Reunion

The closer the day of his cousins' wedding came, the more Taehyung felt like completely backing out of the entire thing. He knew it was only going to go bad, nothing good ever happened when his parents and he were in the same room together. Now with a possessive husband by his side, he knows for a fact the inevitable argument was going to be worse than it ever had been before. The only thing that was keeping him agreeing to the whole ordeal was the prospect of finally being able to show them everything he has, the amazing family he's managed to grow with Jungkook. At one point he even considers taking Yeontan with them to complete the 'perfect family' image, but in the end, he didn't want to stress the little dog out so they talked Jin and Namjoon into dog sitting him for the weekend they were away.

The night before they set off to Daegu was like a bad omen, or maybe Taehyung was just being paranoid. Minjun took longer than usual to settle down after his night feed, screaming his little lungs out if Jungkook even moved to place him down into his crib. Asami managed to cut her finger and added to the noise within the house with her own cries, only crying louder when Taehyung discovered they had no Ariel bandaids left and only had ones with other princesses on. It had taken him an entire half an hour to get her to finally agree to a Snow White one instead, with the added promise of an entire slice of cake once they were at the wedding reception.

When they finally got into bed, they were both well and truly exhausted. "Maybe tonight was a sign of things to come, maybe the universe is telling us to not go to the wedding," Taehyung voices out when he snuggles up to Jungkook's side.

"Or maybe shit just happens." Jungkook sleepily replies, not seeming even a fraction of how bothered the elder was.

"I'm being serious, Kookie."

"So am I," Jungkook quickly says back, opening one eye only to see Taehyung pouting with the most miserable look on his face. "Baby, stop worrying. If you really don't want to go then we won't, okay? We can just take a weekend trip to Daegu without going to the wedding."

"But that'll make me seem like a coward. They probably already know that I've said I'm going, my cousins probably told them everything. If we don't show up then they'll think I was lying about having a family, probably think I made you all up in a panic and then backed out at the last second so I didn't have to be embarrassed." Taehyung sighs loudly.

"But you didn't. You know that and I know that, who gives a fuck what they think?"

"Unfortunately there's a part of me that still does."

Jungkook frowns at the words before wrapping his arms tighter around Taehyung, bringing him closer to his own body. "How about this, we show up and the second things get bad we'll bolt out of there. Sound good?"

"You won't leave me, right? You'll stick with me for the entire thing?"

"Of course, baby. I'd never leave you."

Taehyung smiles when Jungkook softly kisses the top of his head, feeling the tension leave his body at least for the night. He can only hope that this wasn't the calm before the storm.

The drive to Daegu the next morning went surprisingly smoothly, Minjun sleeping through basically the whole journey whilst Asami sang along to songs and drew in her sketch pad. Taehyung was thankful for the peace, knowing that the horror from the night before had not carried on into the morning. When they arrived at their hotel they didn't have long to get ready before they had to head to the wedding, both of the men trying to organise everything quickly so they didn't show themselves up by being late to the actual ceremony.

"I thought daddy's other family were bad people," Asami says in confusion as Jungkook fiddles around with the ribbon in her hair.

"They are, pancake."

"So why are we meeting them?"

"Because they said some nasty things to your daddy years ago which hurt him, and we have to prove that everything they said was wrong." Jungkook tries to explain without saying too much.

Asami frowns as she ponders the words, not liking the fact someone was mean to one of her favourite people in the entire world. "Can I kick them?" She ends up saying, making Jungkook splutter out a surprised laugh behind her.

"Violence is bad, remember?"

"But they're meanies."

"That still doesn't make it any better," Jungkook laughs as he stands up, making his way over to dress Minjun.

It takes Taehyung a while to find the will to exit the bathroom after dressing himself, not wanting to face the reality that he was about to see his parents again for the first time in almost ten years. When he finally leaves he's happy to see everything was calm, Jungkook just finishing dressing their baby whilst Asami twirled around in her dress whilst giggling happily.

"Oh, I have a surprise!" Jungkook announces when he realises Taehyung was there, scooping Minjun up from the bed and turning around to show him to the elder.

