⇀ Chapter Two.

✵✸✵

✵✸✵

The next morning they all set out looking for somewhere they can call home again, Solas having suggested to the Herald personally that he knew of just the place.

Nimue kept looking back behind her at all the people they had following behind them, following behind her and she couldn't believe how much faith they put into her.

The girl being once nothing but a lost girl, a lost elf, searching for the place she fit in, a place she could call her home. And now she's found that in the Inquisition, with all her new friends.

She knew that she couldn't let her people down, she had to lead them to this new place, the Inquisition will start over better than new, they would fix this.

For once after everything, Nimue finally had a little faith that her and the Inquisition could overcome this threat better than they were before.

Nimue continues climbing the mountains with her people, the girl scouting the way to the north as she looks for any signs of this Skyhold.

After awhile more of climbing the mountains and following the trail Nimue and Solas scout up the mountain in front of them.

Once they make it to the top the sight of a huge fortress like building stands tall in the distance, welcoming them, waiting for them to claim it as their home.

"Skyhold." Solas says as they gaze upon it.

"It's beautiful Solas." Nimue whispers quietly.

Everyone then starts making the trek over to the fortress in the sky, ready to get settled in to the place they would call their new home.

As they arrive at Skyhold and start getting themselves settled in to their fortress of solitude, the Inquisition looks to the Herald for guidance the entire time.

The girl walks out of a door and notices Cullen, Cassandra, Josephine and Leliana huddled around together talking when Cassandra notices her, waving her over to join them.

She walks over and as she does the other three walk off leaving only Cassandra standing before her, "They arrive daily from every settlement in the region. Skyhold is becoming a pilgrimage."

Cassandra then motions for Nimue to follow her, the girl doing so as she continues speaking, "If word has reached these people, it will have reached the Elder One. We have the walls and numbers to put up a fight here, but this threat is far beyond the war we anticipated. But we now know what allowed you to stand against Corypheus, what drew him to you."

"He came for this, and now it's useless to him, so he wants me dead. That's it." Nimue says as she holds her marked hand up.

"The anchor has power, but it's not why you're still standing here. Your decisions let us help heal the sky. Your determination brought us out of Haven. You are the creature's rival because of what you did. And we know it. All of us." Cassandra says as they climb the stairs of Skyhold where Leliana awaited holding a sword in her hands, "The Inquisition requires a leader, the one who has already been leading it." She finishes.

Nimue freezes a bit as she looks between them before glancing at the people around her, all looking to her for her answer with proud smiles on their faces.

"We need you." Cassandra says to her.

"You... You want me? You're offering this to an elf, are you sure you want me to lead you?" Nimue questions in disbelief as she looks at them all.

"I would be terrified handing this power to anyone, but I believe it is the only way. They'll follow you. To them, being an elf shows how far you've risen, how it must have been by Andraste's hand. What it means to you, how you lead us, that alone is for you to determine." Cassandra answers.

Nimue takes the sword from Leliana's hands, holding it up slightly admiring it before answering, "Then an elf will stand for us all, and no one will touch the Inquisition! And I will defeat Corypheus for them, not above them."

"Wherever you lead us, Inquisitor Nimue." Cassandra says to her before she calls to Josephine, "Have our people been told?"

"They have! And soon the world." Josephine calls back.

"Commander, will they follow?" Cassandra yells.

"Inquisition! Will you follow?" Cullen asks them. "Will you fight? Will we triumph?"

A chorus of loud "Yeah's!" come from the crowd of Inquisition soldiers, as well as all the other people gathered around her.

"Your leader! Your Herald! Your Inquisitor! Nimue Lavellan!" Cullen yells out, raising his sword towards Nimue.

A huge smile pulls onto Nimue's lips as she holds the sword up in her hand towards the people surrounding, towards her people.

Her advisors lead her into the main hall, the buildings insides a little rough around the edges but with work and time they could make it better.

"So this is where it begins." Cullen says in amazement.

"It began in the courtyard, this is where we turn that promise into action." Leliana says.

"But what do we do? We know nothing about this Corypheus except that he wanted your mark." Josephine says to the Inquisitor.

"Corypheus wants to restore Tevinter, is this a prelude to war with the Imperium?" Inquisitor Nimue asks them.

"I get the feeling we're dealing with extremists, not the vanguard of a true invasion." Cullen says to her.

"Tevinter is not the Imperium of a thousand years ago. What Corypheus yearns to 'restore' no longer exists. Though they would shed no tears if the south fell to chaos, I'm certain." Josephine finishes.

"Corypheus said he wanted to enter the Black City, that this would make him a God?" Nimue questions.

"He is willing to tear this world apart to reach the next, it won't matter if he's wrong." Leliana says.

"What if he's not wrong? If he finds some other way into the fade..." Cullen trails off.

"Then he gains the power he seeks or unleashes catastrophe on us all." Leliana says.

"Could his dragon really be an archdemon? What would that mean?" Nimue asks them.

"It would mean the beginning of another blight." Leliana says.

"We've seen no darkspawn other than Corypheus himself. Perhaps it's not an archdemon at all, but something different?" Josephine says.

"Whatever it is, it's dangerous. Commanding such a creature gives Corypheus an advantage we can't ignore." Cullen adds.

"Could he strike at us here? We can't have a repeat of what happened at Haven." Inquisitor Nimue says.

"Skyhold has the bones to withstand Corypheus. After what you did with one trebuchet, I'd bet against direct attack." Cullen says.

"We do have one advantage, we know what Corypheus intends to do next. In that strange future you experienced, Empress Celene had been assassinated." Leliana says.

"Imagine the chaos her death would cause. With his army..." Josephine says.

"An army he'll bolster with a massive force of demons, or so the future tells us." Cullen says.

"Corypheus could conquer the entire south of Thedas, God or no God." Josephine finishes.

Leliana sighs before saying, "I'd feel better if we knew more about what we were dealing with."

"I know someone who can help with that." The voice of Varric suddenly says to them, "Everyone acting all inspirational jogged my memory, so I sent a message to an old friend. He's crossed paths with Corypheus before, and may know more about what he's doing. He can help."

"I'm always looking for new allies, introduce me." Nimue says with a smile towards Varric.

"Parading around might cause a fuss, it's better for you to meet privately. On the battlements. Trust me, it's complicated." The dwarf finishes.

"Well, then, we stand ready to move on both of these concerns." Josephine says.

"On your order, Inquisitor." Cullen finishes.

"I know one thing. If he has brought who I think he has, Cassandra is going to kill him." Leliana adds.

The four then part ways and leave the Inquisitor to explore Skyhold a little bit more, and to talk with her friends to take a small very much needed rest after all she's been through lately.
