Familiar Face

Weekly grocery shopping was always a pain for both Taehyung and Jungkook seen as they both hated it with a passion. The fact they had a five year old to keep tabs on as well only made the ordeal that bit more stressful, especially when said child wouldn't stop trying to convince them on agreeing to buy her countless amounts of candy. Today was no different, they were stood in the cereal aisle whilst Asami begged them to get the most sugary cereal she could possibly find.

"But it has a unicorn on the front of it!" The little girl whined.

"And it's incredibly bad for you, it'll rot your teeth. Do you want to look like one of the trolls from your fairytale books?" Jungkook asked. He knew he had won when he saw Asami's face instantly drop.

"Fine." Asami huffed.

Taehyung laughed at her, "How about you go and choose one of them princess magazines instead?"

Asami nodded happily before scurrying off to the magazine aisle. Jungkook angrily glared at Taehyung once she was out of sight, "Why did you tell her she could have a magazine? We both agreed to say no if she asked for one."

"We already denied her the cereal! Besides, it'll keep her busy for a least a little while once we're home, which means we can have some alone time." Taehyung wiggled his eyebrows suggestively.

"Okay fine, maybe allowing her to have one isn't such a bad idea."

"Well, I am the smart one in this relationship after all."

"As if. You asked me yesterday if Dracula was real because you thought you saw him outside the kitchen window." Jungkook rolled his eyes.

"I swear I did see him!"

"Yeah, of course you did, baby." Jungkook shoves him playfully.

Both of the men laugh as they wait for Asami to come back to them, they dare not move in the fear the little girl will think she's been abandoned. They were immersed in conversation when the heard a voice behind them, both of them turned towards the sound in confusion.

"Jungkook?"

It takes Jungkook a little while to recognise the face, but once he does he instantly scowls, it's definitely not a face he wanted to see again in this lifetime. "Jihyo."

"It is you! Long time, no see." Jihyo smiles, although it's clear it's completely fake.

"I was hoping I'd never see you again." Jungkook states bluntly, he had no time for pleasantries with this woman.

"Oh come on, don't be like that. Wheres your kid? Did you get tired of her and dump her on your parents? I wouldn't blame you if you did, I'm sure you gave parenthood a good shot."

Jungkook clenches his jaw, trying to bite down the urge to scream at Jihyo in the middle of the store. He opens his mouth to say something but is cut off by the sound of Taehyung speaking instead, "He's a great father actually, Asami is just picking out a magazine for herself."

"And who are you exactly?" Jihyo furrows her eyebrows at him.

"Kim Taehyung, Jungkook's boyfriend." Taehyung smiles as he extends his hand for a handshake, only to drop it when the woman just glares at him and makes no move to return the greeting.

Jihyo scoffs as her focus turns back to Jungkook, "Oh yeah, I forgot you turned gay after we dated."

"Well actually I just made peace with the fact I was gay after I dated you, but you can think like that if it helps you sleep at night." Jungkook shrugs.

"Tata, can you help me choose one? I want this one because Ariel is on the front and you know she's my favouritest princess, but this one comes with a necklace!" Asami says as she approaches the adults, holding up two magazine options.

Taehyung chuckles as he crouches down in front of the little girl, he takes the magazines into his own grasp as he inspects them both. "Ariel is in this one as well, so I'd say choose the one with the necklace."

"Okies!" Asami says as she places the magazine in the cart and then skips off to put the other one back.

"Wow, so you actually did keep her, I'm impressed." Jihyo patronises.

"That's all you can say after seeing your own daughter for the first time in almost six years?" Jungkook says in disbelief.

"What do you want me to say, Jungkook? That she seems nice? That I regret signing her over to you? I'm not a liar. I didn't care for the little brat back then and I don't care about her now. I haven't even thought about her since you took her, she was an inconvenience in my life and I still can't believe I went through all the pain of being pregnant and giving birth to her."

"How fucking dare you-"

"Kookie, don't." Taehyung tries to keep him calm by grabbing his hand and lightly squeezing.

Asami gasped as she came back, "Daddy said a bad word!"

Jungkook instantly softens as he sees his daughter, he leans down to pick her up as she still seemed in shock from hearing a swear word. "I'm sorry, pancake."