Taehyung is caught between laughing and cooing when he sees Minjun, the little boy dressed in a babygrow with a tuxedo pattern of the front of it. "Where did you find that?"

"I passed a baby store one day when I went to get coffee on my lunch break and saw it, I couldn't resist buying it for him."

"He looks adorable," Taehyung smiles, completely calm now thanks to his husband.

"Well he's our son, do you expect anything less?"

Taehyung laughs as he leans forward to kiss the younger's cheek, trying his best to keep the focus on his amazing family and nothing else. It works until they arrive at the church, glancing out of the window of the car as Jungkook parks up only to see a sea of familiar faces arriving as well.

"You okay?" Jungkook asks, softly placing his hand on top of Taehyung's.

"Yeah. It's just weird seeing all these people who I never thought I'd see again," Taehyung tries to smile, but Jungkook can tell for sure that it was fake.

"Well lucky them, being graced with your presence once again." Jungkook winks at the elder before getting out of the car, the other laughing softly as he follows.

"When I get married I want it to be in a castle," Asami announces as Taehyung lifts her out of the car and places her onto the ground.

"Who said you're allowed to get married in the future?" Jungkook calls from the other side.

"I'm not allowed to get married?" Asami pouts.

"Of course you are, princess. You can get married in a castle when you're all grown up and in love," Taehyung smiles encouragingly, ignoring the glare he gains from his husband.

"Just like you and daddy?"

"Of course."

Jungkook can't help but smile when he walks over to them, carrying the baby carrier as he locks the car. Although he was still not thrilled about Asami wanting to be married, but that was a problem for future Jungkook to have to deal with.

"Remember, no kicking," Jungkook whispers to Asami, the little girl giving him a thumbs up to show she understands.

"What?" Taehyung furrows his eyebrows at the younger, stopping in his tracks.

"Nothing. Come on, we don't want to arrive at the same time the bride does."

Thankfully the topic was dropped, Taehyung favouring to actually get inside the church than to ask what the whole thing was about. They're greeted at the door by someone that Taehyung didn't know, he assumed he must've been apart of the grooms family which is something he was grateful for, he definitely wasn't ready to be met by someone from his own. They sit at the back of the church, Jungkook's choice since he could see how anxious the elder already was so making them seem more invisible was the more practical option in order to keep him calm.

The ceremony goes well, no one even looking their way as they watch the couple recite their vows and prove to everyone how in love they were. It isn't until halfway through that Minjun starts getting a little fussy, Jungkook noticing the way he squirms around in the baby carrier more than usual.

"I'm going to have to take him outside before he screams the whole church down," Jungkook leans over to Taehyung, noticing the way the elder's eyes widen in panic. "I'll be five minutes, okay?"

Taehyung nods, although reluctantly. Jungkook notices the way he swallows harshly as he picks Minjun up from the carrier and heads towards the doors, praying that the baby didn't start screaming until they were outside. Surprising he didn't cry at all, clearly only needing to be freed from the restraints of his carrier in order to stop being a fuss. He smiles down at the baby before taking a deep breath of fresh air, preparing to head back inside until he's stopped by a voice.

"What an adorable little baby," a woman coos, making her way over to them with a smile. "How old is he?"

"Almost three months," Jungkook smiles back. He's used to the baby chat, he always used to be stopped and asked about Asami when she was a baby and now it's the exact same with Minjun. It annoyed him, not that he'd ever be as rude as to show it.

"He's beautiful." The woman smiles, something about her presence making Jungkook instantly feel uneasy as she leans closer. "Are you family of the groom?"

"Uh- no. Family of the bride, kind of, by marriage anyway." Jungkook quickly answers not wanting to prolong his time outside when he knows for a fact Taehyung is begging for him to come back. He notices the way the woman eyes him in confusion, probably trying to work out why she's never seen him before. "I should get back inside, he seems more settled now," he says with a forced smile before turning to leave.

"What took you so long?" Taehyung whispers when Jungkook finally sits back down beside him, finally being able to breathe properly again.

"Some woman took a liking to Minjun, you know how much attention his adorable little face attracts."

