Big Sister
Taehyung and Jungkook swear they could look at Minjun for hours, they haven't been able to take their eyes off of him since he was born. However, Jungkook knows at one point they have to, one of them needs to head home and get everything ready in order to bring him home after all. They had nothing prepared, Jennie going into labour suddenly whilst they are at their daughter's birthday party meant that they had nothing with them. No clothes for the baby, no carrier, no food, no diapers, absolutely nothing.
"I need to go get his things so we can bring him home, do you think you'll be okay alone for a bit?" Jungkook finally tears his eyes away from Minjun to ask.
"You're going to leave me alone with our child already? I'm not ready for that... what if something goes wrong? I need you to teach me things before you allow me to be alone with him." Taehyung panics.
"Baby, you're not alone. There are nurses that keep checking up on him. If you have any questions I'm sure they'll be more than happy to help you." Jungkook says with a smile, softly grabbing Taehyung's hand to calm him down. "You'll be fine, I'll be as quick as I can."
Taehyung chews nervously at his bottom lip, "can't I just head home to get everything? You'll be much better staying with the baby."
"Me and Jennie aren't close, it'll just be awkward between us if she wakes up. Just trust yourself, okay?"
"Fine. But if I end up doing something wrong I swear I'm going to file for a divorce." Taehyung huffs.
Jungkook laughs quietly before leaning into to kiss Taehyung, soft and sweet to show he has all the faith in the world in him. "Can you call my mom and tell her about Minjun? I don't want her to shout at me for waiting over an hour to call and I know she'd never yell at you."
"I thought you text her earlier?"
"No... I text Jin to ask how Asami was and then I forgot all about it." Jungkook sheepishly smiles as he stands, grabbing his jacket in order to make a quick escape.
"You forgot to text your own mother to tell her she has a new grandson? I swear if he wasn't asleep right now I would yell at you myself." Taehyung hisses.
"And that's my cue to leave. I'll be back soon, love you."
Jungkook is sure Taehyung rolls his eyes behind him as he scurries out of the door making him smile to himself as he does so. He takes a second to breathe once he gets to his car, sighing lightly as he thinks about how crazy the whole day had been. Everything happened so fast, he didn't even consider that he'd been ending the day as a dad of two but here he is, and he really couldn't be happier. With a permanent smile etched onto his face he quickly drives back home, luckily it didn't take him long seen as it was late and hardly any other cars are on the road.
Once he gets into the house he makes quick work of collecting everything they needed, heading straight into the nursery to choose a babygrow (picking out two options to give him more chances of actually choosing something Taehyung deems 'first ever outfit worthy'), quickly throwing some other (probably unneeded for just a trip back from the hospital) items into the bag before running back downstairs to find the baby carrier. Jungkook doesn't think he's ever run around the house so fast in his life, almost slipping on the last step and injuring himself as he does, Yeontan chasing him everywhere he went as if it was a game. But as he thinks about how much Taehyung was probably praying for him to walk back through the hospital doors he couldn't even take a second to care.
He drives quickly back to the hospital, considering jumping red lights to get there faster but ultimately deciding against it knowing he'd rather not die in a careless car accident. Taehyung greets him with a big smile as he comes back, something that makes his heart almost stop its frantic beating in his chest.
"A nurse came round with a bottle and let me feed him! I was so sure I was going to do it wrong but I managed to do it perfectly, she said I was a natural father!" Taehyung squeals happily, stopping himself abruptly when he notices he probably shouldn't be squealing in a ward filled with babies.
"That's amazing, Tae. But I didn't ever doubt that you would be a natural." Jungkook laughs before setting everything down, taking a second to actually catch his breath.
"What outfit did you bring him?" Taehyung says as he picks the bag back up and starts rummaging through it. "The one with the sun? I wanted him to wear that cute bunny one your mom bought," he pouts in disappointment.
"I brought that one as well, it's in there somewhere."
Taehyung makes a noise of happiness as he quickly rummages through the bag to find it, his whole face lighting up as he pulls it out. Jungkook fondly watches the scene, loving the pure happiness that was practically radiating off of his husband.
"Can you believe we have a baby? He's an actual baby, Kookie!"