"Swears are bad." Asami reminds him to which he nods with a smile. The little girl then notices the woman standing in front of them as she shoots her a toothy grin, "Hello! I am Asami!"

"You look so much like your dad, how unfortunate," Jihyo says flatly.

"I think daddy is pretty!" Asami exclaims before resting her head in the crook of Jungkook's neck.

Jungkook smiles at the defensive comment from his daughter, "We really should be going, we have shopping to do. I'd say it was nice to see you again, but I'm not a liar either."

Taehyung tries to suppress his laugh but fails completely which earns him an angry glare from the woman. He waits until Jungkook is back over by their cart before leaning in and whispering to Jihyo, "That little girl happens to be the greatest child in the world, seems she took after Jungkook in both personality and looks. It's a good thing for her seen as you are just as ugly on the inside as you are on the outside."

"Tae?"

"Coming!" Taehyung smiles over his shoulder at this boyfriend. "Goodbye, Jihyo." He says with a glare before walking off.

"What did you say to her?" Jungkook questions.

"Nothing much." Taehyung smiles.

"Do you wanna sit in the cart, pancake?"

Asami shakes her head, "I wanna be carried."

Jungkook laughs, he knows his arms will be in complete pain once they're done with shopping but he doesn't mind, as long as his daughter was happy.

Both men sighed in relief once they were done with packing the shopping away in the kitchen. Asami was comfortably sitting in the living room as she flicks through her magazine which gives them both some peace and quiet, for the time being, it definitely was a good idea to buy her it.

"I knew Jihyo was gonna be a bitch, but she's much worse than I ever imagined." Taehyung laughs.

"I think she gets more evil as the year's pass. How dare she say something so vile about her own flesh and blood!" Jungkook scowls.

"She doesn't deserve Asami to even be related to her. Are you going to tell her who exactly she was?"

"I don't know, should I? I know one day she'll probably want to know about her mother but is now really a good time? Will she even understand?" Jungkook felt conflicted, of course, he didn't want to lie to his daughter but he can't tell if now is the best time to explain everything to her.

"She's a smart girl, she'll understand. Maybe it's best you tell her when the picture of Jihyo is still fresh in her mind, this way she won't grow up with so many questions." Taehyung smiles as he grabs a juice carton out of the fridge to bring to the little girl.

Jungkook hums in agreement, he knew Taehyung was right after all. "What if it upsets her? I hate when she's upset."

"You'll just have to take that risk." Taehyung smiles encouragingly before leaving the room, allowing Jungkook to follow him once he's ready to. He enters the living room to see Asami laying on her stomach on the carpet whilst engrossed in her magazine, "I brought you some juice, princess." He says as he places the carton in front of her.

"Thanks, Tata!"

"Anything interesting in your magazine?"

"It's hard to read all the words, but the pictures are great!" Asami says with a wide grin.

Jungkook enters the room not too long after, finally mentally prepared to have the important conversation. "Pancake, can I talk to you for a minute?" He says as he sits down next to Taehyung on the sofa.

Asami nods as she closes her magazine, she picks up her juice and makes her way over to her dad and climbs up onto his lap. She looks at him with curiosity in her eyes, "Am I in trouble?"

"Of course not. I just wanted to speak to you about the lady we saw at the grocery store."

"She was mean, she didn't even say hi to me." Asami pouts.

"That's because she's not a nice person. But, she is a part of you regardless." Jungkook sighs.

"What do you mean, daddy?"

"That lady was your mother," Jungkook explains.

Asami eyebrows furrow in confusion, "Why did she not want to talk to me? Shouldn't my mommy love me?"

"As I said before, she's not a nice person. That's why you've never met her before, she doesn't want to be a part of your life."

"But why? Does she hate me? Did I do something wrong?" Asami says sadly.

"Of course not, little squish. You are amazing! If anything, it's her that did something wrong." Jungkook comforts as he hugs the little girl close to him.

"She's a poo poo head. I don't need a mommy, I have daddy and Tata!" Asami giggles.

Jungkook is pleased with her sudden change in mood, he would've hated for Asami to carry on believing all of this was her fault. "And we'll always love you more than anything."

Taehyung smiles at the both of them hugging, he's glad to see that Asami was so understanding about the situation. Although, If he ever see's Jihyo again he is without a doubt smacking her straight in the mouth for being so rude about his family.