"Who was she?"

"I don't know, I think she was from your family though since she asked me if I was some kind of relation to the groom," Jungkook shrugs.

Taehyung purses his lips together as he nods, not having anything more to say about the matter. He watches the rest of the wedding with the same level of anxiety, only growing more panicked when he realises it was coming to the end. The reception is what he dreaded the most, old family members finally being able to see him and know he was there. His parents finally seeing him, wondering what they were going to say when they do. Jungkook notices his panic and links his hand with the elders, giving him a small smile of encouragement as they watch the newly married couple walk back down the aisle to the doors.

The reception was in a big hall, which is something that calmed Taehyung a little bit. It would take longer for people to notice him this way, longer than it would if the area was much smaller. The family head straight to the couple as they enter, Taehyung giving them a wide smile as he says his congratulations.

"Tae, you actually came!" The bride says cheerfully, pulling her cousin in for a tight hug. "It's been so long since I saw you last, I almost thought you'd moved countries!"

"Yeah, I know. I'm sorry. It great to see you again, Seulgi." Taehyung smiles, wiggling himself free from the hug. "Um- this is my husband, Jungkook."

Jungkook smiles as he extends a hand for Seulgi to shake, only to be surprised when she disregards the hand and pulls him in for a hug instead. "It's so lovely to meet you! I always knew Tae would end up with someone just as beautiful as he is."

Taehyung laughs at the encounter, the anxiety leaving him when he sees just how accepting his cousin was being. "These are my children, Asami and Minjun," he continues as he softly pushes Asami forward, the little girl beaming up at the woman.

"You're so pretty!" Asami announces, gaining a soft laugh from everyone around her.

"Not as pretty as you," Seulgi giggles as she bends over to gently pinch her cheeks. "You have such a beautiful family, Tae. I'm happy for you."

"Thanks," Taehyung smiles widely, genuinely thankful for the compliment. "I would've invited you to our wedding too but-"

"I get it, don't worry." The woman smiles, patting Taehyung on the arm comfortingly. "Go grab a seat, you don't want to miss the food, it's going to be amazing."

"Food!" Asami cheers.

Everyone laughs, and after yet more congratulations they finally head off to find their seats. Thankfully they were not placed on a table with Taehyung's parents, something he makes a mental note to thank Seulgi for at a later date. Instead, they were seated with people he didn't know, presumably the grooms family instead of his own which is another thing that effectively calms his nerves. He glances around the room breifly in an attempt to spot familiar faces, he sees his aunt, a few more of his cousins, some old woman who he can't remember how exactly he's related to her, but no sign of his parents.

"Oh look, it's that woman that took such an interest in our baby earlier," Jungkook whispers as he jolts his head in the direction of the woman.

Taehyung instantly frowns when he sees who the younger is referring to, he should've known that this would've happened. "That's my mom."

"What?" Jungkook scowls. "If I would've known I would've slapped the bitch."

"Daddy said a bad word!" Asami gasps.

"I said witch," Jungkook turns to tell her, but Asami wasn't buying it at all.

"No, you didn't."

"Yes, I did."

"No, you didn't."

"Hey princess, are those breadsticks? Why don't you go and get some," Taehyung intervenes, gesturing to the table across the room.

The little girl instantly complies and goes running off. The promise of food always something that will get her to drop a topic faster than anything else.

"Thank you," Jungkook sighs in relief. "Seriously though, you should've shown me a picture or something so I didn't waste my time attempting to be nice to her."

"I don't have any pictures, why would I want to remember such vile people? Besides, you couldn't have slapped her whilst holding Minjun anyway."

"You underestimate me. Back when I was eighteen I punched someone whilst holding Asami, I didn't even wake her up."

Taehyung raises an eyebrow at his husband, completely dumbfounded by his words. "You did what now?"