"Well, I didn't think he was a puppy."
"Funny." Taehyung rolls his eyes, but can't help but go back to smiling a second later. "Can you dress him?"
"You should stop being so scared. You're a natural, remember?" Jungkook encourages him, but he can see that he won't get Taehyung to change his mind so he takes the babygrow from the elder's hands in preparation to dress their child.
"I have to ease myself into it. Don't tell me you weren't the same when Asami was born."
Jungkook hums in agreement, thinking back to his eighteen-year-old self he can remember being exactly like Taehyung is now. He knows it'll take a while for the elder to be comfortable and confident about doing things alone, and he's more than willing to hold his hand through it.
"Did you call my mom?"
"I did indeed. She's pissed at you for not calling her sooner but once I told her about everything she chilled out. She said her and your dad will ask for time off of work so they can come down for the weekend and see him, as you can imagine she's overly excited." Taehyung giggles.
"Another grandchild for her to love more than me." Jungkook sarcastically says as he carefully unwraps Minjun from his blanket burrito so he could dress him.
"Can you blame her? Both of our children are perfect."
"And you're saying I'm not?"
"You have your flaws." Taehyung lightly shoulders the younger with a smirk, showing that his words were purely playful.
"Wow, thanks, Tae. I love you too."
Taehyung laughs as he kisses Jungkook on the cheek, "you're perfect to me, you know that."
"That's all I need." Jungkook smiles brightly. "I'm going to ask the nurses if he's all good for us to take him home, do you want to wake Jennie to say goodbye?"
"It seems mean to wake her... but then again I don't want to just walk out when she's just pushed a baby out for us."
"It's up to you, baby," Jungkook shrugs as he wraps Minjun back up in his blanket, making sure he was warm enough for when he speaks to the nurse.
Taehyung thinks about it, considering the choices so hard he doesn't even see Jungkook leaving the room. He ultimately decides to wake Jennie, knowing he'd only feel guilty if he leaves without checking if she was okay and thanking her one last time. He approaches her bed, giving her a small shake before he can talk himself out of it, only feeling guilty when she groans and starts to wake up.
"Tae? What's up?" Jennie blinks her eyes open, the harsh, bright light in the room only making them burn.
"I'm sorry I woke you, it's just that we're leaving and I didn't want to go without saying goodbye and thanking you again for the amazing gift you've given us." Taehyung smiles brightly.
"You definitely sound like you're leaving me for good, you could've just texted me." Jennie laughs.
"Of course not! I actually spoke to Lisa earlier to tell her you were here so she could come to see you, we spoke about going for a double date sometime. I'm definitely not leaving you for good."
"Well, good." Jennie smiles as she turns over, wincing in pain when she does so. "Where's Jungkook?"
"He took Minjun to see if we can take him home, we don't want to leave until he's been fully checked over."
"Hmm. He's a sweet baby, I think he has Jungkook's eyes."
"That's what I said!" Taehyung rejoices, glad that he wasn't completely crazy with his impossible theory. "You feeling okay? You know, apart from hurting down there and being super tired..."
"To be honest with you, Tae, I just can't wait to get home and finally crack open the bottle wine that has been staring me in the face and taunting me for nine whole months now," Jennie answers truthfully making them both laugh loudly.
"You definitely deserve it."
"I do, don't I?" Jennie finishes laughing to yawn, still overly tired from the entire day. "I need to sleep, but text me tomorrow, yeah? Tell me how much Asami loves her new baby brother."
Taehyung nods with a smile, more than willing to allow Jennie to get her well-needed sleep. "Thank you, Jen," he whispers before gathering all of their stuff and leaving the room, making sure there's nothing to wake Jennie up again. He's relieved when he sees Jungkook standing at the reception desk signing papers, glad he doesn't need to run down all the halls in the ward in order to find him.
"We good to go?" Taehyung says, looking around for Minjun and frowning when he doesn't see him.
"They just took him to be weighed, don't worry." Jungkook looks up to say, a bright smile on his face.
"Oh thank God, I was scared they took him somewhere to scan him."
"Scan him? He isn't a robot." Jungkook teases, passing the paperwork back to the nurse once he was done.
