Taehyung had been thinking of a lot of things over the past couple of months, all things to do with the future of his and Jungkook's relationship. The thoughts came into his mind on the night of Jungkook's birthday, they spent the night alone together and Taehyung just couldn't believe how much love he felt for the younger male. Ever since then he had been thinking of making a huge commitment and asking Jungkook to be his forever, of course he didn't know that Jungkook was thinking about the exact same thing.
It was a new school year and Taehyung was sad that he no longer had Asami in his class. The girl had been devastated when she found out she was moving up a year and getting a new teacher, Jungkook and Taehyung had a hard time convincing her that it was for the best and it meant she was able to achieve more things. But, at least Taehyung's best friend was still in the classroom next door to his, which meant he could spend lunch with him as always.
"So, I was thinking..." Taehyung voices out between bites of his lunch.
"That's dangerous." Jimin laughs.
"Shut up, this is serious."
"Okay, okay. I'm sorry, what have you been thinking about?" Jimin asks, genuinely interested in what was on the younger's mind.
"Well, mine and Kookie's one year anniversary is in a couple of months and I was thinking about maybe proposing to him on that day..."
Jimin chokes on his drink, he thinks his ears just betrayed him and heard something different to what he thought, but the look on Taehyung's face tells him otherwise. "I thought you always dreamt of someone proposing to you? What's changed?"
"I just have this urge to show Kookie how committed I am, I want to be there for him forever. I think it's similar to the moving in thing, it didn't happen until I asked and then I found out he'd been wanting to ask me for weeks! What if it's the same with the proposal? I don't want him feeling pressured about it, so I'll take the step and do it first." Taehyung smiles widely.
"Aren't you a little scared you're rushing things?"
"I mean, a little? But even if he tells me it's too soon at least he knows where my head is at, right?"
Jimin nods in agreement, he's still a little apprehensive but he knows its not his place to talk Taehyung out of doing what he think's is right. "Well, I'm happy you're with someone who you can see a solid future with, you completely deserve it."
"Will you help me pick out a ring? You know I'm useless at doing things like this myself." Taehyung laughs.
"Of course I will, you don't even need to ask." Jimin smiles brightly, turning his attention back to his lunch.
Taehyung does the same, feeling happier now he's voiced his feelings out loud to someone. Now the only thing left was to pick the perfect ring and to find out where and how he's going to ask Jungkook to marry him.
Taehyung planned to go ring shopping with Jimin at the weekend, which he felt guilty about seeing as the weekend is when they would usually have family time. "Kookie, I'm going shopping with Jimin today, he needs to get something last minute and he needs my help with it..."
"That's fine, I actually made plans to go out with Namjoon today anyway."
"And you didn't think to tell me about it?" Taehyung frowns.
"I'm telling you now, aren't I?" Jungkook jokes, although Taehyung doesn't find it funny at all and continues frowning. "Okay, I'm sorry. Namjoon needs to go to the jewellers in town to get something for Jin for their anniversary, and we planned to get the girls together today so they could have a sleepover. But, that does mean we'll have the place all to ourselves tonight..."
Taehyung lights up at that, it had been at least two weeks since they had been intimate with each other so the prospect of something happening that night was definitely exciting to both of the men. "I'll forgive you, but you better give me something good tonight."
"Oh, I'll give you something good for sure. You'll definitely be screaming, baby."
"What does that mean, daddy? Why do you want Tata to scream?" Asami wonders into the room only just catching the end of the conversation.
"Erm- we're going to watch a horror movie, pancake. He always screams when he watches them!" Jungkook nervously laughs.
Asami cocks her head to the side in confusion, "Why do you watch them then? You shouldn't make yourself scared, Tata."
"It's okay, princess. I love watching them, it's a good kind of scared."
"Is being scared ever good?"
"Sometimes." Jungkook quickly responds, keen to shut the conversation down as soon as possible. "Have you chosen the pyjamas you want to wear for your sleepover?"