"I have a genuine explanation for it! I was kind of dating this guy before I found out I had a daughter, so when I brought her home and everything I continued to see him but I didn't know how to tell him that some girl I was seeing before when I was trying to lie myself into being straight phoned me and now I'm a dad, it's an awkward conversation right? So I kept putting it off until one day he found out, I still to this day don't know how he did. So he comes to my house whilst I'm just about to put her down for a nap and starts screaming at me, and I calmly said 'dude, shut up you're going to wake my baby', and he said and I quote 'I don't give a fuck about your ugly ass baby'. Me being the protective dad I am just snapped, I punched him without even thinking." Jungkook explains, pleading his case.

"With Asami still in your arms?"

"Well I wasn't about to lay her down on the carpet before I punched this guy in the jaw, was I?"

"I agree he deserved it, but seriously you could've dropped her."

Jungkook rolls his eyes, feeling himself being transported straight back to his eighteen year old self. "I had this entire lecture from my mom when everything happened, so I know how stupid it was. Dad thought it was funny though, even fist bumped me when mom left the room."

"You're definitely your father's son." Taehyung sighs, but he can't help but let out a small chuckle.

"Dad's great, so I'm going to take that as a compliment."

Taehyung definitely couldn't disagree with that statement, Jungkook's father was one of the greatest men he had ever had the privilege of meeting after all. He looks passed Jungkook to the empty seat beside him, noticing Asami still hadn't come back from her 'breadstick run'. He quickly looks for her through the crowd of people, hoping she wasn't scoffing down the entire basket full on them when he's met with the sight of his mother crouching down to speak to her. He quickly stands from his seat, not even taking a second to tell Jungkook where he was going before walking towards the scene.

"Having two daddies is normal! My best friend Hana has two daddies, so does baby Jongho!" He overhears Asami saying as he draws closer, a defensive tone clear in her voice.

"Hey princess, what's going on?" Taehyung questions when he finally reaches them, even though he knew exactly what was happening.

"This lady is trying to tell me that having two daddies is icky!" Asami huffs, crossing her small arms across her chest with a pout.

"Hello, Taehyung." His mother stands with an overly sweet smile, her eyes looking him up and down with clear judgement. "I must say, I was surprised when I heard you said yes to coming to this wedding but I'm even more surprised to see you actually showed up."

"And did you come with the sole purpose of terrorising my daughter or was that just added fun for you?"

The woman scoffs, "she's not your daughter, she looks nothing like you."

"Why did you just walk off like that? You scared me," Jungkook frowns as he joins the others, Minjun asleep peacefully in his arms as he attempts not to move him too much.

"She was upsetting our daughter, I had to intervene," Taehyung whispers back quickly before turning his gaze back to his mother.

Only then does Jungkook realise what's going on, and to say he was annoyed was an understatement. "Oh, hi. We met earlier but I didn't get the chance to properly introduce myself. I'm Jungkook, Taehyung's husband."

"So I'm guessing the children are yours then. Did my son ruin your first marriage? Brainwash you into thinking you're gay just so he could steal a family for himself?"

"Taehyung is my first serious relationship, I was raising Asami by myself before then. Not that it's really any of your business what my life story is."

"Daddy was my teacher when I went to school for the first time ever, he was the best teacher in the universe. That's how my daddies fell in love, just like a fairytale!" Asami explains happily, giggling to herself.

"What about your mommy? You have to have one of those," The woman pries, sweetly talking to the little girl as if Jungkook and Taehyung weren't even there.

"She was a meanie, she didn't want to be my mommy."

"Stop trying to speak to my daughter. If you have any questions about my family then ask me." Taehyung scowls, pulling Asami in front of him protectively.

The woman scoffs, aiming her gaze back at Taehyung, "why are you even here, Taehyung? I thought we made it clear when we said you were no longer apart of this family. You're a disgrace, you show up here with your wrong marriage and your adopted children acting as if you've got it all put together, you're not fooling anyone."

"Minjun is actually biologically Taehyung's child, which means he is, unfortunately, your blood as well. We had a woman carry him for us so we could expand our family since we love each other and it felt right to do so. There's nothing wrong with our family or our marriage, it's more perfect than anything." Jungkook explains through gritted teeth, feeling the anger bubbling inside him about to spill over.

"Was I speaking to you? Because I really do not think I was."

