The Loveable Teacher
Taehyung was a man who loved many things in life. He loved painting, drawing, singing, everything creative really. But, none of these held a candle to his main love; teaching.
For 3 years now he's been able to live his dream, each year teaching a classed filled with bright-eyed children within a school in the heart of Seoul. To him, nothing was more rewarding than watching them grow and learn with the knowledge he shares. It really was the best job he could've asked for. And that's exactly why he becomes so excitable for the first day of term whilst many others dread it. It was another chance to kickstart his classes education, give them the best start to their academic life.
Awakening early, he promptly dresses up in his favourite shirt. A simple white, crisp one with the prettiest light blue embroidery, pairing it with smart black pants to match. The perfect 'smart casual' look. He smooths his clothes over with his hands before strolling over to the mirror, checking his hair wasn't sticking out in all odd and peculiar directions. He was teased for his unkempt hair once before, never again will he allow it to happen. His pride was too fragile now.
Once he was finally happy with the way he looked he headed for the door, sparing a quick glance at the clock before he shrugs on a jacket. He was running early, something that didn't come as a surprise, 45 minutes early in fact. That knowledge only calmed him, knowing he'd rather have more time to organise himself than rush through it all. Being early never bothered him.
Driving through clear roads instead of hitting the rush hour traffic is yet another reason that Taehyung loves being early. Adding time into his usually short journey really isn't something he'll ever be a fan of, so avoiding all the traffic is an added cheerfulness to his already ecstatic mood. It feels as if he were floating on a cloud as he pulls up in the school carpark, parking in his regular spot since the majority of the spaces were still free.
Looking around, Taehyung struggles to see any other signs of life, only being able to catch a glance of one couple already there watching their child happily bounce around the playground. He decides to greet them before he enters the building, eager to establish a good rapport with the parents. Whether their child is one he teaches or not.
"Good morning," Taehyung cheerfully greets as he stops in front of the couple.
"Good morning! I'm guessing you're a teacher seen as you don't have a kid with you," One of the men observes, smiling just as brightly in return.
Taehyung chuckles slightly, "well, it would be weird if I wasn't," he jokes. "I'm Kim Taehyung, I teach kindergarten," he says as he holds out his hand for the men to shake.
Both of them shake his hand warmly, "I'm Kim Seokjin and this is my husband Kim Namjoon. That's our little girl, Hana over there. I think she'll be in your class," Jin smiles.
"She's adorable," Taehyung smiles back. "The first day of a new school year is always exciting, it's always great to meet a new class."
"Well, Hana is an angel so you'll definitely have no trouble with her. She's been excited to start school for so long now," Namjoon assures.
Taehyung laughs again, "good to know. Well, I should be heading inside to get everything ready for the little ones. It's been lovely talking to you," he says with a bright grin as they exchange their goodbyes.
As Taehyung finally makes his way inside the building, he's immediately met with the sight of his best friend picking up papers from the ground. He bites his lip to keep himself from laughing, knowing that he dropped them out of sheer clumsiness. "You have to stop being such a butterfingers, Chim."
The sudden voice made Jimin jump, falling onto the floor from the crouching position he was previously in. "Jesus Christ, Tae. You almost gave me a heart attack!" He frowns as he dramatically clutches his heart.
"Sorry," Taehyung apologises with a laugh as he crouched down to help the other with his scattered papers.
After a short while, Jimin manages to compose himself and scoops up the remaining pages before standing up. "Thanks, bestie," he says with a bright smile in which makes his eyes disappear, the previous hostility completely forgotten about. "Excited to meet your class?" Jimin continues the conversation as they walked down the hallway to their neighbouring classrooms.
"So excited! I hope I don't have a troublemaker like last year though, that was way too exhausting."
"I swear that child was the spawn of Satan, he even disrupted my class without even being in it!" The older exclaims.
"Damn Yoongi for not kicking that demon child's ass out of the school. I don't care if the parents are rich, that kid tried to bite me at least 50 times!" Taehyung exaggerates, earning a sweet giggle from the other.
"That's what you get for smelling like a combination of strawberries and vanilla, even I want to bite you!" Jimin jokes.
"You keep your teeth to yourself, I'm more than done with all the cannibalism. Someone should've put a muzzle on that kid," Taehyung grimaces at the memory, haulting as he reaches his classroom door. "Make sure you visit me during lunch, I want to hear all about your class."
"I will don't worry!" Jimin shouts before entering his own classroom, leaving Taehyung alone in the hallway.
Taehyung swiftly enters his own classroom, ecstatic to finally be back in his happy place after the summer break. Quickly, he gets stuck into work, arranging the desks so the children could sit in groups of four. Something he always liked to do on the first day so the kids could get to know each other. He then places pots of coloured pens and pencils in the middle of them, making sure that no colours were missing as he does so.
Happy with how everything looks, he walks over to his own desk, straightening out all the items on top of it. He wipes away some dust that had gathered over the weeks, smiling to himself once everything looks clean. In hindsight, he really didn't need to arrive so early since he managed to arrange everything with more than enough time to spare. Now, all he could do was wait at his desk and wait for the bell to ring.
After 10 minutes children start to flood the classroom, although for Taehyung it felt as if it had been much longer. Taehyung flashes a warm smile to each of their nervous looking faces as they enter, some of them with tears in their eyes from having to part with their parents for what seems to be the first time.
