning this battle against the Senior Partners won them an audience with the highest being of all; The Goddess. But there was more, Angel realized; when Faith mentioned Resurrection Blvd and the warehouse standing on it, is when The Goddess appeared and said something about it being convenient.
"Seems Angel has gotten a hint about something I said. Other than meeting these champions, I have come to give a gift to you all. You deserve it; them really. Time to right the wrongs that were brought upon you all and your loved ones. I will start with taking your deceased up with me and giving them a proper burial and entrance to where they belong." She said cryptically before she waved a hand and the dead slayers started to glow and levitate. Then just like that, they disappeared.
"You will give their bodies back to their parents and take care of their souls?" Willow asked as The Goddess nodded with a soft kind smile.
"Now who are we missing?" She said and with a clap that sounded a little like thunder, Giles, Dawn, and Xander appeared out of thin air.
"Holy warehouse! You can give a fellow a heart attack that way!" Xander exclaimed clutching his hand over his heart.
"Buffy! You're alright!" Dawn ran into Buffy's arms as the two sisters hugged.
"Of course Dawn. As you can see, everyone is." Buffy said with a soft smile.
"But why am I here? And Xander? And Giles?" Dawn fired off question after question before noticing Spike and with a gasp running to him and hugging him. He awkwardly at first and then with much more affection hugged her back and smirked at Angel.
"Easy there niblet."
"Spike, you're alive! But how? Did Buffy know?" She asked turning back to her sister with an annoyed expression.
"Not now Dawn....look who's here." Buffy rolled her eyes and pointed toward The Goddess. Dawn's eyes grew wide and she quickly stopped talking. The Goddess just smiled at her.
"Wait a second; wasn't Giles supposed to be in England and Xander in Italy or something?" Spike asked confused.
"Well yes, quite right. The bases are spread out around the world. I am...er.....was in England training slayers there. Xander and Andrew were in Italy along with Buffy and Dawn up until about 8 months ago when Buffy and Dawn along with Willow moved back here or rather the base in the Mojave Desert." Giles explained.
"Right, Faith and Robin are in Boston; Kennedy is in Brazil, while Vi is in France. Oz is in Tibet where he decided to stay and live as he feels more at home there than anywhere else." Buffy explained with a shrug.
As the explanations and catching up was happening, no one noticed The Goddess waving her hand and making four glowing orb-like shapes appear side by side next to her. She didn't say anything but just watched the exchange. She knew which orb was going to reveal itself first. It was all based on conversation and sure enough Spike asked the question:
"Hey Red, what about you and that Kennedy bird? Weren't you two flying off into the sunset together?" Willow looked down and answered quietly.
"No....um.....it di-didn't work out with us. She wasn't my soul mate. We....it wasn't meant to be."
"Glad to hear that."
One of the orbs spoke in a too familiar a voice. Willow's and everyone else's head snapped up toward the orb that had spoken. It floated onto the floor and started to take corporeal shape.
"Wha--?" Willow's eyes grew wide and her mouth fell open as the orb became human and stopped glowing. No one could believe their eyes with what or who rather they were seeing. It was Tara.
"Will? It's me. Really." Tara said with tears in her eyes. No one moved a muscle as Tara took a step toward Willow and the others.
"Tara? Is it really you?" Dawn whispered through tears that had appeared in her eyes.
"Yes Dawnie, it's really me." Tara said with her arms outstretched. With a cry, Dawn ran into Tara's arms as she enveloped her in a hug. They hugged long and hard. Then Dawn turned to Willow who was watching the whole scene with a look of disbelief.
"Willow, it's Tara. It really is." Dawn nodded toward Willow as Tara's gaze shifted to Willow.
Willow had tears streaming down her face as she took some uneven steps towards Tara and then stumbled and fell as Tara caught her. Willow's sobs were loud as Tara cradled her on the warehouse floor, soothing her. There wasn't a dry eye in the place. Remembering what Willow went through when Warren shot Tara and how she went completely mental over her horrid loss. Now The Goddess was giving her the ultimate gift back. Willow wanted so much to thank The Goddess but she was holding on to Tara for dear life and wouldn't let go. She was crying with happiness this time. She had Tara back.
"Shh...sweetie. It's alright. I'm not going anywhere, never ever. I promise. Shhh." Tara soothed Willow as she looked up and met Buffy's tear filled eyes. They smiled at each other. Suddenly another orb spoke up as up to this time the other 3 were quiet.
"Is it my turn now?" This one said in another too familiar a voice as Xander's head snapped away from the scene on the floor.
"Anya?" He said stunned.
"Well duh, who else would it be? Welcome to Resurrection Blvd! Just resurrect us all already!" Anya finished as she became corporeal and ran into Xander's arms. Even now all this time later, Anya hadn't lost her forthrightness.
