Chapter Twelve

Things are never permanent, everything changes. In fact, the only thing permanent in our life are changes. Changes sometimes make us happy and sometimes irritates us, but life never goes on without changes. We need to adjust with them, we need to learn to adapt changes because changes make us a whole different person. Sometimes for better or sometimes for worse.

After the reception got over. We both were sent to the backyard. I saw a black car shining in the parking lot. Auden headed towards the car, totally forgetting about me, or maybe he was just ignoring me. I followed him to the car and got inside it. It was a kind of car I had never seen before. Actually, I was never interested in cars and all that stuff. I never remember the brands of any kind of product. I am the kind of person who will buy anything which they like regardless of the brand and cheap price.

The driver started the car once we both were settled at the end of our seats. I would literally fall off the car if by chance somebody opens the door. I guess we both don't like each other's proximity. Okay, no lies, I do like it but he surely doesn't, and I don't want to make our relationship any more complicated than it is now.

After a long drive, the driver stopped the car at a huge hotel. It was so beautiful. Auden stepped out of the car and headed towards the hotel. I again followed him inside the hotel.

It was as beautiful and huge from inside as from outside. The hotel was well designed. It was modern and elegant with an ancient touch to the furniture. The only problem was that the hotel didn't have a warm and welcoming vibe, it was cold and unfamiliar kind of place.

"Why is this hotel vacant?" I questioned Auden who was already leaving me alone in this big place without any guidance.

"It isn't a hotel. It is my house," he replied in a bored voice.

What? This is his house? Are you kidding me? How can this be anyone's house?

He just walked away without further explanation. An old maid came to me and handed me a glass of water. Well, I didn't ask for it but I truly needed it. I drank the water given to me and analysed the hotel- I mean house.

"Let me show you your room Ma'am," she said gesturing me to follow her. "My name's Ashley. You can call me by my name." I told her climbing the stairs behind her.

"No ma'am we can't. We aren't allowed to call anyone in this house by their names. If we commit this sin we will be deemed to death." she muttered, stopping in front of a door. I think this is my room.

"Okay," I didn't insist much because I knew this family cares about their respect more than someone's life.

"I hope you have a good night ma'am," said the old maid bending in respect as I opened the door and went inside my room. I nodded and she went away. Closing the door behind me, I checked my new room. It was no doubt very vast and beautiful but at the same time, it was boring and lifeless. I didn't like it.

I went straight to the bathroom to change my clothes. The bathroom was also decorated like the rest of the house. I quickly changed my clothes and brushed my teeth, getting ready for bed. It was 11:00 pm, everyone would have returned till now.

I was hungry so I went to the kitchen downstairs, for some food. The three were gathered downstairs, I think they had just arrived. They looked exhausted.
I went straight to the kitchen without meeting their eyes.

When I entered the kitchen, I was completely shocked. No, I wasn't shocked because it was twice the size of my new room, I was shocked because the kitchen was totally clean and empty. Nothing, literally nothing was in that damn kitchen. I looked into the fridge and again found nothing in it.

What the heck? Don't these people eat food, or are they vampires? I am in serious danger, they might eat me in their breakfast tomorrow. Run, Ashley, run.

"Looking for something? I am sure whatever you are looking for, you won't be able to find it in that fridge." someone said from behind, making me jump in fright.

Oh My God!! I think now I won't be their breakfast tomorrow anymore, because they are gonna eat me in their dinner tonight.

It was Davina, she knowingly smirked at me. I am so gonna die today. "What do you want?" I asked her quietly. "I should be the one asking that question to you, oh wait! I don't need to ask you something I already know" she retorted. What is she talking about now?

"You are hungry, aren't you?" she whispered into my ears and I nodded meekly. I really was hungry and there was nothing to lie about it.

"I am so sorry, but you can't get anything to eat at this time. It is a rule of this house," she said, faking sympathy for me.

"Oh yeah, What is this house, an army camp? I will eat whatever, whenever and wherever I want to eat. Neither can you, nor your family can stop me from doing that. You get that. Now I really am hungry, so bye, I will not waste my time on you, I mean I will meet you tomorrow." I said with an attitude, strolling towards the main door of the house.

She just smirked and said, "I already warned you, now it's all up to you. If you wanna try you can try. Don't come to me crying afterwards. Hope you have a good night."

"Whatever" I muttered under my breath and opened the door. I was about to step out of the house when two bodyguards blocked my way.

I switched my position but they blocked my way again. I continuously tried to get away but they didn't let me get out of the house.