"You know what I mean, like an X-ray or something." Taehyung crosses his arms, not too thrilled about being mocked.
"I was joking, baby. But he's fine, he's all good to go once they've weighed him."
Taehyung nods, still sulking a little up until he sees the nurse carrying Minjun back out to them, he can't help but smile when he sees him again. They're happy to know their baby was a healthy weight, the relief washing over them knowing that he was perfectly fine. They couldn't be more excited to be able to take him home, both of them desperately needing sleep after the long day they've had.
Carrying Minjun into the house was another shred of happiness for them, finally having him where he belongs made them feel as if their family was complete. Although the moment quickly ended when they had to shush Yeontan, the excited little dog barking loudly at their arrival back home and threatening to make the baby cry, something they really didn't need when they wanted to get him off to sleep so they could also sleep. Thankfully he went quiet when Taehyung ran to the kitchen to get him a treat, the promise of food enough to make anyone instantly silent.
It was surprisingly easy to put Minjun to bed, the baby falling asleep before he was even laid in the crib. The couple could only hope they would get a good night sleep, but from Jungkook's past experience with Asami, he knows that with a newborn baby that was unheard of. Still, with hope living comfortably in their hearts, Jungkook and Taehyung got into their own bed and instantly fell asleep also.
The night was hectic, to say the least. Taehyung didn't know a baby could cry so much, how one tiny human had so much energy to scream for an hour straight will forever bewilder him. The couple were taking a well-needed nap on the sofa after finally getting Minjun back to sleep when they were awoken by the doorbell, both of them groaning loudly as they forced their eyes back open to see who was there.
"Daddies!" Asami squeals as the door opens, throwing herself forward to hug their legs.
"Hey pancake, did you have fun at Jinie and Joonie's?" Jungkook asks, trying his best to not sound as tired as he felt.
"Uh huh! We made a funfetti cake and me and Hana watch Moana before bed!"
"That sounds great, princess." Taehyung smiles as wide as possible.
Asami nods enthusiastically before running off to find Yeontan, wanting to give her little dog a hug.
"You two look like death," Jin laughs.
"We haven't slept much, we were just taking a nap when you knocked. I completely forgot you were bringing her back, I'm so tired I forgot we even had another child." Jungkook yawns, hissing loudly when Taehyung elbows him.
"You forgot about Asami?" Taehyung glares.
"I want to say no, but I kinda did."
"Wow, dad of the year award is well and truly yours, Kook." Jin rolls his eyes. "Well, I'm heading back to my own child so you two have fun here. Oh, and congrats on little Minjun!"
"Thanks, Jin, I owe you one," Jungkook says, appreciative that he has such good best friends that he could always rely on.
"You owe me more than one, I just keep on saving your ass."
Jungkook rolls his eyes even though he knows Jin is more than right, he gives him one final wave before closing the door and heading back to the living room with Taehyung following him like a lost puppy, clearly too tired to do anything else.
"Can I meet Minjun now? I coloured in a picture of spider-man for him!" Asami says, her eyes shining with hope.
"Sure pancake, he's upstairs." Jungkook smiles, happy that Asami was excited to meet her brother.
They all head upstairs to the nursery, both of the men happy to see Minjun was already awake so they wouldn't have to endure the crying if they accidentally woke him. Asami runs over to the crib in interest, looking down at the baby with a strange look on her face.
"He looks old... why is he so wrinkly?"
Jungkook and Taehyung can't help but laugh at the question, of all the things they thought their daughter would say they never thought of that.
"He's only a day old, princess, all babies are a little wrinkly at first." Taehyung attempts to explain, smiling fondly as he watches Asami stare at Minjun.
"Do you think he likes me?" She asks quietly, looking up at Jungkook in wait of an answer.
"You're his big sister, he loves you," Jungkook answers, smiling sweetly as he picks Asami up for her to get a better look at the baby.
"I love him too!"
It's moments like these where both Taehyung and Jungkook don't know what they did to be able to get so lucky in life. The moment so pure and filled with love it truly felt as if they were living a dream, and as they listen to Asami list all the things she was going to teach Minjun when he grew up they knew that life couldn't get any better than this.