"That's why you brought us here, so you could resurrect our loved ones and we'd be here to reunite with them." Dawn said to The Goddess as it dawned on the rest of the group. The Goddess nodded and replied:
"Yes my dear Dawn but there are three people I couldn't resurrect for you, I am sorry. Your mom passed of an illness and is your guardian angel, she watches over you at all time. Also both Cordelia and Doyle have become Gods in their own right. So I couldn't return them back to you. But I am returning whomever I can."
"Then why am I here?" Giles asked cautiously as he looked from one orb to the other one. The Goddess just smiled and looked at the orb closest to her as it began to become corporeal and drift towards Giles.
"Because of me. Hello Rupert." The orb transformed into Jenny Calendar as just about everyone including Willow gasped.
She walked up to him and laid her hand on his cheek. She hadn't aged at all being the first from this group to die. They just stood there for what seemed like forever just gazing into each other's eyes. Finally they broke their gaze so she could hug Buffy and Xander. Even Faith let herself be hugged; for someone who doesn't show emotion much, she had the sniffles and Buffy ribbed her a bit in the arm with her elbow as they grinned at each other. Willow finally stopped sobbing long enough to get up off the floor along with Tarah and hug both Anya and Jenny. The Scoobies were complete but there was still one human-shaped orb left as well as a smaller one that The Goddess was holding so someone else was left; but who?
At this point The Goddess floated to the floor holding the smaller orb and approached Illyria. At the same time, the last human-shaped orb changed before their eyes to reveal none other than Wesley, the last to die before all hell came to earth. He didn't say anything except looked intently at the orb The Goddess was holding; she nodded. When she stopped in front of Illyria, the latter felt a threat and tried to fight The Goddess but was instantly immobilized.
"What are you going to do to me?" Illyria asked staring from Wesley to The Goddess.
"I'm just going to fix what you took is all."
The Goddess replied before she thrust the orb she was holding toward Illyria and as it was absorbed into her body, Illyria screamed in agony. Suddenly, a light shown from within Illyria and a separation happened. An explosion occurred and Illyria was blown to the left as someone else was blown to the right. She was shivering and naked as Buffy reacted first.
"Get blankets on her!"
She yelled as the other slayers who weren't injured or taking care of the injured sprang into action and covered the naked girl with the blankets that were covering the floor of the warehouse. That would have to do for now. As the others looked on in disbelief, Wesley walked slowly toward the girl lying under blankets now and bent down to her.
"Fred? Is that you?" He said softly. Fred opened her eyes lightly and gazed dazed at Wes.
"Wesley? My Wesley. Am I staying....this time?"
"Yes my darling, you are." He looked up at The Goddess to double check who nodded with a smile in confirmation.
The absolute shock of everything they had just been witnessed and experienced was not lost on anyone as Angel, Spike, and Gunn had to prop themselves against something. Angel all but fell to the ground. All of the resurrections touched him but it was Fred's that just stunned him into speechlessness.
"But I thought her soul was destroyed. Both Illyria and the doc said it. I can see why the damn doc would lie but why Illyria?" Everyone heard Gunn mutter.
"I....I...did not lie." Illyria was just getting her bearings to sit up. The Goddess shook her head and explained the real truth.
"Illyria didn't lie. She told the truth as she knew it. She just happened not to know the real truth. As for the Senior Partners, they probably thought it was the truth as well. And sometimes it is. Just happens that Fred did do what she said she would do; she was a hero and didn't let her soul be destroyed; she fought hard for it. When she died and Illyria took over, her soul took off out of her body and came to me which I took care of until the appropriate time which is now. She will be very weak and cold so you must warm her up and head back to your respective bases as soon as feasible. She needs time in a recovery area."
"What about me? You spared me but I am missing some pieces of what used to be." Illyria asked confused, acting as robotic as she did when she first came into form.
"I took everything of Fred's except the outer shell away from you, Illyria. You are bound in that shell. To replace the memories of her past and emotions, I returned some of your power as well as your ability to communicate with plants as I know that meant a lot to you. You get to exist but as you were without Fred's background. You will have to learn not to rely on Wesley anymore; ever." The Goddess said sternly then.
While Illyria was speaking to The Goddess, the rest of the gang was catching up. Soon it was time for The Goddess to take her leave. She had done what she came here to do. She gave them the gift of their loved ones back as a reward for winning the war against the Senior Partners. Her job was finished. She just had to get Xander and Anya to Italy and Giles and Jenny to England. She knew they would be together forever. The others knew that they would have to catch up further in person another time, so they said goodbye to those four and The Goddess disappeared along with them. As everyone looked around, the sun started to set. They would have to wait until it was dark to go back to their bus and get back to the base so that everyone could get to the hospital there.
They had won the war, gotten their loved ones back in more or less one piece though Fred's condition seemed shaky at best.....and all of this was done on Resurrection Blvd.