"What do you want? Let me go. Get out of my way, you both." I said a little angry and a lot hungry. Those people didn't let me eat the whole day. I will faint if I don't get to eat now.

"It's not allowed to get out of the house at this hour. We can't let you go out." This house was really a military camp, but I surely am not one of the soldiers of this camp and I surely won't follow their damn rules.

"Well, you know what, I don't care. So for the last time, get out of my way, " They didn't budge from their place. Okay, then you both will need to see the other side of Ashley now. I thought pointedly looking at them.

"Ahhaahha" I started crying and their eyes went wide. They looked at each other totally scared. I cried harder grabbing their attention again.

"Ma'am please stop crying, we can't do anything for you. Please try to understand, our whole family will suffer with us, if we don't obey Mr Rockefeller's orders," One of the bodyguards pleaded. After listening to this I immediately stopped crying and looked up at them.

"I am hungry, they don't have food in their kitchen. I haven't eaten since morning." I said wiping my tears with the back of my hand.

"Uhmm. We might have some food for you to eat," he said making my heart flare with hope.
"Really?" I asked excitedly and they both nodded. The tall bodyguard gestured the other bodyguard to go. He didn't waste any time and did as ordered.

Now only the tall bodyguard and I were left in the threshold of the house. We both stood there awkwardly, shifting our gaze from one thing to another.

"What is your name?" I inquired him, breaking the awkward silence between us. "I am Jack" he replied still not look at me.

"Oh" I exclaimed and he nodded.
The other bodyguard came back holding a bag. "This is all I could get. I hope it is enough for tonight," he said handing the bag to me.

"Yes, anything would do for tonight. Thank you so much. I would have died from hunger if you wouldn't have helped me today." I exclaimed dramatically running towards my room. I heard them chuckling behind me.

Once I was in the room I closed the door and sat on the edge of the bed opening the bag. There were a burger and a few fries inside the bag.

"Why would they have this food with them? Aren't they supposed to be on a good diet?" I wondered.

Why should I care, I got the food I should just enjoy it, for now, I thought while picking up the burger and feeding my hungry self some food.

After I was done eating, I threw the wrapper in the dustbin. My phone buzzed making me jump.
It was 1:00 am, who would be calling me at night on this hour.

The screen lit displaying Cole's name on it. I answered the call immediately. "Hey, did you reach them? Are they alright?" I inquired.

"Yes, I reached on time and helped them out. You don't need to worry anymore. Everything's gonna be fine." he reassured me.

"When someone has a friend like you nothing can go wrong," I said smiling widely with relief. Cole was a really good friend, I don't know what I would have done if he wouldn't have gone there to help them out.

"It's my pleasure," he said mockingly making me laugh at him."You are definitely something." I replied to his mockery.

"How are things going there?" he asked in all seriousness.
"About that, I am genuinely furious at you," I said angrily.

"What? Why? What did I do now?" he asked obviously confused by my sudden outburst.

"You were one who sent me here, right? You told me everything about this family. Then how did you forget to tell me that this house is actually a secret military camp, where you eat at a particular time and if you, by chance ever feel hungry, you can't get anything to eat because the damn fridge is empty," I snapped at him.

"Oh, I forgot to tell you the rules of the house. I am sorry, I was busy and I couldn't really focus on anything other than the wedding. The family has a certain set of rules which everyone, who steps into the house has to follow and if they don't they get thrown out of the house." he explained and I gulped in fear.

If I am not able to follow their rules they might kick me out of the house too and then I wouldn't be able to pay the hospital bills again.

"What are the rules?" I asked Cole in a whispered voice still afraid that maybe the rules they would set would be too hard for me to follow.

"Ash, I am sorry but I can't talk to you right now. Meet me near the new cafe, tomorrow. I will text you the address. I promise that I will explain everything to you there,"

"Okay, but I am still mad at you," I said childishly and he chuckled.

"Sorry, love. I will make up to you for it. Now go to sleep. It's getting late, I don't want to see dark circles under your beautiful eyes when we meet tomorrow. Good night," he said softly making me blush yet again. He always talks sweet.

"Good night," I replied shyly before disconnecting the call.

"I don't want to sleep. Don't you dare touch me? Go away." I heard a child's voice from the room next to mine.

I went outside to check who is disturbing that child. As I neared the room I heard a loud noise of something being thrown on the floor. I hurriedly opened the door, worried about the little child inside.

"What the hell?"