As all of them were placing down their bags and finding a chair to sit in, Taehyung notices a parent appear in the doorway being pulled by the hand by his daughter. It makes him smile even wider as usually parents say goodbye in the hallway. Clearly, this little girl wanted to stay with her dad for as long as she possibly could. Taehyung watches them, his face aching from all the smiling as he sees a short exchange of words before the dad attacks his little girl's face with kisses making her giggle uncontrollably. His heart practically bursts from the sight.
The fact that the man was possibly the prettiest human Taehyung had ever seen really didn't help his heart. Large, brown, innocent eyes paired with the cutest nose that he just wanted to poke. He looked way too young to be the father of a 5-year-old. His bunny-like smile made Taehyung's heart beat faster making him look away in panic, suddenly aware of his pathetic yearning. 'Pull yourself together, you cannot fall for one of your student's parents! He probably has a wife back at home,' his mind scolds him.
As he looked back up the man was gone and the last of the children were settling into their seats as the bell rings to signal the beginning of class time. He stands up with his chair gracefully and strolls to the front of the room, standing before all of the now silent children. "Good morning everyone! I'm Mr Kim, but you can all call me Taehyung seen as I'm sure we'll all be friends," he says, trying to make them feel welcome.
"You all have some pens and pencils on your tables, I was hoping you could all use them to draw a picture for me so I can get to know you better," Taehyung softly smiles as he reaches over to his desk to pick up a stack of paper before handing a sheet out to each student. "Draw something you love and then you'll each step in front of the class and explain what your picture is about."
As he finishes handing out the paper he sees them all get stuck into the work, happily scribbling things across their page. He was proud he was able to quickly cheer them all up, this technique has always been his saving grace.
As he waits he decides to text his other best friend. A little unprofessional, but he knows that none of the children would tattle if they saw him quickly using his phone. Besides, with how engrossed them all were in their artworks, it wouldn't matter if Taehyung distracts himself for a couple of minutes.

Taehyung tries not to laugh at the texts as he slips his phone back into his desk drawer, shaking his head at the ridiculousness of Hoseok's words.
Clearing his throat he stands back up in front of the children, seeing that the majority of them had finished with their drawings. "Ok guys! Who wants to present their drawing first?"
All of the children suddenly break eye contact, cowering into their seats. It was clear that nobody wanted to be the first one to stand up. With that, Taehyung thinks he'll have to be the bad guy and pick someone at random to get the ball rolling. But then, one little girl hurriedly puts her pen down and finishes her work, sticking her hand straight up into the air and bouncing excitedly in her seat.
Taehyung beams at the girl's excitement, relieved to not have to make the decision himself. "Come on up, cutie! What's your name?" he asks as she approaches the front of the room.
"Asami," she proudly says.
"What a unique name! What's your drawing about, Asami?"
"I drew all the things I love the most! Here's me eating strawberry ice cream, my favouritest flavour in the world. And here's my daddy who I love the most in the whole world, and he's eating chocolate ice cream because that's what he loves!" Asami squeals as she points at the colourful scribbles on the page. "Here's the trees because we're in the park, that's where daddy takes me for ice cream on Sunday's when its sunny! When it's cold or rainy we sit inside the shop, that's my second favourite place so I drew it back here!"
Taehyung can't help but chuckle at the little girl's excitement, she's definitely the cutest child he's ever had in his class. (Perhaps the fact her dad is so pretty was making him a little biased, but he'll never admit that). Her enthusiasm and confidence seemed amazing for a five-year-old which only makes him more excited to see more of her personality. "That's a beautiful picture, Asami. I feel like I know you better already."
"Thank you, Tata!" Asami giggles as she skips back to her chair making Taehyung practically melt from the nickname. His students have shortened his name to Tae or Taetae before but never Tata, he can't help but immediately find a soft spot for the little girl. Smiling even brighter than before he asks who would like to present next and to his surprise, every hand in the room shoots up. Asami seemed to have made quite the impression.
From then on, the class seemed to run much more smoothly.

A couple of hours pass and it's finally lunchtime, "go and enjoy your lunch everyone! Make sure you eat it all or else you won't have enough energy for music time," Taehyung encourages as all the kids run out of the room, slumping into his seat with a mildly exhausted sigh.
5 Minutes later Jimin enters, waving his small hands at Taehyung. "So, how was your morning?" He asks.
"Great actually! The kids are all so lovely and full of life," Taehyung says as he takes a bite out of his sandwich.
"Hobi messaged me, he said you've fallen in love with a parent," Jimin wiggles his eyebrows as he takes a seat across from the younger, sitting on one of the children's chairs which oddly he seemed to fit into.
Tahyung perks up at this, remembering the cute man he saw that morning. "Yes, oh my god! He was literally perfect, love at first sight... for me at least, I don't even think he saw me. His daughter is an actual angel as well, she drew a picture of herself eating ice cream in the park with her dad, I almost sobbed."
"She just drew a picture of her and her dad? No mom or second dad?" Jimin smirks.
"Well yeah, but he could still be married, he could just be her favourite parent! You don't know how busy the other parent is," Taehyung rolls his eyes.
Jimin sighs in frustration "You don't know that, Tae! She only drew her dad so maybe it is just the two of them. If you want, I could do some investigating. Just show me who he is at pickup time."
"Okay, fine. Just please don't embarrass me!"
"No promises," Jimin laughs which Taehyung frowns at, only to burst into laughter as well a moment later.