That's all it takes for Taehyung to snap, his previous calm demeanour completely shattering to pieces. "We're here because Seulgi invited us, it's not as if I came here because I ever wanted to see your face again. Since you threw me out with the intention of ruining me I have done nothing but worked my ass off to prove you wrong. I have a great job working with children, which if you ever paid attention to me growing up you would know that was my dream job since I was ten. I have amazing friends who stuck by me and talked me into not hating myself because of your disgusting words, and most importantly I have this amazing family around me to keep me smiling. Jungkook loves me and I love him too more than anything, there's nothing wrong with anything we have just because we share the same genitals. Just go sit back at your table with your crusty old husband who's cheated on you a thousand times and your other child who is most definitely still living with you because he thinks relying on you for money is better than getting a rewarding job and making something of himself, and I'll go sit back at my table with my loyal, hardworking husband and my amazing children."

Jungkook smirks from beside the elder, nothing but pride filling him when he sees him standing up to the woman who made him doubt himself so much. The woman opens her mouth but no words come out, promptly shutting it afterwards with a huff as her hands ball into tight fists. "I'll guess we'll be heading back to our table then. Enjoy your meal, I've heard the food is going to be great," he smugly says earning himself a small laugh from Taehyung.

They turn to leave only to notice Asami isn't following, the little girl still rooted to the ground as she stares up at the elder woman. "Princess, come on," Taehyung says as he holds his hand out for her to take, only to be ignored.

"You're a big meanie. My daddies taught me that love is love and all love is beautiful! I don't want a mommy in my life, my daddies both love me and Junie more than a mommy ever could and that means they're both the bestest people in the world!" Asami loudly yells before sticking her tongue out at the woman and stomping over to Taehyung to grab his hand, finally allowing herself to be lead back towards their table.

"Pancake?" Jungkook speaks once they've sat down.

Asami looks up timidly, nervously playing with her fingers in her lap. "I know yelling is mean, daddy. But I didn't kick her..."

"No, pancake, that was amazing. I'm proud at you for standing up for yourself." Jungkook smiles, the smile only growing when Asami leans against him happily.

As Taehyung looks at them he feels his throat tighten, the tears building up in his eyes from pure happiness. Standing up to his mother was something he always wishes he did back when he was younger, and now he's finally had a chance to do so he couldn't feel freer. Seeing Asami do the same was just an added bonus, all in all, he couldn't be happier that he pushed his fears aside and showed his biggest haters that they could never break him.

Taehyung finds himself almost floating with happiness when they're finally snuggled up in bed together that night. The rest of the wedding went great, he didn't see his parents again, not even a glimpse of them and he managed to reconnect with a few of his other family members. It was like a dream, and as Taehyung lays in Jungkook's embrace he has to convince himself that the whole day really did happen. He wiggles out of Jungkook's embrace to hover over him, looking down at him with a dumb smile on his face as he brushes the hair off of his forehead.

"What?" Jungkook whispers into the darkness, looking at how beautiful Taehyung looked with his features illuminated in the dim moonlight flooding through the hotel room curtains.

"You're extraordinary, you know that?"

Jungkook cocks his head in confusion, "I am?"

"Hmm. Asami today was just proof of how extraordinary you really are. She showed more maturity than my mother has ever in her life, it's just a reflection of how great you've been able to raise her." Taehyung gushes, finding himself attaching his lips to Jungkook's own as if he's being drawn to him by a magnet.

"I think you're forgetting that you've helped raise her for the better part of two years."

"You don't give yourself enough credit. For five years you raised her by yourself, and you can say it's thanks to your parents but your mom has told me just how much you did purely independently. You're an angel, Jeon Jungkook. It's still a wonder to me how you're all mine."

Jungkook smiles, pulling Taehyung down again for another kiss. Deep and loving, nothing but raw and pure feelings running through it. "I'm so proud of you for today, the amount of strength you showed was just amazing."

"I'm just living up to my name. You have to be strong to be a Jeon, your dad told me it was our family motto." Taehyung giggles and Jungkook joins him.

They fall asleep happier than ever that night, sharing small giggles and kisses in the darkness of the room.