Asami nods as she holds up the bag she was holding, the fact she managed to pack it by herself impressed both of the adults. Jungkook quickly checks it to make sure she had everything, pleasantly surprised when he couldn't find anything missing. "Okay, say goodbye to Tata because we're leaving in a minute."
"Bye, Tata. I'll miss you." Asami pouts sadly.
"Have fun, sweetie. Make sure you tell me all about it tomorrow." Taehyung smiles, hugging the little girl as tight as he could without completely crushing her. He gives her a few kisses on the cheeks before letting her go.
Asami runs to the front door to put on her shoes, Jungkook takes this as a perfect opportunity to give Taehyung a kiss of his own. He kisses him deeply before pulling away, smiling as they rest their foreheads against each other.
"When will you be home?" Taehyung whispers.
"Not too late, I'll be home in time for us to have dinner together."
Taehyung smiles, pleased that he'll be able to eat dinner with his boyfriend. "Should I bring food home for us?"
"That would be good, I won't feel like cooking once I'm home and there's no way I'm allowing you to cook, I prefer our kitchen to not be burnt down." Jungkook chuckles.
Taehyung pushes the younger away from him, insulted by the fact he thinks he's so bad at cooking that he would burn the kitchen down if he even attempted to prepare something (although the allegation is probably accurate). Jungkook simply laughs harder and pulls him back by his wrists, kissing him again quickly before figuring he should probably leave.
"Have fun with Jimin, I'll see you later," Jungkook says as he leaves the living room, leaving a very smiley Taehyung alone with his thoughts.
"Where are you driving to? The town is in the other direction." Jimin looks out the window, wondering if his best friend had completely forgotten the plan for the day.
"We can't go to the jewellers in town, Kookie's going there today. We have to drive to the next district."
Jimin frowns harshly, "But that takes twenty minutes longer! Why is Jungkook even going to the jewellers? Is he proposing too?"
"Stop whining, you told me Hobi is busy all day today so all you would be doing is sitting on your ass eating chips and watching crappy k-dramas, I'm saving you from yourself. And, no he's not proposing as well! Namjoon and Jin's anniversary is coming up and Namjoon needs help choosing a gift." Taehyung thinks about rolling his eyes but decides it's better he keeps his eyes fully on the road ahead, he's not looking to die today after all.
"K-dramas and chips is the key to a happy life." Jimin mumbles, a little annoyed that the other attacked his favourite pastime activity.
Taehyung laughs under his breath at the childish behaviour, deciding to cut the conversation there in the fear of Jimin being more irritable throughout the day. The car ride took less than twenty minutes which pleased them both. As soon as Taehyung stepped into the shop he was overwhelmed with how many different ring choices there were, he was naive to think making a decision was going to be somewhat simple.
"Can I help you, gentlemen?" A lady behind the glass counter said with a sickly sweet smile.
"Er- yeah... I'm looking for an engagement ring."
"Of course, sir. Do you have a preference as to what you're looking for? Sometimes it's easier to make a decision if you take into consideration your girlfriend's favourite styles, her favourite colours, some people even match the stone to the colour of their lover's eyes." The woman cocks her head as she waits for an answer.
"It's actually for my boyfriend... do you have any more masculine ones?" Taehyung hesitantly says. He's always afraid of being judged for his sexuality, always thinking it was something he would forever be looked down on for all because his parents made him think it was something to be ashamed of.
The woman however keeps her smile firmly on her face, not once even wavering by the admission. "That's not a problem, I'm sorry I assumed so quickly. I'm just so used to helping men pick out rings for their girlfriends, I'm actually excited for a change of pace!" She laughs lightly.
Taehyung feels lighter from her words, relieved that it wasn't an issue. He see's Jimin grinning beside him, clearly also happy for the lack of judgement brought upon him.
"Usually men like to go for a traditional band, similar to that of a wedding ring. But of course, you could still take a look at the typical engagement rings we have here. Personally, I do think the male ones are more appealing."
Taehyung nods in agreement, he had an idea in mind of what he thought Jungkook would like so he explained that to the woman behind the counter. He grows excited when he sees all the options he had to choose from, exactly like a kid in a candy store. He didn't know engagement ring shopping would be such a fun experience but he was ecstatic that it was.
Namjoon hums as he looks at all the watches and bracelets on display in front of him, trying hard to figure out what Jin would prefer to have. He turns to Jungkook to ask for his opinion only to find him no longer next to him, instead, he was gazing at the selection rings in the glass cabinet. "Thinking about finally buying a ring for Tae?" He asks once he appears next to the younger.
Jungkook startles slightly, finally coming back from his own little world that he seemed to have drifted off into. "I was going to choose one closer to our actual anniversary, but maybe now is a good time," he says thoughtfully.
"Well, I'll help you if you want to look at options, I did go through all this when I was planning my proposal to Jin after all." Namjoon laughs.
"Oh shit yeah, we're here for you, not me. Have you decided between a watch and a bracelet?"
Namjoon smiles, letting the younger know that he shouldn't worry about taking the focus off of the intended task. "We'll decide later, right now we'll talk about engagement rings."
"Are you sure?" Jungkook says, guilt evident in his voice.
"Of course. We'll still get Jin's present, we'll just take a small mental detour. You deserve to have all the attention on this, you've been waiting a long time to find someone to be serious about."
Jungkook groans loudly, "Don't remind me, the search was so long and painful, I didn't think it was ever going to come to an end."
"But it did, and you found Taehyung." Namjoon chuckles, nudging the younger playfully.
"I did. He's actually an angel, you know? I don't think he'll ever understand how much he's helped me."
"Well, now's your chance to show him by choosing the perfect ring."
"The perfect ring for the perfect man." Jungkook beams as he turns his attention back to the ring selection.
"Exactly."
Taehyung texted Jungkook as soon as he got home, happy to know he was ten minutes away from the house so he had time to hide the ring he had bought in a place where he knew the younger would never look. He placed the food on the table before running upstairs with Yeontan running up behind him, quickly trying to decide what the best room to hide something would be. He eventually decides on Asami's room, knowing she had a box at the top of her wardrobe filled with ribbons that she very rarely ever wore. He quickly hides the box in there, covering it over with a few of the ribbons before closing and placing it back on the top shelf of the wardrobe, he then hid the box behind some of her winter scarves so that it was definitely forgotten about.
As soon as he was done he heard the front door opening downstairs, Yeontan yapped cutely as he ran down to greet another person. "Tae?" Jungkook's voice called up the stairs to which Taehyung instantly came running down the stairs too. The elder ran straight into his arms, almost knocking him over from the force. "Wow, missed me that much?" Jungkook laughed into his hair.
Taehyung nodded before his eyes caught sight of the bag on the floor, he was confused as to why Jungkook would have bought anything from the jewellers. "What's in the bag?" He couldn't resist asking.
"Oh- erm- It's Jin's gift... Namjoon said he always goes snooping around the house when he knows an important event is coming up, he's like an impatient kid before Christmas." Jungkook was proud of his quick thinking because it definitely threw Taehyung off the scent.
"Oh, food!" Taehyung suddenly remembers, "It's probably getting cold, come on."
Taehyung drags the younger into the kitchen before urging him to sit down, he grabs the plates and cutlery before sitting down opposite him and helping him unpack the food. They sit and talk about their days, both leaving out the part about shopping for an engagement ring. They then both relaxed on the sofa, Taehyung cuddled up to Jungkook's side as Yeontan slept on his lap, they missed the presence of Asami but it was nice to once in a while get some time for just them.
The silence between them gave them both time to reflect on how real the situation was getting, their minds filled with ideas on how to go about proposing on their anniversary, obviously not knowing the other was having the exact same thoughts.
Two proposals on the exact same day? Hopefully, everything wouldn't end up being a disaster.
